Reviews of Johor Road Boon Kee Pork Porridge
Cycled down to the area to find food and saw the good review.
The porridge is nice and smooth and the inner organs are well prep. The only thing I find room for improvement is the marinate for the meat which is a little too strong for the porridge as we sometimes will eat the ingredient alone without porridge so It will be a little over if you did that.
Recommended that you order the $5.50 portion as the portion jump from $4.50 from $5.50 is a quite big.
Classic old-school porridge.
Love the taste of the smooth porridge.
Had the mix pork porridge and added an egg for $5.
Good value and heartwarming. Will definitely revist.
25 July 2024.
Had lunch here.
This is my 3rd time coming here and finally I get to try this porridge. The first time I came it was sold out. Second time was closed.
This time round I check online to make sure today is not their resting day and I make a point to come early.
This place is somewhat difficult to find a parking lot. Try finding one at the open space but no chance. Finally I parked inside the multi storey carpark behind.
When I reached many patrons already sitting in their table waiting for their porridge to be ready. I quickly order mine and find a table to sit down. Ordered a standard pork porridge and added a chicken egg.
Waited about 25 mins for this bowl of porridge. The porridge is quite tasty and they are quite Generous with ingredient. Price is reasonable. Will eat again if the waiting is not more than 30mins. But I understand the usual waiting time is 1 hour.
Anyway, overall this porridge is Not bad eat. Can try.
Hearty, familiar & consistent.
Pork porridge as it should be.
You wont be disappointed.
Ingredients fresh, even the pork liver was tasty and chewy. Some places overcook it and it becomes too firm. This place does it perfectly.
I am not a porridge person, if I does, it usually only sin heng kee at hougang but this johor road pork porridge does it even better. its creamy texture did wonders. Gotten the pork with fish porridge with egg($5.50). It was packed with all sorts of ingredients such as pork liver, pig stomach, minced pork ball, sliced fish, you tiao, 冬菜 perserved vegetables, fried shallots, and spring onions. It was very savoury and flavourful with an additional dash of pepper and some cut chili 😋
The porridge is very yummy, but the wait is very long(20mins), even for queue less than 10.
Delicious porridge done in the traditional way. Wait was almost 15 mins on a weekend. The meats were full of flavor and well seasoned for porridge.
Arrived 6.53am to beat the crowd, 7 min after stall opened. Was 9th in row with many orders for tabao ahead. Only one person cooking, taking orders, serving and collecting money. 2 others came along after 7.10am and things sped up.
Finally got our order half hour later. Porridge had bountiful ingredients, so that is the only reason to come here. We had mixed pork with intestines and cuttlefish. $5.50 with egg. The intestines were soft and nice. Cuttlefish was good too. Porridge taste was disappointingly bland even though we went back to add 2 tablespoons of soya sauce. Can’t recommend as taste was not outstanding, no umami taste, and the wait was too long for a low peak period.
Porridge taste is nice , and the quality maintain good many many years.
Self service, and during peak hours is required long waiting time, but I am willing to wait.
If non peak hours then quite fast.
Just a normal food place/coffee shop that without Aircon,
You may feel hot if the outside is hot sun.
The porridge was average and I find it too plain for me.The you tiao dough was tasteless and fluffy and didn’t go too well with the porridge. The porridge portion was generously big with plenty of ingredients when you go for the big bowl. This stall does not suit me well but they do have big pool of loyal supporters. Prepare to wait for at least 30 mins and above during peak period. Sorry folks no more casino chip for your waiting number now as they are using disposable paper with scribble queue number for you in view of the Covid safety measure.
The queue for a pipping hot bowl of porridge can be long! Reached the stall just before 7.30am on a Sunday morning, there were many patrons seated, some tucking in and others still waiting for roll call.
Ordered the basic small pork porridge bowl without egg. Tasty porridge which is smooth and easy to take in. All the condiments like spring onions, pepper and preserved vegetable (冬菜) are offered.
Liver still tender, meat balls fairly lean and sliced pork not over-cooked. Fried dough is reasonable, but not crisp.
Not easy to find a decent bowl of honest porridge these days. This is good.
