Reviews of Kam Leng Hotel
Friendly staff, Nice Hotel View, Good Environment, Near MRT, Bus Station & 7 Eleven is just opposite, All perfect
Reason i booked is because of parking who which turned out to be public one. Need to pay. Staff not aware of cost of parking.
Dont expect local channel from TV. Wallpapers peeling away in room 101.
Thought newly renovated but still inder reno. Expecting noises from construction tomorrow. Sigh
My wife and I stayed here for a week. Like any other visit stay place in Singapore, the place was conveniently located near the condo unit where our daughter stayed. The weather was very wet and Kam Leng provides umbrellas for use of guests and just return when we get back by night. No questions asked.
The place has cool A/C for rooms and hall making the place very comfortable, even if the place is under renovation.
It's located a walking distance to Mustafa Store and City Square Mall, 7/11, stores and many eating outlets.
Value for money is most appreciated and the staff are very helpful, acts speedily, and very courteous. We love the place.
Nicely done restoration. Modern amenities subtly introducted to a classic decor without making either tacky. Great service to boot.
Edit: After second visit 5 years later, service is now very lacklustre with disinterested front desk staff, sloppy housekeeping and the renovated rooms somehow seem worse than before with cheap flimsy fittings, no storage shelves or wardrobe whatsoever and a useless TV that doesn't connect to streaming and has no local tv. The photos of all the rooms you see with the nice bedheads are literally the only nice angle of the rooms. Everything else looks plain, dirty and shoddy. Such a disappointment having considered this place a hidden gem before.
Very good. Just hook don't have. Very old ambience hotel which i like. No ghost at all.
Quaint decorations. The rooms are clean. However I find the rooms that faces the interior of the building lacks ventilation. This is a problem as the room (4-12) I was in became damp to the point the bedding was damp. I had to be moved to the executive room that have windows that open up. The WiFi provided is fast and reliable. The service provided by the staff was great!
The place is old and in need of repainting inside. The room that we stayed in was a bit small and the bed was sagging. They did have hot shower and a mini-ref. The best thing about this hotel is its location. It is near Little India and Bugis and has a lot of great food places.
A lot of people think that this hotel was to old and horror feeling, but I don’t think so. They kept the design like that to keep the historical feel when you spend the night here. I loved how they kept the history in a picture in all of hotel wall to. Very near to bus stop and in front of sevel. So it was convenient for foreigner like me. The room were little bit dark, but that’s fine. The services were good. One thing that I didn’t like about this hotel is they try to made you by the electricity connector, cause I can’t used the electricity without it, even if it only 3 sgd (in another hotel I can use it without bough the connector)
The hotel is at a great location, close to 2 MRT stations and to restaurants. As for the room, they were pretty clean, although kind of small, but it didn't matter to me, since I would only go there to sleep. Even though they didn't offer breakfast, I found the complementary snacks more than enough. The staff was pretty warm, I would recommend!
Quaint atmosphere, rooms were relatively comfy but rather small. Asscociate staying there had bed bugs. Hotel itself was rather dark along the corridors giving it an eerie feeling. Located along the main road, may be inconvenient to park. Service was good, staff were friendly and helpful.
Abit scary at first, very rustic hotel i would say. Fortunately nothing scary happen. Aircorn looks old. But it managed to cool the room. Came with mini fridge. But there is nothing inside.Too little hanger. No carkpark at hotel. Not exactly near to mrt. Some walking distance. There is 2 public carpark nearby but mostly full. Manage to catch a glimpse of their 10m² room, its really small. Wifi speed is okay. Tv is not smart tv so i cant do sharescreen.
My wife and I spent four nights at the Kam Leng Hotel at the end of April, as part of a get-away from a longer trip to visit relatives in the Philippines. For the price, we were very satisfied. The neighborhood has numerous restaurants in the neighborhood, as well as one situated in the lobby, and it is an easy walk to Little India. As noted by others, the restroom has a distinctly Asian character, which means that some shower water will get tracked around a bit, but we did not find this to be a significant concern. Noise was not an issue, as we had rather quiet neighbors. We would consider this hotel a bargain for cost-conscious travelers, and it had just the right amount of the exotic. I give 3 stars, which is perhaps a bit strict as I would consider Kam Leng very satisfactory for the price. Really about 3.5.
Pretty good and cozy hostel. The rooms at the back faces a construction site and it's pretty noisy till late. May not be suitable for light sleepers. Bed is also too soft and sinks in the middle. Other than that, location is good as there are buses and the nearest MRT is 10 mins away.
This hotel was relatively okay. Note that this review is for the smallest/cheapest room you could get in this hotel.
We booked it through Expedia for 10 days at the end of August and it was $680.
Room: The room was small! Please see my photos! We had absolutely no problems with this, but others might need/want more space than provided. The bed covered about half the room and the other half was filled with a small desk and a chair. There was no window in the room, but we did have a window in the washroom. When the lights were off, it was as if you were in a room with the blinds closed -- it wasn't complete darkness, but it wasn't bright either.
