Reviews of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve
If you have seen most of the sights in Singapore city, take a break from the city and come here. This is an amazingly well done trail through stunning wetlands. Beautiful Mangrove trees, birds, fish, lizards (and maybe even crocodiles, monkeys or snakes). Had a brilliant time here! 10/10
nice place to visit it's like a DeForest then you can see a lot of animals like in all the lizards crocodiles squirrels some that made them Komodo like but you can feel the DeForest feeling and you can see a lot of birds insects and fish was really very very nice one
Best raw wildlife experience you could have in Singapore. Birds and animals in plenty and the highlight are the estuarine crocodiles and for a beginner you may even wonder if crocodiles can be left open in the river like that.. must visit. Take a full day- but pack your lunch - limited lunch options only. Be prepared to not get a cab back home ( there is a bus stop - don’t rely on all bus stops - some bus is available ONLY on Sundays, but if you walk a bit you will get a bus) or best is to rent a a car and come.. you will be very close to Malaysia that you will get Malaysia in phone range.
Visited Sungei Buroh Wetland Reserve after completing the Kranji Nature Trail.
Hike along Migratory Bird Trail.
Best to visit the toilet before hike.
The Sungei Wetland Biosphere Reserve is a nature lover's paradise. Its lush tropical environment, diverse wildlife, and well-maintained boardwalks offer an immersive experience. Guided tours provide fascinating insights into the ecosystem and conservation efforts. The reserve's commitment to sustainable tourism is evident in its eco-friendly facilities and knowledgeable staff. Perfect for birdwatching and exploring unique flora and fauna, Sungei Wetland is a must-visit for eco-tourists.
Insects, crocodiles, and plants...oh my. It's a really fun place to pace yourself and stroll. Lots of sights. Even saw a snake 🐍.
A frequent here to look for wild animals especially the estuarine crocodiles and the migrating birds. Good to know that these animals still thrive in Singapore!
I can almost always find interesting animals to see here, especially in low tide. my only complaint is that it's not very accessible by public transport.
Even on a weekend, it is not too crowded as compared to the usual park connectors, possibly cuz it is really far off. So it is very pleasant to enjoy nature. Remember to keep conversations volume as low as possible if you wana see animals.
We spotted an owl active in the day, quite a bonus for us. Also got to see Tailless, the alpha crocodile of the reserve. Lotsa monitor lizards crowding the pathway so watch where you are going here.
I enjoyed listening to the sound of nature especially when there are different species of birds calling out at the same time. The symphony of nature.
This is probably one of the last places in Singapore that you get to see crocs in the wild. Lots of fresh air and greenery. Let's treasure this.
Spend my afternoon time here. Enjoying the sound and view of nature. Manage to capture some photos. Still, there are certain places that I haven't explored. Will go when I have time.
Wetland walk is easy for all age group. Prepare for mosquitoes as there are alot.
Bring water as the weather is hot and humid.
Nice Reserves with few Crocodiles & Varans. Not a lot of bird at the time we went (Feb). Nice for a short walk (1.9km)
A nice place to visit in Singapore. It’s a swamp land. Beautiful jungle, safe walkways in between. Can see crocodiles, lizards, varieties of birds and fishes. Mind blowing environments. Have a canteen, good free parking, no entry fees.
Went after a storm on weekday at about 4.30pm. Saw the crocs about 2km into the wetland circuit. Saw Monitor Lizards, Longtailed monkeys, loads of birds ... Went to the Coastal trail and saw a 3.5m King Cobra eating a 2.5m python ... Really nice visit :)
Tip - go on public holidays or weekends so you can take 925M from Kranji MRT to the reserve and back 😊
Absolutely an amazing place. Very natural with wild crocodiles that have sea access, so are there by choice. Saw two crocodiles one of which was huge. Take plenty of water. Free admission.
It was an enjoyable 4 hours walk. Weather was good, not too hot. Managed to see lots of birds, spiders, monitor lizards, otters all within a near distance. Spotted just 1 crocodile. Not overly tiring, a good place for family outing.
Just that it's difficult to get Grab or taxi leaving the reserve, so if you go by public transport, please do take note of the shuttle bus that takes you to the mrt station, leaving the reserve using the shuttle bus is much easier.
Wonderful hike with my sister with cooling weather today. New vending machine discovered near to toilet. Chef-in-Box serves wholesome chef-cooked meals in a box, using fresh ingredients without added colourings, flavourings or preservatives. They use cutting edge snap-freeze technology to seal in all the nutrients, so each meal is guaranteed of its freshness and yet nutritious. And they provided table and chair, of course fan too. Very comfortable places to chill. See photo.
One of the long walk trail you can experience in Singapore. The place opens at 7 AM, its good to reach at opening time to see the beautiful sunrise.
