Reviews of Hello Arigato Joo Chiat
Staff were all friendly, welcoming and helpful, really enjoyed the dining experience. Ordered a pork katsu sandwich, curly fries that’s signature for Joo chiat outlet and their signature milk toast with ice cream and I’m absolutely blown away by how amazing the texture and flavours of each dish was. 10/10 food, the price is reasonable for the quality you’re getting, good job to the team. Amazing business this is!
I’ve eaten several times of delivery from the Hello Arigato at Upper Thomson, loved the efficiency and tasty food. This time I tried dining in at Joo Chiat outlet. The same dish used a different type of mushrooms, but still very efficient (very impressed with it despite being fullhouse) and properly done. But the change in mushroom somewhat alters the texture and overall feel slightly. Service is absolutely great, all the staff are attentive and willing to help. Somewhat noisy due to too much echo bouncing off the walls. Perhaps can do something about dampening the echoing effect. Happy to have such a nice cosy place in Joo Chiat for a quick lunch.
Staff were all friendly, welcoming and helpful, really enjoyed the dining experience.
Ordered a pork katsu sandwich and I’m absolutely blown away by how amazing the texture and flavors of the sando.
10/10 food, the price is reasonable for the quality you’re getting,
All in all, a nice comfortable place to spend an afternoon with good food, good service.
Really nice and quaint Japanese Cafe in Joo Chiat.
Clean, comfortable with aroma of coffee and toasted buttered bread.
They are famous for their Sando (Japanese Sandwiches) and Japanese Pasta.
We had their Tamago Sando. If u like egg mayonise sandwiches, this takes it to a another level with an Ajitamo Tamago (soft yolked egg) to top the sandwich.
Their Gyu Sando was done just right with the Beef down Medium Rare. Soft and tender on the inside. The as we were 3 people in our group, he helped us quarter the sandwich, which made it easier to eat.
The Mentaiko Pasta had sashimi Scallop (Raw Scallop) which you could request to sear (torch) if u didn't want it raw.
All in all, a nice comfortable place to spend an afternoon with good food, good service.
1. Service was great. Always appreciative of water being given without being asked. Staff is very attentive to refill it too. Glad to be able to get a seat immediately on a weekend lunch time. It’s the first time I also was told that I have a limited time of 90mins in a cafe.
2. Eventually I didn’t stay for more than 90mins because the moment I stepped into the cafe I was hit by the strong greasy smell. Not sure if ventilation was just bad that day. It didn’t make the experience good and the smell lingers on my clothes and hair hours after I left.
3. Coffee was decent, egg sando was great too however I suggest to share as it felt cloying after I finished the whole set.
Been here several times since opening when there isnt that many cafes in joochiat 😂. Ordered via Grab a few times too (food is packed nicely).
Cafe can get quite noisy when busy. Table is not big but overall nice place.
Love Hello Arigato sando especially the tomato sando. So far the best I have tried among cafes that serve sando.
Ebi sando flavour is good too.
Pork katsu is fairly new, meat is tender and juicy (fatty) but not to my taste.
Fries/ tatter tots good always. Fried chicken also worth trying.
Shibuya toast was a disappointment, since I like the sando, was thinking toast should be good too but the bread is dry and not fluffy. Taste is lacking too.
Coffee is good as always.
I wish joo chiat outlet sells donut or have more options for cakes/ sweets.

Now this is a new item on their menu. We were immediately drawn to the 𝟏𝟐 𝑯𝒓 𝑺𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝑽𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒌 𝑪𝒖𝒕 𝑲𝒖𝒓𝒐𝒃𝒖𝒕𝒂 𝑷𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒓 slathered with homemade tonkatsu sauce and japanese mayo, and sandwiched between soft japanese shokupan bread 🥹The pork collar was thick and a blush red marbled with glistening fat. Our first bite in almost sent us to heaven 😇- THE FAT a˛bsolutely MELTED in our mouths, and together with the juiciness of the pork it was a gastronomic experience. The sauces were a wonderful complement, and the shokupan a worthy vessel for these ingredients. If you’re thinking of sharing, we’d suggest you don’t HAHA 😝

We couldn’t leave without ordering their BEAUTIFUL shibuya toasts. This dessert featured golden toast, pistachio gelato, roasted pistachio nuts, chocolate chips and sauce. The toast was absolutely addicting, it was so well buttered and toasted but yet not greasy at all?! 🧈🍞 The pistachio gelato, nut and choc were just a delightful combination to have with this heavenly toast. 🫶🏻
For drinks, we got their 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐚 𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞 ($𝟕) which was refreshing and topped off our meal really well.

