Reviews of The Headless Baker 無 頭 師
Always a joy to buy tea cakes from this stall, as Uncle Pong's service is top-notch. My daughter's favourite is the Lavender Earl Grey, while my personal favourites are Matcha and Hojicha Financier. Haha, I cannot decide whether matcha or hojicha is better as both are so rich in flavour. Every time when I bring the cakes to my friend's place, everyone is delighted during the unboxing. They go 'wuuu' and 'ahhh' and they start asking me what's what.
The delicious-looking bakes caught my eye, and I'm so glad I decided to try one. It was absolutely amazing. While I've been in the area, I've missed out on these treats before. If you're nearby, definitely give it a try.
Interesting bakery selling upper class types of cakes, muffins, scones and other baked goods in a hawker centre. Prices are higher than the average item in a hawker centre but I suppose you oy for the novelty and quality and work that goes into it. Taste and portion size seemed quite fair to the prices charged. Would I buy again? Maybe, if I am in the area.
Bought the lemon pistachio at $3 a pc, alittle too sweet n wld prefer bit more lemon taste. Bought their chocolate brownie taste alight, can't remember the name but is triangular in shape at $5 a pc. Find it too big a pc, wld be better if is smaller a little. Taste so so, dark chocolate taste with a little sticky chewy texture. Like the Canberries cake, buttery n fragrantly soft. Stall owner was so nice to give me a free lemon pistachio, a very friendly n warm seller. For that l wld give a extra 10 points. Overall rating 70/100.
My favorite is cinnamon rolls. A bit sweet but i like the taste of cinnamon. No yeast. My children like matcha financier. Would like to try banana loaf next time.
Nice bakery at ghim moh hawket market.
Not so sweet desserts but rich in flavour.
Affordable for all items.
Friendly owners serving guest promptyly.
No queue at around 10am.
They have another branch at star vista mall but items they sell in different branch looks slightly different.
Wife happened to walk by this new bakery and bought us some slices of cake.
We tried their pistachio lemon cakes and blueberry cakes, and we all love it so much.
Next time maybe we will order in advance to buy back a banana loaf, it is looks so yums!
Highly recommend to give them a shot and it is not overly expensive as each slice of the cake is $3.00😍
I bought one Earl Grey for $3, a tad bit too expensive for the size and for the shop being located at a hawker centre. Afterwards I realised that they have a shop at Star Vista, so I would understand if the intention is to match the pricing across the different locations.
I really liked it as it is beautifully made - the decorated tea leaves on the icing was very tasteful visually. Taste wise I was pleasantly surprised! It tastes as good as it looks! It was not too sweet and I could really taste the earl grey. I would buy again, but likely only during the “treat yourself” days as it is not very affordable.
Got their matcha financier and a banana cake. The banana cake is moist and fluffy but lacks the banana taste. Prefer the financier as it’s dense and has a nice distinctive matcha flavour.
Dad bought scones and matcha ganache cake to try when he went to Ghim Moh Market to buy lunch. The matcha ganache cake was a real gem! Thick luscious ganache was sweet but not overly so, and had fragrant matcha flavour. Cake was a nice balance between soft and dense. The scones however were disappointing - very dense, dry and flavourless, with or without reheating. Had to be rescued by butter or jam unfortunately.
Really talented and young team working behind the counter. Tried the restless cinnamon roll and earl grey cake! Extremely delightful, not too sweet, great flavour and really pretty! Sadly my family finished the cinnamon roll before I could take a pic and the cake was half eaten😭
Bought their lemon pistachio, pandan, Earl grey lavander and cinnamon bun.
I loved the lemon pistachio, it was moist and it tasted great :) I wouldn't mind if there was more citrus flavour in the icing :)
While the pandan and earl grey lavander were fragrant, I wished there was more icing on both as the cake was a little too dry. The flavouring in the Earl grey lavander was a bit too strong and ended up tasting a tad too earthy/bitter.
The cinnamon bun had a nice cinnamon flavour. I liked the texture of the bun and the sugar coating. However, likewise, it was a little too dry and I wished there was either more filling or maybe icing over it so that it would be more moist.
Overall, giving it 5 stars as the bakes still tastes great. I will be back for the lemon pistachio and to try their other bakes :)
A delight and a must-visit every time you're in Ghim Moh.
Even the scones are good!
Lovely little tea cakes and bakes in a tiny stall in the hawker centre.
Cakes 🍰🧁🥧 were very delicious, full of decadence!! Simple yet flavourful. Give it a try when ur there 😛😋😋 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Tasty small cakes with very reasonable price. Lemon pistachio is awesome
Great place with great bakes. The cakes are pretty much always moist and tasty. Though on the sweet side of things their chocolate bundt cake, sable/chocolate cookies and lemon pistachio are easy favourites even after 3 years of eating them (I think they have all collectively hindered my weight loss programme).
Best of all Headless always seems to be innovating and coming up with new offerings. Recently I was tempted by their oatmeal cranberry cookies and though it was sweet for my tastes it somehow wormed its way into my current favourites list. 5 stars for sure!
Super friendly uncle and young lady manning the stall, it looks super yummy and prices are reasonable too!
Tried the lemon pistachio and earl grey lavender and I have to say that the flavoured glaze on top of each cake is the main selling point as the cake itself is not sweet or flavorful.
Especially for the lemon pistachio where the lemon glaze gave flavour to the whole cake covering any hints of pistachio.
Earl grey lavender had an extra point where they added orange zest to the cake for a different texture but the glaze saved the day yet again.
2nd visit finally got their banana cake, pandan and dalgona coffee. I feel the 2nd time works a charm as the items tasted better than the 1st visit. Definitely get the pandan and dalgona coffee if you like the taste. Banana cake was moist too but if they added a tad bit walnut to the small cube, it would be the perfect icing on the cake 😊 they have walnuts in their half loaf banana so get that if you have people to share it with
Lovely ladies manning the small stall btw
Banana cake and salted caramel popcorn cake were phenomenal! Such a good find!
Got the scone and the matcha (I think) bundt. The scone was a tad too dry and did not have the buttery crumbly texture I was looking for and have come to love. The bundt was fine, with the taste lifted by the matcha "jam" - on it's own, less interesting.
Tried the brownie meringue ($2) and matcha red bean ($3). Tasted average...overwhelmed by the sweetness. Would be better if it was less sweet.
The snacks are too sweet. The price does not match the size.
First time eat this lemon and Pandan cake. The taste was good. Especially the lemon one. It is not too dry. Will come again to buy.
Bought the cinnamon, coffee roll. Would prefer them to be a little less sweet though~
It's expensive in my opinion. The scone is quite bland without the sweet smell of butter.
Nice cakes and very friendly uncle! Will definitely revisit soon :)
DELICIOUS CAKES!
My eldest child loves her Flourless dark chocolate cake the most
