Reviews of St. Pius X Priory (SSPX Singapore)
The priory-chapel of St. Pius X is a Roman Catholic place of worship, under the pastoral care of the Fathers of the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX). The priests of the society, validly ordained, celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass (also called the Tridentine Mass, Usus Antiquior, or as Pope Benedict XVI referred to as the “Extraordinary Form”) and the other sacraments and ceremonies according to the liturgical books in force before the reforms connected to the Second Vatican Council. All the sacraments are validly administered, and in 2016, the priests of the society received special authorization by Pope Francis to celebrate the Sacraments of Penance and Matrimony.
The Society of St. Pius X was founded in 1970 by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre as a society of common life without vows. The young congregation was canonically erected in the Swiss Diocese of Lausanne, Geneva, and Fribourg by Bishop Francois Charriere. Due to complex reasons, this congregation was eventually suppressed by the ecclesiastical authorities, which Archbishop Lefebvre viewed as an injustice. The society continued to operate due to what they believe is the grave need for the Traditional Mass and sacraments to be provided to people worldwide, as well as for the teachings of the Church to be upheld in their full integrity. During the early years immediately after the liturgical reform in 1969, there was a great danger that the Traditional Mass would vanish from the Church entirely. The society was instrumental in preserving the traditional liturgy during that time, and still continues their mission today.
This chapel thus operates without the official stamp of approval from the Archdiocese of Singapore. However the names of Pope Francis and the Archbishop of Singapore, Cardinal William Goh, are prayed for in the Canon of the Masses offered here and the society professes full fidelity to the Catholic Church.
Designed in the baroque style, this chapel is home to a vibrant community of Catholic faithful. Masses, confessions, and the other sacraments are available here on a daily basis. There is also a small bookstore at the entrance.
Located within a row of houses, the priory-chapel is within a 5 minute walk from the Upper Thomson MRT station.
The Traditional Latin Mass is the mass of the Church for over 1500 years prior to Vatican II. It is in these parishes where you will see the fullness and fruitfulness of our Church. The TLM simply embraces your mind, body, soul, and spirit with awe and reverence. God love you and bless you!
Wonderful place for worship of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
