Reviews of Chicken House
Ordered half a chicken and 2 plates of rice. Flavour was ok, not really to my personal liking but i wont say is totally bad. The soup is actually taste quite nice, i watched a few ladies lift up the big bowl and drink it, i wonder if soup is refillable but the staffs seems busy so I don’t dare to ask. The cucumber is quite soggy hence lack the crunch bite i like. Atmosphere 5 stars because the place is air conditional. Shop is just in-front of the Upper Thomson MRT exit 4.
Taste and service is subjective.
This is a compilation of 2 dinners. We ordered half a chicken ($16++), vegetables ($5), and tried the jellyfish and fried tofu!
All very reasonably priced. The chicken was juicy and tender, not dry at all.
The sauces were light and fresh.
Would come back here regularly.
Very nice kampomg chicken rice! Recommended by a friend who live in Sg for a long time. It was very juicy and the chilli sauce here was also nice. There is a long queue on weekend. Better to avoid the peak time.
Chicken rice is delicious as always. I prefer this place to the Michelin guide recommendations downtown. Don't miss the lime juice.
I’ve been to a number of chicken rice places and kampong chicken house is still the best. Especially the other rice houses that ends with “Kee” no go. I always feel like I’m wasting calories when chilli is not spicy and chicken is dry or mushy. Chicken here, even the breast, is tender and juicy. Chilli is bombz. Rice is now definitely smaller in portion when dining in. Gizzard 70% of the time is sold out by 2pm. Unlimited chilli and ginger when dining in. However, ginger is limited to 1 when taking out for 4pax! 🙀
Very delicious chicken rice, and their chilli very nice too. Paired with flavourful soup. I ordered ngoh hiang and kailan too. Ngoh not bad.
Hubby tabao home the chicken rice for us. I like the chicken rice, soft but not soggy unlike some other stalls that has grainy rice that I can't digest. Rice is not oily as well. Perfect for me. Chicken meat is tender and the light sauce over it is good. Usually I don't like kailan as it has a bitter taste, this stall surprises cook very well, no bitterness and still crispy even after 45 mins after taboo home. Tofu is average. Busy eating forgot to take picture. Stall is considerate to pack black sauce, chilli, ginger, parsley, cucumber and light sauce for chicken separately. 👍
I visited as a single diner, and the queue time was long on the weekend. I ordered chicken rice, bok choy and a drink and the bill was $11.6. When the food came, I was shocked by the portion of vegetables, definitely not for a single diner. A decent-tasting plate of chicken rice that you can get in the area. I had their chicken rice multiple times in the past when I was working nearby, but I wouldn't say I would especially make a trip down to have it.
One of the best if not the best chicken rice in Singapore. Taste of good real chicken. Chicken good by itself without sauce. Rice is fragrant and light. Chilli sauce spicy and pack a powerful punch. Everything to the finest detail is carefully prepared with heart. Amazing.
Food is delicious. Prices are affordable and portions are great. Quite a lot of houseflies though. Service could be slightly friendlier. Other than that, no issues.
I come here about 3-4 times a year for the past 10 years or so, and I am sad that this visit proved to be disappointing.
Chicken was dry and lack the fragrance from the sauce. Soup was tasteless and everything is just so wrong.
It is not the usual standard that got me coming back.
Will I be back again? Maybe not, this could be the end of my decade relationship with this stall.
Chicken is super good. If you are driving, it might be kinda troublesome due to the limited parking spaces. However, it is kinda expensive. 2 chicken and 1 fried fish cake and 6 rice was $82
Long queue at lunch, but cleared rather quickly. They only accept cash, which is quite an inconvenience, thinks it'd be best if they state that on the store front. The chicken is cooked right, with gelatin.
Food is decent but the plump lady staff can be quite rude. I took away 1 chicken along with some side dishes. Saw that they gave only 2 chili and 1 ginger sauce so I went over to take 1 more ginger packet and the lady scolded me, saying that she already placed inside and kept glaring at me.
Cannot so niao la, not like I taking 3 packets. 1 ginger packet is not enough for 1 whole chicken. Not a good experience.
For first time goers, make sure you know exactly what to order and to prepare cash.
There is chicken rice and there is kampong chicken rice @thomson . What goes well with the chicken is the sauces , ginger and if U are a chilly lover, U need to try 👍, enjoy . One good thing, it is easily located via mrt .
Solid chicken set for one person! The food was great and service was really efficient. The sauces were really good as well.
Very tasty. Definitely one of the best chicken rice in town.
Its simply good chicken rice, the chicken is especially interesting cos it is the yellow skin kampong chicken, the meat is very tender yet firm, and its seasoned perfectly so its flavourful without being too salty. Meanwhile the rice is fantastic, fragrant and just oily enough, if i had any complaint it is that 1 bowl of rice just isnt enough
Ordered thigh and drum for 2. $10.90
The chicken is nice with sauce.
Complimentary soup is different from other places, in a nice way!
The chilli, ginger and dark sauce blends well with the fragrant rice and chicken.
Very fragrant rice, although it look kind of bland but it is pack with flavors from lemon grass, chicken oil and more. None of the dishes feels oily. The soup goes well with the rice and chicken. The only complaint I have is that the chicken texture feels very powdery, maybe because it is kampung chicken. But nonetheless, quite a good plate of chicken rice
Tasty chicken rice. The chickens seems to have lower fat content than most.
Advertised as Kampong chicken but photos showing a conflicting chicken farm. I was raised in a pig and chicken farm so I know farmed chicken is commercial and not free range thus "kampong" is absolutely misleading.
