Reviews of ToMo Cafe (Joo Chiat)
Edit: We ate at the Upper Thompson outlet not Joo chiat. Was heading over to Hello Arigato but we went past this cafe and knew we had to try it out! Pleasantly surprised with the delicious food and wide selection of dishes! We tried the Crab Linguine, Tiger Prawn Capellini and the Red wine Char Siew. All good choices! We tried the intense ice latte and honeycomb latte. Nice that they don't charge extra for the milk substitutes, and the coffees are presented very aesthetically.
LOVE THIER PASTAS!
Super flavourful, and in substantial amounts! The mentaiko pasta was not too jelak. They have an assortment of unique drinks to try too. Tried the tiramisu drink and it was not too heavy as a drink!
Service was great too! The owner came to the table and asked our thoughts on the food and even gave some recommendations for the dessert (but we were too full from our mains and drinks).
Would definitely want to come back again to try other things in their menu.
(Oh side note, the seating is quite limited, hence recommend that you reserve in advance!)
22 May 2024- Great coffee and lattes. Decent sando.
We ordered the two signature lattes. The honeycomb latte was 5/5, and note that this would be quite sweet in contrast to a typical latte.
The sea salt dark choco was 4/5 and we made it dirty. It was still a bit too sweet for a dark choc but the sea salt was quite a good pairing with espresso and choc. It helped that the house blend espresso was 5/5 to begin with.
Ordered a tonkatsu sando with tatter tots ($20+$2) and it was nice, though we had better elsewhere. The meat was a bit dry and a bit too thinly sliced in comparison. The pickled relish was interesting though.
30 June 2024- Great coffee lattes. Smoked salmon hummus and avocado scrambled eggs were super.
Cheesecake was dry though.
Recommend the crab linguine!
Tried the mango curry chicken waffles, mango made it interesting. Waffles were a huge portion and fries could have been better though, was quite oily.
Great coffee - really enjoyed the cloud latte - white coffee with salted cream on top, thought the flavour was great and well-balanced against the coffee. Food portion size was good, and it came out very quickly , but I thought the avocado (from the avocado and burrata breakfast dish) was too mushy and lacked seasoning; though the overall dish was generally good. Service was fine, and there were other people working on their laptops too - there are a number of power outlets available, which I liked.
Had brunch here on a weekday morning. The environment was pleasant and the food was good. I liked the fact that some of the items on the menu were quite unique. I appreciated the staff's helpfulness in accommodating our request to change the way the eggs were done in our order.
Just landed and went straight to ToMo Cafe. I was early for my resa but the cafe accommodated me. Had my friend with me and we tried the Wagyu Steak which was perfectly cooked (sous vide mbs 4-5 with cured cabbage, yakimayo). The houjicha goma latte and sakura spring tea was cherry on top! Beautiful start to our beautiful stay in SG! Thank you, ToMo Cafe! We will surely be back!
Please absolutely order the special drinks here - those with a savoury layer of foam.
The high rating is for the large portions and delicious/unique drinks that cannot be found elsewhere easily. The food is not bad but not wow for me.
Love the drinks because the foam is non-dairy. Do make reservations or be prepared to be on wait list for an hour. Similarly for their Neil Road branch.
Amazing salmon hummus toast! Very good honey pannacotta (a bit expensive for what you get though). Average Hazelnut cake, I found it had no taste :-(
Super nice staff and cosy ambiance !
Updated review (8th June 2024)
Visited ToMo Cafe again and was pleased with everything we had today. Service was great and we were seated shortly. Ordered pasta dishes and 2 drinks. Am glad the pasta dishes served had a bigger portion now as compared to the first time when we visited. The drinks were delicious too. I guess I'm planning for my next visit soon.
......‐....................................
Chance upon this newly opened cafe in Joo Chiat. Cafe was busy when we visited post lunch hour. Staff ushered us to our seat quickly. Cafe interior is pretty small. Friendly and attentive staff! We waited quite a while for our food and drinks to be served. We are happy with the drinks, especially the ice tiramisu latte! The katsu sando is tasty too! Was disappointed with the two pasta dishes we had because it was overly salty and the portion was little. Overall, it will be good if the food portion gets an upgrade to match the price.
Had beef pasta and avocado toast for food, houjicha latte, some yuzu drink and another honeycomb drink.
Food was ok, won’t say they are fantastic.
Honeycomb latte was good, and the yuzu drink too.
