Reviews of EduEdge English & GP Specialists
Before I joined EduEdge, my grades for English was not good. I had troubles understanding different concepts and I had troubles with vocabulary as well. After I joined EduEdge, the first exam I took this year I still did not do very well. Then, my grades in the third exam became good and my parents were happy. I am very thankful to my teachers here at EduEdge and I will for sure continue to practice and work hard for my end of year examinations. If u have any questions or if I do not understand the concepts that my teachers had taught, I will approach and ask them to help me understand the concept better.
I am a Sec 4 student that has recently finished his O Level exams this year (2024).
First and foremost, I would like to highlight the many reviews from students complimenting this tuition. This is because there are many times where the tutors will encourage the students to write good reviews in exchange for bubble tea vouchers etc.
The good part of this tuition centre is that it offers strategies that enforces your basics, gives little homework and has group work which I enjoy. The feedback given by teachers is good too and the teachers are patient. However, there were times where I felt that this tuition came across as too "profit-based". If you would like the teachers to look at your school work, you have to pay extra $$$ after a certain point. In addition, they staggered the teaching of new things through the year so that students would not leave halfway. This led to me not having enough time to revise the recently taught stuff well before my exams.
I would only recommend this tuition if you are a super independent learner who is able to consolidate all your learning well (they are not very structured with their teaching too) and if you lack your basics. If you are looking for a tuition where you can just "spam" practice your essays with the tutor over and over again, this is NOT the tuition for you. This tuition would also NOT benefit you if you join near your exams and you won't see an immediate jump in your grade too.
Throughout the time I've been with Eduedge, despite it being short, I've seen great improvement in my English. The teachers are very helpful and nice plus the group work really keeps me engaged. The different tips shared on how to answer various questions are really helpful and boosted my confidence when taking my exams.
Before I came to EduEdge, I was really bad in comprehension as it was difficult for me to understand the questions. Therefore, I usually scored less than 10 in my comprehension. When I joined EduEdge , the teachers were very nice and helped me. I applied the formulas that the teachers taught and I managed to attain at least a 14 in my secondary school comprehension practices. Not only that, I made new friends in EduEdge, making lessons fun and enjoyable. With EduEdge, my grades had improved significantly! Eduedge has improved my grades from a C6 to a B3! Thank you EduEdge for helping me with English!
Eduedge has made me more confident in my English. I really appreciate all the lessons. I did not regret signing up for this course this year as i sincerely believe that EduEdge will bring my English to greater heights and will make sure I attain a A2 grade for my O levels
Personally, I like how EduEdge gives their students, the opportunity to move about in class. As compared to in school, where students are expected to sit through an hour with full focus. For example, simple activities like going to the white board in groups. This has not only allowed me to regain my focus and energy, but also allowed me to interact with my peers. Although, the EduEdge Centre is different compared to in school, where we are given breaks in between a long day in school. The activities during lessons with EduEdge still gives us the opportunity to make new friends along the way.
The various EduEdge methods, eg SPEAR has helped me understand the concept and requirements in scoring for my English paper. The formulas, EduEdge provides also plays a huge role in allowing me to remember task fulfilments easily. Before joining EduEdge, I used to have a common understanding with many of my peers that English is a subject that cannot be studied. Nevertheless, joining EduEdge changed my perspective! As I am able to learn in greater detail as compared to in school.
Before joining Edu Edge program, i was getting an al 7, but after joining i achieved an al 5. A 2 al decrease. I think that Edu Edge teaches better as teachers allows us to go to the whiteboard and work in teams to write the answers down. I think this helps us to communicate with each other which also improves our oral. Edu Edge teachers also care for students which i like it a lot.
Before I went into eduedge, my English was not doing very well and my school teachers did not really go extreme into the content unlike eduedge, furthermore eduedge also help my by making my revision easier and I could just refer to my notes when revising. After going to eduedge my English started to slowly improve thanks to the help of Eduedge. On my first day after the lesson they also ask me what went well and what I like most, I like the group work the most as I can interact with one another even online I can participate in the group work amd not be left out. Finally, I am thankful of being part of Eduedge and thank you to all the teachers =)
In sec 1 I have always been achieving Cs and after I have joined eduedge I have been improving to b4 and b3s. I feel that eduedge is a very interactive tuition class and offers lots of opportunities to have group work so that we can not only learn from our teachers but from our friends too. Eduedge helps by giving different techniques to different components to the paper and teachers would furthermore explain each step and how to apply it.
The clear and precise methods in which edu edge specialist has taught me for these past few years have been valuable and a steeping stone to achieving my dream grade for o levels. Throughout my secondary school journey, the English teachers have not been as dedicated and passionate to teach the students about the English lexicon. I can truly grasp onto topics and skills required to receive an outstanding grade for my paper 1 and 2 all because of the honorable and loving care that the specialist in edu edge has bestowed onto me. I feel enlightened and a fog being lifted as I now am able to accurately distinguish techniques and word forms to use in my paper 2 comprehension. Thank u edu edge
I have only started last month but the lessons have benefited me tremendously. I use to struggle on my sentence structure and punctuation but after a few lessons I understand where and when to put full stops and commas. Doing group work is the most enjoyable during class interacting with people I don't know and learning from them it also allows me to receive feedback on my answers and how to improve them.
Before i joined edu edge, my english was always like a just passing and getting Bs, but after joining edu edge, my english scores improved by like 3 grades for the following exam. I was unable to pay attention in school during english classes because the lessons were always boring, but edu edge had make me love english more and encourage me to read more books and spend more time on focusing and studying english. Thank you edu edge for this wonderful opportunity
My teachers at EduEdge are very caring towards me if I need extra practice they are more than welcome to give me . When I need help with my work they will always help me . And they will cheer me up when I did not do well for my exams and they will help me analysis my work and where I did not do welll
Before joining eduedge i was lost. I didn’t know where to start or how to start. Through joining eduedge, the teachers guideded me through providing in-depth explanation and sharing strategies on how to improve english. Especially the oral tips and practices, which my school does not provide much opportunities for practice.
I always used to struggle in english until i joined eduedge and scored a A1 for my english from a fail! I was astonished as well as my parents and i really cherish the teaching methods they use that helped me tremendously! i highly recommend for you to continue you journey in eduedge!
Taking English lessons from EduEdge has been transformative for me. The structured curriculum and engaging activities have noticeably enhanced my language proficiency. What I cherish most are the conducive learning environment and exceptional teachers. The atmosphere fosters open communication and camaraderie, allowing me to express myself freely. The teachers' dedication and expertise create an inspiring atmosphere, making every class an enriching experience. Their personalized guidance and constructive feedback have propelled my confidence in English. This supportive ecosystem has not only honed my language skills but also instilled a genuine love for learning and communicating in English.
I love the energy of the teachers and the way that they teach because it makes gp lesson really fun and engaging! Furthermore, learning techniques were really helpful in helping me to understand how to structure my answer well to answer the question properly instead of going off topic.
From joining eduedge for about 6-7 months now (I think), I have learnt a lot from my lessons. My grade for english has always been either improving or becoming worse. However after joining Eduedge, my grade has remained at A1 to B3. Being able to apply what I have learnt such as the different strategies for comprehension, summary and for essays, my grades have improved and I actually met my target for my WAs. The strategies I learnt during the lessons definitely allowed me to understand my paper better. For example, for comprehension, I am able to pick out the relevant keywords needed for the question and identify the question level. For oral, I am now more confident as I know I will be able to generate more relevant ideas in the given time. Eduedge made lessons interesting with group works and I am able to learn a lot more from the feedback given by my teacher after every piece of work. Additionally, my teacher also tells us our strengths and areas for improvement so that we can score even higher. Having lessons with friends also made eduedge more enjoyable and I always look forward to the next lesson. Overall, I definitely think eduedge has helped my english result improve and I am looking forward to doing well for eoy. I appreciate the efforts that the teachers do such as conducting holiday intensive lessons in addition to our normal lessons for us to clarify or ask any questions we have before our examination.
Since the start of secondary school, I struggled with writing, comprehension, oral and listening comprehension. My english teacher in secondary 3 and 4 told me directly that the highest I could get was B3 and that I should aim for it. However, I wanted to get into my dream JC, which required me to get at least an A2 for english. So, I asked around and my friend recommended EduEdge to me. I checked EduEdge’s website and found their “formula-style” method to be interesting and different from other english tuitions. Hence, I enrolled into the GEAR-UP programme and later on IEPC.