Tell tale sign of excellent service. Invited to come in to the cafe 5 minutes before opening time. Other customer with a pet was served water. Napkins auto top-up midway and best is water already on table. Completed dishes cleared quickly. Food wise while the beef and spam sando was good can’t help but feel a little jalak half way through. Shrimp sando was a total miss for us. Signature fries was just way too salty for the aged :). Coffee was smooth and non of the acidic after tastes. All in all good cafe just that not our cup of tea but definitely appreciate the excellent service. Curiosity satisfied.
Really enjoy the food and coffee here - consistently good the past few times! Sandos are yummy, twister fries savoury and tasty, love the coffee. Tried the bkt pasta and it’s good too! Would recommend as one of the cafes to visit along this stretch.
Small shop with simple deco, clean feeling, a standard cafe setting.
Food wise, recommend the toast - solid toast , crispy outside and soft inside, perfectly done.
Beef Sandwich is average, not too special.
The cookie is soft sticky texture , not very special too.
Interesting tea selection of creative flavors, quite refreshing on a hot afternoon, but toast still best to go with a hot coffee- Personal preference.
A bit pricy if considering as brunch or tea /coffee break.
Honestly, decision to eat here is purely random. Opened google map and look for any cafe in Joo chiat.
Randomly picked one, and just walked in.
Ordered a wagyu sando, and a chicken katsu curry sando.
The curry sando was excellent. Full flavour of Japanese curry, but not messy at all.
The wagyu was minced. So the wagyu sando was not as good as the one I had at Guoco tower. But still tasty.
Coffee, too acidic to my liking. But it should be good with milk.
Overall, I would highly recommend this place for brunch. Thumbs up! 90/100!
Enjoyed the gyu sando and Shibuya toast a lot! Dirty matcha was good too! Simple but pleasant meal, staff super friendly and polite. Definitely recommended!
Tried the sando, and it was yummy, just that it did not warrant a $14 price tag. But if you compare it with PS Cafe or Common Man Roasters, this is cheaper. Coffee is alright for about $5 and quite strong. Overall, it was a good experience. Service staff were helpful in recommending the items on the menu. May return with friends to celebrate special occasions.
What a great little japanese sando shop. Great food. Great service. Atmosphere is a little sterile.
Thoroughly enjoyed the service at Upper Thomson outlet and thought I can have a good time here with my friends.
Tater tots is classic, hard to go wrong but the sauce is way too salty. Likewise for the drinks, I wish the portion is bigger for the high price point (that was even before service charge). Skipped the Gyu Sando because honestly, the meat is too tough. So, we go for ebi and tamago sando which were tasty! Sakura ebi udon is good, again it’s the sauce that can be better.
Overall, I just hope the food can be better and bigger portion for drinks and sides because it can be disappointing, especially spending at least close to $40 per pax without alcohol.
Service is great with friendly and attentive staff. Unlucky to be there on a day with bad A/C, they were having kitchen ventilation issues that day.
Get the gyu sando (beef), it's really easy to eat since it tastes good and not messy at all. I admit a preference for tasty sandwiches that don't fall apart.
The har cheong gai sando is a little forgettable.

By now I have been back to this cafe multiple times. This is by far my favourite cafe in Joo Chiat to hangout. I love coming here for a coffee and a snack. A pity I don’t get to see and salivate over their pastries and bakes coz it’s hidden away!
