Reviews of Cafe Lilac by Whisking Bakes
So grateful to the shop for taking my order despite it being a last minute request. Ordered the strawberry and taro whole cake and you could taste the freshness of the ingredients. Cake was a refreshing change from the usual store bought flavours and was not too sweet. Definitely given the thumbs up by the birthday recipient.
Nice cosy cafe with good food but could improve on service. The taromisu and the taro latte that we had was great in presenting the taro taste - no sign of excess sugar. Service wise could be improved by being more friendly and interested (not that the staff was rude or anything).
A really cute place, first time trying taro and I loved it! Took the iced taro latte on oatmilk and it was perfect. The banana muffin was really good too. Cute place to sit for awhile and nice staff.
Chanced upon this cafe while I was in the area with my boyfriend. Even though we came in 30 mins before closing, the environment was really nice, and the cakes (strawberry longan and taro chiffon) were really great! It wasnt too sweet and it has a pleasant texture! Would love to come back again but at an earlier timing :)
The food was delicious and reasonably priced (<$10 for cakes/ drinks). Would recommend the taromisu ($7.50) and taro crepe cake ($8.00). For drinks, we tried the new taro strawberry latte which was great! Ambience was great as well and quiet on a weekend. Would definitely visit again 😊
I learnt of this cafe last weekend after IU's recent concert but it was packed as there were promotions, so I didn't manage to make it then. So this Labour Day holiday, I came here in the afternoon for a break and I like the chill atmosphere here to get a respite from the heat! Got myself the chocolate hazelnut cake and a long black for my afternoon tea and as a fan of IU myself, I get to pick up a fan chant guide as a souvenir from her recent concert! It is a good 5-10 mins walk from Lavender MRT station exit A, will support again! 😊😊
This is a small cafe which serves very nice taro-misu. (Cost $8.25 w gst) pretty good place to chill though can only talk softly due to a small place/ low ceiling.
Had to visit this place because I am a taro fan and wanted to see what they have to offer.
A small cafe with simple decor and nice desserts to try, I walked to the counter and asked the staff to recommend me some items to try. They were very patient in explaining and I decided to order the 2 more popular items.
1st had the Taro mochi Swiss roll. It was quite light and wasn't sweet. Enjoyed the cake but the mochi was kinda cold and hard it wasn't easy to cut it with the little fork and turned out to be a little messy on the plate. Cake was okay but would be nice if the mochi was softer.
2nd had the Taromisu. Was glad it didn't have alcohol and coffee as I didn't like both of the ingredients. This one was a little sweeter and I thought it was really well done. Could enjoy the different layers of textures and flavours. I liked this a lot and was a joy eating it.
The thing I didn't like was the black sesame latte. It sounded very interesting but the outcome wasn't something I expected. The drink tasted very mild of the black sesame and it just felt like mixing a scoop of black sesame powder to milk. The 2 ingredients didn't blend together.
Hope will have the chance to try other taro desserts next time.

Went back again after 10 months. They have grown so much now is a full shop with spacious dining area. There's more variety now with Korean dishes. Too bad already had dinner only dropped by for desserts. Taromisu tasted better but the taro pork floss sando was kinda dry for my liking. Choux puff had too little taro taste more overwhelmed by the cream.
Limited seats but served delicious and very filling of taro puff. Will come back to try other desserts. Provides wifi but limited charging point in the cafe.
Ordered delivery and first try with their taromisu, it’s delicious. I personally do not recommend the taro crepe cake cause cannot taste much on taro and its bit dry.
I had the chance to visit this cafe after lunch on a weekday and it was a quiet affair. Shortly after I sat down, a few more groups came in probably wanting a place to relax before heading back to office.
The cafe was bigger than expected, and has a variety of seating area from sofas, to countertops looking outside to normal table and chairs. I would think it would make a good place to do some work even.
The cafe seems to specialize mainly in taro incorporated products. I had the taromisu which I saw on social media, and it tasted as good as it looks. While there seems to not have any coffee like the usual tiramisu, the taro flavor was pronounced and if you enjoy such flavors you’ll definitely like it. As a post lunch snack however, it was rather heavy and took me awhile to finish. Nonetheless I enjoyed it very much. For the quality and the nice decor, I consider the price to be pretty reasonable ($7.50). Would consider coming back to try more of their cakes and pastries!
