Reviews of Aphrodite Waffles & Gelato
Quite standard ice cream selections, which is easy for eaters who just want a quick-fix of bodily coolants. Somehow the honey-based ice cream can taste even more buttery than the butter-based ice cream. There is definitely a unique texture to the ice creams, which flows like butter in the mouth (really imagine the texture of eating mcd's butter in it's semi-melted state). Nonetheless, the taste of the ice creams are generally very good! The shop is spacious and peaceful inside, but the general location of this area outside is just chaotic. Do not think about driving here.
The staff has positive vibes here and the cafe environment is calming. Tried their interesting flavour Dark Chocolate Blue Cheese and Pistachio. Enjoyed it!
Clean and spacious ice cream shop with unique offerings. There were several flavors, at least when we visited, that had herbs in them. We are not a fan of the texture as they were powdery but quality was good nonetheless. The price was fair.
salted honey & bitter gianduja it’s a very good combination and not too sweet🤭 we came during non peak hour and the owner is really friendly!
They have a very fun concept - If you can guess the flavour of the ice cream labeled ‘?’, you get that scoop for free! Surely brings a special experience.
They serve unique ice cream flavours! Tried the flavour bouquet that really taste like flowers and buttery biscoff that you will like of you like caramel.
Staff was very generous when requested for additional maple syrup to go with the waffle! Will definitely come back! 👍🏻
Been here way too many times to count. If I had to choose my personal favourite gelato place, it'll be this one. If you're looking for unique, floral ice cream, this place does it the best. (A close fight with BOP's white chrysanthemum)
Besides the phenomenal gelato, the service here is excellent too. Although sampling isn't allowed (for now), this place has a unique Guess the mystery flavour experience. You'll get to taste a bit of the mystery flavour (which rotates in 2-4 weeks) and if you guess the main ingredients right, you'll get a scoop for free.
The waffles are crispy and fluffy too, not the best but way above average (I don't usually order them as they aren't cheap).
Now for the gelatos:
All gelatos are extremely smooth and silky.
Aphrodite : their signature flavour, Dark chocolate and blue cheese. It used to be on the sweeter side with a hint of blue cheese, but now it has changed. The blue cheese flavour is now noticeable, and in good proportion. For a casual blue cheese eater like me, it was just nice. I could taste the well balanced sweet and savoury flavour of the ice cream and was quite satisfied by how rich it was overall. Not to mention how unique it is and how well they managed to pull it off.
Snow Flakes Jasmine : I love jasmine flavoured stuff; and if I could have only one scoop of ice cream, it would be this one. The strong jasmine fragrance of every spoon is contrasted with how unbelievably light the ice cream is. Together with the silkiness of the ice cream, it is such a simple yet amazing scoop of ice cream. Definitely a must try especially if you like floral ice cream.
Bouquet : As exotic as it sounds. This flavour has probably gone through the most changes and testing due to how complex it is. A masterful mix of chamomile, lavender, rose and lemon balm into one scoop is a challenging move. Yet through the various iterations, I find this scoop one of my favourites here due to the amount of flavour and fragrances in a single scoop. It somehow is on the lighter and refreshing side of ice creams. Extremely unique and worth a try if you're open. (if it wasn't clear, do not try this if you don't like floral ice cream)
Sunset lavender: For those who are lavender fans. This flavour definitely has a strong lavender taste, and it is creamy and fragrant too. Not too bad but it was quite sweet to me.
Pistachio : a premium flavour (add $1) and one which I had high expectations for. Sadly, this pistachio didn't have a full, strong, rich, nutty flavour I would expect it to have. It still was quite decent with a fair bit of pistachio flavour but it could definitely use more.
Blood orange sorbet: Personally, I'm not a fan of orange ice creams and this one was a miss for me. The orange taste was quite strong and it was too sour for my liking. Nevertheless a unique flavour too.
Buttery Biscoff/speculoos : I personally found this one quite rich, enjoyable and well balanced but it wasn't the the best speculoos ice cream I have tasted.
Salted honey - this is quite a popular one and I can see why - it was a light, well balanced gelato in terms of sweetness and saltiness, although it isn't the most flavourful one.
Always try the mystery flavour.
I guess I'd order the waffles if I'm hungry just because of the amazing gelato offered here. But for that price, I'd rather order more scoops.
Overall, if you're here for the first time, do try everything out if sampling is allowed. But if not, the Snow Flakes Jasmine, Aphrodite and Bouquet are all must tries here. I'd definitely revisit and hope they open more branches. Not sure how many times I said unique but this would definitely be the best floral, unique, niche ice cream store in SG in my personal opinion.
A quaint nice little cafe in Desker Road, heard good reviews about their waffles and gelato.
Was quite strange it was empty when I visited during dinnertime, I was expecting it to be crowded and probably will have difficulty getting a table.