This time I tried the katsu curry chicken sando and it was pretty good with its thick juicy chicken thigh breaded and dosed with Japanese curry sauce. It would be nice to have a bit of an extra sauce by the side coz you can’t get enough of curry! This was accompanied by a refreshing ice black for a hot day.
Nov 2022
Back for the second time. I tried their hot flat white with oat and the Kani Udon. The coffee was good, a tad stronger, which is to my liking. The udon though didn’t have the best presentation but it did actually taste quite good with the chewiness of the noodle and the sweetness of the corn, accompanied with a good portion of crab meat.
A small little minimalist white-themed cafe offering a different selection of cafe food other than the usual. Specialises in sando sandwiches and a quirky selection of food items that you want to try it all. I enjoyed the Tokyo Street Corn, Tamago Sando and the freshly baked Sticky Bun very much as it was all very tasty. The cold brew came in a bottle and was a little too sour for my liking.
Absolutely loved the sandos here! The pork katsu was the most tender & juicy katsu I’ve ever had. The service was also great - they sat us down at the only table available but then moved us to a better one the second it opened up. The ambiance was lovely and modern; definitely want to bring some other friends here and come back!
Simple decor. Friendly and attentive staff. Food was nice. Ordered the ebi sando and hello twister fries. Ebi was a bit blant, while the fries (with cheese and curry) were a bit salty. Iced dirty matcha with coffee was good and not too sweet. Expect to spend at least $20-30 per person.
The place was almost full on a weekday lunch. We have tried Katsu curry sando, kinoko udon, Sakura ebi udon and truffle fries. Will recommend to try all of them. Price is fairly reasonable too. Only gave 3 stars for atmosphere as the deco and seats could be better.
We had to book almost a month in advance for a brunch spot on a Saturday, but we didn’t mind as we’ve heard immensely good things about the venue.
My partner and I shared the chicken sando and ebi sando (which was an outlet exclusive). The ebi sando was definitely the better of the two as we felt the chicken was a bit too fatty. The add on for tater tots was also excellent.
The reason we’ve given a 4* is 1) the venue has virtually no sound proofing so you can hear every clink of cutlery and every soundbite of conversation from everyone in the restaurant; and 2) whilst we were driving over, we got a call 10 minutes before the booking from a member of staff who asked us if we were coming and that the venue was “super busy with a queue so we will give your table away if you’re late.” Lol. Okay?
I understand that it is common practice to confirm a table beforehand. This generally comes in the form of a call or email confirmation a day or two before the booking. The call ten minutes before was a bit unexpected. If you’re going to leave it to the day to call - wouldn’t it make more sense to call if the customer was actually late? To then end the call by saying they’d “give the table away” even after we reassured them we were already almost at the venue was completely unnecessary and left a really sour taste in our mouths.
As much as the food slaps and the presentation being lovely for social media, the tableside manner of the team could do with a bit of sprucing up.
👩🏻🤝👨🏼Our rating guidelines🌻
5/5 🤩 - Excellent experience. Would definitely make an effort to come back if we’re in the city again. Would even queue up for the food - and we hate queuing 🤣
4/5 😊 - Very good experience with some room for improvement. Would come back if convenient / in the area.
1-3/5 😮💨 - Running a F&B business is hard work. Unless a dining experience was truly unpleasant, we would refrain from posting a review.

Lovely sandwiches by Hello Arrigato. Really enjoy the beef steak sandwich. The pork katsu sandos (sandwich) is absolutely delicious.
Ebi Sando ($20) was surprisingly good with the combination of textures. (Prawn patty seemed a little too much like a fishcake, but my family liked it!). Tamago Sando ($14) had three different types of egg. Also had the Tater Tots addon ($5). Salted Choco Pecan Cookie ($5.50) was hefty and yummy, though more crumbly than chewy. Service is friendly!
Visited on a weekday afternoon for lunch.