Atmosphere was good and though there was another table next to us, and they were chatting, the place didn’t sound very noisy.
Generally good experience and will consider revisiting.
Ordered Tiramisu Latte & Hot chocolate (orange), both drinks are very rich in taste.
Crab linguine is okay, I personally feel that the garlic taste is too strong for me,otherwise the taste is good.
Quality cafe food! Pasta was a little on the salty side but really flavorful. The drinks were amazing and the fried chicken side that we got were good too. Would drop by again!
Excellent pasta and one of the best coffees I've had in Singapore so far. I won't claim it's the best available, but it's really good in my opinion.
Service was quick and waiter was warm and welcoming. Place wasn't crowded, but maybe because of the weather.
🍯 𝗜𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗯 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲 ($7) + 𝗢𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗸 ($0)
This featured honeycomb in milk with an espresso shot that was aromatic and on point. The drink was really aesthetic but it was a little too much honeycomb for us. It had a tendency to stick to your teeth too. Nevertheless, we loved how changing to oat milk does not require a top up!
🍵 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗷𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮 𝗚𝗼𝗺𝗮 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲 ($8)
A substantial cup of houjicha goma latte, you’d be hit by strong umami notes which tasted almost like seaweed but in a good way. The goma cream was nutty and delicious, while houjicha flavours were decently rich and not too thin. This was a good and safe choice!
🍮 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗮 ($12)
We were initially quite surprised by the size of this dessert. There was a thin layer of pannacotta, topped with cinnamon crumble, generous honeycomb, and vanilla ice cream. The pannacotta was creamy and fragrant, went well with the texture of the cinnamon crumble and the sticky crunchy texture of the honeycomb. The vanilla ice cream was an icy refreshing contrast to the dessert.
Tomo Cafe is very popular, especially on the weekends. They have a dining time limit of 90 minutes too - so don’t forget to make a reservation in advance. We’d be back for their drinks and to try their mains!

Ordered the prawn mentaiko spaghetti. It was nice. Their unique coffee also worth trying. I ordered the goma black sesame coffee, it was good. Place a bit cramp and can be quite noisy when crowded.
Loved the ice kuro goma latte, especially the cream foam. Wished they had smaller servings of food for breakfast. Also had the cereal french toast (didn't expect it to come with chicken). Toast tasted to me like fried bean curd. It was ok but wished it was crunchier or firmer.
The special coffee- with sea salt cream is worth trying if you like the drink thick cream , a bit salty n sweet mix taste. It looks so pretty. Sando is nice too, not the best but overall a good choice for a coffee shop along Joo Chiat.
TOMO, a new cafe in the neighbourhood.
With the 'sando' quite similar to those from Hello Arigato and Cafe Natsu! Hope they can offer something more interesting!!
Their beef sando is good. Well marinated!
It is way much better than La Savoir's beef starter! That one at La Savoir is really an OMG CMI...
Chicken Cutlet sando at TOMO is very common nowadays. I wish they could be replaced with a well marianted chicken chop cutlet and use thinner slice of bread like TWG.
As we ordered two Sandos.
~ MAY WE ALSO SUGGEST that the servers could have informed us about the portion, style, and similarity of the food and advised us to change to another delicacies instead!
The hot sesame latte is good! Strong fragrant of black sesame taste. Even with the addition of expresso, the sesame is still fragrant and tasty within the mixture.
~ MAY WE ALSO SUGGEST that the servers be well trained and briefed on the menu before they take orders. It will not be presentable if the server keeps on return a few times to ask about the orders.
The cold sesame latte tastes differently than the hot one. It taste more like a black sesame ice cream milkshake and is super sweet ~ I think it will be a courtesy for the server to inform the diners on the sweetness of this drink before they even place an order.
It's a new cafe. Overall experience is good. The cafe is clean and less noisy. Good place to chill out. Will other cuisines a try next time.
I went to ToMo Cafe during lunch! There wasn’t much crowd then. Loved the chill snd cosy ambience, and really loved how the staff took care of my friend and I.
I ordered the Grilled Tiger Prawn Pasta for $23. The sauce was great and the prawn was fresh and smokey. One of the staff provided a smaller plate so it was easier for me to eat the pasta, so that was really thoughtful 😊. OKAY BUT I didn’t realised it was angel hair pasta so that was the only part I didn’t really enjoy.