Being served by 2 nice girls in the shop who ran through the flavours and also recommendations, allowed us to try some flavours before ordering.
There is this interesting flavour where people can try and guess the ingredients used and if correct will be able to get a free scoop of the mystery flavour. Was fun and not easy to guess.
I have to say the waffles is one of the best I have tasted. I really liked how crispy the outer and how soft the interior is. The gelato is also very well done and complemented well with each other.
I liked the pistachio one a lot, was thinking of trying the chocolate with blue cheese but in the end decided to go with a safer biscoff instead.
Perhaps one day will return for that again. Loved the cups they used to serve coffee too.
owner of the cafe was vet accomodating and friendly and passionate about his craft. ice cream was amazing too. 5/5 recommend!
Hmm.. I don't really get the high rating or I was just unlucky. The ice cream was average (I tried the Aphrodite chocolate and Jasmine flavors), waffle was average, service was average and price was not the cheapest ($17 for 1 waffle and 2 scoops).
It's not bad but it's not great either. I personally will not go back as there are better options out there.
Note that parking is difficult around the area.
I visited the gelato cafe, and my experience was somewhat mixed.
The waffles, unfortunately, left me feeling a bit underwhelmed; they were somewhat lackluster.
On the bright side, I did enjoy the black sesame gelato, but the yam flavor was a bit disappointing.
Love the waffles! Crunchy on the outside, soft in the inside. Staff were friendly too, the mystery icecream flavour was fun and engaging. Recommend!
I love how they have a 5 star rating bc they totally deserve it!!
The gelato here is really fantastic. Blue cheese chocolate was a first for me but the two flavours went together really well and the blue cheese bits were the proverbial cherry on top. Also had the best biscoff gelato of my life bc they totally captured the essence of biscoff... it's crazy. Salted honey was also good - not my personal fav but my friends said they couldnt stop eating it lol.
The waffle here is pretty crispy (the waffle is very dark haha but not burnt!) but the inside is soft so that's a good waffle for me.
Anyway the service here is a standout. too The male staff in particular was super friendly in telling us about the flavours, letting us try them (havent been able to try flavours in a looong time - bc of covid?), asking for feedback etc. Thanks for making our visit such a nice one!
The mystery pink ice cream is also a very fun idea haha except I unfortunately have not been able to guess it and absolutely refuse to be told the answer due to a matter of personal pride. But I will definitely be back!! To try again and also to gorge myself on more gelato ofc
Their ice cream is pretty good, it's fresh with little to no shards of ice in them. Their waffles are also fresh and crispy.
The lighting of the place is good however the seating isn't the most comfortable. I recommend going there in groups of 2 to 4.
Chanced upon this ice cream place after our dinner. We didn’t get to try the waffles as we were quite full, but the smell was really great. We had one scoop of ice cream each, the signature Aphrodite (blue cheese and chocolate) and another roasted pistachio. There’s also a mystery flavour and you can guess the flavours (1 tea and 2 flowers) to win a free scoop. Quite cool.
The texture of the gelato is amazing! The lemon sorbet is really refreshing and you can tell they used real lemon to make it. I also like their idea of giving you a free scoop of the mystery flavor if you guess it right after tasting the flavor!
Amazing experience with the staff! Had us guess their mystery flavour and try dried bugs, genuinely a great time spent here!
Had the summer lavender and blue cheese chocolate here today, they are simply amazing! The first being subtle and natural tasting and the second being complex yet it works (blue cheese somehow works).
The male staff today was very hospitable as well and invited us to guess the mystery flavored marked with a "??", winner gets a free scoop. We didn't guess it right but it made this fun trip more memorable.
We had Guanduja and taro.
The blend is great !
Music is lovely and does not over whelm conversations.
Came for the gelato (which was great, highly recommend the aphrodite flavor with dark chocolate and blue cheese), but the true hidden gem was the curated water and gelato pairing program.
Entered a skeptic but emerged with a new appreciation for water pairings. The owner was very generous with his time in guiding us through the different elements of water tasting and how they helped bring out the flavors of the gelato. He also recommended other activities for our stay in Singapore.
Excellent experience with a team that is clearly passionate about what they do. :)
First time. Walked passed before. Good service, great gelato and nice jasmine green tea. This is a pretty new place. Will return.
Nice place to have some gelato, hiding away off the day heat. Interesting flavor, aphrodite, combi of dark chocolate & blue cheese ... I loved it.
Nice tea 🍵, Waffles 🧇 is fluffy and delicious and I prefer Bitter Gianduja ice cream. It would be great if they could serve plain water.
athena was a mild, honey-ish flavour which i liked better than the chocolate hazelnut flavour, though both were nice : )
(-) waffles were a little dry for my liking
($) 2 scoops and a waffle cost us ~$16, which is more steep than the average price elsewhere
Simple ice cream place, lovely decor, ice cream not cheap but well made. Aphrodite flavor not for the faint hearted as it contains blue cheese, and they don't let you try before buying. So don't do it if you're not adventurous about food.
