Reviews of The Carving Board
Western food tucked away in a large coffeeshop located beside the hawker centre. Portions are large, price is reasonable and the taste is good. The battered fish flesh is sweet, unlike other bland white fish fish and chips. Onion rings are thick and i like the texture of the sandy crust. The pork steak is a little tough, and can do with more of the green apple-parsley sauce. Mushroom soup is a bit too viscous for my liking. Drinks are reasonably priced too. Overall an enjoyable meal.
Very awesome food with big portion and quality food. Was skeptical at first because of the price point of western food in a coffeeshop. However I’m proven wrong!
Ordered the grain fed ribeye steak, carbonara. Both are very delicious. Steak considered the thick, cooked just right (medium rare) generous amount of fries better some restaurant out there with similar price point.
Will definitely return again to try their other item.
Do come early as it can get quite crowded even on weekday night!
If you don't live in the neighbourhood, getting here can be a bit of a journey. At first glance, the coffeeshop stretches out several units, offering ample indoor and outdoor seating. Once you've found a seat, head to the cashier to place your order. When your food is ready, collect it from the designated area. Be prepared for a bit of a wait, as the preparation of food can be slow. Unfortunately, they do not provide complementary water or sell local beverages like kopi/teh. The presentation of the dish is visually appealing, almost like a restaurant. However, the flavours were underwhelming, I didn't feel it was worth the trip. Then again, taste is subjective, so what may taste good to me might not taste good to whoever is reading this.
One of the hidden gem for westies. It's in a quaint corner of a rather hippy coffeeshop in Jurong east. Great western food the beverages they offer goes well with the meat. Food portions were very decent and it was a delight to have ordered a lamb steak that was medium well and it was bloody goooodddddd.
The chicken chop as pictured was rather chunky too!
4 August 2024
Had the beef bolognese which was decent but not exactly mind blowing.
On the other hand the pork (the dish across the table) with the mash potatoes and beans was impressively cooked. The pork was still juicy and tender yet flavorful highly recommend getting that dish.
The queue during peak hours such as dinner on weekdays and weekends is really long, so come early if you do not wish to wait about half an hour for your food.
Delectable western food at affordable prices, a must visit!
We had the sea bass ($17 including GST) and AUS grain-fed ribeye steak ($26) and both dishes were great and of really high quality for its price point! We ordered medium rare and the cook was perfect! The accompanying fries were hot and crispy, and the salad was good too. I also really enjoyed the seabass that had crispy skin and was of a generous portion. The accompanying vegetable ratatouille in tomato sauce was tasty and complimented the dish by adding a slight touch of sweetness, acidity and savouriness from the tomato.
We would definitely be back! :)
Edit: had a second visit, and had the AUS grain-fed ribeye steak again ($26) and mushroom risotto. Once again the steak was cooked perfectly and the sides of fries and salad were of great quality 🤤 we enjoyed the mushroom risotto as well, it was creamy and indulgent. There seems to be a touch of citrus, which is greatly appreciated as it cuts through the richness and helps to balance the dish. Best eaten hot thought, as it does get jelak/surfeiting when cooled. Best to share with a friend 🤗
Hidden gem in a HDB estate.
Had a good selection on the menu at very reasonable prices. Coffee shop was spacious and clean, no GST or service charge. Went for dinner and there were some people having beers at the high tables which added to the chill atmosphere.
Ordered the salmon and fish and chips. The salmon was moist and tender. The cauliflower puree was amazing! No strong cauliflower taste and very smooth.
The fish and chips were nicely fried with a light batter, not too greasy. Came with two big fish fillets too!
Overall very nice food and value for money. Will be one of our regular spots!
Glad to have a restaurant grade of western food within a neighborhood. Price point is considered high if you were to compare with neighbourhood coffee shop western food. But it’s unfair to do so. I would say that for this price point you could be paying for the food and the effort and ingredients to prepare. Sacrifice made for the non air-conditioned environment and plastic chairs being rebated back as savings.
Not enough tables and seats. Waited half an hour to grab 3 tables (for table of 6). However, the staff removed 1 of the tables, and asked 5 of us to squeeze in a table of 4. We ordered alot of food, but there was no table space. It was an uncomfortable meal as everything was very cramp. Food is good, but we changed location due to the cramp seating. We should probably just come here for food, no drinks/alcohol and no sides since there is no table space.
