Reviews of Ipoh River Fish Tai Pai Tong
Went there for early Mother’s Day lunch. Is a simple restaurant, spacious and quiet. The river fish recommended by the server is very nice . Service is great and the food pricing is reasonable. It cost us higher because we the fish alone is about $200 plus..(even is serve half size but the fish is big, goes by weight). They served hot tea but can buy the drinks from outside the canteen.
Overall the food is fantastic, the herbal chicken is a plus dish. Will definitely return for more.
Interesting concept, the place has an aircon section and you can also sit in the coffeeshop next door. Service is average and waiting time is 30 to 45 min. Went on a Sunday before 630pm but got the food only at 7pm. Loved their hor fun. Salted beehoon is not bad, not too strong salted egg taste. I thought the vinegar pork was nice - not overpoweringly sour and a bit on the sweeter side. Wrapped chicken, tofu with sea asparagus, fish maw soup was also not bad but fish maw was a little hard. Didn't like their coffee ribs..coffee taste was overpowering. Affordable as no extra charges
Ordered carrot cake, sambal potato leaves, salted egg bee hoon and fermented bean fried pork. The carrot cake was amazing. Nothing like local carrot cake but tasted wonderful. Sambal potato leave was not too spicy and it was fried with pork lard! Salted egg bee hoon was interesting dish could be abit more charred. Fried pork serving was generous and very well seasoned.
The atmosphere was cozy with childhood memory. The food was sumptuous delicious especially the salted egg fried bee Hoon and the service provided was good !
Very cosy and old school vibe, enjoyed the food, great for family dinner. Servings are big and affordable price. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming :)
From the moment I stepped through the doors, the atmosphere set the stage for what would be an unforgettable meal.
To start, we ordered the renowned chili crab, and it did not disappoint—what a revelation! The crab was cooked to perfection, its tender meat infused with a sauce that balanced heat and sweetness beautifully. Each bite was a delightful explosion of flavor that left me longing for more. Paired with a side of freshly baked bread, I had the perfect means to savor every last drop of that incredible sauce.
Next up was the succulent chicken, a dish that stole the show in its own way. Grilled to a golden brown, each piece was incredibly juicy, coated in a marinade that was bursting with herbs and spices. The texture was simply heavenly—crispy on the outside yet melt-in-your-mouth tender inside. It was paired beautifully with seasonal vegetables that retained just the right amount of crunch, adding a pleasing contrast to the dish.
As a fan of plant-based fare, I was ecstatic to have the soft and bouncy tofu as part of our meal. It was sautéed to perfection, with a delightful exterior that gave way to a creamy interior. The chef’s choice of seasonings enhanced the tofu's natural flavor while allowing it to shine on its own. Each piece was crafted with a finesse that demonstrated true mastery of texture and taste.
The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who were knowledgeable about the menu and passionate about the food they serve. They offered prompt recommendations and ensured that our dining experience was nothing short of spectacular.
In conclusion, my visit was a feast for the senses—a harmonious blend of flavors, textures, and attentive service. From the succulent chicken to the soft tofu and the incredibly delicious chili crab, every dish was a testament to the skill and creativity of the kitchen. I left with a satisfied palate and a heart full of joy, already planning my next visit. A true must-try for anyone who appreciates incredible food!
Very nice atmosphere, cosy and fully aircon, food is nice too.
Big portion , fast serving , tasty food , love it .. Had a great dinner experience with family .. Love the salted baked chicken the most .. good ambience for a family gathering ..
The food was good, heavily recommend lala soup and must order cereal prawn! I love this place so much!
Love the food so much.. especially the Empurau fish, curry fish head & ginger wine meehoon. Portion is a lots too..
Food is superb and price is reasonable. Highly recommend!
I have become a regular for this Tai Pai Tong. My family members and myself all like the food varieties served. Price very reasonable and affordable. Personally I felt that the taste suits my family. The curry fish head is a must try dish if you have 4 adults dining together. If big eater, 2 pax also can. Personally I felt that the curry fish head for 2 pax indeed heavy, especially for dinner time. 🤭
Food is good and cheap! Definitely worth coming
Tabao b4. horfun is nice, got wok hei. salted egg ribs with rice is nice. Ate there n liked the fish head steamboat, nice light refreshing soup but still well flavoured. fried french beans with haebi can be more fragrant. Slightly raw. I like the salted egg beehoon, nice n fragrant. White coffee pork ribs was ok, coffee taste could be more fragrant but meat was tender and succulent. Would be good if they could provide cut red chillies as they only give cut green chillies which aren't spicy at all. Nice enough dishes and affordable prices. Great place for ppl who are not into overly salty food.
Been trying out different food. The fried beef horfun (dry) was aromatic and tasty.
Updated on 24 Mar '24: Have been tabaoing all this while since I live nearby but very disappointed tonight. I wasn't aware the salted egg beehoon is now a vegetarian version. There's no meat slices nor prawns. There was only cabbage slices, pork lard and egg bits.
Love the food here!
Price was affordable for the dishes. Love the salted egg prawns!!! So good. Would recommend.