Great place with lovely ambience and friendly staff. Would recommend if you are looking for a nice cafe to spend time with friends/family.
Large portion size, lovely flavors especially Genmaicha that was extra rich , while Salted Honey perfectly balances it out with a light floral taste.
They offer croffles, coffee and specialty tea as well, do give them a visit if you are near the area!
The ice cream we had there was phenomenal : we tried the gianduja, the stracciatella, the taro and the "nuts bout you" (salted peanut butter) flavors. All incredible!!
Gotta shout out the owner who spent a good 30min chatting with us and sharing his personal favorite addresses around the city with us.
It was an amazing moment, please go try for yourself!
The place is small, cramp and air ventilation is bad. The old shop house structure traps the noise and the noise kept circulating into your brain, unbearable for us to enjoy the not so bad wafers.
I read through the 1-2* reviews and I’m bewildered at what could have happened to these unfortunate customers. We’ve been back to Aphrodite 4 times over the last 6 months, and it has been nothing but exceptional every visit. The very last time we went, we were personally hosted by the boss at the bar table.
The ingredients they use for the ice cream are of premium quality. It’s obvious that effort has been put into each flavour, rather than a haphazard selection of boring and/or poorly assembled flavours at other ice cream parlours catering to the lowest common denominators of the dessert-loving population (probably the ones complaining that it’s “more expensive” here or that they don’t allow sampling boohoo 🙄).
And the waffles here are among the best I’ve had in terms of consistency, flavour, and the right about of crunch on the outside and fluffiness on the inside. No weird “charcoal” gimmicks or weird colours or names that appeal to maybe prepubescents. 🤷🏼♂️
I heard news they have some exciting plans coming up for a near-future menu. Keep an eye out for it!
Good late night joint. The ice cream were smooth and pretty rich in flavour. The waffle is crispy and not doughy!
pretty interior! located near swee choon. waffles were on the super crispy side- personally prefer fluffy airy waffles. gelato was nice :-)
IF YOU HAVE NOT VISITED @THEAPHRODITESG, PLEASE DO SO. IT IS MORE THAN JUST GELATO AND WAFFLES. SUPER SMOOTH GELATO, AS IN SPREADABLE CONSISTENCY, SILKY, AND SOFT. LIGHT AND CRISP WAFFLES, OUTSTANDING SERVICE, KNOWLEDGEABLE AND HOSPITABLE OWNER. IT IS WORTH A VISIT.
Pros: opens till late
Cons: no water, small uncomfortable seats, table too low
Icecream flavors were subpar, too much milk and too little of the actual icecream flavors
Interesting flavors and delicious waffles. Blue cheese chocolate and goat cheese, drop by if you are a Gelato flavor adventurer.
Simple yet classy interior.
Wide selection of flavors to choose from.
This is the sister outlet of cloud at Duxton which I chanced upon as I was in the area for lunch. Ordered the waffles with double scoop ice cream. They have interesting ice cream flavours
Coffee was ok, abit too much milk for my liking though. The coffee at cloud is alot better.
Love the ID done for the place - woody wabi sabi feels.
Also friendly service! Check it out if youre in the area.
Keep up the good work and excellent gelato!
Every flavour was amazing!! Tried the salted honey, aphrodite (their house special which was dark chocolate and blue cheese, super good!), snowflake jasmine and pistachio
They also have the mystery ice cream flavour where if you guess the ingredients correctly, the scoop is on the house!
The guy behind the counter was very friendly too, nice cafe to hang out in
Nice ambience. Flavours are interesting, but sadly didn’t guess the mystery flavour right:/ 10/10 recommend hojicha!!
Staff were very friendly and took the time to explain to us the flavors. Gelato was very tasty, I would recommend to try their signature Aphrodite which is a blue cheese chocolate. They also have a fun game where you have to guess their mystery flavor! Can’t wait to come again
It’s located a stone’s throw away from Swee Choon Dim Sum and open late till 2am. There are parallel carpark lots along the street but it maybe challenging finding a free lot. The place is warmly lit and welcoming with simple set ups of tables and chairs.
The lady server at the counter is very patient despite the difficulty communicating with mask on 👍🏽. We did not read any reviews on the flavours before popping by except for seeing the shop’s high rating. So, I asked her to make some recommendations. The two flavours that I’ve taste tested were Biscotti and Blue Cheese Chocolate.
Eventually we settled with waffles, the Blue Cheese Chocolate and Jasmine. I’d say the Blue Cheese Chocolate is very interesting to the palate as you can taste the cheesy flavour within it. However between the two, Jasmine wins hands down as it was so refreshing and light - suited for after meal dessert. The coffee is also decent ☺️.
