Reviews of Margaret Drive Fishball Noodle
Years ago, Margaret Drive Hawker Centre had some great food. Apart from the famous chicken rice, there's the traditional Hakka Yong Tow Foo, Fried Dumplings and Hot and Sour Soup, and no less than 2 fishball noodles stalls.
So imagine my surprise when I came across this stall at Bendemeer Hawker Centre! Of course, I had to have it!
While I don't think the taste is the same as it was, the noodles were great. The chilli was lovely, it's not the explode in your mouth type, but more the kind that slowly builds up. Shiok.
The fishballs were not bad, and the soup was sweeter than I remember. My only gripe was I couldn't taste any vinegar. The addition of some good vinegar would definitely elevate this dish. Still, it's worth a try, if you're around the area.
For a market goer like me - this market is vibrant, dynamic and energizing!!!! So for atmosphere, one of the market you shouldn't go miss for feeling and food hunt!
I'm a Teo Chew from Ipoh - heaven of handmade food + minimal machine production; so I know what a fish ball like, not to mention, I'm a Teo Chew × F&B man.
Can't go miss for a basic courteous service of that old Teo Chew Man who taking an order.
As for the food - Nostalgic!! That fish ball was springy + hot + bitey and most importantly - tasty; this is when the flour, fish and salt uses right.
As for the noodle prep = this man has a heart bond recipe that makes the noodle taste just right!!!
Sum up: for 4.50! Taste of 6 Ping Pong Size ball, this is a treat not to be miss!!
Sarcasm to the Chua, why chewy?? You can do a chewy shit at home without fish but flour! Means, don't buy the ball in water via NTUC! Buy the cooked bobo in vacuum pack, that will serve you right :)
Brought my daughter here for fish ball noodles while she’s in singapore for holidays. Tried it for the first time and it was a good experience. Arrived at 9am and there was only 2 people in the queue so was able to get my food quickly. Ordered the mee pok dry while my daughter got the noodle soup. The noodles reminds me of the old school type that is simple with just noodles, fishballs, a generous amount of lard and spring onions. When executed well, these are all you need. The noodles are just very slightly undercooked which is how I like mine made and the chili sauce has ample heat. The fish balls are nice and bouncy and went especially well with the dry noodles sauce. The lard and spring onions round up the profile by giving a delicate but noticeable fragrance while you bite into the first spoonful of noodles. Will come back again for the noodles, the coffee 2 stalls away and the nice relaxed environment.
Not bad, the one at Mei Ling market is slightly better, I heard from the stall auntie that her young brother stall.
Fish ball is hard to bite type but I like their noodle and chili type they use.
Very authentic Teo Chew noodles, I highly recommend and this is a very stall run by second generation.
Decent fishball noodles with Margaret Drive Fishball Noodles at Bendemeer Market & Food Centre. They open REALLY early at 5.15am. Most of the estate is made up of the elderly folks.
Fishballs.. Do check the owner WhatsApp profile on the closing time as the stall will close when the fish balls are sold out.
Fishball is crunchy and flavourful. You cannot ask for better fishballs. Make sure you get there before 1pm on Sunday, they usually sell out by then.
Lovely Fishball noodles and friendly uncle!
