Reviews of The Japanese Association, Singapore
We walked in to the JAS to purchase advance Natsu Matsuri tickets and try our luck with their restaurant Donguri. However, non-members are not very welcome here.
As a non-member, the security guard outside the building will get you to record down your particulars and ask that you only stay for 5~10 minutes to do what you need and then leave the premises right after. Non-members can’t use any of the facilities such as the library, and cannot dine in at both restaurants inside the building unless accompanied by a member. Hope that you don’t make an empty trip on an empty stomach like we did.
Still, the kind receptionist lady who helped us with the ticket purchase said that we are welcome to visit their mini mart/convenience store to buy any food or drinks to consume at the open seating area nearby.
If you are walking to the JAS from Botanic Gardens MRT Station, go to Exit A, cross the overhead bridge to Dunearn Road, travel west and turn northwards along Adam Road. The pedestrian walkway was sheltered for half the journey (until somewhere at the bus stop after Chee Hoon Avenue).
You need to be a member but there are nice amenities, library is cozy and there is a separate one for kids. Food is comfortable but not that great on the first floor, but there is a more polished, albeit expensive one on the fourth floor. The convenient store can get u a bunch of cool snacks only really available in Japan
Quiet little hideaway Japanese restaurant on the grounds of the Japanese association. Food was good sized serving portions, and good, attentive customer service, but there's nothing really very much around the restaurant especially if you go for dinner
Food (Especially the Sasimi and the Sandwiches) are fantastic. Also cheap compared to other restaurants (But you needa be a member first which costs roughly $200 per month...).They also have good taste in books and the staff's are nice (FYI: they speak both Japanese and English ) So if I conclude, I really like this place!
This is the place to go to if you want to learn Japanese Language, or to get to know about upcoming Japanese events.
If you are a Japanese, this is a good place to join, as you will be able to meet a lot of currently stay in Singapore Japanese, who will be able to assist you in anything Singapore related.
Nice grill beef tongue !
Abit noisy though…
So enjoyed their meal though I forgot the names. The environment was so friendly.. looking forward to do a repeat visit. Thank you Richard for the opportunity.
A place where can learn and experience various japanese culture. They provide japanese calligraphy lesson and japanese language lesson as well, at a very reasonable rate.
It's a nice community here for Japanese people. There are many services and activities available for the members, including a clinic.
A quiet haven in our hectic city. Food is gd
Opened to the members. Library there, its convenient & you can find many magazines & comics.
Very good japanese food at affordable prices. I was a guest sadly only for members only
Nice place to experience some Japanese culture or food. The staff is very nice and helpful.
My kids like to borrow Japanese kids books here. Note for members only.
I soley go to The Japanese Association to visit the Japanese Association Clinic.
A fantastic clinic.
Fantastic Japanese food there at a reasonable price.
My wife is always into Japan. So here I am with her.
Sadly the restaurants there only admit members.
Front counter ladys is not friendy...i very surprise..
Good ambience but very inaccessible.

Nice place
Nice
I ate sushi and mille crepe for dessert in the lounge.
The crepe was dry and disappointing.
The texture of the sushi was similar to what you would get at a supermarket, but it wasn't bad.
You can't use it unless you are a member, so I asked a Chinese friend who is a member to take me there.
Karaoke room 🎤 Reopening ❗️
It's really fun♪
You can also purchase daily necessities, rice, and ingredients. The food is also delicious.
The kids corner has also reopened and reading aloud has begun.
It is vacant.