In EduEdge, techniques like LET (my go-to technique because it’s easy and simple to remember) and the 6 levels of comprehension questions made writing down answers much easier. The teachers in EduEdge were also more engaging and supportive compared to my english teacher. This made learning much easier.
By following the techniques and strategies imparted by EduEdge, I finally improved from a B4 to C6 range for english to my dream A1 in the O levels. EduEdge allowed me to get my first A1 in English since secondary 3. This grade for English gave me a pretty good chance to get into my dream JC and I am so thankful for Mr Giggs, Mr Daniel, Ms Fatin, Mr Derek and Ms Ariel’s guidance.
To my EduEdge juniors who are seeking to improve their english, listening out for your EE teachers' thought process actually works wonders as you can better understand when and how to use techniques they just taught. Keeping and open mind and trying all the techniques taught to find the one that suits you best is also key to scoring better. RISE assignments are a good place to test the newly learnt techniques! Continue to work hard and have confidence, all will be worth it at the end!
Before I joined EduEdge, I have struggled with English since sec 1 and my grades were always stuck in the C5 range. My paper 1 composition was also a struggle for me as I could not write up a satisfactory story, which led to having many grammar or sentence structure mistakes. I also had trouble understanding paper 2 comprehension formats which led me to not fulfilling the question requirements.
As I was determined to improve my English and get a better grade, I asked my parents for English tuition where I was then enrolled to EduEdge. As I have never enrolled in other english tuition centres, EduEdge’s formula style approach has changed the way on how I learn English.
I feel that the key difference in the teaching methods from EduEdge and school teachers is that in EduEdge, the teachers would actively remind us to apply the formulas when doing the papers which was easy for me to remember and apply during exams. As for RISE, the teachers would give me valuable feedback to improve especially paper 1, whereas in school the teachers would teach us what we need to know and give us practice after practice with a short feedback. Thus, I feel it is not as effective as how the teachers in EduEdge teach me english.
After joining EduEdge, I was able to see the improvement in my grades after each examination from C5 during sec 3 mid year exams to B3 in the N levels exams. Getting a B3 was not what i have expected but I am happy that I am able to qualify for PFP and without the support and guidance form EduEdge, I do not think I would have reach this far.
An advice to my juniors in EduEdge, when doing practices such as school papers or TYS, apply the formulas actively when doing the questions so that during exams you will remember and apply them. Do also take the teachers feedback seriously so that you can improve yourself and avoid the same mistake. I would like to thank Mr Derek and the teachers of EduEdge for the support!
Before joining EduEdge, I was very lost and did not know how to score well for English. At that time, my grades were around B4 standard and since English is L1, I was worried that it would affect my L1R5. However, after joining EduEdge, I feel more confident in doing my English exams and managed to get A2 for my prelim exams. Not only did I benefit from learning the different formulas to tackle different sections of the English exam, but I also benefitted from the help from my EduEdge teacher who was willing to give me valuable feedback to improve. :)
It is fun and exciting so it is easy to be focused. The lessons teaches us about all the 4 components of English. They will let us take advantageous notes and that allows for easy revision. The worksheets are hard but the teachers will help us with the worksheet and enables us the improve. Thus I think Edu Edge is fun and amusing place to learn at.
Hi I have joined EduEdge for around a year. During my end of year examinations last year, I was throughly surprised that my Eng was that best out of all my subjects. I was absolutely not expecting it as I was only in EduEdge for 2-3 months. Since then, I have seen my Eng results grown leaps and bounds and I have been attaining an A1 every Eng exam no matter what was tested. I want to extend my greatest thanks to EduEdge for this success and that it would definitely not be possible without EduEdge! Keep up the fantastic work, EduEdge!
Personally, I’ve enjoyed every lesson EduEdge has to provide. I can see how the teachers are always making the class much more fun and entertaining, through their jokes and even stories. This thus makes the classroom have a much more lively atmosphere. The teachers are always patiently there for me whenever I needed help and goes the extra mile to ensure that each and every student completely understands the knowledge that has been taught
I am a sec 4 student who started lessons in EduEdge in June. Before I joined, I was perplexed by how to find consistency in English because I couldn't see the trends in English questions.
Now, I am better able to understand how to apply strategies and techniques including SPEAR for Paper 1, the 4S technique for Paper 2 and many others. Eduedge supports students through all English papers including oral and listening, not just comprehension and writing.
It is this comprehensive coverage of the syllabus that I appreciate most about Eduedge.
Before the EduEdge lessons , I would struggle through English lessons in school and was unable to understand most of the words that my teacher uses , the words that appears in the questions or passages and sometimes ended up being unable to finish my paper due to my lack of knowledge in English . However after being in the EduEdge lessons for awhile , I am more motivated to learn English and was able to understand and answer more questions quickly and correctly with the techniques provided by the kind and caring EduEdge teachers which made me really grateful and satisfied as I am finally able to finish the paper and get my desired grade . I really appreciate the help and knowledge that the wonderful teachers have given us as I would benefit in the future with this knowledge . English is used by many countries and learning English from EduEdge have taught me the right words and phrases to use so I would not offend or say the wrong words with others and have increased my English skills and knowledge .
i faced a lot of struggles before eduedge, unable to cope with what was being taught in lessons in school, but after joining eduedge, i am able to understand what is being taught and applying it into my exams in school which helped me to see huge improvement in grades. the teachers in eduedge also strive towards bringing out the best in their students while being able to participate actively in a safe environment
When I first joined Eduedge, I had zero interest in english. I thought that it would be the same as most tuition and school lessons. However I was wrong. Eduedge provides formats and strategies, allowing me to understand how to tackle English paper questions better. The constant reminders to take down the methods such as the 4s answering strategy and peer structure into our notebooks really helped me remember those strategies. In school when I do practise questions, I will naturally use those strategies. Comparing my results when I first joined Eduedge and now, I do see small improvements. Thus I am very grateful and under the guidance of Eduedge teachers, I believe that I will soon reach my desired marks.
(Posting on behalf of my daughter, Reanne)
When I joined EduEdge in August
2023, my English grade was a constant grade of AL4. I was facing problems with my comprehension answering as I did not know any techniques which I could use when constructing an answer.
After joining EduEdge, my grades had improved from AL 4 to AL2 in PSLE. I learnt various techniques which my teachers in school did not teach. The teachers were also very friendly and helped me to settle in to the environment easily. One of my favourite techniques were the #4S.
Search, scan, select and structure but my favourite out of all would be scan. It makes sure I read the passage twice so that I do not miss any key information which may be vital to my answer.
Languages have always been my weakest subjects, i simply couldn't understand why I can't score higher when it is literally the language that i commonly speak in. I always couldn't figure out what went wrong in my work. Moreover, i was very introverted so i never dared to question my school teachers about my mistakes. After joining EduEdge in April, i finally had an insight in what my current syllabus was looking for. This allowed me to also have a better understanding about my mistakes and how i can slowly but steadily improve. The resources materials given by EduEdge has also been very beneficial for me. The simple formula method used by EduEdge enabled me to check my work better and consider the many different ways i can express my message better. EduEdge has enlightened me in the wonders of English Language. Now, my motivation levels do not plummet the moment i see more of my English homework. Instead, i see them as opportunities for me to better my language skills! :)
before joining eduedge, i was struggling with english, never making it past the grade B4, mostly due to my essay and comprehension standards. i was extremely concerned because i wasn’t sure how to improve the grades i was getting.
now after joining eduedge, i can with most certainty say that my confidence to do well for english was boosted due to the lessons and resources we were provided with. slowly but surely, i started doing better in english going up to a B3 in prelims!
the formulas given and the engaging activities conducted during lessons was definitely the key to my success for scoring an A in my O levels. i felt reassured before my exam knowing that i had my formulas and techniques provided by eduedge to rely on during the O level exam.
my advice to juniors who join edguedge would be to be consistent in lessons and in submitting homework and to not hesitate to reach out for help, because the teachers at eduedge are kind and very knowledgeable and will surely help you out with any queries. lastly one should improve on themselves based on the feedback given by the teachers for guaranteed success! all the best :)
Before I joined Eduedge, I was barely
passing my English. However, when I joined Eduedge my english has been drastically improving. Scoring a B and sometimes an A. Eduedge has very active teachers that will help you with any English related assignment be it homework or school exams. They have many cheat sheets and summaries which can help you a lot. For example for P1 when writing an argumentative essay, I used to find writing the counter-arguement and rebuttal parpagprah the hardest to write. the Eduedge teachers taught me how to use SPEAR to write my counter-arugment and rebuttal paragraphs. It has made writing an arugmentative essay so much easier and my grades for paper 1 has increased.