1) Good place for nature lover
2) Beautiful place to witness Sunrise
3) Moderate walk - nearly 4-5 km in total (including Coastal Trail, Forest Trail, Mid-canopy walk and Migratory Bird Trail)
4) This place is famous for Bird photography. you can find nearly 6 hiding place for bird photography
5) if you are lucky, you can witness crocodiles and Monitor lizards
Things to carry:
1) enough water and snacks (please do not litter)
2) binocular for kids
3) umbrella
Transport connectivity:
2 Car parks.
15 min travel by public transport(Bus # 925) from Kranji MRT station
excellent for animal spotting. biawak, crocodiles and birds of various stripe without any particular effort. walkway basically separates the seaward side from the landward, with the big tidal pools on land side of separation. this is somewhat artifical, and is why the crocodile crossed the road.
for birds, use passive sonar. they won't call in your presence, but listen for movement in the trees.
Went on 28 Apr 23 (Fri), 7am to catch sunrise. Good place to catch sunrise with the sea giving spectacular reflection for photo-shots. Also pleasant to walk in the park. The wetland here is nicer than that in Pasir Ris, with more to see - we even spotted a crocodile and an eagle family with 2 eaglets. The various pots also provided nice photo spots. Eagle point is a good spot to catch sunrise and watch the fishes jumping up from the sea (lesser once it gets hotter, like after 9am). Not many visitors, but there were several groups of students from a Primary and a Secondary school. At 7ish in the morning, the place is very quite; advisable not to ho alone for ladies. Overall, a nice place to visit though it's quite way off in a corner of Singapore.
One of our all-time favourite nature hangouts. The migratory bird trail is a short and easy trail for adults and kids. Keep a lookout for estuarine crocodiles, migratory and resident birds, monitor lizards, squirrels, dog-faced fruit bats and snakes. If heading to the mangrove trail, remember to apply mosquito repellent.
Nice place to have a jogging or nature walk. The combination of sea view and forest. Not crowded. Breathe fresh air. A lil bit far and remote, driving to the location is recommended. Nearby there is a nice restaurant (Bistro) to chill out. They sell many beautiful plants and house decoration too. Good place for family outing!
Very relaxing and very beautiful scenery.
Best to visit on the day with fine weather and clear visibility! Bring water bottle to hydrate yourself. Photos taken around 10 am.
A free wetland reserve, which is across the sea with Malaysia. The scenery and experience are great, but the location is far away from downtown, only NO.925 bus can reach the entrance. There are many animals but you need to be very careful to find them.
Free entry
Resident bats, crocs and birds
Migratory birds
Nice walk
What an adventure!
So raw. So pure. So natural.
I have been wanting to visit Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve for ages. I made it today finally! I felt like I was travelling out of SG.
NParks is doing a great great job of preserving the nature at its best. THANK YOU!
From the well-maintained landscape, mangrove areas, bird viewing areas, cleanliness of public areas, all can't be possibly done without the thorough planning and the dedication of the workers - Your truly foreign workers for their good work.
A highly recommended place to explore if you love nature. It was like stepping into the not-so-Singapore side of Singapore overseeing Malaysia.
Nonetheless, the Reserve might not be the best place for young kids if they are scared of the sound of nature, sights of wild animals, forestry landscape, to name a few.
We spotted so many wild plants and of course wild animals as well.
Reminder:
1) There's only one way in and out within the Reserve unless you walk along the main road. So, please plan ahead - your route and your energy level.
2) FREE shuttle bus service available during PH and weekends.
3) Choose your car park based on your need - bird viewing or mangrove trails to save you time and energy
4) Bring an umbrella or a stick. I felt safer
5) Check the weather
6) Check the tide - it determines what you might want to see
You're welcome 😊
Nature reserve... Many wild animals ranging from big monitor lizards, cobras, crocodiles, migratory birds (egret, heron, eagles) and many mosquitoes. Bring along a mosquitoes repellent and watch your steps along the way be careful of passing snakes and sun bathing monitor lizards. Take a pciture of the emergency contact number on the sign board in case of any emergency situations like snake bites...
Great weekend visit to see the intersection of urban and wetlands in Singapore. Do plan the trip of low tide times like early morning 8.00 am to catch the birds, monitor lizards, crocodiles. The facility is nicely maintained good spend half a day here. Great place for nature lovers!
It was still drizzling when we started our walk for about 2hrs, generally flat ground and lots of lizards and snakes spotted on the day (warn by the staff at visitor centre)
Suitable to bring your kids and old folks for a casual walk. The scenery are really awesome and good for taking a break from the four walls at work.
