Reviews of Old Airport Road Food Centre
Was there for dinner yesterday. Had Hokkien Prawn Noodles and Japanese Salmon Set. The Hokkien Noodles were well done, very delicious with the chilli provided. It also has a few slices of something that tasted like abalone. Just yummy! The Japanese Salmon Set was also very deliciously cooked. The baked salmon was very well prepared, flavourful and has a nice bite. We enjoyed our dinner. Will return for meals in future.
Came here again after the renovations. It is cleaner and have more seats. More breezy too cos of the huge fans but too much 😅. My hair flew all over😡😡😖. Had Hokkien Noodles and Batang Fish Soup. They are both super. Love them.
I came here for my favorite kueh chap. I arrived at eleven thirty and saw the queue was long. While queuing, I noticed the change in operation hour and rest day. I ordered Ala carte instead of set meal which comprises of big intestines, big intestines head, tau pok and pig skin. The total damage was twenty-one dollars. I queue for forty-five minutes before I get my food, and I must say the standard is still there. Strongly recommended.
Lots of food varieties and tasty choices in this food hawker center. Newly renovated and just reopened in Oct this year. Always packed with eaters coming around the town. My favorite and top 3 go to places are the Lamb Soup (ribs), XO Fish Soup, and Vegetarian cai fan.
Food is alright. Loved the JB sky noodles and XO fish soup. Roast paradise is famous too here but i don't get the hype... Service depends from store to store. The atmosphere still feels hot even after the renovation but little brighter now though. Food is cheap and good. Brought my friends here to eat.
The Pig Organ Soup is only $4 and the portion is actually quite generous. Bedok North minced pork noodles is just my comfort food. Go for soup one. Latest addition should be the pig trotters rice which i am addicted to recently.
Best Rojak $3 and Chendol $2.50
Good price, good food.
It is brighter and more airy after the renovation, but the cleaning is still poor. Overall, it is well worth the claim as one of the best Food Centres in Singapore, in fact, the best (IMHO) in terms of variety. Parking at lunchtime is impossible, almost!
Food were decent and inexpensive! It is good for a dinner place but it was not going to be a place that I definitely would miss and comeback.
* I can’t remember all the stall no.
I admitted we kinda over ordered it and we ordered: (can serve 4-5 pax)
- Chicken and beef satay (14 SGD for 20 sticks)
- Hokkien mee (8 SGD)
- Traditional Rojak (10 SGD + 2 SGD century egg)
- Stir fried Kangkong (8 SGD)
- Seafood Omellete - mixed of Oyster, Prawn, Sotong (10 SGD ) *MOST RECOMMENDED
- Chicken Wing (SGD 4 if im not wrong and not recommended from same stall as omellete its so dry)
- Ice Bandung, Ice lemon Tea and Ice Barley total around SGD 6
🤗
Many food stalls but less than half were closed for business. Atmosphere has no change even after a long period of closure for so called upgrading and renovations. Will be disappointed if you go there after 9pm.
I went there for suitcase wheel replacement which was efficiently done. Had some sugarcane juice and dumplings while I waited. Yummy
Halal Taste Of Vietnam Stall;
Completely in love with her Vietnamese foodies. Really bargain, taste great, and so much condiments are provided. It is totally recommended for those yet to try out, especially chicken and beef sandwich rich flavour and super soft loft bread.
This is a true hidden gem selling authentic Thai curries. They have red, which is spicy, green, which is slightly spicy, and yellow, which is milder. The texture of the curries are broth like, making it slurpy-licious! They only have chicken with added vegetables. The set meal comes with tumeric rice which goes well with all the curries available. Understand they now have pineapple fried rice and chicken kaprao or basil leaves. They will be adding tomyum fried rice soon. This place is a true social enterprise with a gentleman and lady who are both special needs youngsters with a willingness to learn and to improve themselves to the best of their ability. They prep, cook and do inventory. They deserve our support. The name of the stall is Siam Cuisine #01-65. They have added new dishes including meatless pineapple fried rice and pad kaprao gai.
Ordered bbq chicken, no taste and very dry. Fried oyster only has egg. 0172 seafood quite nice, stingray min $15 quite expensive.
The pork chop is nice & juicy, strongly recommended 😍
Thoroughly enjoyed Roast Paradise’s menu! Especially the charsiew and roast pork. We ordered Charsiew, roast pork and duck, was good! Portions were affordable and it amounted to about $30+ for ~3 people to share!
