Reviews of Jin Yu Man Tang Dessert
Came here a couple of times, always for the ginger milk dessert which is their signature and sometimes for other stuff as well. The ginger milk is especially good for rainy and cold weather.
There’s a small toilet in the shop. There are two levels in the shop and turnaround is usually pretty fast, even after dinner time so you could get a slot quite quickly.
Stumbled upon this Chinese dessert shop as we were looking for something to satisfy our late evening sweet cravings.
I had the taro sago coupled with taro balls. Can't complain much, it was really tasty, taro bits a bit on the harder side and would have been nice if it was more chilled.
Will be back for sure as they have a wide variety of dessert options on their menu. The outlet is very spacious and neat!🍨✨
Overall, I had a pleasant dining experience at the restaurant. The double layered milk pudding with red bean was a delightful treat. The combination of flavors and textures worked well together, and it was a nice balance of sweetness. Similarly, the mango sago with ice cream was a refreshing and enjoyable dessert. The mango flavor was prominent, and the addition of sago and ice cream added a nice contrast in terms of texture and temperature.
One aspect that stood out to me was the spaciousness of the restaurant. There was ample room to sit and eat comfortably without feeling cramped. Additionally, the clean table and floors added to the overall pleasant ambiance of the place.
Overall, I would recommend this restaurant for those looking for a sweet treat in a clean and comfortable setting. Just keep in mind the limited menu options when planning your visit.
visited this dessert shop on a weekday afternoon, quite quiet but there’s still people coming in. Tried the signature ginger milk pudding & the peach gum with milk and white fungus. Staff would pour the milk into a bowl infront of you and you will need to wait 5 minutes before you can eat it. My mom loves it and say she will return for more :)
Place nearby I12 katong mall. A lot of dessert to choose. I think special of fry 牛奶😍 try new menu of thai milk tea with 芋圆.. hmm the mix quite ‘special’.
Traditional Chinese desserts place in Katong. We stumbled over this place while looking for desserts after dinner in the area. Instead of opting for the usual ice-creams/cakes/tarts, we decided to go hear since they looked delicious and healthy at the same time.
We ordered the following :
1) Double Layered milk with mango - Thick milk (almost like a pudding) with bits of mango. Really liked the consistency and the taste.
2) Ginger Milk pudding with lotus seeds and red bean - So they pour milk on a layer of liquid ginger. Wait for this to set for a about 3 minutes before you can add the rest of the ingredients and eat. This is perfect for a sore or funny throat.
3) Mango Pomelo Sago - Another dessert that I really liked. This is a blend of mango puree and milk served with mango bits and pomelo.
This dessert shop has many variety of desserts to select from. Honestly, I was overwhelmed by the choices and finally settled for the red bean paste with black sesame balls! Being a rainy and cool day, the dessert was served piping hot and it probably calmed my nerves. Soup was perfect not watery at all and sweetness was just nice. i love the black sesame balls, a small bite and it will just ooze out the awesome goodness of the sesame. Wished that i had ordered extra balls... The ingredients are good and prices are very reasonable.
Interior is nicely done up and the aircon was blasting really hard. Will be good on a hot day to cool you off.
Came here for dessert after our dinner at 5 star chicken rice opposite the road about 6 mins walk past i12 katong mall.
Not bad, not so crowded on weekdays evening. Quality also not bad worth coming here for desserts and short chills.
If crowded, please by considerate don't hog table for too long lol
Wasn't too impressed by neither of my mango puree thing nor double steamed milk.
Rice dumpling balls were a mushy mess, soaking in a water bath for way too long. Steamed milk had over curdled and wasn't as fragrant as would have liked. Probably hadn't ordered the shop's specialty.
Dessert was nice. Black sesame paste was think and flavorful. Chee Cheong Fun was good too. Except too little sauce and a tad too much oil. Service was quite fast. However, parking was an issue. Need to park elsewhere and walk to the shop.
Deep Fried Milk and Chee Cheong Fun quite nice and satisfied ; Hong Kong Style Ice Kacang and Ginger Milk Pudding above average although not impressive.
Total price $20++ after inclusive of GST and Service Charge, worth to give a try for the first time, not really will pay a visit again in the near future
Is my 1st time trying all of this yumz. They are very nice, not too sweet and just nice. I love it.
Very good traditional Chinese style dessert, with a wide range of milk based selection. The highlight is the ginger milk pudding which is poured on order, and then sits for 4 minutes as it curdles. Potential to be a great dessert place if they tweak and refine the desserts.
Didn't know this place existed in Katong. Tucked aways in a small alley opposite Holiday inn express, this small dessert place does serve quite a variety of hot and cold desserts. The shop is a bit tiny but they have a lofted area for additional seating. Everything is served to your table and freshly made. Can give it a try if you're within the area.
Classic HK dessert shop sells so many hot or cold sweet dessert.