What I like about EduEdge is their different methods of teaching and their friendly, approachable teachers. For example, the ASAP techniques, different thinking questions and many more. What I have benefitted from EduEdge's method is the interesting yet knowledgeable way of them teaching. Through their teaching, I am able to have fun and understand the different English answering techniques at the same time. These techniques are easy for me to understand and catch it quickly, which will be able to help me think efficiently during my English Exams. To sum up, I find EduEdge's Method, Teachers fun/interesting, have benefitted from EduEdge's Method in various ways and EduEdge's Method certainly help me in my English exams.
I have benefited from the EduEdge Specialist through how they thoroughly explain many different topics in english, be it our vocabulary, grammar and even the different papers in our examinations. They go through every minute detail so thoroughly that I don't have any questions or worries due to them being answered before i can even ask. Since my teachers in school don't have enough time to properly educate us thoroughly, I have found this EduEdge experience most beneficial.
The unique tips given by my teachers are very informative. The tuition provides engaging and useful activities that helps us tackle our language challenges all while making it engaging for students, both online or offline. During my WAs, I have been able to use the tips and tricks taught, such as structure for answers and the identification of question levels, to my advantage and was able to improve my grades gradually. I liked how the lessons were structured, allowing me (one whom cannot stay focus for a long period of time) to stay focus for the duration of the class. This tuition is one of the better ones I have attended as it gave me strategies and ideas on how to improve my English, instead of just giving me practices to work on. Thus, I appreciate the work the teachers have taught me.
Ever since I joined EduEdge, it was like my English took a turn. A good one, in this case. The Teachers explained all the components visually and verbally in a special way that allowed me to understand it fully. All the notes that I take down during class is super helpful and easy to understand! It will, of course, take time to get the hang of it and understand how to apply these techniques, but once you understand it and can apply it correctly, it makes a big difference! I used to be rather weak in Comprehension Open Ended, but I can see the improvement in myself after joining EduEdge! I love how the Teachers let the students participate actively and weave up interesting ideas to entertain us in class to keep us engaged. It also allows us to learn and have fun like an ideal class!
Before I joined EduEdge, I used to struggle with GP, especially the essay component. This is because I did not know how to structure my essays well and tend to go off topic. I tried to improve by doing more writing practises but I not only still failed to engage the question, my essays also became even more unorganised. Thus, when I saw that EduEdge has many simplified formulas that would ensure a successful essay, I decided to enrol for the programme. They provided essay structures for all the different types of questions that would be tested (‘SPEAR’) and even gave me writing practises that guided me to effectively hone my skills. My teachers often hosted engaging lessons and regularly gave me insightful feedback on how to I could further improve. The content and techniques they taught were unique, methodical and easy to remember. This has enabled me to finally gain confidence in tackling even the more challenging questions. For the paper 2 component, the techniques like 4S Answering Strategy and different answering structures they constructed for different types of questions truly simplified the process and allowed me to answer each question accurately and concisely. The way EduEdge teaches its students effective formulas for a content-based subject like GP truly sets it apart from GP lessons in school or other centres.
With the knowledge imparted by EduEdge, my grades improved from a C in Promos to a B in Prelims. This is because I was able to articulate myself in a more cogent and organised manner while finally being able to engage the question without going off track. With greater confidence and the guidance of EduEdge, I eventually achieved an A in A levels. I was delighted and extremely grateful of EduEdge for being the main reason I was able to improve. Now, my A in GP not only beautified my portfolio, but also gave me an advantage over others when applying for competitive university courses. I urge EduEdge juniors to trust and apply the formulas every single time they do a paper and it will definitely allow you to consistently achieve your desired results. You should treat every lesson seriously as the knowledge imparted is valuable and have proven to bring about great improvements.
Before I joined EduEdge, my English grades were always B or C. Now, it has been gradually improving thanks to the help of my EduEdge teachers. In the most recent exam, I scored an A grade and surpassed my expectations for summary writing (13/15). I like how English can be learned and improved by using formulas, which is much easier for me. Before I learnt these formulas, I had difficulty trying to score well for my English examinations.
i like how teacher derek always engages us during his lesson, making it very enjoyable to be in lesson. i’m also always looking forward to group work, where i’m able to work with different friends to complete a task. teacher derek and ms juel for the win!!!
I am a sec four student who has only joined EduEdge this year, over the past few months, I have deeper understandings on how to answer comprehension questions as EduEdge has provided practices for me. I also grasped the formats for essay writings which allowed me to present my paragraphs in a clearer manner. The lessons are very interactive even though I am an online student. For example, we use google docs to present our answers. This allows me to go back to the google docs any time i want and recap on lessons in the future. The online lessons are also recorded which has greatly aided my learning, especially when I miss out on lessons, I can access the videos anytime I want and learn at my own pace. Overall, my EduEdge experience has been very positive and I have benefited immensely from my lessons.
I am Zanden from S1.4 and I joined EduEdge just a few months ago. During my time here, I have learnt lots of useful and helpful tips from EduEdge teachers such as different strategies for approaching papers. These tips have helped me scored much better marks for my papers and from a AL4 during PSLE, I managed to achieve A for my English papers. Throughout my time here, I had many enjoyable moments and learned a lot of strategies to tackle different papers. I will definitely recommend others to join EduEdge as it will definitely help them in their English tremendously. I hope that my time in EduEdge will continue to be fun, enjoyable and meaningful.
Before I joined EduEdge, I was struggling with my English. English seemed like this big huddle to me that I couldn't overcome. In the past, I enrolled in several different tuition centres for help but my English grade didn't seem to improve. Slowly losing hope, I was still trying my best to improve myself by learning new vocabs and reading more. These advice was given by teachers and friends but it just didn't seem to work. In upper secondary, I came to know about L1R5 which is the points calculated for JC admission and I knew that English would ruin me. Then, my father came to me and told me about EduEdge while scrolling through the Internet. I was surprised when it mentioned EduEdge used formula-based strategies for English. Desperate for help, i enrolled into EduEdge which was my last hope. Before EduEdge, I enrolled into local tuition centres, Mavis and The Learning Lab but they are couldn't help me improve my English grade. Almost all of them were just 2 hours spent on repetitive exercises on editing, composition writing and comprehensions. In school, my teacher also gave us comprehensions and compositions which didnt seem to help much as my scores were not improving at all. Every week, there will be vocab worksheets and editing worksheets in the morning of each day but I couldn't see a clear path of improving my English. The teaching in EduEdge is the best, it is so much better than my school teacher's teachings. However, i do still appreciate and thank my school teachers too. At EduEdge, I could see a clear path of improving my English which is to make use of all the formulas taught. The techniques were simple, understandable and easy to apply. I finally saw hope in improving my English. Although my grades in school tests said otherwise, I remained optimistic and open-minded. Mr Cheng said, "Come to class with an open mind." Despite doubting the formulas due to my school grades, I still focus in class. By following the techniques and strategies imparted by EduEdge, I was becoming better and more concise in my summary writing. Additionally, my compostion writing has also improved a lot due to formulas like PIVEO, ACARPIE, SPEAR and many more useful formulas. In the end, I was able to experience the fruit of my labor, attain an A2 in my O Levels after scoring C5 throughout my school years. With my improved English grade, I have more JCs to choose from without worrying so much. Doing better in English meant that I will never regret getting a bad L1R5.
My advice for those hungry students seeking to improve their English grade is to be patient, to be optimistic and come to EduEdge lessons with an open mind. Although you might not see immediate improvements in your grade in school examinations, I'm sure the best is yet to come. Do all your RISE assignment, apply your formulas actively in tuition assignments and school work and revise your notes. You won't need to look at your notes anymore once you've gotten used to using the formulas. Another thing is to always clarify whenever you need help. EduEdge teachers will always be there for you!
When I first joined EduEdge, my english was very bad. I also did not like English. However, my grades jumped from a C to an A2 after joining EduEdge! It is all thanks to the teachers at EduEdge. The teachers make the lesson very engaging by having debates or activities. They also make us understand the concepts by explaining them very clearly! Whenever I had questions, the teacher would patiently explain until I understood! EduEdge Teachers are very patient and nice! Improving one’s english is definitely not an overnight thing. EduEdge formulas are easy to remember and apply, making studying for exams way easier! Recently, I had my WA3 and applied the formulas taught scored an A2! Thank you Eduedge!!