Had dinner on 1/3/24, was very good. Coffee shop styled alfresco dining. No reservations on weekends can be quite challenging for big groups. They served beer on tap too.
The place serves decent western food at affordable price, right in the center of a heartland estate.
Recommended: fish n chips. The fish has a good bite to it, encased in a golden crispy batter. Fries are crunchy and flavorful.
Steak is also good, for slightly over $20, you get a nice cut of meat accompanied with sides.
They also have interesting flavored rye beer and asahi dry black for those who are keen to try out something unique.
Can be improved: burger, bun is dry and patty is over seasoned with black pepper, masking the original flavor of the meat.
Ambience wise, the establishment is spacious, but with the background music and echo from the wall enclosure, it can be hard to have a proper conversation indoor. For a peace of mind, the outdoor seating will be preferred.
Overall a nice place that is wallet friendly for those seeking nice western cuisine.
The food taste good and the price is also affordable, need to wait for quite long time because there’s not enough tables for the crowd in peak hours, however they serves very fast and the food quality is still good
Ate the most amazing mushroom risotto, best i’ve had in Singapore! 10/10 would recommend!! MUST ORDER!!!
The grilled seabass with veggies were also fresh, i don’t like to eat capsicum but i gobbled the veggies all up! Wow.
Pork steak was tender, but it was cut a little too thick, it would be perfect thinner. The mash potatoes are mashed perfectly smooth.
We arrived pretty early (5pm) Service was pretty fast, will definitely visit again 👍🏻 The place starts getting full around 5.45pm~
Wallet-friendly restaurant food nestled in a coffeeshop in Jurong East HDB estate next to Yuhua Hawker. The mushroom risotto and pork steak were as good as what the reviews said. The fish batter is thin and tasty 👍 can tell the chefs put in their heart and soul. They keep the prices low without any gst and they send the food to you. Will be back to try the steak 🥩 the floor is super clean, and there's coolers and fans! Parking is ok on weekday nights.
My family's favourite western food now. Reasonably priced with taste that surpass brands like By Collins. Like their steak or beef burger that has nice char-grilled taste.
salmon was nicely grilled.
recommend to try their risotto is surprisingly chewy with nice chunks of mushroom in cream truffle sauce.
mushroom soup would taste better if it's not as starchy.
go early or late to avoid long waiting queue. will return to try chicken fillet and house beer.
Very good and affordable western food. The quality of food against the price you pay is unmatched. I would highly reccommend coming here. The porkchop was juicy witha great crust and perfectly seasoned. The beef was cooked to medium rare as requested.
Food here is sooo good!
Take note, it's self-service here.
Price is reasonable for the quality.
Place gets crowded fast!
Recommend to come at 11am or 4.30pm which is the time they open in the day.
Embarked on a culinary adventure guided by the chorus of rave reviews, and boy, did it hit the mark!
I summoned the mighty striploin and paired it with the bold Asahi Black, while my partner-in-crime opted for the succulent pork steak accompanied by a sidekick of crispy wedges.
The food quality had us doing a happy dance; what really tickled our taste buds was the wizardry that prevented any meat from morphing into a Sahara desert, with an enchanting touch of charred perfection (a.k.a. the wok key).
As we nestled into our cozy corner, the ambiance whispered sweet nothings to our souls. It was like dining in a roomy cloud, far from the clutches of a dining zoo.
We strolled in around 6 PM, and the place was abuzz with fellow food adventurers. Parking was as abundant as our excitement, and with a hawker center lurking next door, it was practically a proclamation of their triumphant goodness in that spot.
This is western food in a coffeeshop setting, no aircon. Food and their plating were decent. Wedges was rather tasteless, wouldn't recommend to order. Pricing above average than your normal western food in a coffeeshop setting but acceptable. Service was non existent, customers are expected to find their own seats, can be quite a turn off at peak hours. Cleaning auntie could have been mindful about wiping the dirt on table towards customer's direction. Overall fairly satisfied, but unsure to say if this place is recommended. May come back another time to try other items. Ample parking space.
