Reviews of New Lucky Claypot Rice
A popular claypot rice in this area. You can call in advance to place your order and close at 730pm for dinner. Claypot was great and priced $15 for a 2-person portion. The water cress soup ($6) was a little bland though.
Popular claypot rice in the area. Not sure if standard has changed but there was not so much burnt rice bits, but many rice turned to charcoal instead. Soup is nice and a must to complement the claypot rice which is very dry
30/7/2024
Had claypot chicken rice ($15), oyster sauce veg ($5) & watercress pork ribs soup ($6) for dinner, was quite ok. Claypot rice was slightly on the bland side, chicken could be more tender. We called 30mins in advance to shorten the waiting time.
Had dinner here. It’s definitely good. The rice is nicely cooked and crisp. Definitely better than that 1 Michelin star claypot rice at Chinatown food centre. 1 advice is to call in advance to book to cut short your waiting time. Was there at 520pm and was served at 540pm. You give them your estimated arrival time, the staff will take your contact number and gives you a booking number. Ingredient is just right for 2 diners. If you prefer more meat can top it up at $5. The old cucumber soup is light and taste great as well.
Can't wait to taste claypot rice especially not many hawker serve this time consuming preparation foods.
Today, good chance to try this since able to end work earlier. Reached around 6pm. Fortunately, not too crowded n long queue. But still need to wait 20 to 30min for their food preparation.
They serve it without adding dark soya sauce, that might be confusing for first timer as how much to add. Advise to add in 2 rounds to avoid over pouring n turn too dark too salty.
Secondly, they should adding oil just before serving, instead of letting customers do it themselves which they might have no clue why need to add oil.
In fact, the purpose is to avoid the rice burning beneath the claypot. And the tips is adding oil from the side around the claypot which is the easier to create balance crispy rice base, we called it 锅粑 in Chinese.
We customers afraid of making rice too oily, so my rice base does not turn so crispy and create a nice crisp rice pieces. But at least my rice not so oily.
For the flavor wise, slightly disappointed that the salty fish is small and not not blend well evenly in the rice thru the whole claypot.
Fortunately, the chicken was marinated very well, tender and delicious.
Price is reasonable $15 for 2 pax, portion is quite big. Poached vegetables with light sauce was good, $5 per plate is acceptable.
Overall, the whole eating experience was slightly underwhelming. Sorry to say, probably not revisit again. 😋
Jan 2024. My usual haunt for claypot rice other than Yuan Yuan. I loved its chicken because it was freshly cooked from scratch.
I upsized by adding $15 chicken.
Moved from Clementi coffee shop to Holland Drive. I'm amazed that it tastes exactly the same. They have very good soup too.
Tip: call to place your order before heading down. Unless you want to sit there and wait for your food to cook. Can't chope the soup or vegetable. So its best to reserve early.
The mixed flavour claypot rice was not bad. Especially enjoyed the salted fish and two types of Chinese sausages. The rice could be more flavourful though. The pork rib winter melon soup and oyster sauce vegetables were not bad too. It closed at about 1220pm at lunchtime on a weekday. Better to call ahead to order.
Good and Cheap Chicken Claypot Rice! I wouldnt say I'm a suitable judge in terms of traditional taste a claypot rice should have but id say i really enjoyed this smokey and steamy pot of rice! ❤️ You'll have to wait especially on peak of dinner hours.
The rice is perfectly cooked, and the chicken is tender.
$30 large claypot is just nice for 4 adults, and I like the soups and vegetables.
Had been wanting to try this place as I’ve heard so much about it but was put off by the long wait times. Then found out that you can order ahead, then show up at the arranged time to get your stuff and chow down.
Ordered the chicken and Chinese sausage claypot rice. Portion was $15 and ample for hearty appetites. Chicken was mostly boneless though there were little bones all round. Sausage tasted like it was liver based and quite good quality. Overall the dish was well flavored and the crispy bits were just right.
They are not open on Wednesday and seating is quite easy to get. Wish they had some birdseed chillies but alas, only chillie sauce/paste was available. They also had soups and side dishes but did not try. Will come back again.