Before I entered EduEdge, I personally struggled quite a bit because it was almost impossible for my grades to move up. I always scored B4, and if not then C5 and C6. Moreover, I had trouble brainstorming ideas for my essays, which led to me having an extremely limited vocabulary and very low relevance.
Eventually, my mother suggested enrolling in EduEdge as my brother studied in EduEdge. As such, I took up the suggestion.
Before EduEdge, I actually was in another tuition for English, but it wasn’t helping me at all, because lessons did not have any goals of what to accomplish, and classes were honestly quite boring.
Having been in EduEdge, I’m glad to say that EduEdge made me enjoy learning English much more than I used to. The group work made things very enjoyable, and actually improved my communication skills with my peers. I also benefitted since I was able to contribute more in school for English.
The reason for my preference of EduEdge over other tuition centres is the creativity used for teaching. EduEdge uses a formula-based teaching style that makes English more understandable and allows me to work out my questions extremely quickly. Moreover, the teachers there all take up a certain role to ensure classes are fun yet beneficial.
During the O-Levels, I actually used many of the techniques imparted to me, such as SPEAR, and how to assess a question based on a levelling system.
To all of you who want to improve your English, I just want to say that as long as you put in hard work and follow through your EduEdge lessons, you will see the fruit of your labour. If you don’t do well, don’t worry. As Rick Rigsby said, “When you hit rock bottom, rock bottom can also be a great foundation on which to build and on which to grow.” Keep striving for excellence!
The eduedge teachers in my class are very interactive and supportive. even though sometimes we may not get the correct answer, they encourage us. it helps me feel much better after I have not answered correctly. the environment makes learning much easier as I know that no one is judging or going to make fun of me. there is class participation which makes me listen very carefully to my teachers so that I can do the class activities well. The eduedge method of teaching makes English similar to maths. there is a formula that I have been taught and it ensures that I have hit all the points when answering a certain question. the formula method makes it easy for me to learn English.
I am JiaHui from S3.5 and I have recently joined EduEdge this year around April. Since the first lesson, I have picked up skills and knowledge from my EduEdge teachers who are patient and caring towards me and my journey of learning . Every Sunday, I am always excited for lessons and group work as they are way more interesting that my school’s english lessons. During Weighted Assessment periods , I always feel comfortable in asking my educators for help and tips to improve my assessments. I still remember my first lesson with Teacher Joy learning about #CAB-DIO and have since used it in my english homework.
I have been in EduEdge for the past 6 months and I have a completely new perspective on learning the English language. In school, English lessons are not very interactive and I mostly scored C5s-C6s (Sorry English teacher from school...) However, EduEdge provides students with a unique way of learning English which is through formulas and group work. Firstly, the formulas such as "PEER", "SCORE", "4S answering strategy" made revising for English a breeze. No more, "How do I study for oral?", "How do I study for Paper 2" When applying these formulas in school assignments, I scored B3s and A2s. Furthermore, every lesson, some form of group work which allows me to learn from others. In fact, I have used some of my peer's ideas as inspiration when writing essays! Now, not only do I have more confidence during my English examination but also using English in my day to day life.
(I would just like to thank the caring EduEdge teachers who have conducted engaging lessons for me and supporting me through my English learning journey!!)
I joined EduEdge mid-Feb when I was Sec 4. The reason I joined EduEdge was that I would always score C5 or B4 for my English and I wanted to improve before I took my O levels. My main problem was not knowing how to construct an essay. My school teachers would always come up with different structures and it started to confuse me. They would try to expand the PEEL structure but it never made sense to me. Comprehension was also another part of English that I struggled in, especially the narrative portion. My teachers never gave a clear cut way to approach the different questions. When I joined EduEdge, there was a huge impact on me in the way I learnt English. All of a sudden, English became easy to understand and I was confident in doing exam papers as I felt the techniques taught during class were easy to apply. Writing essays using SPEAR and identifying HOT questions in comprehension helped me out the most. Although I felt more confident doing English in school, my grades did not show any improvement. I was still scoring about B4 in my Mid-Year and Prelim exams and I was getting a bit nervous. I was starting to lose hope until one lesson, a senior sent a Whatsapp message to Mr Cheng to show the whole class, a bit like what I’m doing right now, saying that she was having the same problem as I was; not scoring well for her school examinations. But she continued to apply the EduEdge techniques and ended up getting a distinction for English for her O Levels. After reading her testimonial, it gave me the confidence to continue applying the EduEdge techniques in my work. When I got my O Level results, I got an A2 for my English. It felt really good getting a distinction because the last time I got a distinction for English was when I was Sec 3. Thanks to my English grade, I was able to meet the cut-off point for my desired Poly course. To anyone that has problems in English, if you properly apply the EduEdge techniques and listen during class, you will definitely see an improvement in the way you do English.
I have learnt a lot of different strategies in EduEdge like the LET formula which has helped in my improvements in grades. As a matter of fact, my teachers make the class very entertaining by constantly encourages to actively participate in our lessons. They even go the extra mile to help analyse our papers and give us feedback on how to improve on our mistakes.
English has always been a weaker subject of mine. I was consistently obtaining borderline passes and I had quickly given up on studying for English. Back then, I had simply decided to let fate run its own course and focus more on my other subjects.
However, I knew that this mentality would not help me in the long run as English was my L1 subject. I was aware that it was essential for me to do well so as to enter my first choice of a good JC/ poly course.
I quickly began looking for help from my school teachers and local tuition centres. I was sadly disappointed when I received insufficient support from teachers where their ‘feel good’ advice for students was to simply 'read more' and 'practise more'. None of them really focused on explaining WHY I was making those errors and HOW I can prevent myself from making the same errors again.
At the various tuition centres that I previously attended, their lessons were simply 2-3 hours of essay writing and compre followed by the answers being flashed on the screen. I found this to be a waste time and money and promptly quit from the centres. (For those of you who think that centres which simply focus on giving lots of compre and compo are good, think again.)
As time went by with the O levels fast approaching, my English grades were still stuck at C5 and C6. This resulted in me become increasingly desperate to find a tutor who was able to effectively teach me how to fully prepare myself for English.
By chance, when my parents were online looking for an English tutor, they stumbled upon EduEdge with their ‘Formulaic-Based’ lessons, where they taught English using Formulas. Seeing as it was something new and I had nothing to lose, I went ahead and signed up. Since then, I had never looked back.
Compared to the multiple tuition centres I had attended previously, EduEdge is a league above the rest, or even a league of their own if I may say. This is heavily attributed to their formula-style teaching (E.g 4S strategy, ASAP, and PIVEO) which when paired with their step-by-step teaching approach - which can elevate any attentive students’ English grade by multiple levels.
Another unique positive quality I found in EduEdge was the detail the tutors put into marking the essays submitted by students. Every sentence of an essay was carefully analysed, before comments for improvement were given as well as a final grade. The marking is so detail, that by incorporating everything the EduEdge Tutors comment about in a single essay, students can improve their standard of writing tremendously.
Due to the hard work and dedication of myself and the EduEdge Teachers, I was able to improve from a C6 to an A2. A massive 4-band Improvement!
To all my juniors who have their N/O levels coming up: If you wish to attain that Distinction, it is very simple and definitely possible. All you have to do is complete the RISE every week and submit all essays. Incorporate all formulae taught to you and act upon the comments given by the EduEdge Teachers on your essays. Make sure you do not commit the same mistakes again for your next essay! Most importantly, if you have any doubts, don't be afraid to ask!
After successfully improving my english grade from C6 to A2 by attending lessons at eduedge during my o levels, i knew this was a centre i could trust with My A level results.
As time went by with the A levels fast approaching, my GP grades as expected steadily improved. This this was entirely due to EduEdge's ‘Formulaic-Based’ lessons, where they taught GP using Formulas.
Due to the hard work and dedication of myself and the EduEdge Teachers, I was able to improve from a E to an B! A
Eduedge is more than a tuition centre. It is a group of hardworking and dedicated teachers coming together to aid all students in Singapore with English. Before joining Eduedge, my English was very poor. My grammatical skills were appalling, and my compo writing was not up to my teacher's standards. Enrolling on secondary school made it worse. With much more complex grammar rules to follow, I could not keep up. Things were made worse in secondary three as my English teachers kept changing. The two teachers had their teaching styles that made it much more confusing.
I heard about Eduedge through my friend, who has been going here for four years. I thought Eduedge was like any other tuition and school, with the teachers giving worksheet after worksheet to do, without any success. However, after being in Eduedge and being taught by Ms Juel and other amazing teachers, my confidence grew tremendously. Being taught techniques like SPEAR, FATCORP, 4S answering strategy, ROCS and many others made it easier for me. These techniques made it easier for me to write concise answers for my comprehension and allowed my ideas to flow smoothly for my compo.