Mango Sago Riceball: 4/5
Mango cut with mini pearl, mango popping bobba, riceball with mango sauce. Sweet and refreshing.
Outdoor seating available. Indoor seating was too cold.
Prices were affordable at around $4-7 per bowl. Overall was very refreshing. Personally found the white snow fungus dessert to have too much ginger in it inhibiting all the other flavour notes.
Yummy and cheap. Seldom c SHUANG pi nai in Singapore. Ordered 7 items for $35 including gst n Svc charge. The sour chicken feet and special source chicken feet so so tho.
Popular Chinese dessert shop along East Coast Road. Seems to be able to draw the crowds with its large variety of hot and cold desserts. Tried the Cheng Tng and White Fungus Soup. Both nice and not too sweet.
Quiet on a Sunday evening after dinner timeslot. Very taiwanese kinda interior, very homey. Very polite and friendly service crew! We had the Black Sesame Paste which was above average, I would have preferred it to be slightly thicker and more sesame taste. Mango sago pomelo & mochi was good, abit more sour than sweet. Mochi balls were fantastic. Not much other dessert paste available apart from sesame. Will only revisit if there are other expanded dessert options here.
Chrysanthemum milk pudding is awesome. Mango sago pomelo slightly above average. Will try their rice balls next time. Nice ambience, managed to get a table on the higher floor :) self service to order downstairs but the friendly staff will serve the food to you!
A rare Chinese dessert shop in Katong area. The desserts are not too sweet. I tried:
1. Black sticky rice with coconut cream and mango
2. Taro ball with grass jelly and mango
3. Deep fried milk (I like this)
Hong Kong Cafe style desserts and savouries offerings. Particularly enjoyed the desserts very much. The dining space is bright with lots of natural light which was pretty awesome. The Yang Zhi Gan Lu (Pomelo Mango desserts) was really tasty. Like it very much. There are other signature dishes as well. And this seemed like a popular spot for diners. Conveniently located opposite Hotel Indigo Katong and Holiday Inn Express, it would be a nice option for consideration when doing staycation at either of these properties!
Came in couple of times and I must say the dessert don’t disappoint you. Love the variety and taste of dessert remain the same on each visit. The only thing I hope is they have better choice of other food like porridge or soup noodle for a light lunch.
Dessert is nice! Creative variety and cosy corner at the upper level.
Got bitten by Mossie inside the restaurant maybe the management can do something about it. Do not park outside the shop as someone got fine!
Post-dinner dessert on a Sat night... The shop was packed, but the queue was moving. A shop unit of this size in HK would have packed in 50% more seating. The double-boiled milk curd was good, but the red bean chin-chow was meh...
Small little hidden jem at a side of a very quiet mall.
Food are great and quite reasonably priced. Menu items are mostly are dessert items HK style.
The most recommended dessert is Ginger Pudding which is great.
I highly recommend the Curry fish ball Lao Mian if you want more than sweet stuff to fill your stomach.
Shunde Milk pudding is nice. Not the real stuff as in Shunde where they use real buffalo milk. But this is nice enough. The ginger milk is ok and interesting. Nothing to shout about especially with the price and size.
Nice dessert, reasonable price, has variety, comfortable environment. Good crowd. This one will survive East Coast competition.
A smallish place with seating on 2 levels. Queue up for order and dessert will be delivered. Not too long a wait. Desserts are like most Tong Sui places.
Very good place for Chinese desserts. Have both hot and cold options. Free roadside parking after 7pm. Very convenient and food is good.
The desserts are excellent, though a little pricey. It would help if their AC worked better. Felt a bit stuffy indoors.
Great experience at JYMT! 🤩
Their desserts variety is wonderful, definitely has one for every taste bud!
Clean and efficient service. But the desserts were not as good as other tradition Chinese dessert place. I wouldn't mind going back but I wouldn't queue or travel for that. Especially the mochi balls felt soggy and old.
Such smooth melt-in-your mouth ginger milk curd! Bringing back fond memories from Hong Kong. 🤤
The fried milk sticks were equally yummy! Buttery and crispy 😋
Delicious traditional desserts at a reasonable price. The chrysanthemum double layered milk pudding is not too sweet and the chrysanthemum petals add flavours to the pudding. The pudding just melts in the mouth. Seatings is spacious. This quaint cafe is found in the middle of Katong. Service was good and fast.
I came here twice before writing my review. I ordered 1 bowl of sesame paste , 1 bowl of red bean paste with mixed rice balls and 1 plate of Chee Cheong Fun. The sesame paste has a roasted taste in it, the red bean paste is smooth with some soft beans in it and both are not too sweet - good . The mixed rice balls came with three sesame balls, they should be more attentive on this. The Chee Cheong Fun is a must to order as the mix sauce with the fragrant sesame oil , really made the hot rice rolls tasty. The only thing they can improved is the rice rolls, it should be more springy and soft. The price on their menu is not the net price, need to add in service plus GST charges.