The bed was comfortable and clean. The room and washrooms were also clean. The TV had 3 channels in English: Fox News, a movies channel (this was great, no commercials, just a recent movie every 2 hours) and a channel with TV shows (also pretty nice).
We had only 2 outlets! We had to do a lot of swapping to boil water, charge laptop and charge our 2 phones, but we managed fine.
What I disliked was the amount of space to put things. The little desk was often filled with stuff (food, plans, and all their equipment as well). I tried to stack as many things as I could on their little shelf and keep the desk usable.
The fridge was a welcomed addition, but unfortunately it only worked about 30% of the time. When it did work, it worked well and kept things cool (though not cold).
The AC worked well, but it only kept things cool (not very cold at all!). I would say it got the room down to about 20 degrees which we were okay with, but perhaps others might find this too hot still.
The bathroom was very nice -- no physical bathtub or shower space. We always had hot water, so that was just great :)
Every day we got coffee, tea, and 2 bottles of water. Additionally, when we came we got 2 free toothbrushes. I imagine you could get toothbrushes every day, but we didn't need to. The room cleaning girl was very nice :)
WIFI was really good! We had no issues with it at all and were able to easy enjoy watching YouTube in high-def.
The hotel itself is old-ish in appearance. The elevator was extremely slow (we counted 40 seconds to get from main floor to the 4th floor), so we often took the stairs. The hotel also had a laptop available on the main floor with free internet. I used it a couple times.
The hotel is located 10 minutes away from 2 major train stations. Many buses going to downtown also stopped across the street from the hotel. Additionally, the hotel is also located about 10 minutes away from 3 large grocery stores: Cool Storage on Lavender (24h), Sheng Siong on Jalan Basar (24h) and Fairprice in city square mall (closes at 10PM). The hotel is also nearby a lot of food (especially Indian Food!) in little India. Little India has lots of things to see -- I would highly recommend going at night on Sunday to really see a hundreds and maybe thousands of people congregate around Mustafa Center. There's also a little mini-hawker center across the street (about 3 food stalls), as well as a 7-11 and other restaurants.
Overall, the hotel was good for the price we paid and we had a great vacation in Singapore.
Back again here for extended stay. Different room but super clean as well
Standards have deteriorated since my last stay 2 years back. Room is decent as the price is very reasonable for Singapore standards. But this time, I stayed in 2nd level and it was pretty noisy.
Really unlucky that during my stay, there was some prostitution ring raid in my hotel. We were pretty shocked when police knocked on my door early morning and interrogated us.
Not the hotel's fault maybe but the hotel should have allocated manpower to escort the police. How would we know if the police was a fraud?!
That morning wake up call by police really spoilt my trip. No apologies at all from hotel staff.
Had revisited kam leng hotel multiple time. Awesome location with fine room where you can relax after a hectic day. Charge up and go for more site seeing. Night life are just steps away you does not need to go far. There are many cafe around the corner. Kam leng has room that are comfy and also the staff are friendly. Price wise are still affordable compare to other premium hotel which cost a few hundred dollars.
The soundproof is bad. The hotel lobby is old, the location is good though.
Clean bedsheet
Comfy bed
Cool air-conditioner
Nice place to stay
One defect that our shower a bit broken. But, overall this is nice place to stay within bugdet. Very close to Mustafa Centre about 8mins walk distance
Nice hotel old building nice room will come back again good job
The first room we were given was mouldy and smelly, so we requested for another room which was better. Comes with a smart Tv. Overall satisfied . The smart Tv had some minor issues but we were able to overcome them.
Everything is good just need more information for guest about the hotel
It is a nice and comfortable place to stay in Singapore, even it is a little bit pricy. But it is near enough from MRT station and the Bus stop is right infront the hotel. It also near with halal food of you are Moslem
This building was erected 1927. So it's an old lady. Staff friendly. Ok room. Located in the Jalan Besar area . Nearest MTR station is Farrer Park .Walking distans around 500 meters.
Near Bus and MRT Stations, and Convenient Stores. Rooms are good, beds are comfortable, highly recommended. Slightly far from crowded Singapore attractions which is good..
Nostalgic hotel. Stayca-ed twice due to convenient location n access to good food. Enjoyed our lunch at “Enjoy” although a tad pricey.
It's the best in the area. It's clean and Adam (front desk )is very nice and accommodating to our needs. If u need to eat and it's inexpensive . Go next door Ponggol on the right. Of the building from the lobby.
Great little hotel, we'll located across the road from food market and bus stop.Rooms small but clean. Rather quirky atmosphere.
Can't really say much about the rooms since only popped by the bar by the side for a quick beer. Seems like a rather quaint spot which is a short walk from the MRT
Great little place with clean big rooms. Water heater was a bit wonky though. Perfect as a love hotel.
