Reviews of PIPES by HATTENDO
Fantastic dining experience here!!! I love the great music, ambience, the most AMAZING Sando I’ve ever had. The staff is extremely attentive to details, happy to serve and fast in action. The ice breads are great too, I love the matcha and vanilla flavors. The iced latte is of high quality too. Overall it is an amazing brunch session, I would recommend it to anyone!
OMG, I think I’ve found my new obsession. 😍
The Iberico Tonkatsu Sando at PIPES by HATTENDO is seriously next-level stuff.
First off, they use Iberico pork, which—apparently—is the *best* pork in the world. I thought it was all hype, but once I took a bite, I got it. They fry this pork to absolute crispy perfection, but somehow it’s still INSANELY juicy and tender inside with the oh so delicious fats!!!!!!
Like, how do they even manage that?! 🤯 The contrast between the crispy outside and the melt-in-your-mouth inside... WOW. It's honestly a game-changer. You can tell they put some serious love into making this.
Now, let’s talk about the sauce because OMG, that sauce!! It’s kinda sweet, kinda tangy, and just totally perfect. You know how sometimes you bite into a sandwich and everything’s just meh? Yeah, NOT this time. The sauce really pulls everything together, and they even add some fresh veggies for crunch—adds a nice texture but let’s be real, the pork is the star here.
And the BREAD. Y’all, the bread deserves a whole section on its own! They use their famous Syokupan made with rich Echire butter—yes, THAT fancy French butter—and it’s SO soft and pillowy, almost like biting into a cloud. No joke, the bread could be a dish on its own, but when you put that fried Iberico tonkatsu between those two slices? Perfection.
I know what you’re thinking... it’s kinda pricey, right? But honestly, once you take that first bite, you won’t even care. It’s one of those things where you just KNOW the quality is next level, and you’ll happily pay for it. You can really taste the premium ingredients, from the pork to the butter in the bread. This is not your average sando—it's a whole experience.
I’m already thinking about when I can go back! 😂
Happy belly. The sandos were perfectly made, super yummy, the bread soft and fluffy. Ordered the egg and potato salad sando and a Korean pork (limited season menu) as well as a cappucino and drip black coffee. Sandos, in general, aren’t the most pocket friendly meal but they are generous with the filling and I think it’s quite good value when comparing it with other sando places in SG. The location is perhaps a bit outta way which makes this place a little under the radar. Which is great! Less crowd, less noise and you get to actually carry out a conversation. The cappucino had a real kick and is less milky than most places. I enjoyed the intensity. Overall, an enjoyable Saturday brunch.
Tried red bean Bun, very soft and not very sweet, love it! The bean paste taste like ice cream- smooth and flavorful. Highly recommend it with coffee. There are a few filter coffee options here.
Sandwiches is recommended too- juicy and balance of taste, good for sharing.
Overall it’s relaxing and with a table next to window, it feels like being in Japan.
Ordered the Iberico Pulled Pork sando and loved it! The meat was well marinated and bursting full of flavour. It was slightly messy to eat but I guess all sandos are. I would recommend to share half with a friend and get a different flavour to share as well.
Food was good. A little pricey. Fair portioned. Wagyu was the highlight for me. Service was great. Possible to walk in on a Thursday night but reservations recommended. Ambiance is casual and suitable for some catching up albeit the background music may be a tad loud. Parking is hard to find by the road side so easier to just park at the Pinnacles. Beer and sake choices are quite limited. Everything has a certain level of quality to it.
Pretty looking food. Waitress was friendly and patient to recommend bestsellers and her personal favourite. Ordered the iberico katsusando and Nitamago Potato Salad sando. Large serving size so it was good for sharing esp if you have a smaller appetite. My kiddos didn't really fancy sandwiches so they had the truffle fries. Dip was awesome!
We tried the cafe latte and matcha latte. I preferred matcha latte more:) price was a little tad on the high side. $60++ for 2 sando, 2 drinks and 1 side
Nearest carpark: Teo Hong Road Public Car Park on Google maps or parallel parking along teo hong road
Remember to pay for parking on app as the parking attendant does come to check!!