Had Pork Steak and Sea Bass mains with a Mushroom Soup. Pork Steak feels like it was cooked sous vide and is very tender. Sea Bass comes with a generous serving of fish. Mushroom soup likely contains wild mushrooms and is fragrant and thick. Biggest issue is the queue times - it appears to be a pretty popular spot i the area, be prepared for long waiting times unless you make a reservation
Beware if you are ordering a takeaway, the staff will not call your number even when you are given a number. The fish and chip grew cold while I was waiting for my number to be called. Will think twice about going there again.
This eatery is located in the neighbourhood kopitiam at the bottom of the HDB. Parking was easy but can be a little challenging at meal times. I ordered a prawn salad ($13) and pork ($16) as a main. The prawn salad was acceptable, with 4 juicy prawns grilled to perfection with salt, and the portion of salad was generous. Because the pork was served at the same time as the salad, it was like warm by the time I sank my teeth into it. The portion was generous as well, and it was drizzled with pepper sauce. The meat was juicy but kinda lacks that sparkle in flavour. The total cost was $29, no serve charge. Because it’s part of a kopitiam, you get yo help yourself to the cutlery and packeted chilli sauce. And do remember to return the plates to the designated collection point after your meal.
Western food lovers can check out this place for delicious and filling steaks and pasta! First time here and I tried the salmon steak and beef bolognese pasta. Real generous portion (such rarity these days with prices going up and food portion sizes decreasing😫), tasted great and waiting time was ok (about 20-30min) though I went slightly late past dinner time at 8pm+.
Will be back to try out the other meat steaks (pork/chicken/beef) and pastas too - just seeing photos of other reviews make me crave already. Am glad to have found this place and I hope their food standards continue to keep up!😊
Update: recently tried the prawn aglio olio and was a tad disappointed that it only included 3 pieces of prawn. At $13 I think it could do with just a couple more prawn pieces! Will stick to other menu options for now🙂
Went to carving board for dinner and the place was packed, lucky we made a booking, but still need to wait for 45min. The service and the food were great. The only down side is the place can be quite hot (no aircon). Great job by the service staffs, keep it up😉
One of the best western food @ kopitiam I've come across so far.
Price is on the higher side but food is delicious. I think if you come here, order the beef steak or the Pork ribs. Very nice.
Price of the food here is like your restaurant price? I came here almost all the time because it is nice.
4 pax around 70+
So be prepared to come and spend your money :)
Location access is not as easy for public transport diners.
Finding an available table was akin to being in a food court, by standing near other diners who were finishing their meal in order to take over their seats. 😕
So the dining experience in this aspect was not good.
Anyway, ordered fish n chips and bangers and mash which were just stomach filling.
Really tasty and affordable western food. Kind of unique place in Jurong. Been there twice for diner. Would be great if they had brunch option in morning weekend, would be fantastic with kids considering the nearby playground. Also staff is really nice and pro despite being so busy. Display/presentation of the dishes is also very nice considering the price, the salmon and the risotto plates were nicely decorated.
Restaurant quality dishes at a fraction of the price. I ordered the 250g Ribeye and wiped the plate clean. Yummy.
Not to mention the establishment is located in a coffeeshop setting within a HDB estate. While the food is amazing, you can expect to wait about 20mins for your food (I went at 6pm on a Friday).
Best western. But on the pricey side. But money is well spent. I have tried the following and here are my ranking from the best to not as good (but not bad so I wouldn't call it worse)
1. Fish and chips
2. Steak (I forgot the exact name. Taste wise is as good as 1 but giving it 2 because it's not smth I will always get whenever I go there)
3. Seafood marinara
4. Pork chop
5. Risotto
6. Carbonara (I think it belongs here?)
6. Aglio olio
7. Seabass
Went probably at least 5 times haha I'll continue to grow this list
the grilled chicken is a must try. pastas are well cooked. onion rings is a good side and the mushroom soup is filling enough. the craft beer is also good.
Fish and chips is good as well. One of the great western food restaurant in SG.
The place was amazing , with fast interactions and good interactions with the waitress , short waiting time and good food to go along.
Food was worth it's price and taste amazing.
