Reviews of Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak
I've visited this stall regularly during my university days 20 years ago and the standard is still so good today after so many years. The best part of the dish is the chill which can go well with anything. Chicken wing and peanuts are crispy. They're not stingy on the rice and chill portion but of course you still want to eat more because they're just so yummy. The best food you can spend $4 on.
Ordered the Chicken Set ($4) for takeaway and only managed to eat it almost half a day later. The rice and chilli is amazing, I finally understand why this place is so popular! Chicken is alright, and the egg yolk was cooked to a nice jammy consistency. 10/10 will come back!
Most people staying in the west would probably have heard about power nasi lemak. I have eaten it a few times over the years but they were all takeaways.
Visited in Jan 2024 when I was searching for a replacement nasi lemak. It was just alright and I think they are quite over-hyped. They are also popular probably because there are no other options late at night, but this is not a stall I will likely try again.
First time buying nasi lemak for supper. The sambal is the most fantastic you can't find other stalls that can have the same taste of the sambal. The fried chicken wing, fried egg, all are yummy. The best part is you don't need to be hungry in the middle of the night. Their operating hours are slightly longer than other stalls.
Queued behind roughly ten people for 20 minutes, so it is quite fast moving. The Nasi Lemak is indeed pack with Power from the first bite till the last. Rice is flavourful and the sambal is just amazingly good. The chicken wing is good too but I prefer more crispy.
POWER! The nasi lemak is fresh and tasty. Good selection and choices. Nice flavorful rice and sambal. Friendly and quick service. POWER!
Great Nasi Lemak at affordable prices. Strongly recommended to try it out. Long queues are expected but move really quickly. Fried chicken is amazing. Sambal can be quite spicy got people who can't handle heat.
Decent Nasi Lemak at this outlet, but cannot compare to the original outlet. If you're driving would suggest taking the detour to the other outlet.
Q up around 10-15 mins around 12noon, The Nasi lemak was quite ok, The prawn sambal was amazing, not so spicy, the curry vegetable is sweet, and I still prefer the curry cutters fish. 2 sets of Nasi Lemak cost us $13, the basic one is $4 per plate.
The 'sambal chili' not consistent. Sometimes spicy & Sometimes not. Fried chicken wings, sometimes cold even the rice are Sometimes cold. Always run out of ingredients like cucumber & ikan bilis with nuts.
Famous Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak brand name stall at Taman Jurong. Quality is alright. The rice is a bit hard and I felt the standard has dropped. Not superb and I am sure that are more up and coming Nasi Lemak shops that have surpassed them.
Good Nasi Lemak that won’t break the bank.
Food:
I bought the Chicken Wing Nasi Lemak(SGD3) with add on of an otah(SGD1.50) and fried fish(comes in twos, SGD1.50). A total of SGD6.
The rice was warm, fragrant and delicious, with a hint of coconut milk and pandan.
Fried chicken wing size was good, not overtly oily, but not very crispy.
Fried fish was crispy, with ample flesh.
The otah is the wet type, with some fish meat and a nice spicy kick.
Sambal chilli that came along on the side provided a nice sweet, slightly sour and spicy bite to the overall meal.
Price:
SGD6
Location:
I live in Serangoon so this place is one that I’ll rarely, if not never, visit. Parking is limited so come early to beat the crowd.
Would I recommend?
Yes. This has got to be one of the most reasonably priced Nasi Lemaks that I’ve tried. Food portion is good, and the owners are not out to scam your money. Come here early, get a cup of sugarcane juice and tuck in to this delicious meal.
Nothing went wrong, To me , the food was still as good as before. The only thing that might have issues were the service level vs expectation e.g. self packing and the paying machine. 😀
Went in the late morning. Still have t9 queu for 10mins. Quality is there. $3.50 sgd for this nice portion. Chicken wing was well seasoned and the rice was cooked well with coconut milk. Justified the 15min detour o took to eat here after so long.
Been searching for a good nasi lemak in Singapore, but this one is beyond good, they are the best! I love the super fragrant coconut rice, the perfectly cooked and crispy chicken, and the star of it all is their sambal ♥️♥️ omg they are to die for! It’s not extremely spicy and not overly sweet, it’s really just the right amount of spicy so that you can still enjoy your meal. I will definitely be back to try their rendang and paru set.
Ps. It’s too good i even forgot to take some picture 🤣
Power Nasi Lemak @ Boon Lay is considered as an institution around the area. It has Power Brand Name and if you googled for the Best Nasi Lemak stall in SG, inevitably, Power NL will pop up. So, is it really that good or just the hype.