Really tasty claypot chicken rice! The chicken was tender and the rice was flavourful. Better than Petaling Street 😉 Further, you can decide how much oil and soya sauce to add and mix.
Pre-ordering before heading down reduces our waiting time and allows us to enjoy our dinner as soon as we arrive. The rice was cooked perfectly, and the chicken meat was tender.
Claypot rice stall with one of the most delicious rice. Ingredients were so-so but love that I could taste and see the salted fish. Oyster sauce vegetables were super homely: literally oyster sauce on the vegetables (loved that they didn't overcook the vegetables). Staff were friendly and waiting time is shorter than what they estimated. The chilli paste tasted homely and nice too.
Went by myself for dinner. $15 for a pot - not really sure if this was the two person portion but I was able to finish most of it.
Taste is perfect. Really good clay pot. I waited about 30 min - not a big deal, they bring it to you and serve you at your hawker table. The rice and charred rice was perfect. You can add a bit of soy sauce and extra oil to make it your preference.
Claypot rice was not bad ($15 for 2 people). You get to mix the oil and black sauce into the rice by yourself. The lotus root soup was decent as well. Most of the eateries in the food centre were closed on a weekday night except for this stall. Quite a crowd for this stall I must say (wait time was about 30min)
15 dollars for 2 persons. Wok hei claypot. The soup tastes great too.
We ordered for 2 pax to share for $15 and the portion is really just nice! We also ordered lotus root soup that costs $5 on the side and the soup was tasty- it came with super tender pork and chicken feet which I thought was really unique.
Would definitely recommend to call before coming and eating on the spot rather than taking it away. I would have given this place 5 stars but the wait staff got our order number wrong despite making an advanced reservation and didn't really seem apologetic for it.. But will still come back again for the food.
One of the best claypot rice in Singapore. Good amount of chicken, sausages with small bites of salted fish! Pour whatever amount of dark soya sauce and oil to suit your taste. Love it! Do call early to place order to save waiting time.
Been around for more than 30 years. Open at 5pm usually sold out by 7pm. 😏
Overall is good claypot rice, though i prefer more fragrant black sauce.
The soup is nice!
Call to order before you arrive so you can cut short the typical 15-20 mins cooking time.
Tips: Remove the ingredients, pour some black soya sauce onto rice, give it a good stir and put back the ingredients. Serve.
Nice burned, charred rice taste. Smallest size is for 2 pax, so single pax should abstain or have a big appetite.
Went on Sunday at lunch time, and there was no queue.
There are only 2 types of claypot rice to choose from.
Always walked past and the fragrance was fantastic. Managed to try today but somehow just don’t feel satisfied by it. There may be others which are tastier
Ordered a 2pax portion for 15 with an extra 5 for more toppings. Really good marinated chicken and generous amount of ingredients. We managed to split it to about 3 bowls each. Just wanna add that service was really good too
Have been here multiple times, but am coming to realise that the standard is variable. The rice at bottom is normally burned and the food leaves me very thirsty at the end of the meal. They are also very busy and the person handling the order can be quite brash and sound rude. Pity as I liked it more in the past. There are many places serving claypot rice, but without the attitude.
Seems like there is a good amount of hype for this place so decided to try it. Called in in advance to make a pre-order because of the long waiting time. The process was smooth, just have to remember your queue number because you’ll need to tell them when you arrive. The claypot was slightly above average, personally not worth it if you have to queue for one hour. Chicken was tender and well marinated. Had a soup as well which was average at best. Overall feels like a good home cooked meal. But if you’re expecting to have your mind blown by the claypot rice.. probably not here.
Good and tasty meal. Generous portions.
Queue can be long during peak hours. Cooking the clay pot rice takes some time, ensure that you have ample time.
Personally I believe that getting a large pot for sharing is ideal as the flavour of the ingredients are well mixed.
Overall the Five Spice and Chicken rice claypot is under my expectation.
1. The rice is over cook, the based is not crispy but "chao da" (black), hence instead of the aroma of rice it is chaoda smell.
2. The black soya sauce the aroma is not there anymore, and more toward sweet
3. I didn't taste the salted fish at all. But my friend had a whole chunk of it. The claypot does not have the salted fish aroma.
