Reviews of Seng Huat Coffee House @ Hougang
Quite regularly I come to this place. This coffee shop is beside Hougang Mall. Quite crowded during peak hours. There are quite a number of stalls here selling good food and is quite popular among the neighbourhood here. The food here somehow is quite good. There are a few which I have tried. Example Hainanese curry rice, Bak Chor mee, chicken rice and the pork burger from the drinks stall.
Saw there are people eat laksa. Maybe I will try the laksa next time.
The chicken rice , Bak Chor mee and curry rice are all quite good. Not bad eat, can try.
Today, I Sylvia Ang known as Lay Kheng Ang, chance upon a great laksa. Bee Hoon with fish cake & tou Pak. $2 for extra hum or cockles. My cooking friend asked for location. The coffee house located opp Hougang mrt. Rating 5.0
The bak chor mee is very good. Despite the long queue, I was impressed my noodles came exactly how I ordered: less chilli, no pork liver, add noodles.
The queue at the hainanese chicken rice stall was even longer. Though I didn't try it, I'm sure it's good.
The tables were cleared and wiped promptly.
Pork bun set meal - $5.80
Saw this online and decided to give it a try. I got the original pork bun (instead of the fried one) and it tasted way better than it looks, partly because I don't usually go for items in weird shapes.
It's not a complex flavour, but its tasty nonetheless like a ramly burger. Note that you buy this from the drinks stall.
Have been eating the food here almost a decade
Absolutely love the
1) Handmade Fishball noodles (I usually order with pork liver mee suah)
2) Piggy bun burger
3) Chicken Rice
4) Economic Bee Hoon
Fish ball nowadays is a little denser than before but still good and bouncy. Will still be back many many more times as I had done so through the years!
Toast set is $3.80. Pork chop bun set is $5.80. Add 30 cents if you want "C" for your kopi/ teh. The toast is ok, they used real butter not margarine. Pork chop is pretty salty. Nostalgic taste. Kopi and teh are above average. Can be hard to find a seat during peak times, need to be patient. Remember to clear your own tray after dining.
Affordable breakfast nasi lemak set at $2.50, opens early. Pretty decent no-frills meal, not enough coconut flavour in the rice. Handmade Fishball noodle store quite crowded looking forward to trying that soon.
What is Hainanese Curry Rice?
It should have more than the usual amount of curry on the ingredients. Otherwise it will be like any mixed veg rice.
I paid 6.90 for 1 plate and when I went back to ask for more curry, she said if I want more I must tell her.
Looks like this lady just don't know what is Hainanese Curry Rice judging by the way she responded to me.
This is my 1st and last time to patronize this place. Clearly these guys don't know what they are selling.
Good bak chor mee sua & homemade fish balls. The bak chor mee sua is good but prefer the one at BK Eating House, South Bridge Road.
Came here specially to eat the maggie mee set which was nice! only to be told by coffee stall uncle that he is short handed so he can’t make! disappointed…. management should put in more staffs to help him lah! 🤦🏻♂️ don’t tell me coffee hot drinks also can’t make due to no manpower???
A healthy slice of marinated pork
Melted cheese and chilli sauce
Warm soft bun
Delicious breakfast
I love that the pork is sliced not some machine made pork patty from unknown food source
I’m lucky to get a decent looking pork bun and it actually taste great at an affordable price. Meat is juicy and served hot. Recommend to dine in instead of dabao back. Queue was short during weekday. Will drop by again next time!
Authentic Bak Chor Mee at $4.5. But the taking order Auntie is rude, unless you speak English.
Pork Bun set @ $5.80. Worth to try 👍
China employee doesn't knows how to pack take away food. All jumbo into 1 take away box. He said is like that.
Very good hawker coffeeshop fare here.
Chicken rice, fishball bah chor noodles, curry rice... All very good
Nice and rich aroma of coffee, fried noodle is underrated
Chicken Rice 🍚 very nice and cheap, Fishballs noodles prices increase many times but ingredients decrease many times too first no wantons, then ikan bilis and now no white fish cakes. Also have pig face buns too (31.08.2023)
Simple coffeeshop fare at low coffeeshop prices, compared to the prices oft quoted at the bigger chains such as Kopitiam or food courts. Dishes such as their mixed curry rice, dried mee sua and chicken rice are all well-received and reasonably priced. Does get pretty warm on those hot tropical days though. Place is crowded at mealtimes, especially with limited seating now due to the distancing measures in place.
This location used to be a shop selling mixed goods. After this coffee shop took over, it had never looked back and continued to be the same coffeeshop till this day.
Strategically located outside hougang mall enroute to the mrt, this coffee shop is always busy. The top selling dishes from this coffee shop are the chicken rice and the coffee stall.
The queues are usually very long for the chicken rice stall, and the old man making the local coffee is the "mascot" or ambassador for this coffeeshop as his drawing are plastered everywhere. Business is so brisk that they even open another coffeeshop nearby opposite from the bus interchange.
The service standard from the other stalls are lousy though. And fairly so, since they hire oversea workers. Their workers appears to rotate among the different stalls within the coffeeshop so they are sort of jack of all trades but master of none.
Prices here are slightly more expensive than those at the other Yoon Soon cafe near midtown building.
Full of delicious sin (pork bun, economy bee hoon) and pretty good fish ball/bak chor noodles available all day. I haven't tried the chicken rice but it's dirt cheap and popular as hell so it must be doing something right.
Food's average, slightly packed, due to small seating available.
Located at a good location, just near by rear entrance /exit of Hougang Mall and also beside Kangkar Mall.Business is always good even on weekdays not to say on weekends and Sundays even better. The coffee shop is not big but has some good tasty selection of foods.Example, minced meat/fishball noodle, economic bee hoon/mee/kway teow, Hainanese curry rice, chicken rice, etc. The coffee is also good.

Chicken rice is good, ought to try. Coffeeshop tends to be crowded most of the time due to limited seats. Can get rather hot and baked by the sun outdoors.
set 01 at $3.50 is so good! i think they use the pan to toast their 🍞
+$0.80 for a drink that’s not hot teh/kopi
Coffee Shop not big but food nice like Minced meat Fish ball Noodle and Chicken rice 😋😋👍
Bright, spacious ad good food located beside NTUC Fairprice. Convenience place for breakfast and meals.
The Malay food stall is nice over there , morning crowd.. other than that fish ball noodles follow by roasted chicken
The chicken rice is very nice and if I passed by I would surely buy.
To my personal opinion, only BBQ pork bun is good
pork bun is good, still available at evening time
Not bad.
Wonderful selection of food. Must try chicken rice and pork bun