A good and humble neighborhood restaurant to get decent western food! The ribeye is mediocre but should fill your tummy. Sea bass with ratatouille is something I didnt expect myself to order but I did. Surprisingly, good portion of crispy skin sea bass complement with fresh, tangy and sweet vege ratatouille. Overall, was very happy with my decision as it was delishhhh! p.s slightly pricier than normal western food we see in coffee shop but worth a try if you stay near Yuhua village
Slightly above average western food in the jurong east neighbourhood. Worth to mention is their fries, truffle mushroom soup and risotto. Ribeye abit to tough for me to chew. My sister ordered the lamb chop, I personally feel the pepper sauce doesn’t goes well with it. If only they serve peppermint sauce with it. It’s gonna be awesome.
Decently priced western food at coffeeshop in Jurong East.
Tried the pasta, risotto, steak and fish and chips.
The risotto was great, so was the vongole , easily above average pasta.
The steak was a bit over cooked, so do remember to order medium rare if you like your steak to be medium doneness.
Special mention to the fries, crispy on the outside and still flavourful on the inside.
Nice Food! Order the pork steak, sirloin steak, lamb chop and chicken wings. All are very tasty. The only complaint is that it get quite hot. Recommended for the great food at great prices
Had a great no frills dinner here with my colleagues, with the grilled chicken done excellently. The chicken was juicy even for the breast meat portion, with the soft buttery mash potato being the star of the show when complemented by the tasty brown gravy.
Definitely a gem of a place to dine with a cheery ambience for family/friends and down a beer or two (bonus points for supporting local with rye & pint). Will be back!
Quality food with great price! The food standard is as good as restaurant. Not very salty which is a bonus.
🌟: Grilled Chicken $14
🌟: Fish & Chip $12
🌟: 4 wings $6
A hidden gem in neighbourhood coffeeshop. The pork steak is tender and juicy, not your usual tough pork chop. Fish and chips is well battered and crispy. Food here is really value for money, definitely will return to try the steak!
Every months at least one time will dine here, food is good and price are not bad with the quantity & quality! Morning they sell Dim Sum, night will be a coffeeshop with western dining feel. Good amount of fans around and beautiful lighting that doesn’t make you feel like a typical coffeeshop. Recommended!
The food is pretty good, but not too to my taste. The striploin steak have parts which are really tough, while the risotto is too creamy. The pasta looks good though, but I didn't try that.
Nice and warming western options. Comes with Sapporo black too. Rare options!
Absolutely love this place. Ate here two times in one week. Beef. Chicken. Pork. Sausage. Salad. Pasta. All great!
Cashier service could be better. She scanned the CDC voucher and told me she can’t refund the balance. She could have advised me before scanning the payment.
Here dishes price is flat, very close to my place. It is a good place to dine steak n salad.Recommend duck salad n spaghetti , chips n fish also delicious
Ordered the carbonara which cost 14 dollars.
Although the carbonara is not authentic, the carbonara that came was creamy and not too heavy. Beacon portion was ample and just the right amount of mushroom to make every bite very flavourful. Would definitely come back again as the prices are not too ridiculous.
A sort of kopitiam + restaurant vibe for a eating house located on the first floor of an HDB shop house.
The food is on the pricey side.
The mushroom risotto was yummy, creamy and mushroomy, definitely recommended. May look small but it is definitely filling.
There are also other food other than the western store there which you could try.
Very impressive mushroom risotto that exceeded my expectation in this unassuming coffee shop. Serves beer on the tap and other alcoholic drinks. Price is rather expensive for such a setting imo
For a setting like this in an heartland area , it is pretty impressive how they keep the crowd coming in. It was decent western food for a affordable price; portions were generous as well. Would definitely return to try the other entrees.
Food was better than expected, comparable to cafe fare. Tried the chef's recommendation, will be back for others when in the vicinity.
Very impressed by the quality of the pork chop and beef burger. Standard is better than some restaurants. No service charge. No GST. Will come back again to try other dishes!
Went on a friday evening at 6pm. Food was served less than 15 minutes after ordering probably due to lesser crowd. Simple menu without too much of choices thus decision making is easier. Our choices were delicious especially the grilled prawn salad. The grilled sea bass was ok not fantastic but a good try. Will definitely go again to try the rest.