Atmosphere was mud. Some truck at the main road caused the whole hawker to smell like doo doo, so we had to shift to another area that smelled less rancid. 9/10 food made up for it.
Updated 03Oct2022
Had prawn noodles this visit.
#01-98 Whitley Big Prawn Noodle
Huge prawns.
Flavourful noodles and sauce.
Truly enjoyable.
Went there for the Lor Mee and ordered spinach soup.
Queue for the Lor Mee was long but the wait was reasonable, about 20 minutes.
Sgd $5 bowls got me a huge bowl, lots of shredded fish, pork bits and noodles.
Delicious as always.
The spinach soup was clear and flavoured by the ingredients.
Spinach, century and salted eggs, minced pork and wolf berries.
Sweet.
Loved both dishes.
Nice lunch at this famous hawker centre. Not too crowded since it's weekday. However many of the well-rated stalls were closed - not sure if it's cos it's Wed. Couldn't get to try Lao Fu Zi fried kway teow, Xin Mei Xiang lor mee and Albert Street prawn noodles. Had the Famous hougang wantan mee, Nam Sing Fried Hokkien noodles, Lor 20 Geyang banana fritters, and nonya chendol. The latter 2 were good. Had to wait 45 mins for Nam Sing but I didn't find it exceptional. It was slightly sticky n dry. The taste was there but it only came with cut chilli and not the nice sambal shrimp paste chilli which good hokkien mee comes with. The wantan mee was quite different from the hong kong style and was not bad.
One of our favourite local food centre.. lotsa traditional good food at affordable prices.. had char kway tiao ($4) and kuey chap ($11.40) for breakfast on a relaxing Saturday morning 😎
crowded place at old airport Road food centre . I had the chicken & mushroom spaghetti aglio olio
The location is close to the national game stadium.
The chicken and mushroom was soo good!
It’s worth the price as we only paid $5.8
50 for one ppl!.
All time favourite. Nothing much to talk about the place. A regular old school hawker center service standard as all stalls arexself-service. However if u are game for a stomach of great food. You got to try this place. Many stalls ve been around for decades... There's simply too many choices for just 1 stomach.. lol...
Various choice of food. Food are generally delicious. Quite warm if dine in during non rainy season.
The Kallang Cantonese Live Prawn Noodle stall 01-83 was outstanding.
One of the biggest food centre. Been here many times. First time trying the fish head soup at #01-120. Was shocked and blew me away. The soup was rich with deep flavour. Fish super fresh and loaded with vegetables for $8 a bowl. Queue started to build up towards dinner time. Will be back for sure.
The atmosphere of the center is really cool! Lots of different options, ideal for big groups who want to try different food and pretty affordable pricing. Would recommend if you like eating street food but difficult finding vegetarian food here.
Still many nice food
Nested away from the busy city centers or the popular heartland centres is this Old Airport Road Food Centre. Take the train to Mounbatten, exit B and head 350m to this sort of psychedelic and historic food centre. Come here with an empty stomach and be ready to be bombarded with delightful hawker food, with practically every stall famous for what they serve our famous moved from some other equally popular locations. Everything is ready to eat, you just have to wait it out at the more popular stalls.
So much to eat here! But let's differentiate the over-hyped stalls from the stalls serving genuine good food. Many people like to Q at the famous Char Kway Teow but I suggest to buy from Dong Ji instead coz that was 1 plate of really good CKT I ate. Also like Roast Paradise, 168 Curry Chicken, Holy Grill, Western BBQ and a Hor Fun stall at the quiet end. Those stalls never fail me!
Variety of local food to choose from. Chicken wings, hokkien mee, lor mee, chicken rice, chendol, lor bak, oyster omelette, claypot rice, satay, western food, char koay teow, you name it, they have it. Some hits and misses but mostly still acceptable and affordable too.
The food centre has been completely closed several times when I dropped by and there's simply no indication of when we may find the place closed suddenly.
Food there is good though, especially char kway teow and oyster omelette.
Edit: there's a great website to see if a place is closed or not. For people as lost as me: https://singaporetours.com.sg/hawker-centre
Large variety of food here, including
- 2 famous Wan Ton Mee (Cho Kee and Hua Kee) in the firrst row facing main road,
- 2 nice Chendol stalls @$2 per bowl
- Toast Hut, which sells great bread and tea, coffee (till lunchtime)
The challenge lies in finding a table, especially during weekends and peak times.
