Reviews of Uncle Kun Delicacies #01-03
Went for a yoga sesh nearby and came here right after for dimsum. Couldn’t decide to go for the HK glutinous rice or congee at first. In the end went for the latter cos I think we had enough of Bak chang lately. And also got myself siew mai of course. The congee is 👍🏻 without any extra soy sauce or white pepper. And I love the consistency. As for the siew mai, it’s too mushy for my liking. I prefer more texture. FYI, do have your cash as there is no e-payment.
My wife and I reached the stall at 11.30am on a weekday and all the dim sum items were already sold out. Uncle Kun explained that they make limited items each day, and most items are sold out by mid-morning. He recommended congees and yam cake as these were still available.
We ordered century-egg-with-pork congee and "HK sampan" congee. Both had generous portions of ingredients. Sesame oil was drizzled lightly on top of the congee and this accentuated the flavours. The steamed yam cake was moist, soft and equally generous in portions.
The friendly Uncle Kun chatted with us and explained his working experience and the hard work shared with his wife and relative. As he is elderly, he just make enough items for sale in the morning. As we ate, the stall was already being cleaned for closing. All the items are handmade daily in the early morning when most of us are still sleeping. By the time the breakfast crowd arrives, the items are ready for sale. A few items are made specially for the weekends only. During Chinese New Year, he makes traditional delicacies and chestnut dessert, and these are available on advance orders.
We enjoyed our chat with Uncle Kun, and will return to enjoy his dim sum, making sure that we will arrive earlier in the morning.
Worth the travel for the dim sum. Unfortunately when I reached, some were sold out.
To put, if you feel swee choon is good, this store is miles ahead of them.
Good dim sum not to be missed. Reasonable prices for a feast. But do expect queues for breakfast and lunch, you’d probably wait not too long at off peak hours.
Tasty authentic hk food.