Eduedge learning techniques are the best in Singapore. The teacher's comprehensive support and mastery of this subject made me push myself to do well. Getting a B3 for my prelims was a huge improvement for me, and I felt that Eduedge was a huge part of my improvement.
The best part about the whole experience was the teachers overwhelming support, enthusiasm and optimism in wanting to help me which made it very inspiring. The Examedge booklet was another factor in my improvement, with so many compo, compre and oral exercises to do and concrete answers. It is a great tool! As I am in the NA stream, PFP was the quickest option to get into a Poly, and I did. It was all thanks to eduedge.
To all juniors and seniors, no matter how much help the teachers can give to all of you, it is up to you to want to do well and achieve your goals. Getting a C6 in SA1 to an A1 for N levels may seem impossible, but with the right mentality, it IS possible. To Mr Cheng, Ms Yue, Ms Juel, Mr Amos and the rest of the EduEdge teachers, Thank you for your help. Your love and dedication is truly inspiring :) Also to all students, remember to do your RISE, listen to the teachers and keep pushing to achieve your desired grades! To all the sec 3 taking their O and N levels next year, good luck!
I joined EduEdge after my Secondary One Mid Year Examinations where I scored a C6 for English. (I barely passed oops). Getting a C6 was a wake-up call for me as I know that English is a very important subject be it in secondary school or the future. I knew that I needed to do well in it to get promoted to secondary two and even get into my dream junior college. Coincidentally, I managed to chance upon EduEdge on the Internet and was convinced by the testimonials from the previous batches of EduEdge students! I was inspired by their Eduedge stories and was hoping for a miracle to happen to me just like how it happened to them. In hindsight, this was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in the four years of my secondary school life. Now, look at me! I'm currently writing this testimonial to share my story to inspire my juniors.
After coming to EduEdge, my grades have tremendously improved from a C6 to consistent B3s and an occasional A2. My improvement has been attributed to the efforts of my Eduedge teachers. They are very approachable and patient when it comes to teaching us. I really appreciate the fact that they are also very open to answering our questions be it online or offline. EduEdge teachers are extremely dedicated and passionate about what they teach. One thing about Eduedge that stands out from other English tuition centres is that they adopt a more formula-based teaching approach whereby students are equipped with specially curated formulas to tackle examination questions with ease! For instance, instead of the rigid PEEL structure taught at most schools, formulas like SPEAR, FATCORP, SPOTVCD, and the 4S Answering Strategy are being taught here at EduEdge! A formula that has significantly helped me in my O level paper two summary is “IRE” :-)
English has never been my strong suit. In fact, I was consistently relying on my Higher Chinese for my L1 in my L1R5. However, things took a turn during O levels! I miraculously scored my first A1 in English! I was more than happy. Looking back, I honestly couldn't have done it without the help and support from the EduEdge team. I really appreciate all the EduEdge lessons and Power Revision sessions. (A big shoutout to Teacher Derek, Teacher Jian Hung and the rest of the EduEdge family! Thank you for supporting me throughout my English journey.) Having an A1 in English has enabled me to achieve a better L1R5 score to get me into my dream junior college.
To all my juniors who would like to improve their English: I would like to advise you to simply trust the EduEdge learning process. I vehemently believe that all of you are in the good hands of our dedicated EduEdge teachers. Remember to always complete your RISE homework on time to receive detailed feedback from the teachers to improve your language! However, do note that English isn’t something that can be mastered in a day or two just like how Rome wasn't built in a day. The mastery of the English Language ultimately boils down to your efforts and hard work. Pay attention to all lessons and jot down important notes when necessary. Most importantly, remember to consistently apply the “formula-style” techniques that were taught by our dear EduEdge teachers. Confucius once said “The man who asks a question is a fool for a minute, the man who does not ask is a fool for life.” Hence, please do not feel afraid or shy to approach our friendly Eduedge teachers whenever in doubt! Lastly, I strongly advise you to not belittle the importance of English. It is one of the key subjects required to get you into your desired jc/poly course. Having said that, I sincerely wish all of you nothing but the best for your N and O levels! Nothing’s impossible. Even the word “Impossible” says “Im-possible”. There is no doubt that the journey to success will be an arduous one but trust me, your efforts will pay off just like how I’ve improved from a C6 to an A1 from Secondary One to O levels with the help of the Eduedge team! Jia you ☻
For majority of secondary school students, English would be the most important subject in school. This is due to the fact that no matter whether we want to go to JC, Poly or frankly anywhere, majority of us would need to use it as our L1 subject. Hence I found it rather disappointing to only score a C6 during my first few exams in Secondary 1.
My mother actually found out about EduEdge from a Sunday Times Article about how EduEdge was founded, this was also where she found out about EduEdge’s formula method! We found it to be a more “logical” approach to tackling English and thought it could help improve my English grades, hence we decided to give it a shot. Enrolling me into EduEdge about mid Sec 1.
I used to think that English was a hit or miss kind of subject, solely based on the difficulty of the paper and luck. However EduEdge showed me that using their formula methods, english could be studied just like any other subject! Additionally, I found EduEdge formulas to be much more in-depth, helping us in the thinking process. For instance, in schools we are taught formulas like PEEL and PAC, whereas in EduEdge these are extended to PIVEO, SPEAR and FATCORP. Personally, I found the formulas the formulas make their respective components easier and less daunting.
Over the years at EduEdge, I’ve gradually seen improvements, especially in Sec 4 where my situational writing jumped from around 15-18 to 20 and above from mid years onwards. Additionally, on my first oral exam (in sec 4 ) I managed to obtain a solid 27/30! This allowed me to attain my first A in secondary school, an A2 for prelims! Subsequently for the o levels, I similarly attained a A2! Honestly, I didn’t really expect myself to attain this grade, hence I would like to thank all the Teachers who have taught me at EduEdge for making all this possible and pushing me further than what I myself felt was my limits!
Finally, to my juniors, don’t feel discouraged if you aren’t immediately seeing results you want! EduEdge has shown me that English isn’t a overnight thing, hence I’d highly encourage y’all to continuously apply the techniques imparted to us during our EduEdge Journey! Keep practicing, applying the techniques, actively participate in lessons (+ doing R.I.S.E. ) and I believe one day we will all see the fruits of our labour! Also, don’t forget to read and work on the extensive feedback that our EduEdge teachers give us when marking our work!
Wishing you all the best in all your future exams! :D
Before I joined EduEdge, I was constantly struggling with both writing essays and answering comprehension questions as I was unsure of how to expand my ideas in writing and how to approach the different question types for comprehension. It was extremely demoralising for me whenever I saw that my results weren’t reflective of the effort that I was putting in to score well in English as I was always in the B/C range. English is a subject I enjoy studying for and eager to do well in so as to use it as my L1 in O Levels, which led me to enrolling in EduEdge.
I wasn’t scoring well for Situational Writing before joining Eduedge as I kept lifting details from the visual, which resulted in me lacking original ideas in my body paragraphs. However, EduEdge taught me the skill of asking myself thinking questions to include original ideas easily in my paragraphs, as well as FATCORP, which are skills I find extremely useful and easy to apply.
Expository writing used to be one of my weaknesses but after applying the techniques that I’ve learnt at Eduedge, such as varied sentence openings and the SPEAR structure to fully develop my body paragraphs, it has made argumentative writing much more enjoyable for me.
Applying close reading to selective paragraphs, asking thinking questions and annotating while reading the comprehension texts was effective in helping me to predict the possible questions that may be asked. Understanding and being able to identify the different comprehension question types has helped me to be able to approach the questions better and structure my answers.
The learning resources and cheat sheets provided at EduEdge such as the SPOTVCD and Spoken Interaction cheat sheet were of great help in Editing and Oral, which were areas that were often not covered in depth by my teachers in school.
I also appreciate that the teachers at EduEdge always put in their best to give each student personalised feedback through the RISE that we submit, which were extremely helpful in identifying the areas that I can work on in order to improve. The techniques taught to us at EduEdge are easy to remember and apply, which are definitely effective and allowed me to achieve an A2 for English in the O Level examination. I used to think that English was a subject that cannot be studied, but thanks to what I’ve learnt from my teachers at EduEdge, I can now prepare for my English exams and feel confident while entering the exam hall!
To my juniors at EduEdge, I hope you all will be able to enjoy English as a subject just like how I did and put in your best to do well in it by submitted your RISE on time and listening attentively in class, as it will help you to master English, which will definitely be beneficial for you in the long run!
