Reviews of Ho Ji Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodles
Overall nice hokkien mee. There're more prawns & pork belly compared to other stalls with same price range. I do miss having some sotong although its absence didn't affect the tastiness, just a personal preference for a bit of chewiness. The chilli's spiciness had some kick. Probably, we bought near closing time, so there wasn't any crispy pork lard. Will try to buy earlier next time.
Ho Ji remains easily in my top 10 favorite FHM. Its umami-rich prawn stock is spot on and the boss strike a great balance between yellow noodles and bee hoon.
The pork belly is juicy, the pork lard perfectly crispy, and the prawns this time are especially succulent and fresh. As usual, the sambal belacan is too spicy for me, and the belacan flavor comes through a bit too strongly for my liking.
Ang Mo Kio is home to many great FHM. Besides the famous Ah Jie and the old-timer Eng Ho, Ho Ji is another must-visit gem that shouldn’t be missed.
Very flavourful Hokkien mee.
I like the Umami. Lots of pork lard.
Belachan chilli has a bitter unique tanginess.
NEW (3⭐️)
2 things stood out.
1) confirmed that i don't like this kind of chilli (a matter of personal preference)
2) noodles itself is not bad, but got some burnt bits (see picture), which made a few mouthfuls a tad bitter
OLD (3⭐️) I guess I don't really learn from experience.. I still insisted/ went ahead to get a FHKM from a 'cold' wok at 3pm on a Monday ;)
In the end, no wok hey in my opinion, the flavour was good though, but not my type of chilli. I think I'll enjoy it much more if they have that dark red/ drier type of chilli 🌶
Portion was $5 + $2 (加料).
Superb plate of hokkien prawn noodle. Intense wok hei with crispy pork lard to top it off. Sambal belachan is spicy right to the point. Will definitely be back for more.
Went on Friday lunch for prawn noodle but was sold out. First time eat HKM from this store. I was surprised my order was not cook to order, instead just scoop out from the wok, though is still warm.
The portion is big and ingredients are generous, 4 big prawns and plenty of pork belly. This is the wet type HKM, though I prefer the drier type, bit still taste very nice. Probably due to their chilli. Not much wok hei. Overall, a good plate of comforting HKM. Recommended.
One of my favorite fried hokkien prawn noodle. The thin beehoon soaked up the gravy, super hot chilli source, delicious !
Boss Roger cooks up a fantastic plate of HKM. $5 portion comes with 4 prawn and many slices of pork belly.
Yellow noodle and beehoon has soaked up all the prawn broth aroma and is deliciously creamy wet.
He is generous for the belachan chili and the chili is more spicy and tangy.
The pork lard is made by him and it will go well with noodles.
Highly recommended, come and try it!
Happy to have found another awesome hkm!! 😄
Passed by and curious by the signboard confidently saying “Years of experience in stir-frying Fujian noodle”, so had to order to try.
Certainly lived up to its claim. A generous $5 plate with thin bee hoon used that perfectly soaked up rich and flavourful prawn stock. Boss version varies and was happy to get a just right cooked semi-wet gooey one. Comes with good portions of prawns and pork belly strips and pork lard.
Beware of the super potent 🥵🥵🥵sambal belachan chilli! Burnt my lips but very shiok!
😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋
Excellent! Period.
But to increase my wordings...
I was attracted by the signboard saying "Many years of experiences in cooking fried prawn mee" 😁 That's like a challenge and I took it. The prawn mee never fails this time. The price and portion is good too. Excellent chilli as well , as indicated in the signboard. Amazing why not much people knows about them.
one of the nicest hokkien mee. I have ate hokkien mee cook by him before he open this stall. taste remain the same and great.
**the chilli is great for those who love spicy.
Came around 4.30pm, was so hungry after work that I went to have a second plate of hkm and I am so glad that I made the trip down. Ordered the $6 hkm and the boss was super friendly.
I dare to say that this might be the best hokkien mee in ang mo kio hands down. The boss was super generous with the pork belly as well as the sea prawns. The chilli definitely is super spicy like the one at Yi Ji so do not attempt to try it if you cannot handle spice well. Hkm did not have squid but I am fine without it. The stock that was infused and fried into the hkm was super robust and there was wok hei as well. The boss used thin bee hoon and there was still some gravy left to ensure that it is not too dry after frying it. The fried pork lard really compliments the entire dish and elevate the hkm experience. Alas, a cup of super thick kopi o kosong di lo from teck huat to cleanse my palate and end my makan experience.
Overall, I will say it is in my list of the top 5 hokkien mee in singapore. Will definitely come back to eat again if I am nearby in the area.
PS, to the boss if you are reading this, you have a good music taste.
Traditional hokkien mee. Spicy sambal chilli. A $5 dish that comes with 3 prawns. Hard to find nowadays. They use thin bee hoon which absorbs the flavourful stock better. Wok hey could be stronger but for its price point i think its quite awesome already
Definitely worth the calories!!! In fact, the nicest prawn noodle I ever tasted! So flavourful… the chili is sooo good too…
Flavour doesn’t change even though it’s a takeaway! One of the best Hokkien Noodles I’ve eaten. Not to mention super good home made chilli!
Solid strong taste wok hey and umami. Recommended!
Want a good n spicy hokkien Mee. This is the place to go for.
Very tasty fried hokkien prawn noodles! Not forgetting the awesome chilli, a perfect match indeed. Highly recommended!!!
Must try their chilly. It is the wet kind of fried hockkien prawn noodle. For senior, $3:50 from 7-9am. Worth. They accept CDC too! If you are nearby, try this!
Best lah this place. Boss is the best also.
Had this Hokkien Mee for the 2nd time! Flavourful gravy, nice chili and very generous portion. Highly recommended to try 👍🏼👍🏼
A good plate of HKM with spicy chilli.
love the noodles, chilli and fresh prawn.
Best plate of fried HKM in amk.