I tried their ebi sandos, spam and egg sandos (this is a secret menu item which you could ask the staff about), hello twister fries and iced matcha latte for a total of $63. The ebi sandos is good, but it tasted too much like the McDonald's filet o'fish and I was not the most impressed. Similarly, the spam and egg sandos tastes very much like something that could be easily whipped up at home and it did not blow my mind away. The twister fries offers a unique twist to your usual fries albeit a tad bit too salty. Matcha latte was very average as well.
I would also like to commend one of the staff for being so attentive to our needs! He realised that we were freezing as we were seated right underneath the air con, and offered to move us to a better position. He also offered us serving plates without us asking for them upon realising that we were struggling to consume the plate of fries without dropping it on the table. Thank you so much for the kind service :)
Overall, while the food here is pretty decent, the price is not the friendliest to my wallet and I do not foresee visiting this place any time soon.
The HCG Chicken Sandwich (HCG Sando) is amazing. Juicy chicken with the complex taste of shrimp paste. I couldn't keep saying WOW with every bite.
The Beef Sandwich (Gyu Sando) was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT though, one of their main featured dish, yet the beef cut had a lot of fibers and was basically impossible to bite through... we've to use a fork and knife to cut them to bite size before being able to consume them.
The service and atmosphere were really good. Free table top water! But do give their coffee/match a try!
An enjoyable breakfast outing with family members. Ordered the wagyu, pork katsu, and ebi sando. Loved all three, especially the pork katsu with the fat rendering.
Had lunch there on a Sunday afternoon. The eatery was crowded but the wait was orderly and relatively short due to the effective system they employ via phone notification. The decor was simple but the air conditioning was great on a scorching day. Ordered an iced white coffee, the Spring salad and the Ebi Sando. The food came up to $40+. The quality was acceptable but I find it a bit steep for a sandwich and some greens. Perhaps it’s just me, but the sandwich was a messy affair to handle (the filling oozes out with every bite 😆 and thankfully they wrapped it well with waxed paper). The service staff was efficient and patient.
Over rated af. The gyu sando is really mid standing at $28, it really isn’t worth it. Could barely taste the beef with the caramelised onions overpowering it. Tater tots were better with the interesting dip.
A new addition to the busy Job Chiat is Hello Arigato, known for their Japanese Milk Bread Sandos. Small cozy space but not recommended for big group of more then five.
Tried the Joo Chiat outlet exclusive is the HCG Sando ($15) with succulent chicken and obvious but not overpowering prawn-paste flavour.
Then there’s classic Tamago Sando ($14). Sandwich between the Japanese milk bread is the creamy Japanese Egg Mayo, tamagoyaki and an enticing flowy Ajitama egg.
Cold brew tea was ok, but not wow.
Check out ig: @oyinshii
Pretty clean and spacious place with nice coffee and pastries. Tried their white coffee - good serving size with good aroma. Also tried their sticky bun - nice! But maybe too jelat for 1 pax to finish fully. Hoping to come back to try their gyu sando too!
Staff was extremely welcoming and friendly and was v accomodating when we request to switch seats to accomodate an incoming friend.
Seats near the door was slightly hot esp in the afternoon with not much aircon/ air flow, if possible do consider adding a portable aircon
Came here for to hide out from the sun. Ordered a rose soda, curry fries, & strawbarry croissant. The 🍓 crossiant is flacky & they are very generous with their wipecream & 🍓s! It super delicious i reccomend it alot there was also a 🍫croissant but it doesnt look appealing compared to the 🍓 one. Staff was very sweet & friendly. They all greated us with a big smiles & are very willing to help when we had enquiries. Overall great place to chill with friends & family👍🏻
Cool little cafe in Joo Chiat. This is the 2nd location so had high expectations.
Service staff was very prompt in seating us with no reservation.
Ordered a couple of sandos and coffee and iced drinks.
The sandos are large. Really a meal in themselves without sides needed. All well balanced and chilled.
The coffee was very good here also.
Passed by a few times, finally got to try it. Wasn't really happy about the small seat by the door as everytime someone opened it, a hot gust of wind greeted us.