In my humble opinion, I like the caring, kind and enthusiastic environment of EduEdge most. In school and in my previous english tuitions, I had little to no interest in studying english as I felt that it was a boring and useless subject. However, after joining EduEdge, I have gained a newfound appreciation for english and have grown to love it more. With the various extremely useful skills and techniques that the knowledgeable teachers at EduEdge have imparted on me, I was able to boost my grades from B4 to A2 in just a couple of months. I will most definitely continue to use these techniques and skills in higher education and in the future.
I like that EduEdge (EE) has a unique way of teaching students how to learn English. For me learning English is quite boring because I just sit there a listen to my teacher talk, but in EE the teachers engage us during lessons and I find the Formula method teaching very helpful.
What I learned in EduEdge (EE) helped me alot in my examination as i was failing my English exams before I came to EduEdge. I learned many techniques to write and many different ways to make my writing better. Now my English has gotten better. I got good results for my recent English paper and I am happy that I came to EduEdge.
In school, the notes that they gave us for English were messy, vague, and often contradictory to each other. Thus, they left me with even more questions to be asked. Our teachers’ attention was also divided between many students at once, thus making help more difficult to get. So, I resorted to self-studying from assessment books and guide books, but it turned out not very effective for me. As I wanted to score an A1 in my English O-level examinations, I knew that I had to get more help, leading me to enrol into EduEdge. At first, I felt amazed, as well as slightly overwhelmed, as I never knew that the subject could be taught so in-depth and detailed. The teachers at EduEdge really do their best to make sure that I leave every lesson with more confidence and useful knowledge. For example, easy-to-remember acronyms, or “formulas”, that they taught us like FATCORP and SPEAR were essential in making sure that I always turned in a good piece of work. Closer to the O-levels, they also imparted time management skills, as well as plenty of motivation and advice to us so that we would be more than ready to take on the papers. In the end, I was able to improve my grade from a B3 to an A1 in half a year, which has helped me to achieve a score low enough to get into my dream JC.
To my EduEdge juniors and students who want to improve their English, it is important to consistently work on this subject if you want to improve in it. Remember that it is not the gold medal that makes the athlete great, but it is the hard work and training that he has endured in order to succeed. Having a growth mindset is also key! All the best!
English language had always been a subject that I worried about in my upper sec years. I was constantly puzzled on how I can improve my english grades and what I can do to score better marks. It wasn’t like math or science where improving in the subject was seemingly easier. Determined to improve my english grades, I decided to enrol in eduedge, which was a tuition centre I heard from my classmates. Eduedge has helped me to improve my english grades drastically. Personally, I find that the constant feedback that i got in terms of how to improve my writing technique and the answering structures for the various type of comprehension questions were really useful. I also got a clearer idea on how to study english, that it was just like other subjects. Referring to the summarised notes for oral, editing and comprehension before stepping into the exam hall was really helpful too! Thanks to their dedicated teachers who put in their utmost effort, I have improved from a C5 to an A1 in o level. To those who are still struggling with english language in eduedge, do not be disheartened! Improving in english is definitely a process and will not happen overnight. If you are in need of feedback for your essays or have any doubts that you want to clarify, do not hesitate to approach the eduedge teachers! All the best for your exams this year :)
I like how the method or techniques applied to the answering english paper questions are more unorthodox yet easy to follow. I believe that the mnemonics and structures that the teachers make us use can make it easier for me to unpack, understand and answer questions. For example, the SPEAR structure for argumentative questions allow me to put my point across without making my essay seem a jumbled jigsaw of ideas. It helps me increase my marks scored in paper 1, jumping my grades from a b3 to a high a. Going forward, these techniques can help me answer my future english questions.
I am Lin Jia Xuan from S1.2, and have joined for half a year since July 2019. Before I joined EduEdge, I was doing okay for my English. I was scoring a low A in primary 6. However, after joining EduEdge my grades improved to a mid A and sometimes a high A, in the range of 77 to 85. For instance, for my comprehension open-ended, I managed to improve from 10/20 to 16/20. The increase of marks for this component, was due to the techniques taught by EduEdge 3(S) Answering strategy. This technique helped me to better understand the passage and the questions.
I faced many difficulties with English. I was constantly scoring below 40% for Paper 2 and either failing or barely scraping through with just a pass for Paper 1.
It was only during Sec 4 when my parents signed me up for EduEdge, as they were worried about my upcoming 'O' level exams. They did not want a poor English grade to pull down my overall L1R5 score.
Before EduEdge, I had never joined any other English tuition. This was due to the fact that I believed English was a subject that could not be studied, unlike Mathematics or Science.
However, in Eduedge, the methods and way of thinking that were taught had proven me wrong. The detailed explanations of methods and reasons for mistakes were easier to understand than the explanation give by my teachers from school.
The EduEdge teachers also gave me detailed feedback on the work I had done. This helped me realised the persistent careless mistakes which I were making and how I should go about correcting them, and avoiding them the next time round.
With the dedicated support of the EduEdge teachers, I managed to break out of the vicious cycle of 'C's and finally scored an 'A2' for my 'O' levels. My very first Distinction!
My advice to other students wishing to score better for English: Pay close attention to mistakes highlighted by your EduEdge teacher. Do not neglect any feedback given for your work. When you act on the feedback and commit to not making the same mistakes again, that’s how you will improve consistently! All the best!
I am Saw Keedoh Marcus from S1.1, and I have joined for 7 months, starting lessons from May 2019. Before I joined EduEdge, I wasn't exactly good at English, making common mistakes even though I have been repeatedly told not to. Furthermore, I would usually write off point for my compositions, sometimes not even addressing the topic. This led to me regularly failing or barely passing my Paper 1.
When I joined EduEdge, however, my English steadily improved as I learnt new formulae to use in my test papers. By Prelims, my grades improved from a mid-B to a mid-A! I also learnt how to improve my composition writing, as well as my comprehension skills. For PSLE, I got an A.
For comprehension, I used the 3S strategy. Using these techniques helped be bolster my marks,as well as my grades. Additionally, the positive experience about EduEdge is the buddy system. We can interact with our classmates to do or work, which is better than working alone.
EduEdge has definitely helped me in improving my grades and I am thankful for that.
I remember the first time I went to EduEdge. I had a mix of feelings which mainly consisted of nervousness and anxiety. However, upon reaching EduEdge, 2 things helped to reduced the negative feelings. Firstly, I realised upon reaching that one of my classmates was my school classmate. That helped to reduced the negative emotions. Secondly, the friendly and enthusiastic teachers were very helpful in helping me counter the negative emotions. I would like to give a special thanks to teacher Derek who was especially kind and caring to me when I first joined. He was super kind and I could easily carry on a conversation with him as I would with a friend. However, I feel that all my teachers are as important and I am grateful for such great teachers.
Before joining EduEdge, I was afraid that improving in GP would be difficult because I had no other resources and didn't know what I should start with. The lessons provided allowed me to gain personalised feedback so that I know what I should work on. Additionally, EduEdge teachers would revise contents taught last lesson and share techniques that help tackle questions.
I have always doubted the formulae way of doing English and was a little uncertain when I first heard of using formulas to solve English questions. However as I continued my journey here in EduEdge, I realised that using formulas gave me a clearer view of how I face English questions. I love how that the formulas used and teaches at EduEdge is very applicable to doing questions which is great. Additionally, applying formulas is quite fun when you get used to it :D Before learning the formulas, I was so bad at doing English and solving questions. Ever since learning them, I have become somewhat better at getting a bigger picture on how to solve questions easily. Moreover, the conducive environment here at EduEdge gives of a positive learning space for students to learn effectively which is a great addition I have gained a lot of knowledge even though I just joined EduEdge this year. Teachers are always caring for us students by helping us out on things we want to clarify as well as outing in time and effort to help us. They also support us and encourage us to do our best!!! I love how encouraging everyone is at EduEdge. Using the formulas are also easy to apply after the many reiterations and reminders Teachers enforce on us , which allow us to do better in examinations. Hence, I love EduEdge and have benefitted from it a lot!!
