As I walked through the underground malls from MB Link towards Raffles Place, I cannot help but noticed the many new eateries that have sprung up over the last couple of years. Most, if not all, had queues or were fully seated during the peak lunch hours. For me I was just looking forward to my favourite Rosemary Chicken sandwich at one of the cafes in the Cedele chain. Compared to a year ago, the impact of inflation was a smaller but more expensive sandwich, but pairing it with a fairly big warm bowl of Wild Mushroom, the 12.50 dollar meal was alright....until.... I had picked a seat facing counter and had a full view of the food preparation. I noticed the lady who was responsible for making the sandwiches had a glove on her left hand that she used to take the fillings and bread. With the same gloved hand she was holding a towel used to clean the cutting board and in between customer orders, she walked to other parts of the counter with the glove still on her left hand. For one order, when she has cut the sandwich, another lady who was just before then clearing the dining tables, picked up and poked the toothpicks into the sandwich..... I am not sure if I would frequent Cedele again but I would definitely give this outlet a miss.