The desserts are good. Just the right level of sweetness. The ingredients are fresh.
Very nice and clean enviroment! 1 of the best dessert and not too overly sweet! Will frequent there in future for my dessert craving! 👍
Great service and wide range of items to choose from. Their desserts are just the amount of sweet. The place is very echo-y though.
My favourite dessert place in the East. Spacious restaurant with really nice dessert. Have yet to try the side dishes but highly recommend. Only con is that prices have gone up :(
Mango sago was pretty good. Nice place for dessert.
Nice cozy place to chill with your loved one and enjoy a bowl of delicious dessert 豆花。
It's really smoothing and comfort to the throat and the topping blend it really well with the 豆花!
Great friendly services by staffs! Highly recommend!
Milk pudding has so much flavour and not too sweet. I love the bursting pearls in Mango mini rice ball dessert. A little pricey but worth trying!
A good spot to get some true to taste Chinese desserts and The Flow's a quiet spot which is rare in the middle of Joo Chiat.
Expensive but superb quality dessert. Occasional treats :-)
Came back for the hot desserts :-))))
Well served, tasty desserts!
Really good and satisfying your sweet craving :)
Went to eat mango sago and the fried milk snack. Really good!
Visited the place on a weekday evening but it was crowded. The seating arrangement at level 2 was closed and if you could not get a seat you can only takeaway or wait. Lucky we didn’t wait long and got indoor seat within 10 mins.
Nice place to eat dessert at Katong area. So far the taste of the dessert is acceptable but not outstanding.
Staff seem quite hostile, but the desserts are reasonably tasty.
Always go to the chi atown outlet but the food here is oso up to standard!!!!
Foods is nice, Not so sweet , cozy place to chitchat. Will visit again.
Finally a traditional Chinese dessert place in the East that's still open after dinner hours.
There is no queue system, people who are here for the very first time will be lost what to do. Some just rushed in to snatch a table, or crowd around you to wait for you to finish like a hawker Center. Dessert is just ok, just that in Singapore it’s rare.
SUPER GOOD and creative dessert they have there! Will come back again! Friendly staff :)
Dessert was quite ok and service was fast.
Note of caution - park along the road at your own risk. Checks are frequent and summons results in $70 fines for offenders.
Cosy cafe with nice desserts! Try the chee chong fun too! 👍🏻
The ginger milk pudding is a MUST try. Most of the desserts and food are good quality.
Desserts made with love! ❤️
Not too sweet & made with fresh ingredients.
Service staff were pleasant and patient.
Thank you for the impeccable service. We’ll come back again! 👍🏻
This dessert specialist in Katong is a real gem. In SG it is not so easy to have good traditional Chinese dessert. Jin Yu Man Tang is almost as good as those you can have in HK and that's a big compliment.
I really like their red bean paste with black sesame dumplings. In fact their red bean paste is among the top in SG. Another specialty is their milk-series dessert, like Ginger Milk pudding and Double layer milk pudding. Compared to the very famous Yee Shun Milk Company in Macau, Jin Yu's ones are less dense or thick in texture and so less flavorful but there aren't any others here who can make a better offer.
I would give them a five star if Covid-19 stretches on without much hope to travel but then HK is now within reach and hence my 4 stars.
At first was excited to try out this dessert place, but was put off after ordering because of the unfriendly cashier. So will think twice before visiting again. Taste wise is ok.
Good dessert, reasonable price.
The place is a great space away from the main street of katong. Offering lots of variety of Chinese desserts, you be in lost of what to choose from. Been here twice but the desserts will passable but not great
Desserts are good. Even the small selection of savory items are tasty. Recommended. A small comment for the Cheng Teng is that it can be better as it is currently too bland.
Desserts were average but service by the service staff (middle-aged gentleman) was very good.
Nice ambiance and food but poor service. As another reviewer mentioned, we were served by this rude guy who was fixated on getting a table number even though the restaurant was empty.
Desserts here aren't terrible but definitely a stretch to call them good.
Very delicious, must try the ginger milk pudding!
Decent Chinese style dessert and some unique milk based ones
Nice place, good dessert, good price.
Hong Kong stye, or possibly Taiwanese. Not my favourite but worth trying.
Love the place
A delicious Chinese dessert shop. Milk fritters are not greasy and delicious. Bubur Hitam had almost no losses on this day. I wish the staff at the store were a little more friendly...
We went to a Cambodian dessert shop and ordered ginger milk. It was amazing. The staff poured the milk into the bowl in front of you and then covered it for 5 minutes. It would solidify and the ginger milk taste was very fragrant. 👍🏻, black The glutinous rice ice cream is delicious👍🏻, and the sea coconut snow pear cream is very refreshing. My favorite❤️
You have to wait 4 minutes for the ginger milk to taste delicious.