I was having really bad pcd and was glad that Cafe Lilac hosted an after party for Uaenas. And best thing is that my hubby and I are orh née lovers ❤️ 😋. We have tried the tiramisu & pulut hitam orh née cakes and they tasted interestingly nice. My hubby said he will definitely come back again for the tiramisu cake. However we were a little sad as we didn't get to try the strawberry taro cake as the last slice just sold out right before our turn to order. 😭
A great little shop for a girl's afternoon tea, not too big, with a nice quiet environment for conversation. The prices are not very high, around S$15 per person, no GST or service charge. I went early in the morning and didn't get the signature puffs, but the Taromisu was very good! It's not too sweet, and the coffee is super tasty, with a taro milk cap on top.
𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗼 𝗠𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗶 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘀𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗹 ($6.50)
We simply could not resist ordering this gorgeous item. There was a good proportion of mochi to cake which was absolutely delicious. However, the roll itself was a little dry and dense - perhaps there could be more taro paste and chantilly cream in between to help lighten it up. We were eyeing their Taromisu ($7.50) because it looked really good and we’d definitely get it the next time.
𝗜𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗰 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲 ($6.50)
Every element of this beautiful drink was made from scratch. The taro paste at the bottom was sweet and chunky, and it paired perfectly with the creamy milk. The taro latte was definitely on the milkier side and we wished there was more taro incorporated into the drink. The hot version might have been a better alternative, as the staff shared that it's more creamy.
We also got to try their 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗼 𝗜𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 which we really liked. We would definitely get it again with their waffles or affogato! We have to be honest and say that we weren’t taro fans before visiting the cafe and were lured by how pretty their desserts looked in the different shades of lilac and purple. Nevertheless, we had an enjoyable and pleasant time at their cafe, and there’ll surely be a second time!

Went on a saturday late noon around 3pm and it was super crowded. There were people waiting outside of the cafe. Just a small cafe located under the HDB block.
Ordered their two signatures or rather top two favourites which are Taromisu & Taro Mochi Swiss Roll.
Taromisu ($7.50)
was super rich with taro filling and I felt like I am eating taro cream sponge cake but super dense version. It can be super gelat and heavy to finish on your own so it is recommended to share with your partner. It is not too sweet which I enjoy.
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Taro Mochi Swiss Roll ($6.50)
is my favourite and I will highly recommend as it is light and fluffy. There are taro mochi stuffed in between the sponge which gives a chewy and stretchy texture. It is not super gelat and can be finish on your own.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Overall, I will buy their swiss roll again whenever I am nearby or craving for it as it is a good amount of filling of taro, mochi and not too sweet. Other than that, it can be pricey.
Waiting time was ~10mins for takeaway.
-1 price
Wanted to visit this place for the longest time, and mange to pay a visit this afternoon @3.30pm. Luckily the crowd haven’t kicks in when I arrive as it’s raining (always crowded), plus the staff still have time to recommend what’s the popular order. It’s nice that they still offer set meal during weekend. I ordered a cake & black cofffee for $10. The coffee aroma is nice but it’s at the slightly light taste for me (yes, I’m a coffeeholic. Overall it’s still a good cup of office with the taro cheesecake. As explained, this cake is not sweet and slightly on a creamer side. How I wish that the taro filing layered inside is thicker, creamier and smoother (like orh nee style). Perhaps their bakes is towards western style. Overall it’s still good and can be more special. I also take away 3 more bakes with me before I left, taro misu, taro crepes and taro mochi swiss roll. Then with these 3 pieces of cake, there is a promotion of free ice cream. With hard hearted to resist, I might as well choose the taro flavor. Unexpectedly, it did not survive till the nearest MRT. It’s so good and I finished it way before I step out from under the HDB block. This has proven, dessert should have some extend of sweetness (anyway the taro ice cream is not overly sweet but just nice). I think it will be good to pair this with their waffle. Should come back this humble shop and check it out.
Such a lovely dessert platter to end my day
Cozy and chill
Lychee refresher 6/10; should add soda inside
Price should be written after GST.
Bought a drink at 5.50 but suddenly 6.05.
It took me 5 sec to know is GST.
Oh well but it’s a cozy WFH space. Free wifi
Delicious cakes and cute cafe! Worth visit if you’re in the area and went to the Michelin star pork noodle star next door!
The are known for the taro flavored cakes. Signature is: Taro-misu
A quaint little neighbourhood cafe. I'm a huge fan of Yam/Orh née however some of the items could do better.
