Reviews of Birds of Paradise Gelato Boutique (Craig)
No sampling during weekends.
⭐⭐⭐Pandan
Straightforward pandan taste with a hint of bitterness afterwards 🍃
⭐⭐White Chrysanthemum
Sweet ice cream with cocoa nibs (not strong chrysanthemum taste)
⭐⭐⭐⭐Spiced pear
Sweetness from🍐is almost like 🍯. Strong spice kick (cinnamon, cloves, star anise) will taste stronger after had other mild 🍨.
⭐⭐⭐Pistachio (+$1)
High peanut-y 🥜 mildly sweet pistachio. Nice but not recommended for pistachio lovers.
Great spot for an after dinner dessert! Their gelatos are indeed unique with lots of herb-infused flavours. They don’t allow samplings in the weekends, so if you’re looking for a ‘safe’ bet, try the mango passionfruit sorbet or the white chrysanthemum, you can’t go wrong with these two! The white chrysanthemum is a light & aromatic flavour with satisfying cocoa nibs for added texture. If you can, enjoy it in their homemade thyme cones— they’re so good! 😊
Seating space is limited, but you can also enjoy your gelato while having a nice walk around the area 👌
Cool little Gelato spot with very unique combinations of local flavors. We really like what we tried. There was a line most the night I could see it...but it moved quick. Some space to eat inside...but it was crowded with some people standing
I'm so glad we stumbled across this place after dinner out. There was a bit of a line, but it moved quite quickly. The service was awesome, and they allowed you to try different flavours before committing, which is kinda lucky considering they are quite pricey! The range of dairy free options was great, and the ice cream itself was really nice.
We always saw a huge line at the Jewel branch. Hate waiting in line, but the new branch is nearby work place, so we tried it after dinner. It was raining, so not many people were there. We got their chocolate sorbet and were blown away by the ice cream cone cookie! So good with all the spices and herbs. Perfect with the ice cream. Now we get why people line up.
Delicious ice cream! Had the Raspberry lychee and chrysanthemum and cocoa nibs in their thyme cone. The ice cream was delicately flavored and amazing but the cone was a revelation! So good!
Only downside is the place has no seating area per se, just a bench-ish type of section.
I tried the Macadamia Butterfly Pea and it was delicious with the cone! $6.8 for 1. Scoop size was big. But testers weren’t available which is very unfortunate :( no free water either.. They have interesting flavours like Strawberry Basil & White Chrysanthemum.
Their speciality thyme cones certainly add an extra layer to the experience, but it doesn’t suit ALL the flavours, so one must be mindful of that. We would recommend going for scoops in a cup for a cleaner taste. Now that they’ve reopened the seats in the back, it’s a lovely spot to hangout after dinner.
Their flavour chart is also very useful for deciding which to go for should one be uncertain. Our favourites include earl grey lemongrass and vanilla fig.
staffs were extremely welcoming and friendly. offered to let us try samples and was very patient throughout the whole ordering process :) macadamia flavor super nais !!
A nice specialised ice cream shop near outram / tanjong pagar on Craig’s road. Good flavours but I personally prefer the lighter ones
I have a hard time deciding between this place and apiary which is nearby. The only downside here is there is no seating. Only a few standing areas
But otherwise it’s all good. The interior of this place is also very interesting. Minimalistic and resembles a long thin tunnel, and at the end you have their “lab” where you can watch the staff make their ice cream
try one of the ice cream that is happening in singapore. and try the white chrysanthemum flower flavour. it tastes good, especially on a hot day it is very suitable. the cone is also crispy because they make it themselves. it costs S$6 and here is cashless. but unfortunately there are minimal seats here, so it's more suitable for take away
very pretty and cozy place. however there aren't any tables and they have more of a communal sitting area instead which is a unique concept but awkward having to sit with strangers. got the chocolate sorbet and hazelnut and they tasted rich, highly recommend this place
I've been here a few times already, and it has always been packed regardless of the timing of the day.
The majority of their flavors are nice except for some weird combinations. But since they still keep selling those flavors so I guess some people might find them pleasant.