Revisited stall on 3rd week of June 2022 and prices have been upped by 50 cents, across the board. This time round, we ordered the big bowl of pork porridge without egg at $4.50. Besides minced pork, tender pork slices and liver, 2 pieces of pig stomach gets thrown in. A pleasant surprise.
This is one of the best porridges I’ve eaten. Be prepared to wait, ordered the minced meat century egg porridge, waited like 30mins. This is a huge bowl of porridge, lots of meats and century egg($5). I think it’s the garlic oil which brings out the essences of the porridge. Lovely…
This porridge stall serves good, thick and delicious porridge.
Situated in the heart of Little India, this stall is popular for its porridge.
There are some standard porridge available. You can order additional items to be added to your order including portions for eggs, pork liver, etc.
I ordered the pork porridge with Cuttlefish and with aded egg. It was piping hot thick porridge, one of the best I ever tasted.
The waiting time is manageable with the electronic queue number display.
Would be glad to go back for more.
Friend recommended this hainanese porridge, best in central area. Went on a Monday and it was closed. Read the stall notice, they are closed on Monday and Tuesday.
Today, made another trip to try out. Spoke hainan to order $5 pork porridge, and was told the wait time is 25 mins.
While waiting, ordered a cup of coffee $1.40. coffee was brewed by a lady and it's not bad. Waited for about 20 mins and my number is called.
First taste was not bad. Piping hot porridge, was looking forward for the familiar taste of sesame oil but didn't had any. There's bit of salted radish which is common in hainanese porridge. There's quite a lot of meat, offal and pork liver. Missing minced pork ball infused with sesame oil.
Overall, a good bowl of hainanese pork porridge. The best bowl of porridge was at Marine Terrace (Xin Xian pork porridge), unfortunately the old sisters decided to retire quite some years ago.
Decent porridge. Waiting time can be long depending on when you visit. Even at opening hour 645am, we had to wait for 30 mins.
A great stall to get good porridge, only if you have tons of time waiting for it.
Waited 30min for a bowl of pork porridge. Lucky they have an old school call by number system so don't have to wait standing in a queue line. Porridge was good but tasted a bit plain for my taste bud.
Very tasty pork porridge in old school style. For lovers of pig liver and stomach, you won’t be disappointed. Pork is well treated and clean. It’s a gem. Queue time was ok - reached at around 8 and around 6 in front of my queue number; very organised.
Porridge is cooked till broken but not mushy. The secret is in the seasoning of the porridge.
It came with minced and lean pork with intestine which were all nicely cooked. The Chinese crullers were neligible.
Addition of an egg was flavorsome. Option of century egg is available.
Fried garlic and shallots were freshly prepared and were outstanding, giving it another dimension.
Ordered the small assorted (mix) porridge with egg for $3.50, giving them 5-star because it is affordable, generous with for the amount of portion that they're giving, and it is absolutely delicious!
They throw in different variety of ingredients, sliced chicken, minced pork, pork liver, egg, and you tiao. Reminded me of this old porridge stall in a temple in Kuching.
Would recommend if you're not in a hurry, they will give you a poker chip/token with number after placing your order, waiting time can be up 20 minutes depending on the crowd.
The porridge is excellent. A real old fashion home made type. Ingredients are fresh, and every bowl to your choice and taste. But the wa.....i....ting can be more than half hour.
This is my most favourite porridge stall, I always order chicken / cuttlefish porridge with egg. Do prepare to wait 30 mins on a weekday & over an hour during weekends. To avoid waiting, you can call & order in advance. Cheers & enjoy the porridge.
Heart warming early morning breakfast (7am) to avoid long queue.
Flavourful teo chew porridge with generous portion of pork meat and innards especially the pork liver. Tasted " tung chai" in the porridge.
Good bowl of porridge; fresh, clean tasting .
One of the best congee I've had in SG.
It is a lot of congee you will get for $4.50. Loaded full with wonderful ingredients of your choice. Well seasoned in the kitchen. Additional soya sauce or pepper, not necessary. Absolutely lovely.
Downside. Waiting past 45 minutes for my number to be paged.
Being a Hainanese and having a grand aunt selling porridge, I was pretty determined to pay a visit. This morning I exited at Farrer Park MRT and in my excitement, took a wrong exit and did a full patrol of the hospital at Farrer, no suspicious person found. Lol.