One of the best hawker centers around in terms of food quality. Many good stalls located here, just follow the queue if you’re new
Very good assortment of food selection, not so hot now but not sure if it's due to renovation or the cooling weather when I was there.
One of Singapores best hawker centers. Great Wanton Mee, prawn noodles, minced meat noodles, fried banana and durian, roast paradise and OAR seafood soup.
Hokkien Mee is overrated.
We decided to make a trip to old airport road for the up and coming stall Roast Paradise. Its charsiew had been raved by food bloggers to be one of the best charsiew in Singapore. Sad to say, we found that the KL style charsiew was too much of a departure from our normal charsiew for our tastes. It was bak kwa on chicken rice. And it was good bak kwa, with the sweet sauce and fatty parts. But it was too sweet for our tastes, so we didn't finish it. Go if you want to try what others have been raving about, and if you dont mind having bakkwa with rice. I think it was a good experience. We also tried the dry tom yam bak mee and beef tendon noodles from the Gin Sen thai stall. The dry tom yam bak mee had a sprinking of sugar on the side, and tasted very authentic. Still, it was somewhat too sweet for me as I'm not used to sweet noodles. We had sweet pad thai everywhere in Thailand so I suppose that it is meant to be a sweet dish. Beef tendon noodles was pleasant, but we wouldn't specially make a trip for it.
Lot of good local food...easily more then 50 stalls to choose from. Many fame local stalls can be found here..worth coming. I always like to go for seng kee ngo hiang prawn cracker, #01-29, which is just next to a fried oyster which is one man operation and always has a queue
Tried hong yun delicacies sweet and sour rice, not the best i tried but the stall owner is friendly and chatty
One of my favourite hawker centres in Singapore as it has a more authentic vibe to it and has a great variety of stalls. Flavours and prices are definitely better compared to the more generic Food Republic food courts.
A very old hawker centre in Singapore. You can find many local food stalls here. However evening and weekend have more crowd. Food are nice, you can base on the queue to decide.
In terms of food, there are way too many choices to ever get bored of. I personally feel that the location is pretty suffocating to be having a proper meal. The famous lor mee was closed on that day so we opted for the Tion Bahru Lor Mee which sees a long queue. I think there were a total of 3 lor mee stalls there. Taste wise, it is fine, nothing overly spectacular. The shark meat had a very strong fishy taste. Ordered char kway teow from the stall just opposite the lor mee. The aroma was insane but tasted pretty charred. I even got some yam cakes at $0.90 per piece. No regrets. The yam was dense!
Probably one of the best hawker food centers in Singapore. Amazing home made food. Dozens of stalls to choose. Chinese, Malay, indian.
Second largest hawker center in Singapore. Come early in the evening to have the widest selection - places start shutting down past 8pm/20.00. Variety of cuisines though a heavy Chinese influence. Seafood, beer and even a few Western options (pasta, BBQ). Definitely a great experience for reasonably priced traditional Singaporean faire!
Seating is all outdoors. Most places likely only accept cash so plan accordingly.
1. Xing Li Cooked Food (01-28) - 4.5 stars
This orh jian is always a must-order for me when I visit Old Airport! I will always order a $5 portion, served with 6-8 plump pieces of oysters, but the waiting time usually takes 20-30 mins.
If you like a “wetter” and “runnier” version, you will like this. Despite being wetter, you will still be able to bite into some crispy parts with charred edges~ Dip into their tangy chilli, and it will bring out even more flavours!
2. Old Airport Rd Authentic Hokkien Fried Mee (01-99) - 3.5 stars
This plate of Hokkien mee ($5) is the "wetter" type with prawns, sotong, pork belly, mock abalone slices, pork lard and chilli. It is relatively inexpensive, but taste-wise, it could be much more flavourful.
There is a lack of wok-hei, and the prawn-flavoured broth was watered down and mild. The noodles were also somewhat soggy and weren't springy. I do, however, like the dollop of spicy and limey-flavoured chilli they had.
One of the best hawker centres located at eastern Singapore with huge array of food to choose from. Ample parking lots, accessible easily via MRT (circle line) and buses too.
Quite easy to get to and great choice of food. Yummy fried oysters, excellent chicken wings.....