Very good sandos here! Iberico pork is lightly breaded and oh so juicy. Tamago with potato salad is excellent as well - not too heavy with perfectly cooked eggs. The service staff is also attentive, fast and genuinely warm.
I docked one star because the featured dessert, the cream buns were soggy and the texture was unpleasantly mushy. A little odd haha but otherwise this place is great! Love that they take reservations too :)
Pipes by Hattendo serves really nice sando and coffee. Their Sando is paired with handmade sudokupan (very soft and airy), Echire butter, and thick slab of Otah/Iberico katsu. Pipes uses very good quality of ingredients and value for money. Pipes serve different types of coffee bean and you can choose your choice based on your liking. I love their cappuccino milk foam as it is smooth and dense. One of my favourite cafe to pick up a cup of cappuccino to go.

To note:
1. To avoid disappointment, it will be better to make reservations in advance.
2. You may ask their staff for paper bag to pack your Sando if you can’t finish it.
3. Be prepared to wait if you order Sando.
4. The place may smells a bit oily from the food preparation.
Decided to visit after seeing a friend's Instagram Story post and it was best decision ever! The coffee is really great (you can choose between the available beans choice or get the staff to recommend) and they have very delicious sandwich. I ordered the tamago truffle mash sandwich and fried oyster to share with my fiance and i had never ate sandwich so happily before in my life 🤣🤣🤣 highly recommend to check this place out. Also better to make reservation before coming in as the place has a good crowd!
The restaurant was very cozy with fantastic service. I ordered the tuna bowl and yakionigiri. The restaurant surprisingly specialised in both their dessert and Japanese cuisine. The restaurant staff were also extremely friendly and helpful in recommending the selections. I really enjoyed dining there and would definitely recommend them to my friends and visit them again.
Conveniently located outside Exit H of Outram Park MRT, PIPES by HATTENDO has a cosy ambience and is ideal for a date. Their yuzu panna cotta ($5) was my favourite, the yuzu jelly burst in your mouth with a citrusy taste and pairs well with the panna cotta. Personally, I even liked the yuzu jelly more than the panna cotta! The cream buns ($12.50 for 5) came in 5 flavours: custard, whipped cream, chocolate, azuki and matcha. The bread is so soft that it peels easily, and the ooze of cream is really refreshing, especially when refrigerated. Personally, I would prefer if the chocolate and azuki was stronger. We also tried the amaou cream bun ($4) because of the cute strawberry packaging! It was filled with cream and strawberry jam, which went together really well. The matcha latte tastes authentic and not too bitter, and is perfect after dessert. The honey toast with soft serve is great too - the sweetness of the honey complements the savoury butter of the toast, and the ice cream is particularly refreshing to have with the warm toast. We were also pleasantly surprised when they did not charge us GST and service charge. Reccommend this place! :)
[Jul 2023] Wide variety of simple, comforting sandos and premium cream buns are served here, catering to different tastebuds. The portions are generous, meat and seafood are fresh and chunky. The bread used in the sando are fluffy and lightly buttered and toasted. Our preference: garlic prawn > iberico katsu > wagyu beef.
Ending off the meal here with their cold cream bun and bold coffee is mandatory. The chocolate cream bun that we got was fluffy and moist, with heavenly chocolate cream encased within. It comes petite, which gives your stomach space to try more flavours 😊
Service was fast and friendly.
Highly recommend this place for bread lovers!
I personally really loved the Honey Toast with Soft Serve ($24) — exterior was nice and crispy, but the inside of the toast was sweet and fluffy. The soft serve itself tasted like ✨quality✨ milk ice cream and it paired really well with the toast. The other dishes we had were the Hiroshima Oysters (both fresh oysters $5 and baked ones $7-8), the Tonkatsu Sando ($20) and Gyu Katsu Sando ($24) and the Salmon Ikura Tamago Ricebowl ($16). I went with a group of 4 and we shared all the dishes! Doesn’t seem like a lot, but the dessert on its own is already a main dish so we left feeling very satisfied :) Will come back for the toast!
