Reviews of May's Kafe (Beauty World)
Alright, folks, listen up! Donkey and I were on a cycling trip to Albert Complex for a movie at the Eagle Cineplex, and with a hot afternoon approaching, we decided to skip the hawker centers and head to Beauty World for a quick bite. Donkey remembered a delicious coffee from a previous visit to Beauty World, so he was eager to revisit May's Kafe.
The Good:
• The Coffee: The coffee, however, lived up to Donkey's memory! It still had that incredible fragrance he remembers from two years ago.
• The Atmosphere: May's Kafe has a lively atmosphere, and it's nice to sit in the open at Basement 1.
The Quirks:
• The Food: We found a table, and Donkey ordered the Mee Rebus while I tried the Mee Siam, which is their recommended dish. The Mee Rebus was acceptable, but I felt that the Mee Siam was a bit lacking compared to other Mee Siams I had before. We also couldn't resist adding a chee cheong fun and an Orh kueh to our order. I told Donkey that I really enjoyed them on my last visit, but this time, I felt the quality had dropped a bit.
• The Tea: The tea, unfortunately, was a bit lacking in flavor.
• The Service: There's no table service, so after ordering, you have to collect your food and return your tray yourself.
Donkey’s Note: I loved the coffee! It was so good!
My Note: I was hoping for a more flavorful Mee Siam, but the coffee was still amazing!
Rating:
• Food: 3/5 (Some dishes were underwhelming, but others were good)
• Service: 3.5/5 (No table service, but efficient)
• Atmosphere: 4/5 (Lively and bustling)
Overall: 3.5/5
Overall: While some dishes were a bit underwhelming, May's Kafe is still a good option for a quick and affordable meal. Their coffee, especially, is a real highlight.
Was the curry chicken rice diluted? Yes. Was there flavour? Yeah. But the diluted down curry was not allowing the flavours to come through.
For $6, you could definitely get a better curry rice from Toast Box / fun toast etc. however Was the 1 star from other customers necessary? No.
The employees were doing their best, it’s crowded and they kept their smile and service. They pushed through the busy orders. It’s not a terrible place to be, but I would say they could do better on their food.
Their soft boiled eggs are beautiful. My hubby is not a mee siam person. But he come here for the meesiam. Got the childhood taste. Their laksa is good too! Bread is nice. Comfortable environment to have breakfast.
Good place to grab a drink or a meal. Usually there is a queue and getting a table can be a challenge during weekend. Waiting time can be between 5 to 15 mins. Prices are similar to other places. Love their nasi lemak and bulgogi chicken rice.
Read a fair bit of this cafe from Google map reviews so decided to try it for myself. Could get very crowed during the peak, so best avoid those times. The peak is also where the kitchenette gets a bit crazy with the serving crew mixing up orders, creating a bottleneck. Still overall food quality is not too bad. I ate the abalone laksa which has heaps of ingredients like fish balls, fishcakes and tau pols plus 1 mini abalone. A bit pricy at $10 a bowl but the coconut curry taste is quite lemak. The teh and kopi are decent. 3.5 stars
Decent homecooked food, great tea and coffee. Comfortable and dependable cage serving local fare. We had the nasi lemak and dry mee siam, both were quite good.
This is a cafe that makes peanut thick toasts far better than Ah Kun or Toastbox. Coffee is rich and aromatic, simple set up better than commercial standardized look of the regular brands which is boring. One more suggestion to owner- please order some vegeterian/ meatless option for your customers, thanks 🙏
Located at B1 of Beauty World Centre, there were ample seats available and was pretty crowded. Serves are wide varieties of local "breakfast" food. The traditional kaya butterbtoast were pretty good , not so for the french toast. What's disappointing was the coffee and tea which was quite average at best. Would rate it 4 star if not for the average hot beverage.
Lots of dishes, prata is nice and crispy. Very crowded on weekend mornings with families waiting for children’s enrichment classes to end. Laksa chee cheong fun looks interesting.
The fishball noodle that I had was very good the noodles had a nice texture and the fishball was just tasting like itoyori fish
Bread is nicely toasted. The kaya used is nice and thick but too sweet. Right amount of butter is used.
Teh peng taste like it has reduced sugar as well. Keeping it healthy i guess?
Soft boiled eggs are perfect!
Total cost: $4.80
Traveled here for my comfort food. This round I ate the Laksa and Bee Hoon instead of my usual roti prata. Laksa was thick and spicy for anyone who wants a boost in the morning . Bee Hoon is so-so . Will come back again because of the nostalgic atmosphere it has. Not sure how the millenniums will like this place.
First time here and I can’t wait to be back already! Mee Siam was tasty, good portion. Kopi has that nostalgic old school taste. I saw that they have kopi gu yu (kopi with butter), my childhood drink! Will definitely try that on my next visit.
It’s a small indoor coffee shop with limited seats. Lunchtime gets rather busy.
A quick bite to eat at tea time, with a variety of local delicacies to choose from. I love their hot barley drink with lemon!
Kaya toast crunchy and delicious when it's freshly made, has a generous slab of butter within - though not consistently sized across all the toasts but good enough for me! Eggs are large, delicious and just right for half boiled!
This place is always crowded with locals on weekends whenever when we come to Beauty World. It serves the usual breakfast such as toast, nasi lemak, laksa, mee rebus, prata, etc with affordable price. The place is nice for chit chat with friends. Coffee is good.
