Reviews of Whampoa Satay Bee Hoon (#01-38)
My first time having satay bee hoon and this dish was definitely an enjoyable introduction! Having said that, I have no other basis to compare this to, which would be a blessing, as it allowed me to appreciate it for itself. The serving size was generous. It had lots of lean meat and seafood in it. The satay gravy was substantial, soupy but not too watery. The noodles had a good bite. My only critique would be the waiting time. For a short queue, it took quite a while to receive our order.
One of the best satay bee hoon stalls in Singapore. Getting rare a dish these days. Good that he is still selling it after so many years.
Date of visit : Labour Day, Saturday May 1st, 2021.
Nice satay (peanut sauce) bee hoon (rice noodle or rice vermicelli).
Only missing ingredient was slices of pork liver.
A repeat as it is value for money 👍🏼
The flavour of the $5 plate of satay bee hoon was not bad. The 2 small prawns were fresh and crunchy. There were a few pork slices and tiny cockles. But there was no cuttlefish to complete the dish.
Patronised this stall after about a year of hiatus. Was disappointed to notice that the quality has deteriorated. No doubt that the gravy was still tasty, the beehoon was mushy and cut up to about 1-2 inches strands such that one can just easily scoop it up with a spoon. It certainly did not appeal to me as i felt like I was eating baby food- soft, mushy and cut up. Cockles were minuscule- smaller than a five cent coin. Do note that the $4 version does not include cuttlefish. Disappointed.
Creamy satay sauce, not overtly “gelat”.
Moist beehoon able to soak up the sauce.
Well-marinated pork slices.
Okayish but not amazing. $5
Sauce is a bit diluted but passable