4. The chicken is not pre-marianated
But overall comment is, I don't mind to eat there again, provided the waiting is not long. If you asked me specially travel down for this again, I will consider twice.
Definitely one of the better claypot out there, very generous portion, prepare to wait but they do give you a buzzer.
The rice is well-seasoned and chicken is fatty and juicy. Definitely one of the go-to at this hawker.
The best claypot rice in Singapore. The chicken is extremely tender. Waiting time will be short if you call to reserve.
Went here last week. Had high expectation because of the good reviews coming from everyone. Came there around 7pm. and it's like the whole hawker centre is closed except for this claypot rice. Everyone there is like eating this claypot.
Got the claypot and they also gave you 2 sauces, the oil and the sweet soy sauce. I put a bit of soy sauce and oil and mix it together. Overall this place was good.. but still far from super great or mind blowing. The meat is ok, lots of bones, the charred rice is ok. Nothing really special I feel. But it might be that I put wrong amount of soy sauce and oil.
I believe I will surely give it a try one more time and give this place another chance. But overall, right now I can only give this 4 stars
Delicious claypot rice but prepared to wait for a hour. 15 bucks for 2 pax.. 4 bucks for soup.
Hawker was clean and thr food was great
The wait was really long, suggest u call in before u head over but super worth the wait because we devoured it
Shortly After we got it, the store closed up as they sold out
I think the claypot rice is overrated. It tastes just alright, but not amazing. Might come back next time to try the other claypot rice with pork.
Claypot rice is quite nice, definitely one of the better ones in sg. Calling in was easy and could specify pickup time as well
Not the best claypot rice.
Overwhelming dark soy source taste
Chicken with a lot of bones inside 😑
Preorder your food to reduce the waiting time! One of the best claypot I have tried.. 4 🌟 due to the fact the the uncle wasn’t that friendly but it was ok ok la!
Food is nice but need to wait very long for it. There is no drink store open during dinner time
Check your orders! I have been ordering here for a long time. Large claypot rice ($25) used to be packed in a larger box. Now, it is packed in the same box size as the $20 order. Price may have been secretly increased (or they charged incorrectly this time). Ingredients are getting lesser too.
The price is on the steeper end and there were quite a few bones in the chicken.
$20 with added chicken and salted fish for a two person portion that one person could eat.
The hawker is patient and waited for me to arrive when I called ahead to order.
Old customer from their clementi location. Very fragrant rice and tender chicken. Recommended for groups.
One hour and 40min for the wait is way too long. I arrived at 610pm on Sunday, was told the wait was 1 hour, since my number was 23 I felt confident that the wait should be fine. But the wait since number 15 is excruciating. Every pot is sent to other tables without numbers.
So, basically without calling in advance, walk in customers will wait in an erratic sequence and need to wait till every customer who strolled in reserved is served first.
Like the food, hate the system, the servers were impatient.
A little longer waiting time.
Pre-order is advisable @ 67787808.
Do check the operating hours.
Though its in the Michelin guide it’s not the tastiest I’ve had.
Salted fish taste is not strong.
The crispy rice at the bottom is too burn to consume.
No mushroom.
Rice cooked is perfect not soggy.
Lup Cheong is sufficient so no need to add more.
They opened for dinner at 5:30pm so I called and reserved at 4:00pm. They will give you a reservation no and you just inform them your no upon arrival. A must is to add chicken, add salted fish and add sausage even though it cost $5 for every additional ingredients.
When your Claypot arrives, remove all the chicken so you have space and easier to stir.
Drizzle the oil on the side of the Claypot and stir and hear the cracking sound. Then add the black soya sauce and stir.
And enjoy!
One of the best clay pot rice. For takeaway u will need to call them and arrive at the appointed time as they time the cooking to roughly your pick up time do you meal is still hot
The clay pot rice is flavour some with good chunks of chicken and lap cheong and yun cheong. Strongly recommended to call and order before coming, otherwise be prepared to wait up to 45 mins during peak hours! We called ahead and when we arrived the piping hot clay pot rice was ready!
Famous for their claypot rice and long queues. $20 for 3-4 pax and double that price for 5 adults. Can add on stir fry vegetables and soups to go with your meals.
