Reviews of Meat & Rice
4⭐️(can try if pass by), new style pork braised belly rice at hawker.
4⭐️ pork belly rice. It comes with half cooked egg, pickled veggies, pork belly, fried crispy bean skin. It taste base is soy sauce and pork belly flavour, tastes very similar to those more expensive maybe Japanese style restaurants’ bowls. The pork is not too fatty with mainly lean meat. Overall good quality.
4⭐️ pork trotter rice. Pork trotter tastes good and soft. Other things are similar to pork belly one.
Unexpectedly good.
Have had this place on my radar for a while and finally got to try. When I received my order I was thinking “seems ordinary” and might have made a mistake picking this out of the many gems in this hawker centre.
But I was wrong! This ordinary bowl is truly an extraordinary. The flavours and textures somehow work together to achieve a very memorable rice bowl.
Someone even returned for a second order after finishing his first as I was waiting.
Duck was sold out when I arrived so I had the chicken thigh bowl.
Truly cannot judge “this book by its cover”
Highly recommended
You've got something special going on. Loved the Kong bah bowl; super comfort food from the full flavour first spoonful to the bowl licking finale.
Especially enjoyed the texture that the fried wanton skin brought to the mouthfeel
Will be back with family, well done!
Food was Yums! Will definitely come back. They use pearl rice and there was adequate sauce to cover the rice. Meat was soft and tender, fat was kina melt in the mouth. My onsen egg yolk was not flowy, could have been more flowy, just giving the benefit of doubt that it is a one off. Liked the addition of the salted veg too that added a crunch, mushroom too was nice, tgt with the Tau gua. Wanton skin was just crunchy, not much taste. $6.50 overall for kongpapeng. Want to try their other items next time
Great to see young local hakwers! It's not easy job and it takes passion.
Take note that what I ordered was 'kongbapeng' (pork belly rice) but when I reached home and pour it out from the paper bowl to my own porcelain plate it was not kong ba (pork belly) but their pork leg/trotter bowl instead. Can see from photo. 👎👎
The person who just ordered before me ordered the pork trotter rice and the guy just continue cutting the pork trotter into my kongbapeng bowl.
I know it's just out of convenience and maybe the hawker thinks they are giving me more premium meat but I wanted my pork belly.
Need to serve your food with some integrity and principle lah. Don't take easy convenient shortcuts.
Taste wise, I think the braising sauce is very basic with some hint of cinnamon. Other spices are notably absent or even lesser hint. Maybe a quality control issue with regards to using spices? Maybe need to weigh the spices in proper proportion for the big pot.
I think Meat & Rice need to do more R&D and taste test to come up with a more savory sauce.
The meat is definitely tender and falls off the bone type but any braising meats if simmer for about 2 hours it will also be soft and tender.
At Beach Road Hawker Centre, there is another similar hawker called Braise. That is a much better pork bowl with a variety of cuts. That is much more satisfying.
Not recommended. 👍
Had the duckpeng.... duck was really nice! The braised duck, kiam chye, egg combination together with the rice was superb! (I wolfed 2 mouthful before I took this photo). Will come back for the kongbapeng!
30 Aug update: I had the kongbapeng (扣肉饭)today, the 扣肉 just melts in your mouth! Very flavourful!
I ordered kongbapeng $6.50 + duck meat + $3.50
I preferred pork than duck meat.
Super tender pork trotter that melts in your mouth, served with rice and an onsen egg. Fast service.
Really really nothing much to say except amazing. A great option for corporate orders: portioning was perfect unlike some stalls who serve quantity but low in quality. Meat and rice has a perfect balance in terms of quality and quantity. Will definitely order again without a thought
Been here twice already, and the kong ba peng is really the bomb, wanted to get the duck peng today but it is sold out, definitely will come earlier next round to try it man.
Food was really good - I ordered the kongbapeng. The braised pork was seasoned well and the chilli which is homemade was great
The braised pork rice bowl and braised duck rice bowl are especially delicious. Very friendly and humble young owners. Chanced upon it one evening and have been going back for more.
Amazing food, and amazing owners. Found them from the review on 8days and absolutely loved their food 👍🏻 $6.50 for their signature Kongbapeng is very worth the price, don’t forget to get the Chili Sauce!
Food is really awesome. Did takeaway and food did not disappoint. Pork is packed with flavour, onsen egg is cooked to perfection and fried tofu skin is still crispy and thats while it’s packed back home after 45mins! Imagine eating it hot there!! Yums!!
Chilli is great, could have been a tiny weeny spicer but that is just personal preference. All is still good! Highly recommended to try!
Tried both belly pork and duck rice both meat is cook to perfection flavour is on point what makes the bowl of rice stand up is the pickled vegetables and onsen egg. Portion is also generous ⭐️
The Kou Rou Fan is absolutely delicious! As someone who usually scrapes off fats and stays away from fatty meats, this rice was absolutely mindset changing. Husband was eating it for his lunch and I stole a bite, which became several and soon we had to buy a second bowl to keep marital harmony.. it was that good. We love that they served it will short grain rice and the balance of flavors of the salted vegetables, egg and meat is superb. Now to come back to try the duck before it sells out.
New found love! I’m a hawker food guy. This new stall in my vicinity opens. Was apprehensive to try at first, gave it a shot anyway. I was glad I went for it. Ordered duckpeng, man the duck meat is so tender on my first tasting, i instantly knew I’m gonna be a repeat customer.
On the second visit, wife tried the Kongbapeng(扣肉饭) same preparation style, meat is tender and supple. Gravy for the rice not overwhelming, tasted healthy and homestyle, will not get jelak type. The onsen egg is a bonus add to traditional dish a good mix towards a more protein based diet, plus it’s tasty and nice in the mouth.
Have multiple meats to option. Pork meats, chicken leg, trotters, duck meats
Sauce is just right not salty. Pork meats is very nice and tender soft.
MUST TRY!
Satisfying bowl, nice portion size and chilli. worth trying!
Ordered the Kong Ba Png , wah sedap! Ate and left no crumbs! The chilli is definitely the game changer! The owner is also very nice!
Food is superb. Stall owner friendly n take heart to prepare the dishes. Pls support the 2 young gentlemen. Super super good.
Come and try.. 👍
Super yummy run by two very friendly guys!
Very good bowl of Meat and Rice!
Tried the chicken thigh, pig trotter and duck. Tasty and tender. Duck is soft and surprising nice. Will try again when i visit ABC hawker.