Look up and you will find hidden treasure among the trees during your walk [;
Nice place, and if you are lucky, you get to spot a few crocs & the famous tailess! Head towards the bridge near the Wetland reserve centre for higher chance of viewing crocs
It is a nice and easy walk (2 hours) that suits people of different ages. We spotted some exotic animals including a salt water crocodile. There are hide-outs to observe migratory birds which is around from Sept to March. It is highly educational for kids.
If you have more time go to migratory bird path. However went to the forest track and its manageable for two young kids. They were excited to see mudskippers , crossing the hanging bridge, identifying small creatures along the way. Too bad there are lots of trash swept away from the sea that stuck between mangrooves.
Visited on weekday & had a pleasant stroll through the reserve. It was relatively empty on weekday morning which was great. Observed many monitor lizards, crocodiles, and migratory birds. Took us 4h for our hike and we haven’t even managed to finish the entire park. Entered the wetland reserve which took us 1h around the entire circle which was pretty tiring. Nice structures around for photography :)
Took a bus 925 from Kranji mrt.
Definitely a nice place to take family too but have to make sure that you are going early in the morning. Bring lots of mosquito repellent spray/patches/band as it is infested with them. And water too because it does get hot by around 10am
Splendid nature park/reserve to bring the family for a bit of nature spotting. Total track distance of about 4 km. Managed to spot crocodile, monitor lizards, mudskippers and a variety of other mangrove fauna and flora.
A bit crowded on weekend due to Singaporean not being able to travel.
One of the place that you can hear crickets in broad daylight. A nice view of Johore and natural swamps and wildlife. Saw a monitor lizard while walking in the park. There are bored watchers with the long lenses trying to snap pics of migratory birds feeding at the swamp lands. A must go at least once in a lifetime for Singaporeans.
The wild side of Singapore was peaceful and lovely to walk around. Was able to see a huge saltwater crocodile, monitor lizard and various birds. A refreshing change from the manicured parks and far from the craziness of the city centre
A splendid place which is less noise and peace. Feel relaxed walking there. Inside also have museum and bird park.
Peaceful, calm, quiet, and serene with only the sound of nature. A must go destination. Weekday seems not crowded.
Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve is one of the fascinating nature walk in Singapore.
An escape from the concrete jungle, you can indulge in greenery and scenery. Take your time off and come with your cameras.
Do prepare a bottle of water and some repellent. And if you are lucky, you may see crocodiles lurking near the banks (not the savings bank if you know what I mean)
Area still under construction to improve our experience but the whole place is the best we can get to nature on mainland singapore.
Totally thrilled about walking around this reserve and loving it as it does takes your mind off the hectic urban lifestyle.
Furthermore it's free..but having your own transport would be a big bonus. Nonetheless there are shuttle buses catered so, not an excuse not to go and visit =)
Rmb, water bottle, repellent, umbrella(in case it rains) and wear covered shoes for ease of walking
Nice place to see nature, see crocodile in the wild. Definitively a good place to bring kids to introduced them to nature while doing a bit of hiking. Just be aware and follow the signs. There are clean bathrooms and drinking fountains to soothe the thirst.
I saw a crocodile in this area also so place follow the signs.
Really amazing place in Singapore to visit for a nature retreat. Air is fresh and the trails offer so much to see and explore! This place has lots of wildlife and we were lucky to catch a few of those including the more popular ones like the birds and reptiles living in the reserve.
Highly recommended to visit, the only place in Singapore to properly spot wild crocodiles, for free! Even better than the zoo. Look out for tailless at the main bridge!
Free to visit, although it is more difficult to get there and back due to the location. Saw lots of wildlife and tgd views were amazing.
definitely a very good place to just take a walk and enjoy the nature here, both fauna and flora - and to get away from the concrete jungle that is Singapore. facilities available here are surprisingly good too, and well maintained.
You have to be quiet and keep your eyes peeled to catch sight of the more interesting wildlife...It is as huge as many other wetlands but for a small area, you can get very lucky with some resilience...
An easy exploratory walk for everyone of all ages and abilities. Plenty of wild flora and fauna to spot. Look out for the resident alligator too.
A god tier nature attraction in Singapore, very well reserved and beautiful, it lets you get close and fully immerse into wetland environment. I went in on a Tuesday afternoon and the park was very empty and quiet (except some construction works inside), even though the area isn't that big, I still managed to walk 3.5 hours going through every trail and enjoy myself in the breathtaking nature (15:30-19:00). I was the last visitor out at 7pm. Afterwards you can walk along the bridge behind to capture the stunning Malaysia border coastline and sunset by the Kranji reservoir beach, you can even hear the loudspeakers from the mosque on the other side. It's a sight you will never forget .