Came on a Saturday afternoon.
Made a reservation prior to coming so we managed to get a table.
We ordered the Iberico Tonkatsu sandwich & Nitamago Sandwich.
Do note that one order comes with 2 huge sandwiches so do share if you don't have a big appetite. (Most won't be able to finish it)
The egg sandwich was rich and creamy.
Perfectly cooked egg and the mayo had some truffle oil.
The Iberico pork took a while longer to arrive but it was worth the wait.
It was fatty and tender.
It's a bit too big to bite so I had to finish the vegs first before eating the sandwich.
Would recommend you try both if you drop by!
Cafe during the day and bar in the evening, Pipes by Hattendo serves up really nice sando and coffee for weekend brunch. The ajitsuke nitamago is paired with handmade syokupan, Echire butter, homemade potato salad and truffle oil. Super good! 🥪
We have come here a few times for coffee take outs. The coffee is amazing, whether latte or mocha and the ambience is really cozy given the contrast with the busy central business district just outside.
We also had the beef sando which was juicy and tender! Good stuff!
However, the waiting time is quite a while even when the place is less than a third full. Nonetheless, the wifey says it’s worth the wait!
I enjoyed their tonkatsu sando. Latte is too bitter for my liking.
Recently tried their online coffee beans and had unfortunately misunderstood their roast profiles options for the beans. For benefit of ignorant coffee consumers like myself, I could not find info on their website about the roast lingo. Hence, erraneously Google searched and was misinformed that Full City roast is a medium or at most medium dark roast. Turned out to be DARK roast according to their in-house expert. It is too bitter and sadly I felt so wasted on the microlot bean selections I bought a big bulk of. The high roast beans looks okay, thankfully..
Please check out the info pointed out to me after I feedback. It is not on their main page: https://hattendo.oddle.me/en_SG?productId=8a818f4b7114e0cf017115a4042479a7
See beans on the left in the pic for their full city roast
It was delicious. The best part seemed to be the bread. It is a pity that only two kinds of bread can be chosen. Maybe it'll be good to have more kinds of bread together with very good jam or olive oil.
The portion is satisfying, can’t eat anything after a sando
Love their potato egg sando! Everything was just perfect - the runny yolk, seasoning of the potato salad and the bread. The bread had the right amount of crisp and butter on them making it fluffy yet tasty. I’d just eat the bread on its own!
What I didn’t fancy was their cream puff. The filling was alright - light but sweet. The pastry however was too dense to my liking and felt that it could be improved. Felt like the cream was just stuff inside a normal bread.
Came here for the first time. Before coming I thought that their main items will be the cream/custard filled buns which I tried a couple of years ago in their Tanjong Pagar outlet. But I realised they focus more on coffee and thick toast sandwiches. The coffee, sandwiches and buns and are nice and the service is good too. Would love to come back to try more of their sandwiches.
The honey toast was PHENOMENAL 😍 literally the best I've ever had!! It's freshly toasted before being served so just imagine crispy toast soaked in butter and honey and topped with light milky ice cream. Must try if you're there! The salmon rice bowl was pretty good as well. Nice ambience and attentive service too!
Lovely dinner experience at PIPES, definitely recommend trying their Matcha Latte and their Aburi Wagyu beef with onsen egg dip. It's right next to Outram Park MRT and a short walk from DORSET and offers quite a bit of privacy. The dishes and drinks do fall abit on the pricey side but you pay for quality. We also tried the wagyu beef sando which was delicious, but unfortunately slightly overcooked. However, due to the quality of meat they were using, we probably wouldn't have noticed if my partner wasn't a huge wagyu fan. Overall, the place provides for a lovely ambience and a great cafe for hangouts or a quick meal.
Great food and coffee!