Back to the porridge, spoke in Hainanese and asked for big serving of the pork porridge and an egg. Took a number tag and waited, I already saw more than 10 tables occupied. The porridge was really old school, served with preserved vegetable, shallots, nicely sliced pork, stomach, liver and meatballs, all of which are well seasoned. The base of the porridge itself showed that this is no normal porridge. The liver was cooked to the right timing and the stomach was thinly sliced giving the right chew, sliced pork was also done nicely. The egg was cooked just the way I like it, not too runny and raw.
Definitely recommended and can make a trip down to eat it.
Very spoon is full of meat. Very nice and value for money, waiting time is about 20min on weekday lunch time.
They will give you a number to go collect your food when it is ready so you can seat down while waiting.
Ordered via phone call first
Then went down closer to our queue number.
So not as bad.
Still about an hour so wait.
Porridge is so yummy.
Really delicious Hainanese style of porridge. Unlike the cantonese style whereby the porridge has a thick consistency. The Hainanese is more watery. Had the small portion with egg added ($3.50).waited for close to half an hour before it was my turn. Porridge was delicious, generous amount of sliced and minced pork. Highly recommended!
Somehow I knew the order was going to screw-up when the person in-charge of taking order was so distracted. For 3-4 times she asked for my order and immediately turn away and attended something esle, after finally taking my order and knowing that I am ordering 1 packet, she gave that sighed expression as if telling me that after all these while I am still just ordering ONLY 1 packet. And upon picking up my order, I knew immediately they mixed up my add-on century egg with chicken egg but I just don't bother to change it even if they will given their slowness and yet constant agitation.
Super packed porridge. We ordered the all in version with cuttle fish, sliced fish, pork, liver, stomach, century egg, dongcao...$5.50 more ingredients than rice porridge. Very tasty.
But be prepared to wait. Our order took 45mins, but worth it.
My favorite pork porridge. Unlike many food stalls, they prepare their own fried shallots and garlic instead of using commercially available ones.
Half an hour wait on this pork + chicken porridge at Sunday lunch almost 1 pm. It was good, but worth the wait? Maybe...if you have the patience.
Go for the pork porridge. Small, big, with or without egg. Reasonably priced. Take your que number and prepare to wait for at least half an hour during peak period. Delicious traditional Hainanese food. Worth the wait.
Super delicious porridge, especially the mixed pork with fish, perfect combination. The liver is fresh n still oozing. Let it cook alittle in the hot porridge but not for too long so that it is still powdery texture n fragrant.
To get there: jalan besar mrt or rochor mrt. From rochor mrt, exit B and walk along perak Road. Enjoy the ambience along the way.
Very nice porridge. Thick and lots of ingredients. Can’t go wrong for $5
Flavourful congee!Chock full of ingredients! But the dough fritters are too dense for me! Overall, delicious! Parking available at the building.
Perfectly delicious porridge. Can understand why it’s popular despite the waiting time. 🤤
One store right smacked in the midst of little India. There is a reason why the porridge here has been so popular for many years.
Even locals from all over Singapore would come here for its porridge. Long queue is expected sometimes more than 30min because the orders are ongoing till it's sold out.
I do not eat porridge and only eat the better ones. This is one stall not to be missed if you are in little India.
Simple menu that has pork balls perfectly marinated, definitely worth a repeated visit!
The coffee shop st Veerasamy Road is famous for its Johore Road porridge, Fried Chicken wings and Pork & Liver noodles.
We came before 12pm and there was a 15-20mins waiting time already. It was very comforting with generous ingredients. Each bowl is cooked to your preference.
Fantastic tasting tradition porridge. I can see why their queue is so long. They use a digital queue system so do not be deceived by the lack of a physical queue. Great place to go for any porridge cravings. Just be prepared to wait for it.
Queues are long, but if you're an old school person, this is probably one of the best old school porridges around. They used to be a push cart hawker stall along Johor Road, and is now much better managed here.
The pork and fish porridge is their classic, but the pork porridge is also good. Add an egg, and you're good to fly for the afternoon. Weekends get really crowded, especially in the mornings. So be mindful.