Ordered a croffles (only available on Sundays), with pistachio and some vanilla cookies and cream thing. The croffles was actually pretty small, leaving us wanting for more.
Recommended to paired with some artisanal water (which I'll try next time).
Customer service was excellent. Nice ambience, happening crowd here
Will come again to try more.
love everything about this icecream cafe! the aesthetic, decor, the smell when you walk in, the coziness and welcoming ambience. I love it! The staff were super friendly and welcoming and the icecream flavours are AMAZING! The icecream is so creamy and rich, one of the best I’ve had. I ordered the salted honey and buttery biscoff, can’t decide which is better, both are top tier. So creamy and flavourful.
great icecream friendly staff!
Great stuff, hidden along the streets of Desker Road along Little India MRT.
Flavours were unique and not the common ones found at other ice cream places. We had the Hojicha & Jasmine with waffles and loved it! I definitely felt the owners of the business invested alot of time & effort in designing & experimenting with their assortment of flavours.
Will be back to try the others; also love they have a ??? flavour which involved engagement with their customers where the correct guess will result in a free scoop.
This gelato cafe situated in the heart of Jalan Besar, a short 5 min stroll from Jalan Besar mrt station is incredibly awesome. They are always experiementing with and churning out new and innovative flavours such as rhubarb, bouquet, pineapple and jasmine snowflakes. My pick of the lot would be Aphrodite, a mixture of dark chocolate and blue cheese. It most certainly has an immaculate taste and is truly one of a kind. They always have a mystery flavour to keep their patrons in suspense and if you guess it correctly, you are entitled to a free scoop. The gelato scoops are priced affordably and their service is also excellent as these guys are very friendly and put their customers' preferences at the forefront of what they do and you can always feel free to voice out your choice. Do show them some love and support if you are in the hood. Keep up the awesome work guys and I definitely look forward to your new creations :)
Chill vibes and good place to hang out. Ice cream and waffles are dam good as well
Love the decor, the gelato goes very well with the waffle, it's not too heavy that it'll make you not want to eat more. You can also ask for different flavor profiles to make you continue eating
Quiet gelato cafe with very friendly and attentive staff and a good variety of interesting flavours.
When ordering your dessert, you can play a minigame where you guess the ingredients of a mystery flavour!
Overall a very pleasant experience would recommend :)
Excellent gelato. Very unique flavours that actually tastes good, unlike some places that try too hard. Friendly and approachable staff that actually bothered to explain the inspiration behind the flavours. 10/10 would recommend.
I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled across this gelato cafe located at Desker Road (Super near swee choon), after having a chat with the owners I found out that all their ice creams are hand-made from scratch including the batter for their waffles. It is really not easy to find such quality Gelato in Singapore these days, will definitely be back for more :)
Nice handmade gelato with some funky flavours!
Great, unique flavours, and the owner takes the time to explain the ingredients in each one! You get to taste the ones you are interested in too. Really nice, clean interior as well, great space to just chill out. Will definitely return!
Friendly and courteous staff.
They have unique ice cream flavours
Had two flavours. Liked the mystery flavour of the day which was chrysanthemum and lemongrass.
Not so much a fan of salted honey which tasted like chilled salted butter
Crispy on the outside, soft inside 😍 awesome waffles and coffee
Absolutely delicious gelato in various flavours!
Nice dessert spot in Central Singapore. To top it all they serve Vegetarian Gelato!!! And kudos for the unique concept of flavor of the month.
Nice minimalistic setup, but the flavour pairings on the gelato offering will surprise you!!
Do pair their Sorbet + Blue Cheese Choco + Croffle!!
Owner cares about his flavours.
Great mix of flavours. Loved the choc with blue cheese. Waffles could be improved though.
Excellent ice-cream!
Unique artisanal flavors.
Ice cream was great and environment is quite cozy too! Walkable distance from Swee Choon as well! 👍🏻👍🏻
Good quality gelato and great waffle
They have in house gelato flavours. The owner makes the gelato himself and advises as well.
Lovely little place with great quality gelato and really friendly staff!
Fancy taste for hand made ice cream. I like it.
They had one of the best Gelato ice cream and waffle in town. Highly recommend for their Pistachio Ice Cream. Service was top notch.
Gelato and Waffle ice cream are very delicious. A place to sit and eat in a relaxed atmosphere.
A perfect place to eat nearby and then have dessert. It has a simple interior and was empty when I visited just after 9:30, but it gradually became crowded with young women. I appreciate that they are open until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
There are many types of ice cream with unique flavors, and the staff will let you try them with a smile. I ordered chocolate ice cream and a $6 waffle, but it wasn't enough for me to finish by myself, so I had to ask my friends to help me out. I wish there were more restaurants like this that were open until late at night.