The good, the rice was indeed well flavored and the coconut taste could be felt readily. Next, I enjoyed the sambal, it was spicy and the punch was not too overpowering, plus it wasn't sweet. However, mixing with the rice, the taste of coconut would be wholly blanketed by the sambal. Some people may like it, but I don't. Next, it has one of the crispiest fried fishes that I have ever tasted. It was crunchy and I could swallow the entire fish. Yummy!
Now, for the bad, the chicken wings had too much batter on it; I didn't like it. Next, the chicken wings came across as cold and slightly oily. Third, there wasn't any hint of turmeric or ginger on the batter of the wings. In other words, it was bland; I didn't enjoy it at all.
Overall, it was a decent place to enjoy a plate of Nasi Lemak. Unfortunately, I wouldn't drive all the way there to savour this one.
Did a take-away, chicken set plus begedil plus otah. The rice is excellent 5/5. The chicken wing is average and sambal chili is the sweet version. The rest is average.
Nice place, all food have , cheap & tasty also
Same good local taste as (idaresay) punggol nasi lemak, but in a different location. Less crowded but still tastes great! Really liked it! My only gripe is their rice, doesnt taste quite so coconuty or nice, and it looks like old rice 🤔
Timbre Eastside branch - This is a new branch located neat the Expo. The stall is pretty big and serves a variety of sets. The items are tasty but, unfortunately, they are mostly cold. In fact, the begerdil tasted a little off, while the chicken wing was cold and hard. The chilli was good, though
Stall always crowded for tasty nasi lemak during peak hours. Recommend to go early.
The nasi lemak is super nice, if you like the nasi lemak's sambal have come with sweet taste is a must try. Be prepare for queuing because always long queue, payment using machine. Is 24 hrs.
Been awhile since I came, went at an off peak time so there’s no queue. Honestly it didn’t seem as good as I recalled. Chicken was very crispy, rice was quite bland, egg was also not that fresh. The only good part was the chilli and otah which costs $1.50. Normal set is $3.50. Still very much prefer changi village’s nasi lemak
Great food with wonderful service provided together with the approachable staff 👍worth going back 🤗
Chicken wing was awesome! The paru was quite cold. The rice is not too bad but I expected it to be warmer and more fragrant.
Popular Nasi Lemak stall at Boon Lay Food Centre
Simply amazing. The best hawker nasi lemak for me. What else is there to be said.
One of the tastier nasi lemak stall with queue on crowds all around the time of opening till close.
Probably because I came from Malaysia and had had some of the best packet nasi lemak with a very cheap price for a long time, to me this doesn't really "power" up my taste buds and senses, although the locals claimed that it is one the best. Kudos to the fried chicken wings and fried potato though, it was very well fried and finger-licking good.
Been there many times.. always with a long, yet reasonable queue.. the queue speaks the language, really... top quality.. always a salivating waiting time, but, oh, so much worth the time. While the Nasi Lemak is the star of the show - and will also be.. do not miss out trying the rendang dishes.. they are yummilicious as well
It's one of the only places with a hot plate of nasi lemak. The consistency of the food is terrific.
Anticipate a queue even if it's at 2 am...
Sweet Chilli and nice chicken wings and open till late was here until 2am!
Love their nasi lemak chilli!
Perfect Nasi Lemak. Food is great. But the place to sit and eat is bad. Take away better. There are 9 options of different sets. Chicken set is the best. You can whatsapp for bulk order
It is no longer as nice as before. The rice is quite normal, the wings is tough. And it is really expensive to add some vegetables for $2 for just a small portion.
Good nasi lemak, chicken crispiness is great, portion is good and their ikan billis is amazing, would recommend to eat there.
Nice food that come with constant long queue. Worth it of cos.
Got it two weeks ago but didn’t take photo. I think their friend chicken wing is the bomb. I ordered the set. It’s pretty good, would try again! There’s a number you can call for preorder! Will snap a photo next time
Tips for not queuing - order self-pickup from the green and pink app when walking over.
Delicious food
One of the most famous nasi lemak in West side of Singapore
I don't know if it's me or the standard dropped... Wing set $4.50. I find the pricing too steep, I understand that business needs to earn money, but one chicken wing, one egg and rice for $4.50 is too much... I hope the owner could relook into the pricing of the food.
A well known nasi lemak stall in the west. The stall is a well known food place among local residents and would often have long lines, especially during the peak hours, but the queue moves fairly quickly. The food itself is pretty delicious, though the quality has dropped a little from the past.