Ordered a hot Taro Latte, tasted like yam ice cream which is fine but too sweet that I couldn't finish it.
Yam crepe cake could be improved. Layers are too thick and dry. Strawberry Yam Cake can't taste the Yam, just the strawberry, probably hard to balance both the taste.
Service is warm and welcoming which is a plus point, just pity the cakes doesn't live up to expectations.
Orhnee tarts seem to be their bestseller. Not bad but I'm not a fan of buttery tarts. My friend loves them.
A huge taro fan that I am, I’ve been meaning to try this place!
Similar to other reviewers, the taro cake really isn’t good. I ordered the Oreo taro chiffon cake - which doesn’t have a hint of taro taste or texture, just cream.
Standard service, nothing worth shouting out.
The environment is comfortable so that’s good.
Will I come again? No.
Update to reply owner:
Hi there! Thanks for making time to reply my review. I do apologise for recommending another business’ taro and I have taken down the recommendation. However, I stand by what I said and perhaps you would like to give them a try. Another apology I’d like to make is mistaking the fusion as Oreo. It seems I can’t recall what the other addition to the taro is. Nonetheless, I do make my own taro paste at home for many years and I reckon it does not have anything to do with shallot or coconut milk as I don’t add anything else other than water and from time to time, pandan leaves. But you’re right, this is your business and it doesn’t come without hard work. I wish you all the very best!
Really delicious Taromisu!! 😋 A unique kind of tiramisu using taro & it's not overly sweet! Cafe was not crowded at all during weekday nights! Staff were very friendly too! Will go back again 😊
Nice taro-inspired cafe!
Taro-Misu 💵6.50
My favourite dessert among the two we tried. More taro paste here, which goes well with the creamy mascarpone cheese!
Taro Mochi Swiss Roll 💵5.50
I enjoy the elements, such as the yummy taro chantilly cream and chewy milk mochi centre. But there is less taro taste here and I feel the cake sponge can be fluffier.
Iced Taro Latte 💵6.50
Smooth drink but I wish there is more taro as the taro tastes pretty subtle here.

Drinks and food are average cafe price, however they don’t charge extra for changing to oat milk which I really appreciate! Not sure what brand they use (oatside?) but it was very rich, creamy and fragrant which I liked a lot. Some might find the coffee slightly weak, but I guess that has to do with the beans or extraction. Cozy atmosphere. Wifi and some charging points available. Water provided for self-service too
Service is pretty slow. The bakes are also quite mediocre. Would like to note that the taro tarts were quite bad. The tart dough still had a taste of raw flour. The sliced cake was also very wet. The only one that was nice was the roll cake. Overall cheap but i don’t think it’s worth going again. On a Saturday, most cakes are sold out around 3pm when we went.
Taromisu
💵$6.50
I really loved how the tarp was so smooth and it wasn’t overly sweet!
There was different layers of textures and flavours as you can see from the picture! Definitely perfect for all ages 😋 I’m sure kids will love this!
Soft and creamy taro dessert definitely made my belly happy 👍🏻 I liked this a lot and enjoyed having it! Thumbs up 😃
Overall, rating this a ⭐️⭐️⭐️/⭐⭐⭐
Cute cafe that specialises in Taros 💜
I would highly recommend y’all to visit this place to satisfy your orh nee cravings 💖
We would be back to satisfy our orh nee cravings!
The taromisu cake was surprisingly good and not too sweet! Strongly recommended for taro lovers (and non-taro lovers too since they have non-taro menu items too!)
The Taro Tart was to die for. So soft that it melts in your mouth. Perfect sweetness. The Chocolate Chips also one of my favorite. Greetings from The Netherlands 💜💜💜
It's an absolute haven for orhnee fans like myself. Couldn't even resist an extra take out. Ambience was cosy and the crew was extremely friendly and service-oriented. Their flavorful brews perfectly complemented the cakes & pastries. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or simply a sweet tooth, you're gonna love it. Keep up the amazing work 💖
Such an adorable lilac-coloured cafe. My mom and cousin both happened to be wearing lilac that day too!
Taro latte with oat milk ($6.50) - 4.5 stars
Best taro latte I've had. We didn't have to pay extra for the oat milk too!
Taro-misu - 4.5 stars
Really good!
Taro cake - 4.75 stars
I liked this a bit better than the taro-misu because it had a bit less cream and the texture of the sponge cake was amazing - really moist and soft.