I also ordered the Iced Hojicha Gomo Latte for $8. It was not bad 🫡
Thanks ToMo! (:
Nice new cafe that opened in Joo Chiat area. Came here during Tea time and really enjoyed their unique drinks/ coffee especially their Iced Goma Latte and Iced Tiramisu Latte. Ordered the Wagyu beef Sando with tater tots which was nice - beef was tender and tater tots really crispy. The Honeycomb Panna cotta dessert was nice too. Good service and ambience. Overall good experience and will come back another day to try more of their other dishes.
Drink was nice but pricey.
Saw negative reviews about service but I thought it was fine so I guess they listened to the feedback and improved.
Aircon was very cold though - I really wonder why. Waste electricity.
Restroom was cramped. Weird that the door opens to the inside when the space is already so tiny inside.
Love the steak sando here so much. Very flavourful and reasonalbly-priced. This is the only cafe that I want to re-visit. Too bad they are in the East. The tiramisu latte is nice as well. 10/10
I was surprised by how good the food was here! Stumbled in after another cafe ran out of the bakes we were looking for. The grilled tiger prawn pasta was sooo good and Tomo's breakfast has a really wonderfully done pork loin!! Service was great too, will definitely come again :)
went on a saturday afternoon. was seated within half an hour. the carbonara came quickly, however the other 2 dishes took more than 20 minutes.. the friendly staff were rly kind to provide us with complimentary karage.
the carbonara and sesame drink stood out to me. 9/10 overall!! will be back to try the other dishes 🤓
my mother and i are always at joo chiat every week for appts and we never fail to stop by at tomo for a quick coffee break or lunch. her personal favourite is the kuro goma latte, super unique and delicious!! the service is fantastic and the atmosphere is really nice. weekends are really popular for brunch, weekdays are more chill for a quieter coffe break ☺️ definitely recommend this place for their unique drinks !
We having a Yuzu Osmanthus cake, a Kuru Goma Milk for me and a Sunkiss Chocolate for my hubby! Interior design simple and nice, with woody colour, heritage green, beige, light grey, bamboo colours! Deco Wouk preserved flowers, paper flowers. They serve main food for lunch and dinner too
Very attentive and enthusiastic service with good knowledge of the menu. The 5 rating was for the exception service and very interesting selection of coffee / matcha. Pleasant environment but smallish.
Lovely place with lovely food. Will definitely come back with a bigger appetite. The honey pannacotta is really very nice. The refreshing nature of the honeycomb biscoff on the side works very well in complementing the heavier mouthfeel of the pannacotta. My favourite dessert and would definitely bring my friends here.
i thoroughly enjoyed my dinner at tomo cafe, they offer very personalised service which i appreciate! if you enjoy coffee, the intense ice latte is a must try! — 3 espresso shots beautifully crafted in the shape of a rose, with sea salt cream & milk at the side. i also had their lemon butter crab pasta which i devoured 😂 very generous with the crab pieces and pasta was cooked al dente which i loveeeeed! the tiramisu is perfect for 2 to share for dessert, not too jelak in my opinion! i will definitely drop by tomo again to try out other items on the menu!
Chanced upon this place while running some errands along Joo Chiat.
Was immediately greeted by the friendly staff as soon as we entered. The Cafe had good lighting and ambient temperature.
Ordered the Red Wine Char Siew Jowl and I highly recommend anyone visiting to order that too! Extremely unique and sinful dish that all pork lovers should have.
Toilets were clean and well maintained.
Will definitely visit again to try other signature dishes.
Very aesthetically pleasing cafe to catch up with friends! Food is delicious my fav is the crabmeat sando. Drinks are very unqie from other cafe definitely recommend to try them out. Service was wonderful, the staff checks up on us to make sure we are happy with our meals. Overall loved it
Tried their iced houjicha goma latte (roasted rice tea with sesame dairy-free cream and milk). It was delicious! The chill music and access to a power point made it a conducive space to work at too
Was excited to try this place after seeing all the videos about it on TikTok! But have to admit, we were a bit underwhelmed.
Enjoyed the coffee and Sando. Pasta was way too oily for our liking.
4.5/5 Stars - Delicious Brunch Experience!
We recently tried the wine-infused char siew, avocado burrita, and Tater Tots, and were thoroughly impressed!
The char siew, likely made from pork jowl, was incredibly succulent, despite the unclear sauce origin (tasting more like molasses than red wine). The rich, fatty meat (80% fat, 20% meat) was balanced by the sweet and savory flavors. One minor suggestion: the cabbage side dish could benefit from a tangier dressing to cut through the richness.
