Reviews of Unforgettable Carrot Cake 忘不了萝卜糕
I rate this 3.5 stars. I come to this place once a mth for work, today decided to try carrot cake black with chilli. Ordered $4 portion, pretty value.
Taste is not the best but still better than those fried at food courts by non locals, i cant eat food that dont taste authentic. Still prefer to support our local hawkers when i come to hawker centres.
Chilli is medium hot for me, and the kueh is soft with good mix of cai po and egg, would prefer more spring onions and less charred pieces (not to good for health)
Visited on a Saturday lunchtime and was surprised it wasn't crowded. There were only 2 people in front of me.
Was deciding whether to eat the white or the black one but reading from recommendations black is the more popular one so I ordered one to try.
Didn't wait more than 10 minutes and got my plate of hot and sweet smelling carrot cake.
Though the sign says 3.50, 4 and 5, the lady only allowed me to order minimum 4 dollars for the smallest plate. The portion for the 4 dollars looked decent and there was nothing to complain about it. One look the carrot cake was slightly in bigger chunks, which I preferred.
Have to say the wok hey was good and it tasted pretty good. I would say it's one of the better carrot cake I have tried. There was quite a bit of the eggs and also what I loved was there were chunks of these crispy carrot cake, not sure if it's considered burnt but it really complements the texture and the crunch of the plate of carrot cake.
Not overly sweet and loved the chili as well, good plate of carrot cake which I will probably travel the distance to try again.
The carrot cake was very dry and there were many hard, burnt, black pieces. Even the eggs were overcooked. No wok lei. Average at best.
Very good carrot cake with flavourful yet not too overwhelming black sauce! I can taste the carrot cake pieces as it’s more chunky. Suits those who don’t like too charred.
Me and wife can be quite picky on carrot cake. But we both love the black carrot cake. Sauce is tasty, can even add egg for 1 dollar. Been a regular customer since.
I read some reviews that the elderly couple are unfriendly. Imagine tolling away long hours under heat and perspiration as a hawker for many years. What do you expect? Don't be entitled! Just smile and compliment their food. They can be nice people if you are considerate.
Also don't be annoying and ask for half black half white. They already have a big sign indicating it. In fact don't ask for any kind of half half. Just order black or white, simple.
Portion is big for $4. But taste wise is normal.
Ordered the white version of the fried carrot cake. It was good, not overly oily.
Updated on 7 July 2023:
Today, I ordered the black version. It was fine but compared to the white version I had previously, I think the white version is far better.
Lives up to its name in terms of taste and texture! Can’t mix black and white, so I bought one plate each!
The husband is more attentive and more focus.in delivering the carrot cake, while the wife seem more focused on collecting the cash.
The white salty taste bwtter than the black sweet type
Truly live up to its name. 忘不了(Unforgettable) a
A total of 6 eggs and kueh fried to to perfection.
Great service and even better carrot cake! Worth the trip.
The food was so good, each bite there was some char, making it crispy! The combination of the crispy char, egg and fluffy carrot cake really goes together well! For me personally,I would order the black spicy one. This combination is just on spot!A little hot tho cus hawker centre
Had black fried carrot cake ($4) for breakfast, was ok
Here's my bro Amos. 😄 He helps out at his family stall on Saturdays. (His brother helps on Sundays!) I was admittedly first fascinated by the name of this stall. (What is goreng lontong??? It's carrot cake lah!) but was then super happy to find this treasure. Its taste is unique (black version) and the eggs in it (oh yes please!!!) is generous ($4)! It's become my family's fav carrot cake in Singapore. 👍👍👍 (Part of it is maybe it's just so awesome to meet nice and really honest and good folks working as a family together. They gave great energy and great vibes. Would make great friends these guys. 😊Great inspiration for me to see them on the weekends whenever I drop by after my runs.) 😃😃 (Ps. boss uncle says go for the black if you are undecided!)(Ps also. Amos is a super smart guy who started his first job a few months ago. Got to respect him - and their family values! - for still faithfully coming here on Saturdays to help mum and dad 🙌).
The charred parts are great! I wonder why some parts are not charred though?
$4 portion comes with double eggs for extra satisfaction!

Ordered black carrot cake during lunchtime, both the husband and wife were very friendly! Portion was quite filling and is very worth. Definitely recommended
Dear Aloysius, thanks for writing and sharing your thoughts about the move. Congratulations and best wishes for a great start at the new stall (same food market)!
I'm a supporter and fan of your dad's stall. The 萝卜糕 (chai tao kueh) is absolutely one of the best that I have eaten since I was kid growing up near Henderson Sec School area. Its great for breakfast and supper or really anytime time of the day. My office work team has tried it before over team breakfast and they liked it too.
APRIL 2023 update:
Congrats on making the michelin guide for Mar 2023!👏👍
Generous portion with eggs! Opted for the black sauce with chili. Flavour is just nice. Carrot cake is soft.
Previously had an issue trying to match my craving with my preferred "beware of fire" brother's "rotating shift" thus am quite reluctant to walk over in anxiety and walk away in dismay whenever the signature "beware of fire" signage isn't hanging at the stall... now it's no longer an issue. Both thumbs up! Definitely one of the best carrot cake in Singapore.
Both black and white version really yummy!!!
Chance upon an opportunity to try the carrot cake. Rare carrot cake with the wok taste and not oily. Recommend to try this out. (:
Could use more chye poh, barely tasted any. Generous with eggs. Quite spicy although said less chili.
I think best carrot cake in Singapore
Generous portion and delicious!
My love for fried carrot cake and this “black” version with generous amounts of spring onions taste yummy.
Very nice carrot cake! A lot of 🥚 Be sure to come early as the stall closes after two.
Super oily version and service tends to be slow.
