Reviews of 174BINGO
100/10 for the atmosphere. Great space for a short sit down and relax although it’s a takeaway spot. The cherry pie tasted very homely and it’s giving America cottage vibes, sweet but mostly tart and buttery crunch from the crust & crumble. Cardamom bun was good too, not too strong but just nice.
Coffee was great too, not too strong which is usually how I like my latte. Came slightly after noon so there was lesser option but will be back again to try more!!
As a lover of artisan bread, it excites me to see a new bakery. The first time I chanced upon this new gem was in May during their opening. Nothing beats the heady aroma and sheer delight of savoring a hearty sandwich, paired with a robust and fruity long black to kickstart the morning.
Joined a walking tour in Joo Chiat and was introduced to a slow-living cafe concept here.
Low (like very low) stools, compact spaces, dim lighting and atmospheric music and conversation combined to slow down your heart rate as whiff of freshly baked pastry draws your soul to a standstill.
Sight of people reading, couples starring into each other’s eyes and doggies at their best behaviours are a testament to what Bingo can do with its well appointed design.
We ordered the pistachio tart - probably the most expensive tart I’ve had in the world.
It was nutty, creamy and a tad hard to cut through with the plastic fork. The thick packaging gave it more reason for the price.
We wished we stayed here in this region so that we can pop in and soak in the energy once in a while.
We hope at some point the single use item will be replaced. Cups, fork, take away boxes filled the cafe. Yes even though they are recyclables, it’s still contributing to waste. Maybe start rewarding regulars to BYO utensils.
Been here 3 times now. First time with a friend post lunch and we shared the pistachio tart which was heavenly and hot whites too. Not milky you can still taste the coffee (roasted by maxi). Second time I went after a morning a run, had the pain suisse and a coffee. Still delicious. Recently I had the pleasure of trying their elusive cherry tart after my morning ride. Definitely a winner in my books. Paired well with coffee. But shame they can’t do dine in anymore due to someone complaining to the authorities. This is why we can’t have nice things. I just sat outside and ate it. Will support them as they do great bakes and nice coffee.
Managed to snag their much hyped Iranian pistachio tart and was feeling greedy so I also went with their garlic and herb knot. Both were very good, not in any other way that I could describe because it just felt like I was paying for really well made pastry with good quality ingredients. Both added up to $20 with gst so $21.80. Place was packed at Sunday around 2pm so I had to wait awhile for seats. I ended up squeezing into a cosy corner beside the speakers and shared the intimate corner with 2 other couples who were equally squeezed. The guys had to sit on this really small stools which was pretty hilarious but kudos to them for not complaining. Shows how chill the vibes are, everyone just there to chill out, have good pastry and then carry on with their day.
Most probably the best baked goods you can get on the island. Their walnut baguette is GLORIOUS. Ripped into one right from the bag and it just tastes SO GOOD. The pistachio tart is beautiful. No idea how they did that but it just tastes SO GOOD. Another favourite is Memory. Cinnamon sugar crusted, tart jam on the inside and this glorious vanillary cream on top… have been there many times since they opened and the homely baked goods keep me going back for more. Coffee is strong and wakes me right up, their house made shrub sodas are always so fresh and tasty too. TRY EVERYTHING!!! Don’t forget the sourdough. Have those sliced and frozen in my freezer for daaaayyyys. Parmesan garlic knots and cardamom buns must be consumed in multiples :)
Bingo is fine if you live in the vicinity and aren’t very price-sensitive. To me, the quality is alright and varies across their bakes, but value just isn’t there. For example: the pie has a nice savoury filling, but it’s the size of my palm and costs $10.50. A slice of tart, while generous, costs $11-14 and was a bit soggy at the base. And the 4-cheese bread — the first thing that came to mind was a more expensive, slightly zhnged version of the Johan melty cheese bread. In my books, it doesn’t beat Micro Bakery’s 4-cheese ciabatta, which has a stronger perfume of honey, creamy ricotta and a good funky blue cheese.
The iced black was fine — when I was there the beans were from Maxi. I actually like the communal table because finally! a bakery / cafe that doesn’t offer me a table the size of an A4 paper to balance my plate and cup like a circus artist. But I can see that if it was crowded, it might not be very space-efficient nor pleasant to sit.
It wasn’t too hard to get a seat at 10.30am on a rainy Saturday morning. Even so, I don’t think I would return. There is, unfortunately, a lot of competition in Joo Chiat / Katong!
I wish I could gatekeep this one.. it’s a legit hidden gem! Incredible pastries but my fav was the maple syrup grilled cheese toastie! Wow! the rustic interiors give that “effortlessly cool” vibe to it!