However it was super chill sipping drinks and watching passersby come and go. Tokyo corn was delicious albeit hard to eat with fork and knifes. The Gyu Sando did not dissapoint. Juicy beef huged by soft toasted bread, would had ordered another serving if I had space for it.
Overall, a nice quint little place serving up comfort food. Would recommend it anytime as a afternoon chill 👍
Staff recommended the katsu curry sando. Not bad, hard to go wrong with anything fried stuffed between bread. Credit goes to the condiments that elevated the sandwich. Tasted very much like katsu curry don.
We made a reservation on a sat afternoon and didn't have to wait. Those who came by, either chose to leave their contact details or left for somewhere else. Staff reminded us of our dining time politely. Place can get quite noisy when everyone is trying to speak over each other.
The Ebi Sando (outlet exclusive) was good - patty was thick and paired well with the tar tar sauce & tobiko mayo! The Sakura Ebi Udon was flavourful but got jelat after a while (good for sharing tho). The place is a bit small so it gets quite echoey and noisy. Service was good and staff were friendly. Reservation was also easy to make online.
Love love the Tamago Sando with Ajitama egg! Slurp slurp the tot of the egg oozing in my mouth! The service was awesome too! Everything is good except the waiting time thou! Queued for 30 mins under the hot sun b4 a seat was given;) but the food was worth the wait…
Ordered the Ebi Sando, Kani Udon, Sticky Mate and Cold Matcha Latte - enjoyed everything. Ebi Sando was a bigger portion than expected. Love how soft the bread and finely shredded the lettuce are. There was a generous helping of crab meat and corn on the Kani Udon; daughter finished the whole bowl so I take it that it was delicious. ;)
Cafe ran out of Hokkaido Milk Gelato (which they informed during time of order), so they replaced it with Cendol Gelato, which was super good. It paired really well with the Sticky Bun. Portion was also generous; best for sharing.
Service was excellent and staff attentive. When my kiddo dropped a utensil and paper napkin, they replaced them without being prompted. Upon serving the Sticky Mate, the staff noticed we only had one fork and offered to get us another.
We enjoyed the the dining experience at Hello Arigato and will definitely be going back again. Please keep up the good work!
Had the HCG sando. It was surprising good. Lychee rose drink was OK. Would probably come back again to try their other food. Place a bit small and can be quite noisy. Staff were friendly and attentive.
Tried the ebi sando, mushroom udon, signature twister fries (it was normal) and hot mocha. Taste good, price is on the steep side. Good atmosphere.
Had the egg sando and tofu sando. Egg sando exhibited sophisticated flavours and the marinated Tamago elevated the whole experience. Personally, the tofu sando could do with a bit more seasoning, but others might like bring able to taste the subtle fragrance of the delicate tofu. Coffee was well extracted, opt for a double shot.
Recommend to reserved before your visit. Seat is limited. Food choice is limited. But food quality is good. Serving portion is small, similar to cafe portion. Meant for enjoyment, not for basic stomach need. Gyu Sandro is good btw =)
The Sando's never disappoint, even if a tad pricey. However, the mushroom pasta was overly salty. Coffee is good.
Simple sandwiches and reasonable prices. Just book ahead on weekends. Tasty and not too sauced up!
Interior deco can be improved. It looks too simple. Aircon fancoil on wall looks yellow… 2nd hand? Sando was nice and seem more suitable for brunch rather than a light breakfast. Scan QR for menu.
Trying out the Wagyu sando after having it at Natsu a week ago. Both good but if I had to choose, I would go to Natsu
Great food and awesome service. Prices feel a little steep but it’s a nice treat once in a while. Would appreciate if they offered gift cards to buy for others. Excited to return, thank you
The wangu beef shado is delicious they even got curly fries. But they require service charge, and it's kinda semi self service.. it can't justify the service charge.
HCG sando was awesome, twister fries nacho cheese and japanese curry sauce was delicious and sticky buns are really good
Quiet little place in the heart of Joo Chiat, near to the main road too. The food came quickly and it was really delicious. I had the spam & eggs Sando and it was a really delicious simple meal. The Momo Orange was really refreshing and sweet. My friends and I had the curly fries and fried chicken and it was really good. Will definitely drop by here again when I can to relax and have some good food.