Vintage, old Chinese style, big bath room, opposite BUS station, opposite 7-eleven, near Cheers (2 stores), lovely décor <3 friendly staff
But little bit far MRT station (700m to Bendemeer MRT)
Nice staff, comfortable enough with good price
i've stay here for 3 days, and staf are friendly, the hotel near from 7 eleven and bus stop..room are clean but i don't like that smell i this room
The location is quite central, there are few nearby MRT; Bendemeer MRT is about 15 mins walk; Lavender MRT and Farrer Park MRT is about 20 mins walk. Next to the hotel there is famous Punggol Nasi Lemak.
Very nice hotel.
Professional and friendly staff. The rooms are nice and fashion.
I will go back for sure.
Hotel appears vintage on exterior but clean inside. Location is good with good food within the area
This the hotel who are people just want to sleep overnight with clean enough room and simple facility, please do not wishing the more than what hotel means for. I like that
Cosy and comfortable. Could be slightly fresher but amenities were fine. Close to food options and public transport.
I like the hotel, a true antique, shd renovate the place n reinstate the restaurant on the rooftop! Food & drink price a bit on high side!
Central location. Very cozy and friendly environment. Opposite it is s convenient 7 eleven store and many eateries.
It's ok. Rooms are smaller but it's cheap so no complaints :)
Very traditional style of concept. Nice stay with the room size bigger than expected!
the room is pretty big, but the decoration & facilities is old, and has a weird smell
Very obsolete style hotel. I felt I was in the 40's. Clean and neat! Recommended!!
went there for Abundence and Enjoy only. Food at both places is good
Decent stay. Neat and well maintained rooms. Heritage property.
Clean hotel but room is dark and furnitures are old. Smell is also slightly weird.
Enjoyed our stay at this hotel staff very helpful and friendly close to little India and China town great food court opposite the hotel lots to see and do
Went to visit my friend who stayed there for 1 night. Great hotel centrally located.
The rooms are "tiny", pretty clean place though. Very close to Little India.
Retro feel.however, small and cramp room yet cozy. Good for short stay
Nice, cozy and practical. Would visit again. 7/11 Right Across Street.
Old hotel with deteriorating interiors. Conveniently located but really old
Old school zi char restaurant with delicious fish soup and chilli prawns.
Great place to have ur weekly boom boomz
Room is not very nice
Clean and cute rooms
Quaint boutique hotel
Peacefully
The location is quite good. Opposite is a bus stop for many lines, whether going to Marina Bay or going to Orchard or the National Museum zone, it's very convenient. The quality of the room compared to the price is considered acceptable. There was some broken equipment, but the staff fixed it well.
(There is a room security deposit of $50, payable at check-in)
Good starting point for visiting Singapore with the metro nearby and the bus stop right in front. In a very characteristic 1920s style, the staff is helpful. The rooms are a little small and some without windows... however excellent value for money
got a discount on the gledek price of 250k, it's really good... for a budget traveler, it's really good, next to it there is a halal Ponggol Melayu restaurant, if I'm not mistaken, don't try it... it's closer to the Downton MRT station than Lavender, the road is far away.. it's even better if you go up SGbus.. will stay here again if I get another promo hahaha, they said there are lots of promos on the official site.. thanks kam leng hotel
Although it looks a bit "old" on the outside, the inside is also very modern. I booked a standard double room, the room is not too big, just enough for 2 people, every day you will get to change towels and 2 free bottles of water, I really like it. This is because water in Singapore is very expensive to buy. After drinking, you should keep the bottle to go to public places to refill water. The staff here are very polite and enthusiastic. Here they also sell tickets to visit tourist areas, with discounts, the price I think is also ok. There is also a map counter here, you should take it for reference if you haven't had time to get a map at Changi airport
The price/performance ratio is quite high, but it's a bit old, but the price is affordable. If you're afraid of noise, don't stay in a room with windows, because it's noisy on the side of the road.
Singapore's Chinatown is a good place to stay at reasonable prices, in a very lively area, with many shops and cheap restaurants. The local Tiger beer is very good. Advisable.
The price is reasonable, the room is small, but clean and soundproofed. Opposite is a 24-hour snack market
It's still acceptable, if you want a bargain!
The waiter is really indifferent. But the room is clean and comfortable, highly recommended.
I like this hotel as it has a homely feeling, also like the rustic look. it has its own character
This is the worst hotel. Very dirty. Bed has stains. Towels stinks. Spiders and cockroaches inside the room. Really disgusting.
Nice location, not much commodities, a little messy at the entrance since there was some construction going on. Room clean and nice.
Small room but convenient location.Hot water is no problem.
The location is quite good, but the room is average only
All are godd
Very basic facilities, no hooks in the bathroom, shower gel quality is very poor, did not tell the front desk, no one cleans the room, the room is very small, not worth 680 yuan a night
