Reviews of Wessex Estate
F. B.Tuck away in lush greenery and gentle rolling hills surrounding at Portsdown Road area is the quiet Wessex Estate.
The Colonial era black and white houses consisting of walk-up Apartments and semi-detached Bunglows used to house British military personnel from the nearby Alexandra and Pasir Panjang Millitary Installations.
Sitting on a hilltop in the estate is an old disused Water Tank.
A famous eatery called Colbar at Woking Road serves old school Hainanese pork chop.
These restored Colonial houses are now managed by Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) and are available for public rental.
Many are leased to Arts related activities like art studios, scupture workplace, etc.
k. c.Nice and serene little place with black and white colonial bungalows and walk-up flats that were built by the British army in the 1940’s for their officers. The estate is surrounded by undulating hills, green pastures and beautiful trees. The properties are managed by JTC and are for rental only (at quite reasonable price, I hear). There is a disused water tank high up on the hill, sitting there quietly and seeing the world go by.
It’s great to have such a historical place preserved, and its good to come here on the weekend for a leisurely stroll. I hope they let it be and not build any high rises around this place (there is one modern building here, the Tanglin Trust school).
C. P.Love Wessex Estate for its captivating blend of history and creativity. In particular, the colonial architecture features iconic black-and-white houses from the British military era. In addition, the lush greenery offers a peaceful retreat from the city's hustle. Great place for a walk or jog. Quiet and serene with very few cars. Plenty of shade and nice scenery. Do appreciate this unique glimpse into Singapore's colonial past before it’s gone.

A. J.Wessex Estate was occupied by the ANZUK military in 1972. I lived there in Kabul Court. A happy time for us with fond memories.