Unfortunately the group in front of us ordered the last swiss roll so we didn't get to try it. I'd definitely come back! Thinking of ordering the swiss roll for my birthday...
Was pleasantly surprised by the drinks! Taro eispanner was an interesting combination and matcha latte also tasted great (FOC change to oat milk). The waffle was bit doughy and hard to chew on though.
Visited Cafe Lilac as they organised an after-party for UAENAs after IU's H.E.R.E.H. World Tour concert in Singapore. We got the chance to try the desserts and bakes designed for IU and her team, on top of the regular menu. Food was great - tried the Taro Burnt Cheesecake which had all the qualities of a great cheesecake plus an innovative taro (yam) layer in between which works really well. Heard great reviews of the Taro-misu as well but sadly it was sold out so didn't get to try.
Atmosphere was also spot on, tastefully decorated cafe - fits the lilac theme very well without being overbearing. Loved the playlist too, good mix of IU's songs across the years, from classic favourites like Good Day and You&I (느랑나) to concert masterpieces like Blueming, Celebrity and Love Wins All. Also some less popular but really good songs like Love Attack and Autumn Morning.
Service was great too. Despite being very crowded, the owner and staff were pleasant and helpful - recommending bakes and drinks based on what customers were looking for. The owner even took time to check with the line of customers outside that we were dining in (customers looking to takeaway could just enter instead of queueing for seats).
Thanks for organising the after-party, and definitely recommend anyone who likes taro to check out Cafe Lilac!
Being an orh nee lover and not a sweet tooth, the orh nee tart balls are awesomeness! The best orh nee bakes ever. Collection was hassle free with friendly staffs! U can even peep into their kitchen for tarts making in progress. Definitely coming back again.
Nice ambience, love the taro latte! Recommend the Taro Choux puff, flavorful creamy filling
came for the IU afterparty and the service was amazing ! their drinks were really good too :) even though it was really hectic with the amount of people that came, they handled it really well !! 🫶
The Taromisu, I simply love it. The taro cake is just as good. I’ll definitely come back again 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I’m a huge fan of taros or anything similar like sweet potatoes!
However I was slightly disappointed after trying their famed CNY orh nee tarts.
The buttery shell is very typical and normal. Very buttery and overwhelmed the taste of the taro.
Taro portion is both as generous as I would like.
Tried the cheesecake and the taromisu, both were a bit disappointing and the latter was too sweet for my liking. The taro taste for both were not strong as expected.
Seats are a bit limited but drinks are nice. Everything is taro themed - the taro creme Americano was 👌
Really enjoyed the dine in experience in this beautiful lilac cozy cafe!
I loved especially the hot cafe latte with taro bites! Smell so good & taste so well! Warm my tummy so much!
The taromisu & taromichi Swiss roll is a must order!!!
Vegetarian friendly cafe with no gelatin, pork oil use in their bakes!
If you love orh nee, you gotta come here! Enjoyed the taromisu, and the kombucha. My partner loved his taro adffogato, and calls it orh nee coffee.
Went too late and there was not much food options available. Do try to go early if you want to try out more taro selections.
Love the newly renovated cafe! It is cozy, seats are comfortably spaced.
The desserts are really good.
I highly recommend the orh nee (taro) tarts (golf balls), taro-misu, and swissroll mochi.
For the drinks, I really love the taro affogato, instead of the usual vanilla ice cream, they use taro ice cream!
I also love the very instagramable lilac lemonade!
If you are that friend who goes to your friend’s wedding dinner because they are serving orh nee for dessert, this is one place you need to visit!
Would only recommend getting the orh nee tarts here! Those are really yummy, not too sweet and really fragrant. Their cakes aren't that nice though, have tried the burnt cheesecake, taro cake and the taro mochi swiss roll. All were a tad bit too sweet for me, and the taro flavour in the cheesecake was way too mild. The sponge cake layers of the taro cake were also rather dry.
Overall, would be back for the tarts but not anything else.
Finally visited this place after hearing about it on Instagram for a while! Really cozy cafe environment and the owner was really friendly!
Unique and creative desserts that taste amazing as well! Worth a visit
Tried Chanel’s bakes since she started her home based business! Her orh nee tarts are super addictive, I would always order them as gifts for my family and friends! Her ONT has a perfect combination of a buttery pastry + not too sweet taro filling!