About the safety, the crocodiles won't attack you if you see them, and they're the small size ones so not even close to threatening. But do be careful of a few wild dogs that live inside, the park ranger says they only bark at you and never attack, but those dogs are definitely not friendly and you would want to turn around if you see one. Also, use mosquito spray or patches.
Traffic Method: Take 925 bus at Kranji station bus stop Berth 2, get off at Kranji Reservoir Park, you'll see the entrance top right on the main road. Same when going back.
The last 925 bus back to Kranji is 8pm, so watch out for the time if you don't want to take Grab.
Seen some crocodiles near the main entrance of the reserve and various Komodo dragons - was hoping to see a few eagles at Eagle Point. There are currently renovations and constructions going around so it wasn't an ideal time to visit.
Great place to get a peek at nature. Saw a crocodile, a king cobra (very lucky to have a park staff point that out to us in a crowd), loads of hulking monitor lizards and of course lots of birbs within a short 2 hours.
Bring mosquito repellent, it's a marsh.
I went on a school trip there and saw lots of animals,
Return to nature! Experience close encounters with wild animals.
When I came here to explore during the dry season, I only saw the common squirrels and herons. There are many viewing platforms and bird-watching pavilions, as well as many pavilions with different heights and angles where you can rest and feel the breeze of nature. It's not particularly hot at noon, so it's a good time to slowly feel and get close to nature. You can spend a few hours escaping from your usual busy life and recuperate your body, mind and soul. What's more special is that there are several water drop-shaped pavilions, which will not look out of place with nature. The relevant government departments have really put their heart into the conception and design, so that people can easily go in the small tropical rainforest. Experience and hiking can also be used as a check-in attraction to guide you. 👍👍
Made with our 7 year old son, magnificent reserve absolutely to keep!!! Natural adventure and sensation guaranteed thanks to the well-camouflaged crocodiles sometimes close to the path and the giant lizards which sometimes like to wander along the path. This reserve will delight lovers of true nature and adventurers. It is also a very good place to explain to our children how rare and fragile these places have become, enough to teach them the essentials and make the family outing attractive by placing the children as explorers!
I took a taxi from Kranji Station on the MRT North South Line. It didn't seem to be a major place locally either, and the first taxi I took asked me to get off because I didn't know where it was.
You can enjoy trekking in the wetlands overlooking Johor Bahru in Malaysia on the opposite shore. The roads vary considerably depending on the location, with some having wooden decks and others having uneven dirt roads.
There are wild crocodiles and large lizards lying all over the place, and if you're not careful, you might step on them.
We didn't see any vending machines along the way, so we recommend bringing enough drinks with you.
Amazing! I like this place💕
The Sungei Buloh Waterland Reserve will surprise you. If you want to stay away from the urban concrete forest for a while, you might as well go to this ecological treasure located in the northeast of 🇸🇬 to breathe fresh air and be able to walk through it. In this ecologically harmonious wetland, unexpected encounters with crocodiles, otters and sunbirds living in their natural habitat👍👍
You can enjoy a 2-3 hour hike. It's full of nature, but the sidewalks are in good condition and easy to walk, so it's also recommended for beginners. There are a wide variety of animals you can meet, including monitor lizards, crocodiles, bats, turtles, and skippers. There are many types of migratory birds and fish, and you can spend your time relaxing here.
A real insider tip!
Especially in the morning hours there is very little going on and you are basically alone. We were able to see a variety of reptiles, spiders, a hornbill, otters, various other bird species such as eagles and herons and even a viper. Unfortunately only a brief crocodile from a long distance away. But these swim here too! The journey is of course a little longer but can be easily managed by bus.
So a clear recommendation for anyone who wants to experience some wild nature in the city of superlatives! And like many things in the country, entry is free.
Don't forget insect repellent and it's best to wear long, light clothing.
Singapore's natural ecological reserves are suitable for enjoying natural scenery and animals.
In terms of animals, it is the best place to encounter wild crocodiles.
Monitor lizards, water birds, and fish can be seen every time.
Owls, mudskippers, crabs, and horseshoe crabs are also often seen if you pay attention.
The northern seaside faces Malaysia across the sea.
Visited in September 2017.
Very pretty, you have to be patient. But it's worth the detour if you want to observe animals in nature: crocodiles, herons, otters, spiders, kingfishers, fish and other birds of all kinds!
Not to mention a magnificent view of Malaysia
The reserve, also known as Sungei Buloh Nature Park, is a nature reserve located in the northwest of Singapore. The reserve was established in 2002 and became Singapore's first wetland reserve with an area of up to 130 hectares. Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve was recognized as an ASEAN heritage garden in 2003. This is home to many types of birds, storks, wild animals, etc. Here you can also see moths. The largest in Southeast Asia is the starling butterfly or even the saltwater crocodile.