Really powwwwaahhh! But ofc in a hawker so its hot
Been awhile since I revisit Power nasi lemak, the taste is still great and the fried chicken wings is still as good as how I remember it! Delicious!
Overall food was good. Sweet sambal, nasi lemak rice not too hard or soft, crunchy chicken wing and flavourful beef rendang. Only down side is poor service. Some people were cutting que and skipped que. I bought for take away and no spoons were provided. Also she forgotten my order and left out some things that I said. Eventhough it's not that cheap - $4 for nasi lemak chicken wing set. I can see why it's famous for the good food.
Update after 1 year
Service has improved!
the Rice is fluffy and flavor , sambal just the right spice, vege fresh and yummy. Same with the peanut and ikan billis, fresh and cruncy. Only let down is the Beef Rendang, used to be very tender, but the one I took is tough like rubber. Flavor is still on the rendang, but it is hard to chew and cut. Used to be very good, I guess the quality dropped now. 😅
I see many people who says it used to be great, high price and etc. I personally think it's awesome and it's not expensive at Singapore!!
The rice is so fragrant you can smell it when queuing, the fried chicken is so crispy and feel the oil squeeze out when u bite the meat, what a great dish and the stall owner is super friendly!
I will go back for sure!!!
One of the better nasi lemak in the West side. The sambal here is the best I've tasted so far, coconut rice flavour can be quite inconsistent. At times it would be good and sometimes bad. The chicken wing is not bad but nothing special as well. Overall would recommend everyone to try.
Relatively famous nasi lemak stall in boon lay. Has been around many years and due to high turn around of customers most of the time you will get hot fried chicken.
Queue may seem daunting but they serve faster than other stalls.
The chilli is not as good as last time
Very nice nasi lemak with fresh ingredients
It's just ok, simple nasi lemak from hawker stall which can be found at plenty of places in Singapore, not sure why it got so popular. Only packed food for take away after 3 am. The place didn't look very hygienic.
Frankly, the nasi lemak was quite average. While they may sell the best nasi lemak at Boon Lay hawker centre, you can definitely find better nasi lemak in the Jurong area, and of course, other parts of Singapore.
Let's state the fairly obvious: Power Nasi Lemak does not stand in isolation; it exists in competition with others. But - and there is a huge 'but' - its quality and reputation garner such a standing that its queue and patronage far exceed any would-be competitor, especially purveyors of nasi lemak, which are set up respectfully away in the inner atrium from this establishment. To put things in perspective, Boon Lay Food Centre and Market is some times conveniently referred to Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak among my friends.
What greets you when step in queue are the number of newspaper cuttings, prose dedicated to their culinary prowess. What remains of display real estate are accolades showing what the founders of Power Nasi Lemak want all would-be customers: we got you the best in the business.
But are they worth the shout? Definitely. Food batches are churned out quickly. So the guarantee of fresh food is high. And it did not escape my notice one particular ethnic Malay attendant speaks fluent Mandarin. That is massive kudos!
Everything cooked here is certainly worth its salt - literally. This receives my highest praise really. Without sounding cliched, this is a must-try.
Great nasi leak need also to try the Indian drink stalls teh tarik. It's just beside ot or 1 or 2 stalls away. Great fragrant teh tarik. Remember to ask them to separately pack the chicken wing if you live far away. Otherwise, it will not be crispy by the time you get home if its packed inside the rice.
Felt the food quality has gone down over the years.. still the one of the best crispy chicken on offer on a Nasi lemak plate.
One of the best, if not. Totally the best nasi lemak avaliable in singapore! Worth it for the price and the variety! Fast queues and Bloody delicious wings
The food is very diverse, the price is okay, good, and great!
Nasi Lemak very tasty and delicious 😋..best nasi lemak ever 😋 😀 😍 😄 ❤ 👌 😋...many varieties you can choose to add on nasi lemak. Also have lontong, siamese noodles, boiled noodles and kueh. Since 1971..legendary
This food is good. I have been eating it for several years.
Pretty good, nasi lemak. . . It’s worth it. I buy it frequently and have eaten it for more than ten years. If it’s not delicious, I’ll only come here once. . During dinner time, you have to queue up if you want to eat. I always go early to pack and take away at 4:30 pm* there will be fewer people at this time. . 🈶If you have time, you can give it a try~
This is my favorite nasi lemak, especially their ayam rempah. The price is a bit high, but it's worth it. Sambal is also spicy and sweet.
Great Nasi Lemak, Mee Rebus With Beef Rendang. Continue To Be Best & Best Selling.
Awsome 100% Best👍🏻