Ordered the ebi sando during our visit and it was great! The staffs were friendly too. We had a great time, thank you!
Egg to bread ratio is off , too much egg too little bread end up u get leftover egg without bread perhaps can put lesser egg so there wont be an excess egg leftover
What a lovely addition to the Joo Chiat coffee and food scene.
The space is lovely. Lot of options for baked goods. Excellent food options - both vegetarian and non vegetarian. Absolutely loved the tofu sando!
Great place for a sit in or take away. Staff are lovely. Service is excellent - although they forgot to pack in certain objects it was a quick fuss free correction.
Be prepared to wait if you haven't made a reservation. Great spot!
The staff are very nice, the black coffee was ok ($4), the cookies were big and yummy ($5.5). You can get quite full from eating one cookie. I ordered crinkle fries that is also quite decent portion ($14).
Walked in without a reservation for lunch on Friday and was able to get a table for 2 immediately. I had wagyu sando which was great while my sis had the tamago sando which she enjoyed but said became abit too jelat after awhile. We also shared the tater tots which we both enjoyed! Overall, the food was served promptly and pricing wise, it was typical of most cafes. Would be keen to come back again to try their other items at dinner!
Don’t think we would be going back to Hello Arigato. We met as a girls group in the morning. The place was reasonably empty but we were told that we have the table for only 90 mins. Okkk - we said we would leave if there was someone for the table. We expected some big of flexibility and understanding. That was a mistake. We were reminded 15 mins before our time and then asked to leave at the end of 90 mins. At that point there were two tables occupied in the restaurant. Just two! We thought it was pretty ridiculous to ask a group of four women to leave in anticipation for walk-in customers on a Tuesday morning. When we walked past the restaurant again after about 45 mins, the place was still empty!
The food was lacking flavor and for the price we paid, it makes no sense to be back. There’s no dearth of good food and warm service in Joo Chiat. Take your business elsewhere.
Very good coffee. Sandwiches did not disappoint
Good service, servers were polite. I hope they will replace the cold soba with my fav tomyum somen...the soba noodles were a little tough but the cold broth was refreshing. Quiet, nice place to hangout. Hope to see more props in the future like the cosy Upper Thomson outlet:)
Second visit and service was great as usual! Appreciated the guy in charge of reservations/wait-list coming out to the people queuing outside to remind us to scan the QR code to be put on wait-list (coz ya know, there will always be sotongs like me who just join the queue wo checking if there's an online wait-list to join)
He later very kindly allowed me to get another party of 4 to join me coz of a no-show (lucky us!), and helped to rearrange the tables and chairs so we could all sit together. And I didn't even request to sit together actually. Truly appreciate such thoughtfulness and proactiveness! ❤️👍🏻
P.s. Sticky bun is da bomb!
Nice Gyu and Tamago sandwiches and super heavy cookies that's like the weight of 3 cookies in 1! (But I still prefer two men bagel)
Ordered flat white coffee, nice!
Very cozy and staff are very nice.
Yummmm
Worth trying
Service was quick n efficient
Place is clean n aesthetic
Food is great
Really love the Tamago Sando! The tater tots are perfect!
Average
Great coffee, cool design, delicious bread. But the signature dessert (an ice cream sandwich) remained unclear to me. The bun is delicious, the ice cream is delicious, but they don’t stick together
We ordered the most expensive beef sandwich, the curry fries recommended by the clerk, as well as beer and liquor as snacks before the dinner in the evening. There was already a queue ten minutes before the store opened in the evening. So I'm looking forward to it.
But to be honest, the sandwich didn't impress me too much. It's not delicious, but I think it's overly praised for causing queues.
The same goes for French fries... which is about as good as the finished product from a fast food restaurant, fried and topped with sauce. But the store staff is friendly and the space is comfortable. I give it four stars, but wouldn't particularly visit the store again.
