Reviews of Al Forno (East Coast) Pte Ltd
Al Forno has been the pinnacle of italian cuisine in our books since we first started visiting around 20 years ago. We were always impressed by the visible and very authentic fire pizza oven in the old place. 🔥
In our most recent visit, we were glad to find that the service is still great. Portions surprisingly grew! Taste, was sadly slightly lacking as compared to what we remembered.
Was still a good overall experience though. With fierce competition brewing nearby, diners may have more alternative italian food options to compare with.
Taste
Penne Di Montagna 3/5
Spaghetti Carbonara 5/5
Pasticcio Lasagna 4/5
Calzone 4/5
Pizza Con Carne 4/5
Worth the price!! The pizza is next level and their seafood pasta too. I don't know the name of the dish, but one is preserve ham with cheese pizza and some seafood pasta with prawn and scallop!! Good place to eat and all of the staff are "Passionate and friendly" which makes the experience much more awesome. And their homemade tiramisu, you must try it!! Not the super sweet kind, but damnnnnnnnn.!!!
Food was served on a timely basis! The pizza was amazing! Good job on the charcoalbased stove 😊 octopus was grilled nicely! Lastly their tiramisu makes you feel like home!
Gnocchi sauce was good but gnocchi is a little hard to my liking
Overall good experience!
Food as always is hearty, delicious and the portion is more than sufficient. I would recommend the tiramisu to end your meal!!
Everything we tried here all worth recommending !
- pizza: perfectly toasted from wood fire, the crust itself is already tasty.
- dessert : we tried the chocolate puff and chocolate ice cream with cake in the centre, both with excellent chocolate taste and not so sweet.
- pasta: tried lobster pasta- refreshing as it’s slightly spicy. Bolognese is well balanced between tomato sauce and meat. The special baked one with seafood and creamy tomato sauce.
came here on Mother’s Day and it was full of families but not long wait for a table and food.
Pizza is really cheesy but it’s the soft crust rather than crispy type so may not be for everyone. We ordered carbonara and squid ink pasta which were both good. Also ordered the lamb shank but portion was really small and would not recommend it.
Service was really good although the air conditioning is lacking
Would be back again cos it’s family friendly and value for money
I been wanting to visit this place literally for years.
The visit was perfect. Food was authentic, the setting really gives the vibe of being in Italy. Service was cozy. I ordered the mussels and the serving was generous. The meat ball pasta is appetizing. The pizza is also well done. I was only upset I visited with only one friend and we could not order more.
Definitely a place suitable for a date, a gathering and any celebration.
Having been to many Italian restaurants in Singapore, I found Al Forno to serve authentic pasta and their service was impeccable.
Came on a Saturday for lunch and it wasn’t crowded with very homely vibes. The pasta was cooked really well although it’s not handmade pasta, but we felt that the pizza was a tad inferior compared to the others. Lasagna was amazing too!
Overall a splendid dining experience!
Ordered the Sauté di vongole and the portion was huge, however it wasn’t as flavourful as I expected it to be. The pepperoni pizza and panzarotti alle verdure (ravioli) did not disappoint. The ravioli was super creamy and cheesy and I would personally come back to this place just for the pepperoni pizza. Definitely recommend to try!
Scrumptious, homely authentic Italian food at reasonable prices.
Recommend by my friend. A traditional & old school of an Itaĺian eatery. Indeed their oven wood fired pizzas were really super duper delicious.
Ordered 5 differ types of pizza for 6 of us. Just nice. And best combo to have whisky coke to eat with pizzas
Overall: Great place with great food!
Price: $$$
Food: Very tasty Italian food. The carbonara is creamy and savoury. Best that I have tasted till date. The calamari rings was a little underwhelming as it was not as crispy and savoury as I expected. The sauce paired was not very ideal.
The Chardonnay was smooth and light. Great to go with seafood
Ambience: family setting, friendly and happy atmosphere.
Had a good dinner here during CNY Eve. Portion sizes were good & overall the dishes we had were nice, especially the pizza. However, most of the food were a tad too salty. Would have been awesome if the chefs had gone a little easy on the salt. Service was excellent as usual. Despite a full house, our food arrived timely & hot.
Located near to me but one which has always escaped my attention. Somehow it’s probably the “too-near-to-me” syndrome that makes me think that there will always be other chances to try 😅
The place is almost always packed at peak periods but given the size (it’s pretty large) and fast turnaround, you’d actually find a table if you wait, or come by an hours after the peak periods.