They have live prawn noodle… worth going , even I stay west side make effort to travel to east
I visited Old Airport Road hawker to look for the Selera Rasa briyani stall and found the stall not cooking anymore due to manpower shortage. Then I noticed the MUFFINS at AH TAS MUFFINS stall which along the closed briyani stall. I saw the muffins noticed my eyes and I decided to taste one. Very deciduous and very soft and nicely. Each cost one $2.20 which is quite cheap. They are not very big and just nice space for the breakfast or tea break. I decided to buy some for home too.
It's my first visit here. We thot we would look for breakfast somewhere different after our morning walk at the National Stadium. This food center has multiple levels and a huge range of food. I settled on longtong. It's as I remembered. Much as I liked to sample more we couldn't after 2 weeks of feasting. But I look forward to returning and exploring the many food options here.
dine in during the new years eve and still a lot of stall are still open til 10pm.
a lot of food options available here but the most notable and a must try is the korean fried chicken in Salt, they have 4 flavors, tried the soy sauce and salt & pepper flavor. theirs chicken is very crispy outside and soft inside
Finally visited this place that is so much raved about. Managed to find only 2 of the recommended stall though. Roast paradise char siew is indeed good, beautifully roasted, crispy and tasty! Nam Sing hokkien fried noodle is great too - noodle fully absorbed the juicy sauce and noodle is fragrantly fried! Other things we've tried area so so though. Probably won't go all the way back there again though, probably only if passing by.
A place food lover must go.
Pretty pro for the hawker to grill to such a standard.
You can feel the effort made for perfect food.
Many varieties of food! Great for foodie lover to try! Love it!
Time your visit according to what you wd like to eat. There's been an upheaval in the old hawkers being replaced by new ones, some of which aren't half bad.
Full of goodie foodie.. the renown Hokkien mee worthy of the wait, the long queue from the Wanton mee..plus my recent frequent of the big prawn mee. Easily worthy to be awarded by the Michelin.
Everyone is eating lor mee.
Went early around 10:30am for brunch and some shops like KL roast and char kway tiao were not open yet.
Long queue for the most popular lor mee stall. We found like 4 other stalls selling lor mee within this hawker centre so this must be the Lor Mee Haven of Singapore.
Many good local food here. But nice ones all need to queue very long.
Food is good. The satay, pho, korean food is good.
Lau Pa Sat Rojas stall. Not bad especially the bbq tau pok, cuttlefish, and Yu-tiau.
This area is also far from the maddening crowd. Near the famous beef noodle shop.
Can try.
The Dong Ji fried Keat Teow - not too bad and always long queue BUT the owner really very super grouchy bitter attitude. Really disturbs your soul.
When on Sunday, many ppl. Amber parking if not in peak hours. Food variety is great. Worth to visit again.
Delicious food. Stall owners are very friendly. Place is clean
Hawker centre a little bit outside of the city centre, really gives you the local feel! Many good stands, would highly recommend the north indian stand (garlic naan) and the thai stand (yellow curry chicken) run by muslims (as its stated at both shops on the signs).
A bit rundown but it’s now undergoing some renovation- so it’s closed till Nov 2024. Hopefully better lighting and seating and the vendors back!
Good value, plenty choices of local food. Affordable price.
So many food choices here. Value for money. Can get quite crowded during peak hours and thus some popular items may run out earlier than expected. Went on a Sunday around 7pm.
There are really many stores. It's dinner time and there are a lot of people and it smells like food. There are a lot of different foods. I like that there is a market like this in Singapore too. The price is cheap
The food here at the old airport is good, with many stalls and many Michelin-recommended delicacies. The disadvantage is that the environment is really chaotic and dirty.
The food is all delicious, 😋😋😋
Forget diet 🙈🙈🙈
This is recommended by a local friend in Singapore
It’s much cheaper to eat satay here!
I ordered 10 skewers in one go for SGD9
If it weren’t for the peanut butter in the satay sauce (fear of getting fat🥺)
If you want me to eat 10 more skewers, that’s fine
Local hawker.
However, I wouldn't say it's extremely cheap, but it's interesting lol
I found a place where you can get nasi lemak set for $2.3.
No matter where I eat in Singapore, it is never tasteless or salty.
Freshly cooked rice is delicious.
The braised pork skin and intestines were also delicious.
Please note that the restaurant closes for a break around 3pm.
Dakota MRT is within walking distance.
Very large food court from the selection to the color of the food and at very good prices