I like the Eduedge’s programme as it has fun and engaging Teachers to lift up the mood during lessons, in contrast to lessons in school where Teachers read off the slides and are not well-versed in the English language and do not recognise a wide range of vocabulary. The methods I have learnt, especially for English Comprehension has helped me to better understand the passage, but I have not be scoring well still because of my school’s strict marking scheme, so I am unsure as to when to use Eduedge’s method, or my school’s method. (I am scared that if I only use Eduedge’s method for my o levels, I will not be well prepared enough—trying a new method at the last minute seems very risky). I like the new change of the format (materials are given in booklet form, so that I can note take in the booklet itself. It is rather troublesome to read from the notebook, and refer to my materials because there is no space to annotate. The booklet also makes it easier for me to find my materials and I do not lose my worksheets/materials as easily. One improvement I think would be great is to have clearer overview/summary of the lesson at the start and end to make it clear which component we have learnt/key focus of the lesson for that day. Additionally, maybe have a vocabulary of the day? So per lesson, we will learn an additional vocab to apply on our compo/essays.
Compared to other tuition centeres Eduedge has an inclusive and constructive approach to teaching English. Whilst other centres and schools dump tons of pointless practice papers on students, blindly believing that practice makes perfect, the coaches at Eduedge have compiled systematic methods, which are like formulas, helping students hit their desired English grade. Not only does this formula like method pave a straightforward road to success, it allows students to fully understand the mistakes they're making and how to tackle them. Personally, Eduedge has helped me clear all the uncertainty around continuous writing. It used to be an insurmountable obstacle until I started following these 'formulas'. It was like unlocking a number lock, except knowing the exact pin code rather than repeatedly striking it with a rock, praying to make some progress. It was that easy! It allowed me to finally clinch that A for English and ultimately improve my language as a whole. Knowing that all my coaches and friends I've made here would be behind me was a big confidence booster. I can't imagine how much I'd still be struggling without Edu Edge.
I have always thought scoring well in English depends on your luck but EduEdge have proven my thoughts wrong. Before joining EduEdge, I have never scored above a C-Grade in my entire secondary school life. After seeing such poor consistent results, demotivation and demoralisation were the two things that have made me dislike the subject English. I have heard many teachers and friends ,who does well in English, suggested to read books to improve my language and will result in my grades improving. I have went to many tuition centres across my 3 1/2 years in secondary school but none could help me push my grade to a B or even an A. Getting the same advice on how to answer questions and how to improve my language but nothing has changed. Results were still stagnant and on the border line till my group of friends, who were studying in EduEdge, recommended me to join EduEdge and give it a try. They too have given me their life stories in EduEdge and have shown their improvements. That’s when I decided to give it a try and entered EduEdge in early August ,whereby my O’level examination was 2-3 months away. I have entered the normal class and the Intensive Exam Prep Course to maximise my learning in English and hopefully get the grade I aimed for which was a B3.
The strategies ,such as FATCORP and many more, taught to me by Mr Cheng ,in the Intensive Exam Prep Course, and also through classes ,taught by Ms Jan Va and Ms Eunice, really helped me boost my confidence for English. With the strategies taught by the teachers, I have applied it during my O'level examination and got a B3 for my English. Thanks to the teachers in EduEdge, I was able to achieve my goal. My advice to the graduating cohort would be to actively take down notes and listen to the teachers teaching. Use the strategies taught in your daily practise and exams and I am certain your goal will be achieved. I wish the graduating cohort all the best for their O’ level.
I’ve always thought that English was a subject that I couldn’t study for. Therefore in Secondary 3 and 4, I did not put effort into trying to do well for English as I believed that nothing I do will allow me to improve, especially since I have never scored better than a B for English in secondary school.
When my parents found out about EduEdge and their way of teaching English through formulas, it made me decide to enrol into EduEdge as being able to have effective techniques to apply in exams really appealed to me because these formulas and techniques gave me something that I could actually revise and prepare for to improve my English grade. Not being able to score good grades for English was already a big concern by March in my O Level year as I realised that I would have to do well for my English to get to a JC of my choice. However, I wasn’t confident initially because I thought that as I joined the class late, I would have too much to catch up on, but the teachers there made sure to always recap on all the techniques they had taught and that really helped me.
EduEdge helped me to approach my EL papers differently. Before I joined EduEdge, when I was doing comprehension, for example, I would just write down whatever answer seemed right to me as my school teachers did not go through much on how to tackle the question. However EduEdge taught us a step-by-step process to answer every type of question that I could apply in my comprehension, and that improved the quality of my answers. By the prelim exams, my grades improved significantly to a B3 followed by an A2 for O levels, which is a stark contrast to the C5 I attained at secondary 3. I am very grateful that I am now able to apply to a JC of my choice.
My advice to the graduating cohort is to make good use of the notes taken down in classes, and before doing any piece of work, go through them and make sure to practice applying the techniques. With enough practice, you will definitely be much more confident during exams and definitely do much better!
What I like the most in EduEdge is how the teacher teaches, teaching the key points and what to observe, formats, key to answering questions, types of questions, the main points and weakness of most students and explains more of them, etc. I’ve benefitted by applying the methods taught on my school work assigned to me, and of course my examinations. What I’ve learned in EduEdge could help me to speak better English to people around me, making more sense. In general, EduEdge has helped me understand the requirements of the English syllabus and I am now more confident of achieving higher marks for my English Language paper.
During secondary school, my english grades were below average. My report card is filled with mostly As, except for English. I would u usually get Cs and low Bs for english and that was worrying. I wanted to go to a good jc and knew that I had to include english in my L1R5. There was no escaping English.
I tried to make the most out of the little resources my english school teachers gave me, but to no avail. I put in my best effort but was unable to reap the fruits of my labour. Getting a distinction for english o-levels felt impossible and I was on the verge of giving up my dream to go into a good jc.
My parents decided to help me pull up my english grades by enrolling me in Eduedge. I joined eduedge when I was in primary school, and this promising tuition centre helped me achieve an outstanding A for English PSLE. When I got into Eduedge, I thought the online lessons would be a hinderance to my learning and felt that it was not going to be as effective as physical lessons.
But I soon realised that online lessons were just as effective and I began to work harder and be more diligent. I re-joined eduedge in secondary 3 and from a few months, I was beginning to see a change in grades. My grade improved from C6 in Weighted Assessment 1 to C5 in my Mid-Year Examination. I started to be more hopeful and continued to be more diligent.
The eduedge techniques taught are unlike anything I have seen in school. Being a more systematic person, I thought there was no way english could be fun or interesting. But Eduedge's acronyms and formulas for every paper component proved me wrong. In my prelims, my C5 turned into a B4. Slowly, I was beginning to have faith in myself and I continued to take down notes and memorise all the eduedge acronyms by heart. They broke down the papers into bite-sized parts which were more manageable to answer. They gave me a structure and a plan instead of aimlessly trying to come up with an answer.
During the o-levels, I applied all the eduedge techniques for all 4 papers and was anxiously waiting for my results. On 12 January 2023, I received my results and got a shocking A2 for english! My parents were proud and I was proud of myself.
Getting this A2 was not easy, but it was definitely worth it! Now, I'm able to achieve my dream of going to a good junior college!
English for me has always been the subject whereby I faced the most contradictions in terms of the content taught by my Teachers. I have always averaged a B in my exams and felt that I needed that extra push to elevate my standard of the English Language, so as to have a higher chance of me entering my dream JC. Eduedge, being a renowned tuition centre, was recommended to me by a senior. The moment I was exposed to the teaching styles of Eduedge, i instantly felt a tremendous difference. In the past, I did not realise that one could actually incorporate formulas into learning English, to make learning English much simpler than before. Formulas like S.P.E.A.R may seem simple, but they helped me for my Composition and Oral. I personally feel that Eduedge does actually have an edge over other tuition centres, due to the comprehensive preparation of their students for the national exams. For example, there are Power Revisions held for students to relearn and rekindle what we have learnt during the entire Eduedge year so as to allow us to enter the exam hall with a complete understanding of the formulas imparted to us by our Eduedge Teachers. The most helpful part I felt, was the personalised and detailed feedback given to us by our Teachers. Each of those feedback gave us precise details about our Area For improvement, which could lead to a more targeted correction of our misconceptions. This unique approach taken by Eduedge has enabled me to excel and improve my standard in English and achieve an A2. My advice to the students seeking to improve their English would be to just internalise and understand the Eduedge structures. It may be confusing at first, but if you put in the effort, even under exam conditions and you blank out those formulas would just come back to you. Always believe in yourself!
English had always been the most difficult subject for me. I was excelling in all my other subjects but English was the ‘wild card’ that could potentially pull my L1R5 score down.
Before joining EduEdge, I felt that getting a good English grade involved more luck than skill, especially for expository writing. It didn’t help too that even my school teachers had many complicated and non-consistent ways of teaching, which was extremely confusing for me. Moreover, my school teachers always did not seem to put in much effort while teaching us. I knew I had to find help.