We had one of the signature roast beef don and Neba neba don (a mix of veg and salmon) which were both delicious but especially enjoyed the fried chicken that we ordered as a side dish - super soft chicken with great seasoning.
I also recommend their deserts! Starting with their famous cream puffs but really want to give a shout out to their pudding, it's a must try :)
Tamago Sando is so nice but could be quite heavy. Tuna and bacon sando is refreshing and surprisingly good! Huge portion of fries good to share for more than two pax. Get ready for food coma after this hearty lunch ;)
Overall great experience, would recommend. I might have had a poor experience day with one of the sandos. 😅
Food:
Ordered an oat milk iced latte, sencha, fries with truffle aioli, Hokkaido wagyu beef patty and Nitamago potato salad.
Would recommend all of the above except Nitamago potato salad. I don’t think this is for everyone, but it does look good.
The potato salad had too much mayo, which made me feel full quite quickly. Perhaps the potato salad I had for the particular day had more mayo than usual.
The sandos are generally filling, hence would recommend sharing first prior to ordering another one. The waygyu beef patty was a delight and the fries with the dip was good!
Drinks:
No complaints. Would come back for this!
Food is always on point, in terms of flavour, taste and texture. All time favourite egg sando never fails, tried the tuna & bacon and it was a refreshing twist for breakfast.
Excellent service by the food service staff. They were attentive, friendly and helpful. Had Nitamago Potato Salad Sando. Delicious as usual. Overall a relaxing lunch on a Saturday afternoon.
Very nice chill place with excellent food. Sashimi was very fresh! My girlfriend normally doesn't take tuna sashimi but this is one dish where she couldn't get enough of it!
Customer service was very pleasant and totally worth!
Never eaten here before, only had their cream buns before. Was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. Ordered the waygu beef burger. I would give it a 9/10. The buns had a light crisp on them. The beef was superbly soft and not too chewy and there's not much beefy smell which was great. The tamagoyaki added another level to the overall taste with its slight sweetness. Loved the combinations of the ingredients. The fries were however a little hard, probably over fried. Tried the red bean, matcha and custard buns so far. Only custard is really good. Matcha was lacking the matcha taste.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I feel that the service could be improved. I came in on a Thursday afternoon 12pm+. It was fairly empty and I asked for a table for one. And the waitress asked if it was lunch or dinner when its quite obvious I wanted to eat there at that moment. And then she proceeded to look inside frantically for a table for 1 when there were at least 3-4 empty tables. The 4-seater tables can only accommodate 2 people to my understanding due to the safe distancing measures. So it's practically the same if it's a table for 2 or table for 1, but she didn't seem to want to give me that table for 4 when it was so empty and there wasn't any queue. Don't think I would have received the same treatment if I came with one friend. I would say that she wasn't really great in terms of service and awareness and I was expecting better service from a higher end place like this.
had the nitamago sandwich and a couple drinks! bought buns as takeaway as well but changed my mind to dine in, lady kindly offered to keep my buns in the chiller. the syokupan was soooo good!! the bread itself alr had a natural sweetness, and was also well buttered n toasted. the eggs were sliiiightly too salty for me but my partner said it was just right, so down to personal taste. the potato salad was sadly a little plain and dry to me, but the mayo in the sandwich made up for it. i don't usually like cold sandwiches, so mayb next time ill try the hot ones to get better judgement. also got a light roasted mocha which tasted pretty good and smooth! the only downside is that everything was on the pricier side, but considering the quality i guess its worth it! service was also prompt and friendly
One of my favourite places to have Japanese sandos in Singapore!! The portions are large and I love how the sandos r non-oily. I’ve been here multiple times and will continue to come back :-)
Amazing atmosphere and food!
Everything was hands down delicious, the only thing i was disappointed was that we didn’t come earlier to try the Gyukatsu (which I heard great things about). Nonetheless, their truffle fries portion was very generous. My favourite dish has to be the salmon sashimi! It was super fresh and the wasabi that came along with it was of premium quality 👍🏼
Tried the Kake Gohan, truffle fries and matcha latte. Salmon in the Kake Gohan is very fresh and truffle fries were generous in portion. Love the service and ambience of the place. Will definitely come back again :)
Nice cosy spot with great-tasting food! The wagyu sliders are one of the best we had. The aburiya wagyu beef with onsen dip is a must try as well.