The avocado burrita was a highlight - scrambled eggs cooked to perfection, soft and fluffy brioche, and creamy avocado mash made for a delightful combination.
Tater Tots stole the show with their fragrant, crunchy texture and parmesan cheese shavings. Paired with truffle-infused oil mayonnaise, it was pure bliss!
Overall, the food exceeded expectations, and we can't wait to return for more!
*Will we return?* Absolutely!
Very relaxing ambience, had a great time winding down here on a saturday. Delicious mains affordable and good portion, perfect blend of flavour on the drinks. (black sesame latte & orange chocolate)
Ended off the meal well with a tiramisu
Was spoilt for choice as many items on their menu looked great. Went with crab linguine with miso butter and it did not disappoint. Will return to try the other pastas! Coffee was great too
really yummy food!! and good vibes too
esp loved the pasta, so much so that we ordered second round of pastas (not pictured) 🫢
the tater tots and drinks were also really good
even though it’s a bit out of the way, it’s worth the travel!
Chanced upon this gem of a cafe and stopped for coffee and their yuzu cake, which I really liked.
I must say, as weird as it may seem, the Iced Black Sesame Latte I had was extremely refreshing and delicious. Would not have thought sesame and coffee go together as a drink. They also have various other interesting drinks and food which I’d have loved to try.
The place has a nordic style atmosphere in terms of decor. Great place to spend some time on a catch up with friends.
Ordered the Grilled prawn capellini and the Miso butter crab pasta with truffle tater tots and a Matcha Strawberry latte. The food from ToMo is really really flavourful and a good portion for someone who eats a lot.
The prawns especially were amazing and easy to detach from the already peeled prawns, can taste that it's fresh.
The drink that we got was amazing as well, definitely will be back just for it.
The ambience and staff were great, food and drinks came relatively fast, overall the whole experience was amazing, the cafe is definitely doing something good!!
Was recommended by a friend to try out this new cafe because of their unique specialty drinks, and I’m glad I visited!
Special shout-out to their Iced Goma Latte (non-caffeinated), it’s super thick and fragrant, which is rare because most sesame lattes out there are quite light when served with ice, definitely worth the $8! Food was good, although the cream-based pasta can be a little gelat after a while.
Overall still a very pleasant dining experience, service is great, pricing is reasonable for the quality, would come again with other groups of friends! 😊
Good quality food. Tiger Prawn Capellini is seriously delicious. Love the Sunkiss Chocolatte. Place was a bit cramp but the food is worth it.
Very cute cafe with unique drinks! We got the tiramisu latte and kuro goma latte!
It’s a great experience to have a dinner at Tomo cafe.Atmosphere is chill and cool but the staff is also really friendly. The dishes were delicious as were the drink and dessert recommendations.
Loved the vibe and atomosphere! Would suggest to make a reservation as the restaurant was packed but the staff handled the situation really well and got me a seat after a short wait.
I would give a 5/5 for the charsiew, had a fiesta in my mouth with the flavourful sauce and juicy fatty pork!
The grilled tiger prawn capellini was delicious too! Al Dante capellini noodles tossed with a rich ebiko sauce and aburi tiger prawns .
Overall, what a treat! I would definitely come again given the fair price , quality of food and outstanding service from the staff!
Keep it up TOMO team!
Good kuro goma milk. AWESOME honey almond toast with nicely roasted almonds, matching good vanilla ice cream and just the right amount of honey topping. Great service too.
Location is rather remote from public transport (only one Bus 33 nearby and far from MRT), but I would like to come back again.
Great chili crab sandwich! The hot sesame latte was very good and not too sweet too.
The food in ToMo is amazing! It's like the best cafe I went to so far! The food, the drinks the service everything is great! Definitely coming back for more!👍
A sweet experience at Tomo during brunch-time on a chill weekday. My limited-time Cinni Bliss drink is inventive with ingredients like floral Earl Grey, dairy-free sea-salt cream & Aomori apple juice. Aomori is famous for its super-juicy apples so I’m delighted with Tomo’s choice. Also enjoying Wen Xiu’s knowledge & service.
Food was alright, carbonara pasta sauce was a little too much 🫠
Hard to leave as a friend as the service crew lacks the warmth to welcome. The only reason for return would likely be the Iced Kuro Goma Latte…
We ordered the Grilled Tiger Prawn Pasta and the Mentaiko Tater tots. It was blissfully indulgent and both cooked to perfection. Our server, Jasper made our experience at Tomo wonderful, he was so friendly and attentive.