Prices are pretty reasonable and taste good too. To me, the one thing that catches my attention is the pizza and the oven. You can see it being perfected baked!
Celebrated birthday there .. we managed to finish all the food despite being sooo full .... Hahaha.. that's how delicious their dishes were. Awesome! 👍 Wanna go again! Price r decent for the quality of food.
Great atmosphere and their pizza was really yummy! Was really crowded on a Friday night. Pizza and steak was awesome but the pastas were mid. We also had Tiramisu but I rather order another Pizza haha
Amazing food with Italian atmosphere. Pizza oven makes the pizzas taste so much better. Burratta was amazing with prosciutto. Tiramisu was also great.
A favourite of ours since they were located at Goldhill. Havent been here for awhile since they moved. Came back for our anniversary dinner last year and their food is still as good.
The Calzone, Caesar Salad and Zuppa Oceanica were and still are our all time favourite. Super love their foccacia bread which came with the seafood. Our daughter loved their Carbonara so much, there was a smile every time she takes a mouthful. She couldn't stop talking about it.
If you like authentic Italian fare with a laid back atmosphere, this is one of the go to places. Will be back for more.
The only downside is the parking, which can be challenging.
Food was really good !! There wasn’t any crowd on a weekday lunch. Staffs was accommodating as well. Recommend the Ravioli ! And the Tiramisuuuuuuu was great !!!! Can be difficult to find parkings nearby tho.
The food overall was quite okay, nothing too special in my opinion. The ambiance was very nice and cosy. I liked my gnocchi though it didn’t really look like the picture in the menu, haha :p
This is a very traditional Italian restaurant which offers very yummy spaghetti, pizza.
The steak we ordered is a bit below my expectation.
Service is relatively good as the staff are all very responsive.
I had my anniversary dinner here recently, the ambience is certainly much better in person than in pictures! The service staff was friendly and had good reccomendations for us (the pizza and lasagna in the pictures). As delicious as it is, be sure not to fill up on the starter and complimentary bread or there'll be difficulties finishing your mains. Would love to come here again!
Lovely place to dine. Cozy and most of all, the people are happy and the one thing you cone here is the food. So delicious. A place to he with if you are craving for Italian dishes.
A must visit place and now one of my favorite restaurants in Singapore. Their food tastes amazing, quick service, portions are damn good, the ambience was amazing since I went there around Christmas and new years.
Daughter's birthday, they sang for her which was a good touch! Food was good! Enjoyed the experience!
This place never disappoints! Dish after dish is delectable. Despite being packed full-house, service was prompt and friendly. A very nice dining experience!
This restaurant is an institution. Have been coming to this place for over 20 years. Al Forno serves up hearty portions of reliably tasty Italian fare. A wide variety of items on the menu for meat and plant-based diets. Restaurant often gets crowded so best to make reservations ahead.
Good food. Do try the veal called osso buco, so tender and the marrow wow. The meatball penne was good too. Do call in to book a spot. It is also famous for delivery - saw them lined up outside. Parking can be a pain although there are a few spots just outside.
I had dinner here recently with my business partners. The food was delicious, the atmosphere great, and the staff well-trained. Even the owner took time to say hello. I definitely recommend Al Forno East Coast, and will certainly be going there again.
We had birthday celebration in this restaurant tonight and the vibe is really nice. The staff has very good customer service and are really friendly and helpful. If they will see the comments, thank you for the birthday song and cheering for us! 😆 It’s a good pick if you are looking for a place with good food and nice wine! Their red wine is LIT. Though carbonara isn’t that amazing (the texture of the penne isn’t what I expected, i asked for al dente, but end up it tastes a bit raw), the rest of the food, mushroom soup, appetizer, and pizza are all pretty nice. Overall it’s satisfying, pasta can be better I would say, as it is an Italian restaurant after all. But still give you a 4 star, for the service! And hope to see improvement in food quality if you want customers to go back for the taste 💪
Authentic Italian restaurant. Foods were nice. Most of the dishes cost around $20 to $30
Wonderful dinning place.
Staff were very helpful and service was fast.
Overall, great foods and perfect ambient for gathering with friends or family.