Sandos that are as good as it gets. Good portions and very yummy. Coffee is great too and they do their own on-site roasting.
Ordered the nitamago potato salad and mentaiko tamago sandos and they were so delicious! Bread was extremely buttery, flavour combinations were well-balanced and portions were really big. Definitely would come back!
Excellent coffee and sandwiches. I especially like the wagyu beef sandwich. They have a good variety of coffees and do roasting as well. Definitely worth a visit.
It was raining, and I wanted to find a place for shelter and discovered this place - a coffee place by Hattendo.
The roast beef Don; the thin beef slices and a poached egg was an excellent parring. Ordered a cup of latte which sets me back to Mars on my second sipped. Ended with a red bean bun as my dessert was the right judgement.
Go for it. It's worth it. I mean the shelter :) with good food and especially the coffee.
Cream puffs were not bad, coffee was disappointing. Staff was nice enough to temporarily refrigerate our takeaways but was likely understaffed for a Sunday brunch crowd.
Would come back to try their sandos
Always order delivery from them as I don't like to go there because of the wait for tables during the weekend. I've tried a number of their Sandos. My favourite is the pork iberico and the garlic prawns. The sando always arrives warm and the iberico pork is thick and juicy! Might try the otah one another time. The truffle potato salad is good but a bit jelat. The last time I ordered the wagyu sando, it was a bit dry. Otherwise, the bread is very soft and fluffy and buttered enough to be tasty on its own. Price is on the high side
“God”-tier food! Their sandos have lots of creative flavours, and are toasted to perfection with that slight buttery crust. Special shoutout to the Tuna Bacon & Potato Tamago sando 🤤
The Sandos is so yummy and looks exactly like the one in the picture. It’s so nice that I can have it every day.
Great service too. Definitely gonna be back
Really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere here at Hattendo last weekend with a friend. We loved the cream buns and honey toast, and highly recommend going!
Sando tonkatsu delicious! Big sandwich, you can share with others!! Staff very friendly and helpful! Shop less table, if busy need to waiting..
tried their hokkaido scallops sando. overall taste was good n the bread was pillowy soft. BUT i could neither see nor taste any scallops. price on the high side, but the meal kept me full for a few hrs.
Had tonkatsu sando as well as a iced matcha latte. Food is amazing and the tonkatsu is thick and juicy. Great ambience to hang out with attentive staffs.
Great location, quality delicious sandos and pudding, attentive service, lovely atmosphere... definitely a superb spot anytime of the day.
Got there around Wednesday 1pm, quite crowded (recommend to book if going during peak hours). Really major love the Sandos, take note the tonkatsu requires about 20 to 30 mins wait. Other Sandos might be out faster. Cream puff is nice and not overly sweet.
I really enjoyed the moriawase - sashimi platter. Super fresh, super delicious, and totally worth the price. Especially tasty and authentic wasabi too! Would definitely come back here
Tasty sandos! But slightly on the pricier side. Ambience is pretty good but it gets quite crowded at peak hours. Good music too!
Small place with big portions, particularly the Iberico Tonkatsu and the Fries with Truffle portion is huge.
Highly recommend their Tonkotsu toast and wagyu beef with onsen dip. Service crew were really friendly and attentive. Had a great time here!
It was exciting, at first. Hattendo had been one of my well-liked brand. The sando are pretty good and the availability of the cream puffs in the same location is exciting. But the menu is limited and there's only so much sando we can eat.
Definitely worth a try, for sure.
Please be careful when you order 180ml sake for delivery. You will get a 180ml sake in a plastic cup which looks not very appealing.
Other than that, all the items are nice and service is good.
