Reviews of MaoYou Sarawak Kolomee & Laksa (AngMoKio)
1st time having Sarawak Laksa at this stall. Taste to my liking of a bit sour & spicy. This is the small portion. Can be ex if it is inna HDB block. But 2 full pcs of prawns. What can you expect ? The belachan is fantastic. Not that spicy. Smell of belachan is very strong. Unfortunately, very small portion. It will be good if the belachan serving is more. Shall try the Kolo mee next time.
Located in a relatively quiet foodcourt. Not sure why waiting time is 20-25mins when there are not many orders. The kolomee is bouncy n chewy with sweet oily sauce.
Nice to try if you are in the area
Tasty and reasonably priced sarawak dishes ($6.50 for sarawak laksa, $4.50 kampua mee). Authentic to what we tried in sarawak.
Mao You Sarawak Kolo Mee: A Simple Delight Worth Exploring
Craving an affordable and delicious lunch without compromising on flavor? Look no further than Mao You Sarawak Kolo Mee. Their signature dish, the Sarawak Kolo Mee (S$5/S$5.50), might seem deceptively simple at first glance, but it packs a punch in both taste and value.
Noodles of Delight:
Ditch your expectations of instant noodles, because Mao You's kolo mee takes things to a whole new level. Imagine springy, curly egg noodles, reminiscent of al dente pasta, boasting a bright yellow hue. These are no ordinary noodles – their unique texture provides a satisfying bite and perfectly absorbs the accompanying sauce.
Flavorful Symphony:
The sauce itself is a symphony of simplicity. Savory minced pork mingles with sweet and smoky notes of boiled char siew, all tied together by a light blend of aromatic soy sauce and shallot oil. A touch of chilli adds a subtle heat, depending on your spice preference. The result is an incredibly fragrant and balanced sauce that coats the noodles perfectly.
Hearty and Satisfying:
This isn't a dish for the faint of heart. Despite its seemingly simple ingredients, the portion size is generous, making it a truly hearty and satisfying meal. Don't be surprised if you find yourself coming back for more.
Beyond Kolo Mee:
While the Kolo Mee shines as the star, Mao You's repertoire doesn't end there. For those seeking a bolder, soupier experience, there's the Sarawak Laksa (S$6). This earthy and herbal broth uses a combination of tamarind paste and coconut milk, creating a unique flavor profile that's unlike the typical Singaporean laksa.
Affordable Gem:
With prices hovering around S$5-$6, Mao You offers incredible value for the quality and quantity of food you receive. This is a hidden gem for those seeking a delicious and affordable lunch option that won't break the bank.
Large Kolo Mee $5.50, Sarawak Laksa $5.50
Kolo mee here tastes very authentic, just like the popular ones in Kuching. The noodles are nice albeit a little over cooked (but that is personal preference). Topped with char siew and marinated minced meat, with noodles mixed in pork lard and shallot oil. Will be my go-to for any Sarawak kolo mee cravings!
Sarawak laksa has room for improvement. Vermicelli used is the nice thicker kind but was overcooked /soft. The broth is thick, fragrant but felt rather oily perhaps due to the coconut milk. Would be better if chicken was shredded and prawn whiskers were cut. Prawns are fresh.
Generally portions are on the smaller side. Service was quick, and able to pay via QR.
Kolo Mee doesn’t have that authentic taste 🙂↔️🙂↔️
The Laksa is a popular dish as well, made with a spicy coconut-based broth and served with noodles, shrimp, and bean sprouts…
The kolo mee is the closest I could find compared to authentic in kuching. The noodle has a very fragrant pork lard taste and the noodles are wetter in nature. Amount of Ingredients given is average, not too much yet not too little. $5 for small portion and $5.50 for a big portion. Not much difference in the ingredients, only more noodles, not significantly thou.
As for the laksa, i tried it in another occasion earlier but its not as good as the one i tasted in bedok. Bedok one is still more authentic, i have wrote reviews for it, you may want to try from there instead.
Wanted to give 4.5 star but not possible. Was contemplating between 4 or 5. I gave a 5star because it is not easy to find nice kolo mee in Singapore. And this is one of the better one. However if you dont drive, you might need to walk a little to find this place. But if you drive, good news because there are ample parking lots to choose from.
This is a $5.00 portion. Qué was there @11:46am on a Thursday. Service was nothing to rave about. Got confused 2 times. Call to collect but give wrong order. Next call mixed up with our order. Taste was there but there were very less ingredients for the price of $5.00. Can try if you are in this area.
Their Kolo Mee is really good! By all means must try! Kampua noodle is quite tasteless, suitable for people who dislike heavy flavor... and they are one of the rare hawkers who accept credit card payment!
$5.50 for big bowl kolo mee..
Not so bad, simple and tasty.
Char Siew a bit dry though, but I guess it's like that traditionally.
Only tried their laksa and it’s pretty good although I prefer the non curry based laksa broth. The broth is thicker with a light curry taste. Surprised to see the thick slices of chicken meat instead of shredded chicken. The meat is juicy but unable to soak the laksa broth. Something different and not in a bad way. Bonus point for peeled prawns. Overall, I won’t purposely come here to have laksa as there are many good ones nearer. Probably will try their kolo mee if I am in the area next time.
First time eating Sarawak Laksa. Tastes good. Not spicy. Squeeze in lime.
$6 for regular portion.
Delicious food and one of the best kolo mee in singapore. Portion is good for the pricing as well!!
Taste authentic and nice "Red" kolo mee. Recommended.
Typical coffeeshop set up. Do not serve to table, beepers given. Food can be a little less salty but it's my personal preference
Kolo mee taste is 5/10 and the noodle is not the original . More like wanton mee. Give it a try if you are curious. Can be improve
Order and say you want black one then they eat the soy sauce v nice
Had the kolo mee version of Sarawak laksa for lunch. Surprisingly tasty broth elavated the dish which is served with prawns, thinly sliced chicken and omelette, beansprouts, cilantro, lime and a tangy chilli which paired it beautifully. Don't forget to add lots of fried onion!
Good 👍 Very satisfied with having breakfast here
Tried their laksa previously and it was not bad. Chicken in chunks rather then strips, so looks like only a little. Had their kapua mee today and it was a big letdown. No vegetables, and only noodles with a few slices of char siew. Granted the taste was good as I could smell the onion oil and there was quite a bit of lard. But $4.50 for just noodles and a few slices of char siew is too pricey.
was very nice!!! very hard to find kolo mee nearby these days and this was very good :D
Not bad. Preferred the kolo mee to kampua. Tasty - but almost like eating instant noodle - esp. the kampua.
Best Kolomee and Kuching Laksa that I ever had but it is in Singapore and this is coming from a person who visits Sarawak Kuching on a yearly basis.
Best Kolomee and laksa in Singapore, very authentic. Their Kampua is also highly recommended. Their toppings are all prepared by the owner and not factory made 👍.
Good balance of taste and the ingredients are plenty.
AMK Bk422 Kolo mee is good if one is in the neighbourhood.
For those from sarawak and work In Singapore, this one of place for you try hometown noodle, Jin how lia