After joining EduEdge, I was pleasantly surprised that the techniques taught were not only easy to understand, but they were effective as well. To illustrate my point, look no further than the SPEAR formula. This formula allowed me to successfully plan my arguments in a clear and concise manner, while giving my essay a fantastic structure. I truly believe that for any student who pays full attention during Mr Cheng's class, getting a Distinction for English will be within arm's reach.
Fast forward to the O levels, I was overjoyed after receiving my results.
Being stuck with C5s all my years in secondary school, a Distinction for English at the O-Levels was simply amazing! With an English Distinction, I now have a much more competitive L1R5 score! I was pleasantly surprised that I was even able to enter the prestigious Raffles JC! Thank you EduEdge for making all this possible!
English has always been the greatest obstacle for me in Sec sch. I wasn’t eligible for PFP after my N lvl due to my English grade despite scoring EMB3 of 8. initially I was unsure about going to Sec 5 as I was afraid of failing English again but in the end I decided to just give it a try.
i feel that the gap between N’s and O’s English is quite huge and was pretty challenging for me. I scored a D7 at the start of the year so since then I realised I really need extra help in English so my parents found me a 1to1 English tuition. Sadly, it wasn’t helpful at all after almost 5months of tuition with the teacher and I was still failing English. All she does was asking me to memorise new vocab words. When I asked her how can I improve my comprehension she even replied to me that she can’t really help me with comprehension, she said it’s all about understanding the text. I feel so hopeless like after that.
But I was glad that I found EduEdge and be able to enrol in the programme. The Teachers are really caring and helpful towards their students. Knowing that I was a new student, they will constantly check on me to make sure I understand the lesson. I really benefited a lot from all the lessons I’ve in EduEdge. the techniques and strategies especially for the expository writing help me a lot. I remembered using the techniques and strategies for the first time during my prelims, I scored pretty well for my paper 1 and oral especially and I finally pass my English although it’s still a C5.🥲
What’s special about EduEdge is really the clear steps and techniques taught by the Teachers because those steps and techniques really works and helps in me tackling the comprehension and expository writing. I was able to think better and craft better answers.
because it’s only left with 4 months till O’s when I joined EduEdge, so I knew that I have to put in extra more time and effort in English. I also watched all the recorded e-video lesson so that I’ll be able to catch up. I was able to learn things that I’ve missed in those e-video lessons which was extremely helpful.
With the constant guidance and support by the EduEdge Teachers, i was able to improve from a D7 to C5(prelims) and eventually a B3 for my O’s in just 4 months! Also because of this I’m eligible for all the poly and jc courses as well!
My advice to the EduEdge juniors is really to put in your efforts and time in English. Always complete your R.I.S.E and ask questions when you don’t understand any part of the lesson. Most importantly, you must consistently practice and use the techniques until you have familiarise. If I can improve 4grades in just 4 months I’m sure y’all can do it as well!! With the hard work y’all put in, yall definitely will get the results y’all wanted in ur O’s. All the best !! :>
Before I joined Eduedge, I faced quite a lot of challenges in learning English. I was always told that I could never score well for English exams as it is not my mother tongue. This seemed true as no matter how many practice papers I did after school, my English grades still fluctuated at B grades. The situation worsen when it came to sec 4. I started to fail my listening comprehension, paper 2 and got only border-line pass for Paper 1 writings. My friend and I did ask for help from our English teacher in school, but the only advice we received was to read more books! This is a little bit too difficult for a sec 4 student to follow especially with triple sciences and double maths to handle at the same time. This is when I started to panic . Previously I did not respect the language much as I was intending to take my higher mother tongue as my L1, so English grades would not affect my l1r5 aggregate. I went online to look for English tuitions and joined Eduedge a few weeks after my o level english oral. The teachers in Eduedge care for students and are always willing to help despite their busy schedule. Mr cheng and other teachers taught me different useful techniques to answer different components of the EL paper. All the techniques are easy to remember and follow , and they are the keys to help me improve my english grades. Within a few weeks before the actual o level exams, I improved from C5 in prelim to B3 in O level while many of my friends failed the exams and have to re-sit for it next year. I truly wish that i would joined eduedge earlier so that I can get all distinctions in my O level cert . I do sincerely encourage all students who face challenges in English join Eduedge learning centre and im sure you will see a huge improvement in your english grades within short periods of time if you follow the techniques they teach.
My name is Yu Hang. as I started my secondary school life I had been constantly failing my english language. My parents were very worried and started finding various home tutors for me in hopes of improving my english grade. However they proved to be of no help as I still continued failing my english. My parents then decided to continue searching for tuition centres. My mum then chanced upon the Eduedge website and asked me if I am interested to join. However I was reluctant to join as I have always disliked group tuitions. My parents felt that this tuition centre had the potential to bring my english language up to at least a passing grade as EduEdge is the only tuition centre that we have seen so far to offer a free diagnostic test for students and actually provide good feedback to the students after completing the test. After enrolling in Eduedge, I could see immediate improvement as I actually managed to get a C6 for my english in my CT2. However, as I was lazy to complete homework assignments given by Mr Cheng. As a result, I have always achieved a borderline pass for my english. However, as the O levels drew closer, I realized how important how english was as a L1 subject most if not all courses in polytechinic and JC requires at least a C6. Therefore I panicked and started revising all of the techniques Eduedge has imparted into me and started practising lots and lots of comprehension passages. As a result, I managed to achieve a B3 for my O level english, making a 3-band improvement. However, if I had only put in effort to study harder in the beginning, it could be possible to achieve A1/A2 for my O level english.
Eduedge has a really unique way of teaching their students, and that is to provide fomulas for students to easily understand english better. Students who are seeking to get a good grade for their english language should really put in their effort in completing the assignments given and learn to apply the techniques taught, and not just simply knowing the techniques and not applying them.
I am Rayanne Lim and am in S1.2 right now. When I joined EduEdge in 2019 around December for primary 6 lessons, my English grades were usually Bs and sometimes low As. However, after joining EduEdge, I managed to keep my English grades consistent and acquire an A for PSLE. In English papers, I usually did not do very well in Visual Text Comprehensions and Close Passages. EduEdge taught me how to highlight the needed keywords to find my answer in both the Visual Text Comprehension and the Close Passages. They taught me how to break down those keywords to make then easier to understand as I read the passage. I find that what EduEdge has taught me has really helped me keep my English grades consistent and not fall back. I started seeing that I was beginning to do better in the practices I was given in school as well.
Personally, i joined eduedge after failing my mye english paper 2 in sec 2. initially, i was worried and had no idea how to study for comprehension papers before joining eduedge. however, after i joined eduedge, the teachers shared many useful formulas to aid in my learning for english. Not only did i improve in my comprehension, i was also able to improve in my other english components such as writing and oral.
what i like most about this eduedge experience is the teaching style the eduedge coaches adopt. i never thought that i would be able to learn english through formulas. because of these formulas, i am able to improve my english step by step, little by little. additionally, even though i take my lessons online, there are still many interactive activities to engage me in the lesson. as such, i never get bored of any eduedge lessons as they are always fun and engaging. the teaching formulas and interactive lessons are certainly one of the things i like most in the eduedge programme.
Before i joined EduEdge, i have always thought that it was impossible to study English. The fact that I kept getting stuck at a C6 grade for my English didn’t help either.
Just like any concerned parent, my mother started looking everywhere for an English learning centre which could support me. Finally, she stumbled across EduEdge and decided to enroll me. Both my older and younger brother joined EduEdge too. My older brother was studying in an International School while my younger brother and I were studying in a local Secondary School. But all three of us have found ourselves progressing steadily in the mastery of the language!
After joining EduEdge, my grammar and vocabulary improved by leaps and bounds. I’ve learnt many useful and interesting ‘formula-style’ techniques in EduEdge – all of which were not taught in school or anywhere else.
The techniques which I’ve benefitted the most from were SP^3OTVCD, FATCORP, SCORE, PIVEO as they boosted my editing and writing components.
Thanks to EduEdge, I finally managed to improve 3-Bands from C6 to B3 at the O-Levels!
I believe it is very important to pay attention in class, jot down notes and actually revise and apply the techniques.
I am really glad that I’d joined EduEdge and I’m extremely pleased that I qualify for my first choice course! ☺☺ If i had left my secondary school with a C6 for English, i certainly would not have made it to my dream course ! Thank you Mr Cheng, Ms Yue and all the other EduEdge teachers for your execptional teaching!!
