Reviews of Bumbu Restaurant

Another visit with another set of foodie friends. Restaurant has a new edited menu. This time we had good desserts in kueh selat and kueh dada, chendol with durian.

A good friend introduced this place to me and we decided to visit and have Sat lunch with another group of makan kakis. The food is very good. The highlight was the deep fried kangkong salad (it is like tempura kang kong) Staff are all friendly, patients and attentive. We want to come back again soon.
Third time eating at Bumbu and so far, all the dishes I've tried were superb. Will definitely come back for more crispy kangkong, assam prawns, and tom yum. Do ask if they have the keuh salat (off-menu). I don't usually enjoy nonya delicacies but this one made me a fan.
Located in a quiet Farrer HDB enclave, this is one unique restaurant where you are surrounded with a traditional mix of Peranakan and Indonesian antiques and collectibles. The cuisine is a mix of Indonesian and Thai. Their crispy Kang Kong salad and beef rendang are a must order. Tau Hu telor is decent, but is a modified version of the real dish, taste wise, it’s still ok. We like their squid in black sauce too. Don’t forget to ask for their sambal chilli, it’s an excellent dip for the prawn crackers. Disappointed with Chap chai though, which had no flavour at all. Suggest that they relook at the ingredients used for this dish, as it can easily be improved. Service is friendly and fast and overall we had a good family dinner.
Hidden gem. All the food we ordered was superb.
Rendang 10/10
Tahu telur 8/10 (only because i dont like sweet soya sauce)
Coffee chicken 9/10
Pineapple fried rice 10/10 (comes with raisin)
Olive fried rice 10/10
Broccolli with crab meat 10/10
This Thai-Indonesian restaurant is situated on the 2nd floor of a HDB block. Ample parking. The place is filled with antique cabinets and wood screen.
The food is good. Small portion though. So likely you will order a second round. I love the tahu-telor and the beef rendang.
Not spicy at all. So kids will love it too!
A hidden gem at hdb block😄 we enjoyed the ambience, service and food there🥰 beef randang is a must try! We ordered warm lemongrass without sugar which is also very good. Tauhu telur is good but not in shape😉 we’ll go next time to try tomyum soup, mango salad and desserts😋
I came back again and the dishes are just as good. For 4 dishes, it came to just $74.
(5 yrs ago)We had the set dinner for 10 and it was excellent! Some of the dishes included sambal prawns in a rich gravy, steamed sea bass and their version of tauhu telor - crispy on the outside and soft inside. The prices are reasonable so I'll definitely go back again!
We visited as a party of 8 pax for dinner. There was ample seating, service was warm and friendly, and most importantly, the food was amazing! Highly recommend for family get togethers. Portions are family sized and affordable.
We ordered almost half the menu and these are their must try dishes:
- Crispy kang kong salad
- Ngoh hiang
- Prawn cake
- Buah keluak chicken
- Squid with black sauce
- Tahu telur
- Olive rice
Basically every dish was good, even those that weren’t mentioned. Can’t wait to come back again!
Long lost love found! The deco is really nice, and the food is as good as I remembered it. Tahu telur is my favorite. Service is very good. Will be coming back often to this hidden gem.
A HDB neighbourhood restaurant in Blk 4 Queen's Road (in Farrer, Singapore), serving a selection of Thai, Indonesian, and Peranakan/Nyonya dishes. The ngoh hiang is so good!!! So is the beef rendang and the butter oat soft shell crab. The tom yum seafood has the right balance of spiciness and milky coconut. And the cendol has the reputation of being one of the best in Singapore. Thick, rich coconut milk and generous helping of gula melaka!
Way cosier and quieter than their City outlet, Bumbu @ Farrer is beautifully decorated with Oriental/ Asian antiques and furnishings. Delicious food with have their own signature taste to every dish, you KNOW you are dining at Bumbu once you begin tucking in into their food. Impeccable and attentive service from the staffs too. Really friendly. And the best thing is, their service and quality have always been consistent since they started here.
Nice little decorated Thai-Indonesian restaurant on second level of block 4 Queens road. Quiet and ambience with good decor. Good food too.
Love the service and ambient.
Ordered the olive fried rice, red seafood tomyam, nonya chap chye and garlic fried chicken (customized order) for 2. Food was fine, the tomyam soup is thick and creamy.
Didn't manage to take a picture of the rest of the food cause were too hungry 😂.
Great ambience, service and food. It was like dining in a museum. Prices were quite reasonable.
Nice try and everything is perfect.