The apple pie texture is different from what I usally had. I like that the dough is not too heavy and the sweetness is balanced. Will go back for it again.
Tiramisu tart is equally good.
Visited this cafe and was absolutely charmed by its beautiful and cozy space. Though there aren't many seats available, the big sharing tables create a welcoming and communal atmosphere. The staff are incredibly nice and friendly, adding to the overall pleasant experience.
The pastries are priced fairly, especially considering the high quality and premium ingredients used. You can truly taste the difference! I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. This place is a gem! 💚
What a treat to have this bakery in SG! Sampled the 👏 Memory of Osterbrograde 👏 which is a 5/5! The crust is light, crunchy with the raspberry oozing out with every bite. The vanilla cream on top is a perfect sweetness added to it. The Garlic & Herbs was really good too!
The space is cosy, beautiful and well thought out. Can’t wait to be back to sample their other baked goods!
Nice and cosy interior, I love the vibes. Service was good and staffs were cool, definitely a cafe which I would recommend!
Their pastries are amazing especially “Memory of Osterbrogade” - raspberry jam wrapped in a fluffy layered shell with a nice touch of cinnamon, topped with vanilla cream.
Do note that their pastries and bakes may run low by 3pm, do drop by earlier! I’ll travel just to try the rest of their bakes and sourdough (:
Came on a weekday at about 1pm and the place was packed, there were no seats available.
I wanted to try the pie so badly but it was sold out.
I ordered the Iranian Pistachio Tart and the Baguette.
Staff at the register was friendly and helpful.
I did not enjoy the cream on top of the tart, it was too salty and slightly sour. The base of the tart though was delicious! It was dense and full of pistachios.
The baguette was amazing! There’s this lovely aroma when you tear a piece off and it reveals a soft fluffy centre and a just nice crispy outer layer. It’s so so so so good!!!
I’m looking forward to trying the pie on my next visit!
I discovered this place a few weeks ago but only had the chance to visit today. I’m so glad I did! The concept here is unique, hard to put into words, but it’s something special that I instantly loved. The bakes and coffee were top-notch, making the whole experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Cardamom bun, 4 cheese, olive tart and chicken pie are all excellent!
You remind me of my favourite bakery in London - Fortitude where everyone gets takeaways but hangs around to chomp down the yummy bakes!
Good job, guys!
Coffee is great however after pairing it with the soft and fragrant cardamom bun it loses its scent. So be careful how you pair it. And maybe drink the coffee first. One of the best croissant I have though. The right amount of flakiness and a good amount of buttery taste.
It was really crowded that day, heng there was some outdoor seats available but even that was filled up really soon and a crowd started to wait outside.
Great to see bingo the dog in the cafe however as some of the benches for the food were pretty low it may be unsanitary as bingo was walking around sniffing the food and some customer had to guard their food for that reason.
Pistachio tart was 100% worth the hype!! The rest of the bakes were good although the raspberry jam from Memory of Osterbrograde was too tangy for my liking.
TLDR/Protip: be prepared to take away. Nice space when it isnt overcrowded.
Good: 1. Cosy space, mix of industrial and wood for warm vibes. 2. Decent mix of sweet and savory bakes. 3. Coffee was good 👍 4. Plenty of parking. 5. I think there was a washroom? 6. Drink prices are reasonable. Overheard soda was good but didn't try.
Bad: 1. small space, limited seats. 2. Bakes were average tbh, maybe cos soft opening. 3. Drinks were served in a really odd way, barista decides to make all the same drink orders "in bulk", resulting in customers having to wait quite long for their drinks at busy periods regardless of when they had ordered. 4. Could use a trash bin for takeaway box disposal, tentatively have to pass to staff to discard. 5. Tarts were really expensive at $14.
Parma ham Burrata was delicious. Overall a nice place to grab coffee and bakes.
Surprisingly delightful coffee. Lovely atmosphere. Really easy to pass by the cafe though, and I've walked past it multiple times while wondering what's inside. Smells of freshly baked bread, and I will be back to try some pastries.
Nice tiny atmosphere to dine in.
Had the burrata Parma 8/10
Coffee tasted good 7/10
However , didn’t like the concept of disposable paper plates & cutleries. After eating , we had to throw it outside ourselves.
Been here twice the last four days despite the 20mins-commute from my home. They nailed the cozy ambiance, love how dogs friendly they are. And all the bakes are tasty. Everything is done with hearts. Love it! A rare gem in this city.
The pastries were unreal!!!! We tried the four cheese with honey, sourdough bacon with cheese(i dont know the name), sourdough pie and the GOAT, pistachio cake. Quality is premium!! Will definitely comeback.
Great bakes. Textures and flavours were great and well balanced albeit a little pricey. Was really crowded on a Sunday with limited seating.