Good local breakfast choices like toast, chee chong fan, mee siam, laksa, etc. Located conveniently at B1 Beauty World Shopping Centre.
Always love the food at May’s Cafe! A humble place for your traditional meals. I particularly recommend the mentaiko chicken floss toast! I will ALWAYS order it. They have an outlet near Bugis/Rochor too!
The prices are extremely reasonable as well. Do support local! ❤️🍞
This is a busy shop right at the basement of beauty world. Decided to give it a try but felt that it was okay only considering the prices and options available in the area.
The coffee was ok, but not as fragrant so i was slightly disappointed
A good place to have a quick or full meal. Just that the queue during peak hours is insane and their hygiene could be improved
Love the food. Affordable and tastes great! Good for brunch and chit chats over coffee.
Review for kopi only. Average taste for small cup at $1.70. Expected better.
Laksa is super good! Better than Katong Laksa. Coffee is decent.
A decent cafe. But queue is always long & usually crowded. Not an ideal place to sit to work, but enough to just eat and leave. It is usually noisy too - due to the crowd.
The food is amazing at May’s Kafe. We had a delicious feast for our teachers day. We highly recommend! Our staff chose different food from the menu. Each food tasted awesome!! They had vast variety for us to choose. It caters to adults & kids. Must try!!!
Come and try.. 👍

Toast bread 🍞 and eggs 🥚 are good. Perfectly done and crisp! The only thing is the "Teh C" still got room for improvement..as it's after taste is a tiny bit sour, else I would give a 5 stars. Anyway highly recommend to try! ☺️
Always a great place for coffee and toast. Wish they could replace melamine spoons with metal or ceramic ones. Melamine spoons just doesn't go well with very hot drinks. Also the aunties taking.orders can be very impatient, maybe they can be more chill and not so stressed up.
We have always wanted to try this place out as it seems to be quite popular. It was a disappointing experience. Prata ia obviously Frozen prata from the supermarkets, with bland curry. $4.50 laksa with no cockles. What??!! Kaya toast was okay, eggs were too runny. The only saving grace is chee Cheong fun was quite nice. Teh was bland, kopi was alright.
My favourite dish is the Dry Mee Siam, and they have some other interesting dishes too like Laksa Chee Cheong Fun, etc. Clean and pleasant, despite being located in the air-well of the mall. They've just renovated, so should be quite comfortable, tho spartan.
The cafe has a wide variety of snack foods such as toast, roti prata, chee cheong fun and some local meal foods like nasi lemak and laksa at a reasonable price and quite delicious. Most of the customers are people waiting for their children to finish their enrichment classes.
Mee Siam was oily n too salty.
Lack sourness n peanut taste in the gravy, and was luke warm.
Coffee was ok.
Used ShopBack voucher. Will pass.
Nicer coffee compared to ah kunn
Daily fix after hiking
friendly staff, service good, choice of variety is limited due to limited seats even though there are more seating space behind another unit ,.. overall quite happy with their food
Food ok. Prices reasonable. Lady clearing the table rather loud and rude. Don't mind eating there again but will try to avoid that lady.
You must order their prata or laksa Chee Chong Fun. If not you cannot declare you been there. Coffee is exceptionally thick as well.
Pretty crowded on weekends as it's a pretty nice hangout place and food is quite good. A good air-con alternative after food at the hawker center on the top floor.
Coffee not bad. Toast also
Kaya toast is well toasted. Crispy like biscuit. Otah thick toast is one of the best that I’ve had. But always crowded though.
Lots of variety, reasonably priced and nice.
Simple meal and satisfying 😌
Good place to having coffee with family and friends. Nice food n reasonable price. But must have patient to wait for sit.
They served very nice prata with their very own chicken curry. Sell a variety of food and drinks at acceptable price.
It is my 2nd visits. I think it is one of best place for Butter Kaya toast~ kopi also very good~. Will come again to eat others~
nice toast and half boiled egg! so much better than yakun with reasonable price, mentaiko chicken floss toast is a must try!
Service is good. Food is great too. They see us with kid. Bring us the food.
Slightly pricier but menu all 👍🏼 try anything also 🥇
Reasonably priced coffee tea and toast. Quality of food and drinks is good!
Very reasonable and honest restaurant.... Food serving is speedy, too... Food is nice and tasty..
Good place for a sip of coffee, a bite of snacks or meal. nice coffee, good food.
Variety of options at reasonable price. Quite convenient to access also. Like to come here for a quick bite.
Delicious and always busy. Hard to find a seat at times
Nice prata and the curry
toast set is good and cheese prata
Nice place for quick breakfast, bit crowded in the weekends
Everything is quite good except for the coffee.
A busy cafe but with nice coffee and snacks.
Nice, simple coffee and toast done right.
Good cafe at basement with wide variety of options
Nice hangout place at the mall. Air cond !!
Good coffee at good price
Kopi gu you is a thing!
Better than yakun
Nice food and affordable
Nice
It's always crowded and crowded during meal times.
If it's too hot to eat at the hawker center, it's okay to eat here.
Nasi Lemak is more expensive than other places, but the taste is just okay.
Fishball noodles are okay
Laksa is delicious👍🏼
Among Singapore's local snack stores, it has its own history. Kaya toast and laksa are excellent