Delicious claypot rice - one of the best around the area. Need to be mindful of the long waiting time, especially for dinners. Might be sold out if you arrive too late for lunch on a working day (>1pm from my last experience)
Easily one of the better claypot rice in Singapore. The chicken is flavourful and tender. Rice is fragrant. Have been following this stall since their days at Bukit Merah. Expect to wait due to the popularity of this stall.
Serves very good claypot dishes. It tends to be very busy here, especially around dinner times. It is recommended to call them to order your food ahead of your arrival.
The claypot rice here is still savoury. Ordered one p ot for four with added ingredients costs $30.00 and a plate of vegetables costs$6.00.
Nice and airy location as its near the road. Call and order at least an hour to cut the waiting time. Selling cheap soups to go with your meals
one of the better claypot rice, operate at evening in a empty food center, plenty of seats but waiting time varies
Food is so good here, only thing is drinks not available as the drink stalls might be closed, have to get at coffeshop
The claypot is cooked only when you buy. Best if you call and reserved else expect long wait.
Best claypot rice in Singapore, advise to call in for preorder to avoid disappointment.
Have been following this stall for more than 30 years. One of the best Claypot rice I have eaten.
One of the best clay pot rice in Singapore
Like the claypot very much! However the waiting time is really 1hour. Possible to make a call to make your order first.
Claypot rice here is alright! Can't say it's the best for the price paid, but it's still not that bad.
Food still nice but the person taking order is not friendly at all
Really good claypot rice. Do call to order before hand.
Good Claypot Rice. 👍👍👍
😋Decent nostalgic claypot rice.
•The use of charcoal enrich the fragrance of rice.
Nice food. Will revisit again soon
Nice claypot but ingredients abit little
Sun Hong Yun Claypot Rice is a food court stall that has been on the Michelin Must-Bour List in Singapore for several years. It always felt far away before. After moving, my cute, interesting and caring colleagues were walking around together and found that it was near home, so I happily went there.
Fortunately, I came late, and I saw the notice that the waiting time is at least 20 minutes. There are three types of clay pot rice to choose from. Of course, I chose the five-flavor rice. The five flavors refer to chicken, salted fish and sausage. You can choose the size of two, three or four, and the amounts are different. I ordered the smallest two and added a watercress soup. After placing the order, I picked up the sign.
When the meal is ready, someone will push the clay pot and the matching soy sauce and oil to the table. The soy sauce is a very thick kind of green soy sauce, a bit sweet, so you need to mix it with some soy sauce to make it delicious. But I don’t quite know why the oil needs to be prepared separately, and I couldn’t figure out how the locals eat even though I looked around. There are a lot of five kinds of ingredients, the chicken is very smooth and the meat is tight. My daughter thinks it tastes like a frog. The rice has distinct grain texture, is harder, and has a smooth texture. The rice cooker is hard and burnt and difficult to scrape off. Overall it's okay.
The soup is good, a big bowl, it is really steamed bowl by bowl from the big steamer in the last photo. It must have been steamed for a long time, and the cartilage has become crystal clear, making it effortless to chew.
If there are not many people, you can come here to eat again, or just a bowl of soup is a good choice
It usually takes 30-40 minutes as it starts cooking after you place your order. During busy times, it takes 60-90 minutes. It is necessary to visit with plenty of time. Orders are for a minimum of two people, so it's impossible to try it alone.
There are two types of sauces with different tastes, but the second half is quite difficult.
Claypot! Even right after the coronavirus outbreak, this restaurant was the only one open and the calls for reservations kept coming. It's also loved by locals!
The price starts at $15 for 2 people, and some people asked for side dishes such as vegetables and bak kut teh, but I think 2 servings is enough for 2 adults.
Also served at the desk are thick soy sauce and oil. The clay pot itself here is more like a cooked rice without much toppings, so you add the flavor yourself. Don't be surprised if other restaurants often have the sauce already on top.
We didn't add oil because we thought it would be bad for the health, but then the rice got burnt, so it seems like a good idea to add a little bit of oil.
There are other famous clay pot shops, so I think it would be a good idea to compare them. Personally, I like the simple taste and it's delicious, but I think it would be better if it had a little more punch.