The place is lovely, great service from the staffs. They were lively and super attentive! The food is at its best. Pasta “Fettuccine al tartufo” is my personal favourite on this restaurant.
Best Italian restaurant I’ve visited so far. Love the atmosphere, the restaurant setup, the friendly staff and most importantly the food! Plan to make a second visit soon!
The wood-fired oven pizza were superb. The pasta was ok but below my expectations. The spaghetti was too soft for my liking. The vongole ought to have more white wine. The desserts were good but could be better. The staff were patient and friendly. So overall, I think a rating of 4⭐️is fair.
Star of the meal was definitely the Gnocchi. Pizza and steak was pretty average. Service was attentive but not sure if I will be back for more..
I've been a fan of Al Forno since over 20 years ago, when my sister suggested this place as a response to my search for "an Italian place that has good food at affordable prices".
Glad to say this place - and the quality of the food - has not changed.
Been coming here for almost 30 yrs..food is almost always consistently good.
Staff is friendly and attentive
Pizzas here is very good..so is the pasta especially the spaghetti cartocio!
First even visit to a Italian Restaurant after Covid restriction. Had ordered the delivery before and tasted good! Hence went down to try it! Yeah it worth the visit.
The food, ambience, and finishings brought me back to Giovanni's in NYC, with the same hustle, bustle and great service from the staff. We had the primavera, the calzone, focaccia and the spaghetti cartoccio.
The pasta was superb, served with a tomato based thick sauce (that I can only associate with a puree), and have generous (and I mean generous) amounts if squid, large prawns (think there were 4 + 1 large one), crayfish, mussels and angel clams. All bagged in one huge alu bag of goodness. Managed to serve 2 fully.
The primavera (rocket, cheese, Parma ham) was a winner and took us by surprise. The rocket was not overpowering and complemented the ham really well, with the thin crust being backed by the cheese, helping to stick it all together.
Calzone was a first, tricky one I her. The integration of pizza and curry puff was real, and was a treat in the palate with cheese.and mushroons.
The food honestly wasn’t that wow like I was expecting from the other reviews. Tasted pretty meh to be honest. Out of everything, we enjoyed the desserts the most.
Lived in the vicinity my whole life but didn’t seem to ever walk into this Al Forno (went to the Siglap outlet and it was utter nonsense). Anyway, I’m so glad I finally did step into this particular place - can’t believe I missed out on this place my entire life. Good food and good service! Would definitely be back. For all those who could be confused, this is the original outlet.
Mixed bag for me. The pizzas remain one of the best in town and the Tiramisu was heavenly. The pasta we ordered wasn’t as good. The carbonara was way too heavy, the codfish was not great, the bruschetta was bland.
Mind blowing good pizza from a wood fire oven. May not look as good in the photos compared to the fancy Neapolitan pizza. But these are a lot bigger and the crust is as good as those japanese master Neapolitan style pizzas. Also a great pasta. Amazing attitude also. Very reasonable price and quantity.
Went for a late lunch and the staff were wonderful. Food was fantastic!
The restaurant was very packed on the Friday evening that were there, food was served relatively quickly and warm. Ambience was cozy for a dinner date or for friends gathering. Many birthday celebrations that night where the owner of the place and the staff will sing along happy birthday.
Family style Italian restaurant and pizzeria with loyal local following. Busy most nights and the wine by glass is great value too.
Very nice and cozy ambience! Service here is one of the best I’ve experienced in SG too.
Cosy yet spacious Italian restaurant with friendly staff. Pizza and grilled beef fillet were both done to perfection.
Food average. Less crowd. Not convenient for car parking.
Found a bottle cap inside the clam soup 😅 staff quickly replace with it.
Love their pizza. Super thin crust & delicious! Authentic Italian food! Went there multiple times!
Authentic Italian place. Highly recommended for starters and pizza. Very helpful and polite staff. Above average cost, roughly around $30 to$40 per head w/o wine or alcohol. Decent ambience
💡: price is definitely not the cheapest but for the quality and quantity and with ordering the right dishes - the place is worth returning to👍 will go back to check out their pizzas! 😍🍕

Great ambience and service staff were friendly and helpful.
Awesome food here as well. Stands the test of time..
Very good pasta. Had linguine Al Forno. Its like a tomato cream base w king prawn n fish. Enjoyed it thoroughly!