However, the seatings here are the worst, but they don't really care to improve since they will still sell very well despite the poorly managed seatings and store ambiance.
We loved all the 3 flavours: white chrysanthemum, strawberry basil and raspberry lychee. The ice cream was creamy but not overly sweet. They have so many interesting flavours but we could only eat so much. Price was reasonable. Service staff was friendly and quick.
It's almost always a long but fast moving queue at Birds of Paradise. It's a beautifully designed store interior, with very pleasant and patient staff.
I had Osmanthus Pear sorbet, a must-have if your stomach is not fond of lactose. The place was packed with people on a Wednesday evening so we opted to have the desserts outside. A lovely end to a humid night.
Very unique flavor of ice cream . The shop decoration is very unique, minimalist, modern and relaxing . There is seat in this outlets . Located at a cool neighborhood .
as with most of birds of paradise branches, you need to queue first to get a taste of the uniquely delicious ice cream. consistent taste that's why wee keep coming back.
A great place to grab ice cream post-dinner. You can always count on BOP for a good gelato. Tried vanilla fig this time and it hit the right spot. There’s always a long queue but it moves quickly.
- Shop offers you to taste for 2 flavors
- It is quite sweet ice cream
Their ice cream cone is softened. Not crispy and fresh like other branches. Quality is not as good. Not tasting on weekends too even when there was absolutely no one else in the queue except us
Love their unique, one of a kind ice cream flavors.
Queue can be a bit long, but the ice cream never disappoints. The texture, the taste, everything is nice.
White chrysanthenum and Strawberry Basil, 2 of their favorite gelato, gelato not too sweet, i like it.. for 2 scoop in the cup 8 sgd.
We had the lychee raspberry and the hazelnut in a cone. My child loved the hazelnut because it 'tastes like ferraro rocher'. The staff made kid-friendly recommendations which I gratefully took although I missed the awesome chrysanthemum. Quite a busy Sunday evening crowd. We finished quickly & left v satisfied. So glad they opened this branch.
Truly a unique experience. The flavours may sound weird at first but it really works! Strawberry Basil one of their best sellers, the tanginess of the basil blends really well and uplifts the sweetness of the strawberry iskrim. And the strawberry iskrim so pfwaaahhh not Bandungy (which usually happens when the milk content is more than the real strawberry added). Other flavour I tried is the White Chrysanthemum. At first I thought it was going to be either blend or bitter like the tea. But a pleasant floral note. Didn’t give it 5 stars cos later on I realised the girl should have told us if we put two flavours in one cup it’s $8. But we took 2 separate single cup and it was $5 each. The place is small and that day they told us the seating area is under maintenance. Erhm even if it wasn’t, there’s not much of a seating area. And to eat indoor in aircon space in such close proximity in current situation is still not such a good idea. But will definitely come back and take home their other flavours next time.
Great Gelato , not too sweet.
It was very crowded, no seats no table, I still prefer to sit down and enjoy my dessert slowly. Was good gelato when nothing else is open around my place 😂
Was there around 7.30pm to 8pm on a Saturday was surprised they have a long queue already. Seats are limited to most of those queueing are for take away so the queue goes very fast. Liked how their place is designed. Tried their cone lychee raspberry and I loved it! Also bought a pint of white chrysanthemum but yet to try.
Over price for normal ice cream to seat there to eat . I don’t taste any lychee on the lychee raspberry . No tasting for the ice cream either …
Super busy gelato joint. They had unique flavours! Really good, would come back.
i tried it and it was so good 👌! i loved the place, and the staff was great and helpful to chose the right flavor loool ,
Goodd have vegan option chocolate sorbet
Minimalistic vibe, delicious gelatos. Sea Salt Hojicha is a must try, pistachio was great too.
Sea salt Hojicha was good, light and not too sweet, the waffle cone was crispy and freshly made, give it a try !
Premium Gelato. Fantastic taste. Ordered both dark chocolate sorbet and osmanthus pear sorbet, no regrets. Will definitely come again!