Will come back again for more cuisines. 👍🏻👍🏻
Bumbu is a perfect place to discover and eat info food. The place is nice inside and seats are available outside. Nice price, nice waitresses, nice food. Perfect for a long nch or a dinner.
Terrific vegetarian food options (just ask for it if you don’t see it on the menu 😊), charming atmosphere and a cendol, to die for.
Very interesting decor. Food was good and affordable. Service was good. Nice for a neighborhood restaurant.
Nice concept, Thai-Indonesian cuisine.
Tried once. May come back again if i have the crave. Honestly, for the price and serving portions, there is no justice.
I won't recommend unless you just want to satisfy your craving.
The decor is nice though. Set in a quiet neighbourhood. Feels more like a restaurant than a HDB shophouse.
Good place for indonesian food. The tauhu telor is amazing, the rest is okay. Cosy place with good atmosphere.
Amazing restaurant! It is advertised Thai and Indonesian food and they had tons of amazing Peranakan dishes too with very rare recipes that are the most delicious we tasted in Singapore so far. It is very affordable and taste better than some Michelin star restaurants we went. The decoration is super old school peranakan collector. It feels like 60 years ago in Singapore and located in a friendly HDB. We totally loved it and will come back. There is not one dish that wasn't sensational. True gem! We need more of these wonderful restaurants in Singapore. They don't serve alcohol as it is halal but they have great juices and teas. ps: the prawn crackers on each table are the best!
Nice ambience, food is nice Reasonably priced. Portion just nice. Recommend to come have try. Chendol is really good.
Authentic rendang, chendol, and sambal sweet potato leaves fry
Still good as usual. The beef rendang was perfect, the portion is kind of small. Tauhu telur was very good. I come here regularly and so far the foods here have been very consistent. You know how it is, when you go to a restaurant that you were very happy with and suddenly one day the food is not what you expected. Usually is because chef have changed or some one else is temporary taking over the cooking. But so far I have not come across this situation in this restaurant. Keep it up!
Excellent restaurant nestled in a hdb block. Bumbu has a vintage song playlist (pre-covid) to match its charming decor. Tauhu telur and buahkeluak are must-haves. Generous portions at great value. The green agar in the chendol tastes of fresh pandan. But of all the reasons to go to Bumbu, the warm and genuine service of the wait staff is the reason I always return to this cosy and unassuming outlet.
one of best kept secrets.
tucked on the second floor of farrer road hdb housing are 3 great restaurants. West Lake being the most popular.
Bumbu is strangely quiet. it serves excellent Indonesian thai food. its tahu telor is second to none. its rendang beef is perfectly cooked and tender yet rich in spices. Green curry chicken is awesome. Its fried mee sua has many layers of tastes.
nice friendly staff. my son loves the food and staff so much that he told them he will have hia birthday celebrations there and we did tonight wifh family.
Spacious restaurant. Wide variety of food selection, friendly staff.
Halal and has a small praying corner.
Setting can be a poor reflection of the food but not to be. The dishes we had were great. Tahu telor, prawns, kangkong, rendang; nice aroma too.
Unique place to gather family for dinner.
The food is good, the fish steam spicy is nicely cook. They have musollah for muslim. Good place! But very hard to reach there as not public bus nearby.
good foods, special ambience, aurhentically local
Reasonable prices, nice old-school ambience, food is good. The Indonesian fare generally tastes better than the Thai stuff.
Not very tasty food. Very decorated inside and slow service.
Had dinner on a quiet Thursday evening. Really enjoyed the Tom yum, pineapple fried rice, rendang and chendol!
Amazing food! Had the beef rendang, green curry and sambal brinjal
The staff was forthcoming. The food was value for money. No issue with the tahu telur. Discounts were given when requested.
A hidden gem with lots of character n most importantly, warm hospitality/waiter n tasty food!
First branch at Kandahar better food. This outlet more comfortable layout of tables. Easy parking
I've been here many times before and I won't be stopping anytime soon. The sambal kangkong is incredible!
My absolute favourite restaurant in Singapore. Love the heart-warming food and friendly service here.
Scrumptious Thai-Indo local cuisine, wonderful host and beautiful heritage collection & ambience.
A lovely restaurant with good food and fine hospitality tucked away into cosy little corner along Farrer Road...
Great food and nice decor. Service was excellent.
We'll definitely come back. Quiet place, good food, and reasonable price .
Foods are delicious,, but prices abit expensive.
Delicious
Good Thai food priced affordably, with little crowd.
Quite nice tastes I’d say. Portion is tiny
Good food, very friendly staff