I also love her Sesame Basque Burnt Cheesecake the most🤤
I absolutely love their cakes — I’m not an orh nee fan as I equate it to the old school dessert which I’m no fan of but this is something else. The taro paste is sooo smooth and fragrant yet not sweet. The baileys cheesecake is a dream, the taste of bailey was STRONG yet not overpowering. I’m so glad I tried and oh, changing of milk base to oat milk is FREE and I so appreciate it as I’m lactose intolerant and usually charged +$1 outside so I’m so soooo HAPPY to find whisking bakes!!!
The girls are really friendly, the coffee is slightly above average but their kombucha is really great. The cookies... Nah, too sweet for my liking and it has gone soft.
Am a all time taro lover and really delighted to know that the store offers Taro specialties dessert. Love the Taromisu and Taro swiss roll! Will definitely come back for it again!
Very addictive orh nee tarts!! 😋 As a very picky person to food, I really love the texture and how the tart melts into your mouth. (It melted my heart too, as it was love at 1st taste ❤️)
Cake are wonderful. Coffee and tea not bad. But the attitude of staff correcting the words of “tiramisu” to “Taro-misu” is so rude.
Travelling far just for chilling but the day was ruin because of attitude.
Owners are super friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend the orh nee tarts and taro latte. Plus they don’t charge extra for non-dairy milk. Will definitely come back to try the other bakes. 😊
Had the pleasure of trying the Bailey's burnt cheesecake, and I definitely would recommend it to anyone who loves cheesecakes. It was creamy and not too sweet. The bailey's taste complimented well with the cheesecake.
Small cafe but amazing taro. I only ate the taro puff, the cream tastes taro, and quite filling too!! The flat white is good
Being a lover of anything orh nee, I send the link of the shop to my sister the moment I woke up on a Sunday morning, wrong decision.
Red flags:
1. I should have waited till my brain woke up to check the reviews, anyone who gave 5 stars recently only had 1 or 2 reviews in their name, would I have gone if my brain was awake? The answer would be a major NO!
2. It wasn't day 1 since their opening but they struggle to keep track of orders.
3. I was disappointed by the cakes, as someone who bakes alot, my definition of fluffy swissroll was definitely different from the blogger.
4. The hojicha and black sesame were not the worst that I had but fails to leave an impression.
I resisted the urge to give 1 star for the lack of quality in the food as the staff were polite and quality fluctuates due to varying factors. However, I wouldn't be back again as even their signature tarts did not leave me craving for more after 1.
Bought the medium size Orh nee balls (25/container) to try. The price increased from $30 to $31 to $35.5 (?) within a short period. The Orh nee balls tasted super nice on the day of collection. Then over the days, the taste became stale. I think because there is no paper/tissue in the container to absorb the oil or greasiness or something, sorry I am not the expert… so recommended to eat while fresh, avoid buying too big a container, or transfer to your own container after collection. And instead of buying during CNY, buy during non peak period? So that the price won’t be so high. :)
Atmosphere is soothing. The cakes and drinks taste really good! First time see orh ni in drinks :)
For taro lovers.
Staffs svc are excellent
Cosy place with a great variety of taro desserts. Especially liked the taromisu!
Nice pastries. Hot food is soso but its affordable and fills the stomach. Take note that there is no toilet in the cafe, you have to use the coffeeshop toilet.
Love their orh nee tarts so much! All orh nees lover should give it a try! My family finished a medium size bottle within a day because we can never stop at 1
Not only are the bakes so good, the store owners are so thoughtful and nice!! Will definitely go back for more 👍🏼
Orderd the 5pc taro tart yesterday it was nice and the texture was good, felt like it could have been a little more sweeter but still was good, but was sad that I pay $7 and was given in a plastic packaging like the mua chee kind, felt that the packaging could been the biodegradable package for the price that im paying.
The orh ngee tart is so good. I am impressed and highly recommend to anyone to try it!
Have visited this place twice. Mum & i enjoyed their taromisu, taro swiss roll & taro latte + friendly service from lady boss & her staff
Yummy! 🤣 had a great time with my friends with great desserts and simplistic yet comfy ambience! ◡̈
The people working there is really friendly and I really love the atmosphere! The drinks and cake were nice too
Had the taro cheese log cake, not much taro taste, cheese taste overwhelmed it.
Nice coffee and dessert, especially love the taromisu 😍
Must try Orh Nee tarts, melt in your mouth, delicious! 👍
Taromisu is full of taro taste. Lilac latte is taro milk with Taro paste. Tarotistic combo I have.
Very delicious!
