Reviews of Climb Central Sports Hub
Climb Central located at Kallang Wave mall is a pretty good place to rock climb for all levels of wall climbing be they beginners, intermediate or the experienced climbers.
If its your first time climbing at any Climb Central branch then even if you are an expert, you will still have to attend a mandatory lesson to get yourself a pass.
The staff are quite nice and are willing to help. The place has the manual and the automatic belay system. Their walls can be quite challenging with the jutting out pieces getting smaller or tougher to grip onto as you make your way higher up the wall.
There are lockers and cupboards placed there for precious items and they have changing rooms which are in the bathroom.
They also added a water cooler near the lockers for which you would need a bottle to use.
Overall its a pretty good place for rock climbing but if you have really young kids, it might be a bit tough on them.
Always a pleasant experience at this particular outlet of Climb Central. Good space for all climbers - from beginners, intermediate, advanced to experts. Booking for climbing slots has to be done three days in advance via their website. You may sign up for a regular pass if you intend to climb frequently (applicable to be used at other outlets in SG too). Otherwise, it is $25 for first-timers (including $7 rental for the climbing shoes and harness). Their equipments and walls are well-maintained. Personal climbing shoes and harness/chalks also welcomed.
Very friendly and efficient staff and instructors too. Detailed safety briefing is conducted at the start if required for beginners. They are also always on the lookout for the well-being of all climbers throughout your session. Each session is now limited to 2 hours due to Covid. The overall climbing community is very inclusive and helpful - makes everything more enjoyable. Auto belay system available on the second level.
So fun! Accessible climbing experience, even beginners can belay their friends, making it possible to access all walls. I came here on holiday, and staff member EE Yong made the whole experience memorable and had a great sense of humor. He went above and beyond to provide a wonderful experience for my partner and I. Would come again.
Great indoor climbing gym. The entrance is located at the basement.
The roof is glass, which gives nice natural sunlight. However, it does get a bit warm.
I went around lunch time, it wasn’t full but there was a decent amount of climbers.
A great challenging set of walls! The staff train amateurs well before they begin climbing. There are good offers for regular customers. It's popular with youngsters. Very clean and organized. However, it's a little congested especially during peak hours. But it was a great experience!
While far more expansive than their other outlets, trying to squeeze so much into such a small space ends up working against them.
Overall, the routes are very well done, with great variety across grades and styles: from bouldering to top rope, autobelays, and lead climbing, in addition a spray wall and endurance bouldering routes, there’s a little bit of everything
However, by cramming so much into such a small space, it not only feels cramped but leads to safety concerns. Given that half of the climbers are under 12, you constantly have kids running underneath you, oblivious parents paying more attention to recording their kids than other climbers, and overall poor etiquette as they constantly cut in front of you while waiting for a route. Beyond a somewhat lackluster safety course, they should also teach basic climbing etiquette, especially to parents. (Don’t get me wrong, I love that the next generation is getting into climbing, but it’s important to teach them good habits that are safer for everyone.)
Add to that poor ventilation and old carpets and there’s simply no escape from noise, heat, and smell. The locker room is even worse, and feels like your 100 year old high school gym.
Would I go back? Absolutely. The ability to go to three different gyms across Singapore on a single pass is hard to beat. But the experience is far from perfect and I would avoid days/times when kids are out of school.
Climb sessions are fun (5 stars really), but maintenance of flooring at Kallang Wave Mall is quite bad, it smells very humid and sweaty, even at the top rope areas. Perfect environment for mold to grow... Definitely need a thorough clean. Either that or turn up the air con for air ventilation at basement!!
Overall I like this climbing wall. The walls are high and there is a bit of everything top-roping, autobelays, bouldering and leading. It is clean and seems well maintained.
Again I believe it is another wall that goes pass safe and into dangerous again. The belays are attached to the ground, therefore it would be hard to drop someone. So super safe to belay someone if your belaying skills are not up to scratch but not so great for improving your belaying skills.
The staff are friendly but they are quite the jobsworths and seem to follow you around the wall telling you off continually for not following the myriad of rules they have at the centre such as children aren't allowed to boulder or belay from the ground anchors even with adult supervision, certain areas can only have a set number of people in them (e.g. the up-stairs autobelay area), you have to leave a gap of 1 climb empty between each person etc. etc.
Overall a good experience...Very busy and a little crowded... Little odd/awkward to be in the middle of a mall with spectators on the mall levels around you as you climb up. They use fixed ATCs mounted to the floor, which they consider safer so brand new climbers can belay on the first day. No discount for bringing your own equipment the first time, as it's included for first timers.
Took the kids. It is an excellent place to go and really encouraged the kids to climb! They stayed 2.5 hours. The last time I took them to a climbing gym, they lasted 2 mins because they were scared and intimidated by the wall height. Here they were far more comfortable.
I like climb central. The walls are tall and the routes are interesting. It is a good place to lead climb or top rope. I never really boulder there so I can't judge. The routes are set well and I enjoyed my time climbing here.
I am new to singapore and it was my first visit here. Very small and crowded and very hard to find out. It is located at the basement of Kalang. Also, I had literally queue up and wait long to be able to get a chance. Options are much lesser for top ropes. Expected better.
Good choice of walls. Ranging from expert level to brand new 7yr old beginners. Can get crowded on weekends however they do have flow control so it doesnt get overcrowded.
I come here to climb after work, it is easy to access and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable and most importantly - there are a good number of solo walls with a wide range of skill levels for those who cannot arrange a partner for every trip to do the belaying
A good place to start rock climbing. A fun day to spend with your friends or family ! =) I recommend this place for anyone that want to try something different.
Btw you will feel your muscles work, a lot..
Went to the one at Novena with my kids. Friendly and professional staff. Took their time to explain things. Kids loved it. Will surely visit again
Beginner and uncertified climbers welcome! Great vibe and great location. Get a day pass with your buddies and have a great time!
Probably one of SG's best, but the long queues to get in - especially on the weekends - are a huge letdown. The anchor belay system can be annoying too.
Great place for beginners. Friendly and welcoming vibes. Fun routes. The only thing is it can get a bit crowded at times
Easy to book, welcoming and smiling staff. Lots of climbing routes. Fun regular climbers.
Many people were there. Look good but I went food court for a meal.
Climb Central - Kallang Wave Mall
Look great and fun. Have yet to take my 1 step forward.
Update on Jan2018
Awesome service. Good facility. Worth its price. The only flaw is that its so popular that it gets very crowded.
Original CC venue. Great assortment of lead, belay, autobelay and bouldering.
Loved it. Please don’t come so we can have more slots.