Ordered the beef burger for myself and it was just meh. The beef doesn’t taste like beef (I have no idea why too) and the bun tasted smokey (which was ok but I’m not sure if it’s because of the smokey BBQ sauce).
Not a fan of aglio olio so I shall not judge much, but it’s pretty dry for my liking.
Will only be back for the clams vongole as the “broth” was quite sweet (my bf said it was due to the white wine and the fresh clams) I’m actually hoping that they would give more broth like Nipong Naepong, especially since I’m a soup lover
I’m on the fence on whether will I be back again as the food is decent and affordable (no GST and service charge), but nothing really wow-ed me. Moreover, the place is a little out of my way (a few minutes walk from Jurong MRT) so 3-star (possibly a 4-star if I live near the area)
Ordered Ribeye on medium rare. The texture was just nice, with the fats oozing juice when I chewed on it. Fries was tasty even without salt; the skin of the fries was crispy. Would recommend.
Awesome find in the west of Singapore (Jurong east) nice atmosphere at reasonable prices. They have western and italian cuisines with various kinds of beers. Brewerkz beers are available too.
Smacked inside atypical HDB kopi tiam setting.
Yummy as always.
The food was food and the price was very reasonable. Definitely recommended if you are looking for value for money
I've been eating here since before they raised their prices. This place is packed man, they occupy an entire coffeeshop (I heard they are related to the dimsum place that only opens in the corner).
Check out the crowd at 630pm on a Saturday. Come here by 530pm to skip the crowd. I personally like the pork chop alot. I find the taste/value ratio quite high for a western food place around jurong east.
The ribeyes steak was fantastic. The mushrooms soup was tasty.
The best casual western food i’ve eaten in a while. The steak was good quality and so juicy and tasty! The risotto was a delight and highly recommended.
The food was better than Astons, with comparable pricing.
Felt their standard are slowly dropping.
Chicken chop and steak is ok but the salad dressing is a little off, taste like cough syrup.
The aglio olio is rather bland, for that price, I expected much better.
I think a normal coffeeshop western serves tastier pasta..
Restaurant quality food in neighbourhood coffee shop. The price is cheaper than restaurant but more expensive than typical coffee shop food. But it is definitely worth it.
Tried the grilled chicken. It’s very good.
Food is pretty decent, but the place is messy: (1) No one and no sign to tell you whether to find your own table first or order at the counter first. (2) You have to find your own table, which at peak hours means hovering like hungry vultures over other diners. (3) Some tables outside have no number labels but the counter will still ask you for a table number. After lots of pointing and miscommunication over the years, they still haven't bothered to take 5 minutes to stick a 5¢ piece of duct tape with a number on each table. (4) The wait staff are efficient but don't expect to see a single smile on any face or expect any helpfulness other than bringing you your food. (5) Takeaway counter is deep inside, so all the Grab folks and those self collecting all have to wade twice through the line of people waiting to order their food at the counter.
Conclusion: Come for the food but be prepared for the mess.
Food is good, steak, rissoto and grilled chicken. Service however leaves a lot to be desired. Have to wait 25 minutes for them to takenmy order. When we head to the front counter the staff just ignore us and say they will take our order shortly which never happened until we approached a service staff repeatedly. They need to know how to work effectively during busy periods
Saw many customers who were annoyed at this as well.
The food here is fantastic ! It is perfectly seasoned, it taste amazing! And cooked just perfectly for you taste buds. It is a little pricey here, but it is worth for the food.
Nice western food with reasonable price. Nice ambience but could be a problem looking for seats during their peak period. This shows how popular this western food stall is in this neighbourhood!
Good steak @ reasonable price. Can get crowded during dinner time, suggest to reserve table before going
Value for money quality western food in kopitiam. 1kg steak at 100 dollars is worth it
Good food, good company!
Okay place for steak. Would be better if they offered more selections for sides
Affordable price and good taste
Affordable western restaurant. . The pork chop surprised me, but the rest was just average. .
Very nice spaghetti clams here!!!
Garlic Garlic a little too dry imo..