Dynamic atmosphere slightly noisy when full but not annoying. Very good Italian dishes especially the clams vongole and seafood pasta. Good for sharing. Friendly staff. Nice neighbourhood place.
My SO and I had no prior reservations but the staff was quick to sit us despite the restaurant being packed on a Sunday evening. The food we ordered came quickly, and service was exemplary throughout especially considering the fact that staff had to serve both diners and takeaway/delivery orders. As expected, the pastas were well-executed and nothing short of delicious. The overall experience has been great, and I definitely see myself coming back again to try out the rest of the menu!
some of the yummiest pastas I’ve had in Singapore!
Their PASTA GAMBERI E CAPESANTE IN SALSA ROSA is fantastic. Not a fan of the gnocchi. Generally i find their pastas better than the pizzas. An excellent Italian joint in the east.
Came here for a improntu choice for our anniversary, surprise it tasted pretty amazing and we are very please with the food. Will be back for more pasta... 😉
Not sure why I gave 4 stars 5 years ago, but came back recently and this place definitely deserves a 5.
Was goggling for an authentic Italian place and came all the way from punggol . Food were great . Service warm and Reasonable prices and such lovely hidden gem should be running as long as possible . Will be back to try other menu . ( the seafood soup tasted too much flour . Use some cream or butter would be much nicer I think ) all else r good .
Most dishes were good. Recommend the seafood pasta.
Have been coming to this iconic household restaurant for years and it’s always an enjoyable experience. Today’s birthday celebration for a good friend was again well worth the visit - tasty food & attentive service.
We came down for lunch as a family of 7+1 toddler.
Pizzas (Hawaiian & 4 cheese) were great, but all the pastas and risottos that we ordered today were bland and underseasoned for some reason.
What really impressed us was the excellent service that we received from our main server, Karen who was super attentive and extremely proactive in her service.
When my husband dropped his knife on the floor, within seconds Karen was at our table with a clean knife without us ever opening our mouths. When our pizza orders arrived, Karen took the initiative to split the different flavours across 2 plates so that the family had a plate within reach across the long table. They were also very quick to change our plates when they were filled with clam shells.
It was just a delight to experience this high level of service at Al Forno's - kudos to the team.
Probably the Best Italian Restaurant I have been to in Singapore. I had my Anniversary lunch here. Loved the ambience and the friendliness of the staff. The food was to die for! I loved how all the dishes we ordered were bang on flavour. Not a single dish was average. I plan to come again and highly recommend to anyone looking for good Italian food in sg.
Lovely experience once again at Alforno. My family enjoyed the food and service. The Margherita was exceptional. Carbonate was also on point.
Quite a popular place for Italian grub - pizzas were great, pasta didn't live up to the mark.
Desserts disappointed, service was acceptable given the packed place. Would love to visit again at a more relaxed pace to check how pizzas are created!
The pizza was really really good (pizza di montagna) and we are normally not big fans of pizza. The pasta with crab was also good. The service was very efficient and attentive. However, not recommended for romantic dinner as it can be extremely crowded especially in weekend and reservation is a must.
The food at this place is great, but lately their service has really dropped off. The last few times we've used them for delivery, its taken hours for the delivery to show up. If you call to ask, they're not that concerned about how long its taking, no apologies, nothing. Its a shame because their food is really good and their pizza is some of the best I've had in Singapore.
Nice old fashion Italian restaurant in East Coast. Probably one of the best pizzas in Singapore however a bit pricey (around 24-28 sgd). Good variety of wines.
Good food ... pasta and pizza were on the mark. Rather crowded. Need to be patient.
Great Italian dishes but standard not as good as b4. However, the seafood pizza and carborana were excellent. Catoccio standard has dropped and less ingredients.
Above average, decent Italian food. Service was ok and food was good but definitely room for improvements.
An appetizer is honeydew melon and ham. The melon is very sweet and has a sweet aftertaste, and the ham is salty and fragrant. It is a perfect match. A friend raved about his pizza, but the quality may fluctuate. This time the pizza may not have fermented well, and the taste is good but lower than expected, slightly inferior to doc. The environment is very good and the service is good. It's worth trying.
Over the years I always return to Alessandro.
Excellent Italian cuisine near the Katong district.
Excellent dishes with true flavors of Italy.
I plan to return next year
Corkage is also available after paying a fee.
The pizza is really great!
