Reviews of Maybank Bedok
I had to visit a Maybank branch as my attempts to download its new app failed which were per other users’ reviews. I wanted to go to the Tampines Central branch but there were so many negative reviews about poor service and long waiting time. The Bedok Central branch also had the same negative reviews. Left with no other option in these two towns, I chose to go Bedok and hoped that all turned out okay.
I arrived at 12:17pm on Tuesday 12/11/24 and was given a queue number by the female Cisco officer. There were 3 customers ahead of me in this queue. While waiting, I overheard a woman with a loud patronising tone advising an elderly man and his banking details could be heard. The woman turned out to be the infamous “auntie reception staff” with initials SO mentioned in previous Google reviews of this branch.
As I was unsure if I was in the correct queue, I spoke with her briefly and her attitude was overwhelmingly scary. Made me felt like I was such a bother to take up her precious time! Frankly, this person is not suitable to be a frontliner. There was no warmth and sincerity in her tone. Facial language was not inviting.
Most importantly, she did not respect customers’ right to privacy. She spoke so loudly that I knew what kind of services five customers wanted!
Fortunately my number was called at around 12:35pm and I was attended to by Ms Brenda at counter 5. She listened attentively and was patient with positive facial expressions. Eye contact was sincere. I sensed her willingness to help. She explained clearly without jargon and very quickly settled my request for a physical token. Apparently Maybank only issues physical tokens to corporate customers and not individuals (this wasn’t stated at the website!) but Ms Brenda helped to get approval within minutes.
By 12:46pm, I was done and left with a physical token as per my intention and more importantly, as per Maybank’s website information.
Conclusion: I was quite lucky my visit was only about 30 minutes and generally a positive experience, thanks to the efficient service by Ms Brenda.
Recommendation to other customers: Go on a weekday and not at the beginning of the week ie: Monday or start/ end of the month to avoid businesses/ people making withdrawals after payday/ renewing fixed deposit.
Suggestion to Maybank management: Do consider having a more welcoming officer as the first contact point for customers and general enquiries. First impressions are important. And there are already very poor reviews online about the Bedok Central branch.
Always crowded and service can be slow. Have not seen staffs trying to spped things up. Average wait time can be more than 15-30 mins. Crowded control not the greatest.. Everyone looked busy.