Pretty good bowl of porridge. Very tasty with ingredients such as liver, pork etc. Only down side is the wait but that's cos every bowl is made on the spot. They were spot on when they said 1 hour wait. I was there at 1105am. I had to Tabao cos I was done with my original order of Mui Siong Noodles which was also good. Have some Victor chicken wings too while u wait. Good food all around in this coffeeshop.
Very nice and lots of liao. But pls note quite a lot of MSG!
Ordered “all in” porridge $7, with all my fav ingredients inside very flavorful!
Not much q on a nice weekday morning!
Recommended!
Breakfast of champions! A super old school porridge. When you see all the older folks queueing with tokens in hands you know that they know where the good stuff is at! For a period of time I ate this every morning. You can tell them what you want in the porridge and add egg and century egg. The lady cook in the very early morning is not as consistent but once you get to the normal morning hours onwards the boss lady and boss man are much more consistent in the cooking.
Been having porridge here for many years. Consistent and generous with ingredients. Can be a wait.
Havent had such porridge since the burbur in Bali or the chok in Hongkong. Very similar texture and comforting to the stomach. SURPRISINGLY HYGENIC TOO. We noticed the helper wiping every utensil before passing it to the customer. Not sure if it is a new COVID habit but very much welcomed. Just avoid going in the afternoon during peak hour traffic. The noise from the road is unbearable if you are dining in.
You can't find a more tasty pork porridge (incl. Stomach, liver) Singapore for $4/4.50. Queues for breakfast are now at least 1/2 hour long on weekends
Great liver and porridge.
Definitely the best porridge that I have tried in Singapore. They have various choices for you to order and mix your porridge such as chicken & pork porridge. Like to eat the porridge here with century egg and worth for your try.
One of the best porridge in Singapore. In the same coffee shop there is fried chicken wings and liver soup that are awesome.
Cheap and relatively delicious porridge. Do note that there might be quite a bit of a queue during peak hours but that's just a testimony as to how good it is.
Wow very yummy and too much ingredients.
My favourite porridge place in Sg.
Hearty meal!
Highly recommended ♡
Porridge was smooth, good taste, value for money. Expect 15 min wait minimum even during off-peak hours
Affordable but tasty porridge! One of the only porridges I’d eat! Love the service of the young lady who’s helping out there every weekend 😊
One of the best porridge in Singapore! Every mouthful is filled with ingredients! Be prepared to wait though as they are quite popular..
Authentic taste and reasonably priced pork porridge. Starts at $3.00 and $3.50 with an egg.
1st time patronise this stall... waited 1 hrs for my morning bf porridge....food so so lah
The porridge very yummy & rich! Lots of ingredients. Will patronise again
yummy n generous with ingredients, a warm breakfast to soothe the tummy . will surely return to support this stall
Porridge very good, with many options. Well done at good price. Thank you.
Pay $5.5 you can have quite alot of ingredients like poke, century egg, slice fish, cuttle fish, pig intestine, egg & pig liver too
Very good porridge, waited 35mins...worth the wait !
To beat the crowd. Advisable to come before 7.30am. Closed on Mondays
This place is over rated. Nothing fantastic.
Traditional Hainanese style porridge. Tasty :)
Tasty pork porridge, worth the money
Very nice old school porridge give it a try!
Prepare to queue one hour onward
Excellent
I ate pork and chicken porridge topped with egg. As rumored, you need to be prepared to wait 30 to 40 minutes, but it was delicious with a piping hot ginger flavor.
2022.5 Added
I suddenly had a craving for food and came back.
When we arrived at 9am, we were told we would have to wait 90 minutes, but we waited patiently for about 70 minutes. Enjoy the all-in, which was prepared a little earlier. Delicious.
It was the most delicious porridge I've ever eaten.
It had a lot of ingredients and I was full.
It took about an hour from when I ordered it to when it came out. It seems like you can order in advance by phone, so I think it's best to order before you go.
Makansutra 5/6
<Pros>
Generous ingredients for "ALL inclusive porridge"
ingredients are tasty and
fried onion and oil added nice flavor
<Cons>
Too long waiting hours (10:30AM Sun, 70min)
The all-in-one porridge comes with a wide variety of toppings and is very satisfying.
A type of porridge with rice grains remaining.
Almost all the customers who come to this coffee shop
Since I was here for the porridge, I had to wait a long time.