Came by with my friend to have an early happy hour! Had always wanted to visit PIPES but CB struck! Since it was tea time, my friend decided to order the Hokkaido soft serve and some cream buns to share. I got the Z1 sake which is a nice, easy to drink sake. We later decided to order some truffle fries and it came in a huge bowl! Nice edgy industrial interior made it a pleasure to sit there for some time. Service was warm and efficient without being intrusive. Food was good and prices right! Saw some huge burgers floating by to other tables! Will definitely come back to try their izakaya menu and their other premium sakes! Oh yes, their Sapporo pints are 2 for $20 from 5pm onwards!
The cream puffs are good! Custard is their best selling flavour!
Very impressive first bite but a bit fatty towards 2nd half. Suggest to share
Here at 5 and as expected they ran out of the Hattendo puffs
Hope their coffee is good … meh
service and food and cream buns were so good. Definitely recommend coming here 😍
Chanced on this Japanese Cafe
Spacious with High Ceiling
Dislike to Scan QR to see Menu
Wagyu beef was was burnt(bitter). Lemon cream puff was good, matcha and plain cream puff bun was quite plain. Food took quite long to come (around 20mins)
Suggest to remove the high chair at the side if you don't want customers to sit there instead of telling them they shouldn't be sitting there.
Decent food at an affordable price, extremely attentive service by manager Adrian. The kids really enjoy themselves! Will definitely be back to try the burger. Love the calamari and truffle fries.
Great matcha buns. Sapporo on tap. Reasonably priced Japanese cafe food menu that I’m excited to try in the future. They serve chutoro from kuro maguro here in a nice setting too!
Yummy Oysters! And Honey Toast!
Great service. Nitamago was 👌 chill vibes
A great place for chatting and have a ice coffee!
Great service!
I ordered a wagyu custom burger for about $27. Tasty.
Couldn finish it, so request to change to takeaway. the server was friendly and accepted the request with grace.
generally recommended.
A very delicious Japanese sandwich, it is the most dazzling oasis in the sandwich desert of Singapore. The signature Spanish Iberico pork chop sandwich is evenly oiled like Matsusaka beef, and the hot spring egg sandwich is also highly recommended for its full egg flavor. There are many kinds of coffee to choose from, and there are also many alcoholic drinks. If you want to drink alcohol early in the morning, this is the right place!
The pork chop is delicious, not too hard, fried and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Lemongrass chicken is also good
The price is not cheap, you can try it out
They also sell their own roasted coffee on site.
Iberico Katsusando -$22.00
Although the price is a bit expensive, the ingredients are sufficient and the taste is on the heavy side.
It will feel a little greasy after eating, but overall it’s pretty good~
Dashimaki Mentai Tamago-$14.00
Although it looks ordinary, in terms of taste, I personally think it has a richer flavor than Iberico Katsusando~
The food is good, the environment is great, and the waiters are also very friendly~ A store worth checking out~ ✌️✌️✌️
Well known trusted brand in Japan. Hattendo provide unique but deliciousest cream buns and other sweets. I was one of fan.
Here at PIPES, you can find finest Japanese dishes and creamy big OYSTER🦪 which is definitely No.1 quality (and cost performance🤩) in Singapore. Every time I visit, there are great discoveries. Also the atmosphere is cozy, love their specialty coffee☕️ I'm subscribing it thru their website.
Hattendo Singapore will exceed your expectations in a good way while still offering delicious cream bread!
The side dishes sold online are easy to use and my family keeps repeating them (^people^)
Iberico Pork sando delicious, succulent and juicy, tender.
Good texture with the fresh veggies
Shakupan bread was well done and flavourful. Sweetness complemented the pork really well. A very impressive sando
DIY sando with Christmas shokupan, garlic prawn and yuzu mayo and otafoku sauce. Reminiscent of an aglio olio sandwich. Fun
Cold brew coffee was nutty and sweet. Refreshing on the palate
Staff’s service was prompt, warm and hospital. The cafe was spacious w a high ceiling, less noise reverb w a crowd
Excellent overall