Will I recommend this?
What are you waiting for
Best icecream in town
I try pitachio and strawberry basil
Strawberry basil is so dam good. The cone is crunshy and yummy worth to try
The white exterior of the shop will catch your attention when you walk down tanjong pagar road before reaching the tanjong pagar food centre. Amaze to see that it has a great variety of gelato especially unique flavoured ones such as spicy pear, lychee rose and white chrysanthamum to choose from and the decor has a Santorini vibe to it. Has limited seating area for you and your friend to chill while enjoying the gelato!
The flavors option is great. The staff is super friendly.
The only delta could be the cone. The taste of the regular cone was not the best (this might be personal taste only)
Excellent ice cream. Rich, flavourful, smooth and dense! The waffle cones were really tasty and crispy!
Incredible gelatos ,so light and fresh and not very sweet ,feels so healthy can eat one whole tub in one go.
After walking in the hot sun, had ice creams with cones to cool down the body heat. Also had a chance to see them making the cones. Very interesting.
Its Singapores fav icecream shop. I tried macademia butterfly and chocolate..soo good
Had the pistachio and pandan ice cream -- both had ice crystals within them. Pistachio tasted a bit too sweet and not nutty enough I felt. Staff was also perhaps too engrossed in their own conversation to notice that that we were ready to order.
The pistachio flavour was rich and creamy. Loved it.
Earl grey and lemongrass felt like there was a toilet fragrance placed in my mouth. Wanted to go for something light but was not able to give it a try before selecting. Had to take a leap of faith with this one.
Service was very basic. Greeted with a welcome, followed by a death stare by the staff, and when asked if I could try, no trying, followed by silence. Wished I had some recommendations on flavours but its all good. Enjoyed the pistachio nonetheless.
Visited on a Friday evening and queued for awhile (not too bad though)!! Loved the osmanthus pear sorbet, which is not too sweet and really refreshing on a hot night.
Wish the queue was more organised as I couldnt see the end of the line from the door and queued wrongly at first. The place is also pretty small with little seating.
My third time at this outlet! Birds of Paradise is conveniently located near the k-bbq and ramen galore, making it the perfect treat after a hot meal.
Their selection of ice cream houses all kinds of unique flavors, most of which are refreshing and palate-cleansing. I personally enjoyed lychee raspberry served in a cone. Admittingly, the cone did not really blend well with the light flavors of the ice cream. However, by itself, it was absolutely delicious.
Interior-wise: the skinny, curved setting makes for a unique design. While there is a seating area near the back, it is quite minimal. Do make sure to snap an insta-worthy pic with their neon sign before leaving!
the ice cream is good, but there is no place to sit! no tables, no toilet
As good as how many folks had talked about it! Had the pistachio and roasted sesame, and loved them both. Will be back to try the other flavours!
Went in the evening and had not any queue. However, sitting area is under renovation.
One of the tastiest ice cream I've ever tried. Especially the flowery taste ice cream like osmanthus pear sorbet, white crysanthemum (a li'l bit milky) & lychee raspberry is a must try...and please get the cones...It's fresh & uniquely made with thyme...
Always love Birds of Paradise flavours
This is the best gelato in Singapore! Favourite flavours are midnight gianduja (hazelnut + chocolate), pistachio and roasted sesame. Really rich and creamy, and the flavours are unique.
The dark chocolate sorbet tastes exactly like regular dairy ice cream, which is great for me because I'm lactose intolerant.
The ice cream flavours meshed perfectly. Must try - White Chrysanthemum , Strawberry Basil. Unfortunately no place to sit - there are seats outdoor in the park behind. Preferred this place’s flavour profile over Apiary.
I love this new location! This was actually my first time trying Birds of Paradise gelato and I was not disappointed! Was delightfully surprised by the selection of flavours, especially the local ones. MUST TRY is the lychee raspberry and the hazelnut. Had these two together and it was magic.
Many choices of ice cream and service staffs are quite friendly. The gelato is rich and creamy, but not too sweet. Do note that there are no places to sit in this place so you would have to stand around and eat your ice cream. Deco wise is pretty decent, can take nice photos inside.