Our absolute favourite spot- baked goods are top tier (I think about the cardamon bun a lot), coffee is solid, and seasonal shrub sodas are just delightful.
The space is so thoughtfully designed and we feel so at ease here. Our pup has favoured the porch bench and has the best time people watching outside ❤️
Amazing atmosphere, great coffee and bakes. Every staff was really friendly.
Read the reviews about it being a pet friendly cafe and brought our cat along for the amazing experience (she made friends with bread and two cute rabbits).
Not sure why there are complaints by confused customers about pets roaming around in a pet friendly cafe. Guess everyone is just overly entitled nowadays 😒
We happened to be around the area and had some time to spare. Was so overwhelmed (in a good way) by the selection we couldn’t decide what to get. We ate the four cheese and chocolate pastry I can’t remember the name of in no time. Glad we still have the sourdough loaf for tomorrow. Should have gotten the cherry tart too… next time…
Love the ambience! Dropped by on a weekday morning and had their chicken pie and tart! Really love the pie a lot! (Luckily there wasn’t a crowd)
Wanted to gatekeep this place but sharing is caring! (Just make sure I m able to get my hands on their chicken pie on my next visit).
Incredible decor and interior design, low warm lighting and vibey music can really soothe your soul after a short sit down. iced black was smooth
dustbin is placed in clear sight. anyone not able to discard their cups would not be able to pour water out of a boot if the instructions were on the heel.
1. Seems like they don’t read the reviews here because someone commented that there’s no place to throw trash 3 weeks ago and there still isn’t.
2. As mentioned by everyone else here, not enough space to sit.
3. Fantastic decor though.
4. The cashier had a rather robotic unfriendly tone. Not complaining; just giving feedback so she’s aware and can improve.
5. I don’t see how a cafe like this will survive to be honest. It’s no different from the many similar ones that have closed down in Joo Chiat. Have the owners tried to learn from the mistakes of others? I do want to see more of them sustain in this neighbourhood so I wish them all the best.
UPDATE: I guess I misheard that the water was 4$. My apologies!
......--
A small space, limited seats. The food is good but no tea selection (!) and this water is 4$ (!!!) 😅😅😅
Was there on a Saturday. Short Queue and was told that this is only a takeout place when I said I'll have some bread there and some for takeaway. Cashier was friendly. While having a crossiant there and it was cold so asked for them to toast/ heat up but was told that they don't do heat ups. Coffee was OK, bread was also OK, nothing that stood out for us to return again though
Probably one of my favourite cafes in Singapore. Cosy and warm. Their pastries are really good!
The decor is lovely, the bakes are soooooo goooooood, the vibes are immaculate, and the service is so so sweet and friendly! Such a refreshing change of pace from the soulless over-designed cafes that have plagued Joo Chiat for too long. Coming back again and again!
Pastries from upwards of $6.5 ,
Can’t match well with other similarly priced bakeries in the area (Plain Vanilla, Micro red house eg.,)
Interior decor is really nice
Pets can sit outdoors in front of the store (:
Update: had their cherry tart and memory of ostobrogade - totally worth the price, a must try
Popped in on a weekday late morning and surprised to find all tables taken. Wanted to try out their baguette but for some strange reason it wasn’t available that day. Settled for their 4 cheese and honey for take away. It was delicious and not something I find in the neighbourhood, and that does say something given that it’s Joo Chiat which is chock full of bakeries and cafes. However their croissant still needs to catch up to what Petit Pain offers up the road.
Deducted 1 star because their payment terminal was offline.
Will be back another day to try their baguette and update my review here. It’s promising and seems to want to give Petit Pain a run for its money but it’s till early days since 174 just opened so there are possibly improvements to be made. I’ll reserve judgement for now.
Love the vibes and ambiance Bingo brings. Their garlic herb knot is my absolute favourite, I’d have it everyday if I could. Keep it up! :-)
Such a lovely space. Sour cherry pie was amazing 🥹, as was the pistachio tart and the croissant pastry.
Best bakes in Singapore, excellent coffee with an amazing space! Love the seamless and fuss free experience. Olive tart to die for!
not bad a bit crowded in sunday afternoon
Food is phenomenal, atmosphere is cosy and company is amazing! What else can you ask for?
Disclaimer: Rated for coffee only
If you need ordinary coffee, this could be your spot.
Loved their bakes especially the pistachio tart. Crowded so be prepared to queue cos they usually sell out by early afternoon.
Lovely cozy cafe and food is tasty!
Pastries were good! A little expensive though.
Friendly staff, pastries and bread were very good
Love the space, bakes & people :)
Beautiful place with beautiful pastries
cardamom bun is amazeballs