Really tasty and filling chicken sando + the iced white cloud coffee was suuuuuper good (the sea salt cream was 💯) Ambience was good too (nice natural light) and the staff was friendly!
Beautiful cafe with a sleek look. Enjoyed their matcha strawberry cloud latte, which was fragrant and not too sweet. Friendly staff too!
Food & service was great!
Must-try the Intense Coffee with sea salt cream and the special side of charsiew
Overall an enjoyable lunch and highly recommend you visit Tomo. Ordered a latte, intense latte, babyccino, lychee flora fresca, tako karaage, crab linguine and breakfast. Food were great. The tako karaage was well seasoned and goes really well with the mayo. It wasn't easy to make this without the oily after taste. The crab linguine was also prepared tastefully. Many crab linguine I ate elsewhere always tasted bland and 'oceany', but Tomo's crab linguine makes me go for the 2nd, 3rd fork until i finished everything on my plate. The breakfast was reasonably priced and portioned. I enjoyed the pork loin instead of the usual bacon served elsewhere. The star of the show is the lychee flora fresca. It was refreshing and not too sweet. Perfect for our hot weather.
Cloud coffee is excellent. The cream foam is just the right consistency and sweetness. Tried the prawn pasta. Flavourful and generous. Some may find it heavy towards the end but works for me. Love the well coated pasta.
Ordered for a takeaway cappuccino.
the takeaway cup needs to be adjusted as its too small for the price point.
They serve sumptuous food with delighted presentation that anyone will feel alongside with the atmosphere even though you're at one corner. Also not forgetting the fragrance of the food that allows you to feel that you're floating in the sky. The service is superb as well as the staff are very courteous. I will definitely recommend my friends and family to patronize here again 👍👍👍😋😋😋
I enjoyed the atmosphere and the service at this place, but I was disappointed by the food. I ordered the crab linguine and the prawn capellini, but they did not meet my expectations. The crab was not fresh and had a strong fishy smell and taste that made me leave it untouched. The prawn capellini was a mixed bag: one of the prawns was overcooked and had a burnt flavor that lingered in my mouth, while the rest were grilled well and tasted good. Both the pasta were a tad bit salty. The toast and the september special tasted average. The tea were okay, but nothing special. Overall, it wasn't worth the price.
ToMo makes good drinks! I wanna go back and try more. Their sesame/matcha/hojicha creations are amazing. Had the duck aglio olio and burrata avocado dishes, both were good.. Yes wanna try more of their food menu too. Service is lovely. Visit to find out what does ToMo mean :D
Coffee type of drinks — excellent (tried tiramisu and honeycomb)
Beef ragout pasta — excellent.
Beef sando — only order this if you like beef brisket / pulled pork kind of texture/ taste.
Tonkatsu Sando — excellent. Very thick slice of meat and crispy.
Chicken sando — excellent. Mango curry sauce taste unexpectedly good
Recommend to try make reservation for weekends as it is very crowded during 12-2pm. They do allow walk ins but need to wait around 15-30 minutes.
Overall excellent food quality for cafe, a bit on the pricey side but taste good
Reviews were right about the drinks.
Food could do better given the price range.
Friendly and attentive front of house staff
Unique coffee, great service! They customised a black sesame latte for my wife when she mentioned she didn't want sesame cream! Do make a reservation before coming.
Looks good and tastes good!!!
Kevin and Jasper was very accomodating and the food was amazing! Didn’t see the cafe but ended up finding it after a short walk. Would come again next time.
Delicious food and incredible drinks. Highly recommend the Kuro Goma Latte. Will definitely return and try other menu items 😄
Nice chill place! brought my friends over for early lunch. Food and desserts were incredible especially the tiramisu. Looking forward to visit again soon!
Food is so nice and the tiramisu coffee is something else. I look forward to visiting Tomo every time I am in Singapore.
Delicious food with reasonable price!
Staffs are friendly and helpful too 😀
Cosy setting with yummilious food!Love their signature drinks...honeycomb latte!!!
The sesame flavor is very strong, but the taste is very light, much like sesame water.
The salmon is smoked and has a slight fishy smell, the toast is a bit lacking, and the sauce is great!
Nice vibes and yummy tottee tots