Icecream can be paired with either a waffle cone or a cup.
$8 for 2 scoops is just enough for 1, not enough to share. Would've given 5 stars if they charged me $10 for 20% larger scoops so that can share. This place is a close second to Sunday Folks, but I'm sure both establishments have avid fans hotly debating which is the best ice cream in Singapore. Is it really gelato, though? The Italians might disagree. Had to take one star off because their "zao pai" cone is underwhelming. But the quality of the ice cream is indisputable.
There are a number of ice cream parlours popping up offering botanical flavours, but Birds of Paradise is probably the original. the floral and herbal tastes in their gelato is not overpowering, and the texture is better than most gelato. do get the thyme cone and save a cup!
Superb gelatos and very unique flavors, must try.
One of my favourite ice cream in Singapore! Their seating area is very small (approx for 3 pairs), but you can enjoy your ice cream at the public park behind the store!
I tried Vanilla Fig just so so in my opinion, and they don't accept cash please prepare.
Good taste of icecream.
Recommended rose lynchee.❤️
Crowded but queuing doesn’t take up much time. Ice cream is as good as usual! Love it! $5 per scoop! All time fav, lychee raspberry and white chrysanthemum must try!
Cozy shop, tasty gelato. Too bad the seats were not ready for sitting yet.
Super yum. More expensive side of gelato but delicious. Had the mint and cacao and was happy there was no bitterness. Yummo.
Great place to hide away from the heat with delicious selection of gelato!
Top notch service and superb ice cream.
Ice cream taste good but mine got hole inside.
Freshly made waffles on-site, not much sitting area like its other branches but flavours are on point
Unique local flavours, the black sesame and green tea/matcha flavours were great! Not too sweet and true
Somehow the ice cream here is a lot sweeter than Katong outlet. Still nice but a little too sweet for me.
Pistachio gelato, highly recommended!
Above average.
Like darkchoco..smooth texture ice cream
Great ice cream - hazelnut for the win
The most unique feature of this restaurant is that the ice cream cones are made on site. The ice cream has many flavors to choose from and the prices are reasonable.
We ordered two balls. The texture was very dense and delicate, milky and full of flavor. We will eat it again next time we pass by.
Suggestion: There is a tree in the area where ice cream is sold, and the leaves are covered with dust. This is very puzzling. Has no one cleaned it?
Delicious ice cream Smooth and fine texture The waffles are freshly made in the back of the shop. The staff gave good advice. Personally, I like to eat pistachios.
There are no seats inside the store. But you can sit in the park behind the store. Shady atmosphere
The ice cream has a unique taste, even the cookie cup has a special flavor, delicious!
1. Strawberry basil has a well-balanced but slightly sweet taste.
2. The white chrysanthemum has a very special taste. It contains bitter chocolate corners (?). The white chrysanthemum is a bit too sweet and will make you feel tired after eating it for a long time.
3. The store clerk is very friendly and the environment is beautiful.
People who are used to drinking sugar-free drinks may find it slightly sweet.
The ice cream is rich and delicious! The store environment is also very good, but there are no seats in the store
Passed several times
I went in to try it this time and thought it was great.
Rose🌹 and pistachio are delicious😋
But the Earl’s was overpowered by the lemongrass flavor⋯It’s a pity🥲
The waffle cone was delicious, and I'm not sure if it's worth waiting in line to eat the ice cream 🤪
The inside of the store is very clean.
The taste was also very delicious.
The price is high.
Unique but comfortable decor
What makes the heart happy is the taste and texture of the gelato
Satisfied
We absolutely adore the pandan coconut caramel flavor, not overpowering n very creamy! my partner also love the masala one! though my vanilla and fig is slightly disappointing, since it's a bit too sweet and the fig flavor is almost invisible! Last but not least, the line up and picking flavor with paying system is bizarre and confusing ,we didn't know whether we should pick flavor first or order first or even where the line is lmao , I would still recommend this place if you're a gelato lover x