Score for the meal is in the top range but the service is near the bottom.
The Malaysian accented lady guarding at the entrance would yell, be rude to you just to get you to scan entry and take temperature.
Maybe the lady and the service is Kampong part about the eating House.
In fact associating this lady to Kampong is a big insult to the authentic Kampong spirit.
I remember Kampong being a community filled with humble, well mannered and soft spoken people.
My recommendations:
1. Remove the Kampong advertising and be more truthful
2. Train the staff before sending them to the front line
3. Employ locals and reduce the dependence on cheap foreign work force.
What can I complain!
The chicken has jelly under the skin!
Chicken House serves kampong chicken which is supposedly healthier. The meat is evidently more lean than the usual chicken rice chicken, but it was still tender. Rice wasn’t particularly fragrant. But what really stood out for me were the ginger and chili. The one pax portion is served with a bowl of soup as well. Note: They don’t do roast chicken. Will be back for more!
First time visit. Open at 7am and close when chicken sold out. Chicken portion is huge, order 1/4 chicken for 2 pax portion. Rice can be better.
This place is an excellent choice for chicken rice enthusiasts. Their Kampung chicken is impressively tender with firm skin. If you prefer boneless chicken, simply request chicken breast. The real magic happens when you pair it with their delectable chili and freshly ground ginger. For info, the portion of beansprouts (small) is quite a lot. A truly enjoyable dining experience!
Tried for the first time after railway walk. Ordered half chicken, Kai Lan & fried taufu. They are famous for their kampung chicken and indeed it’s good. Chicken skin is yellowish & texture is soft. It really lives up to its reputation. Unfortunately, other than the chicken, nothing is good, including the rice & chillies. Rice is very plain, almost like white rice. That explained the 3 stars.
The chicken taste tender even it’s label as kampung chicken . Probably the cooking method is using kampung chicken while meat is prepared by using fresh chicken
Delicious chicken. Interestingly it’s yellowish in color. Is it because they are using Kampung Chicken? Reasonable price. Love it.
Damn shiok the chicken rice 🤤
Reasonable price, tender chicken and fragrant rice. Will be back again.
Kampung style chicken rice. The chili adds a KICK to the rice! 😗
Generally delicious kampung chicken rice with their " potent" chilli sauce, albeit service tend to be curt.
It’s newly renovated. Order early as food may sell out earlier than expected
Decent taste, the portion is small. Visited the same place 12years ago, the quality was better back then.
Kampong chicken was yummy, rice was yummy, sauces were yummy. Just a tad bit expensive. Prawn rolls were not bad too.
it is Amazing! Once their chickens sold-out a day, and also depending on customers.
Good tasting Kampung Chicken and rice. However, the ginger and chili sauce could be better while the soup is bland and tasteless.
The vegetables Beansprouts and Kailan are greatly cooked and fresh. Big portion and satisfying.
slightly pricey but they do serve tender chicken and nice chicken porridge giblets
Flavorful chicken with succulent yellow skin + fragrant rice + yummy spicy chilli sauce = best combo!
A real taste of free range chicken done in hainanese way. I order half a chicken for two person. We completely clean up the plate. The chicken meat is silky and smooth. The price is reasonable and the service is fast. The free soup taste really good. The cold crab is really a treat. Some may find it pricy but I felt it taste of freshness and sweetness worth it price. Plus the chicken rice not only taste really good , it also taste healthy , not oily or jelak at all 👍👏
Tender chicken thigh meat, rice is fragrant.
Service can be better.
If u are doing takeaway, please check the price first. I do a takeaway for 2 chicken rice w/ breast meat. Its not a meal set. $11 total or $5.50 per packet. Just sharing only about the food price. Enjoy!
Great kampung chicken rice with the ginger and chilli sauce! Side dishes like the ngoh hiang is delicious as well.
Not much sitting and not the most comfy with no air-conditioning. Best to take away!
Love the chicken rice here, the green ginger sauce is very nice as well. Worth taking the effort to travel down to eat. 👍
One of the best chicken rice in Singapore. Very authentic and value for money. It will be packed during meal time this suggest coming slightly earlier. No less star for not having air-con
These kampong chickens are more flavorful and slightly less fat. Rice was not amazing, but at least also not too oily. Lack of zero calorie soda. Whole chicken is $26, a tad high. Other items very reasonably priced.
Their kampung chicken is very solid. Rice is fragrant but small portion. Only cash. Visit off peak hour to beat the queue.
B prepared to wait as there's a queue during lunch
Chicken is lean. Tofu is the fish cake kind, so kids might like it. Great ginger & chili sauce. Rice less fragrance.
I probably went at the correct time as there was no queue! Chicken was tender, I like the prawn roll... Not expensive, affordable
The best kampong chicken rice in town, service is super fast though the staff are not friendly. The fragrance of the rice and the chicken is very yummy
Very nice chicken rice using kampong chicken. It is not neighbourhood price but it is worth the slightly higher cost. However parking is a pain due to construction. Need to wait or prepared to park bit further and walk over.
The chicken meat is tender, soup is good, vegetables is fresh and the rice cook just nice. Only the major problem is parking. Once the future Thomson line in operation.
Nice tender kampung chicken. Rice could have been better. A bit stuffy & run down, but considering it's been around since I can remember I would say it's not to shabby...
I really like this place. Delicious chicken rice. Would recommend
Keeps all e traditional-ness of an authentic chicken rice my rare 5 star for an eatery. Everyone should try this!
Good kampung chicken rice place. They sell cold crab and other dishes as well
Fantastic kampong chix rice!Although parking is difficult but totally worth it...thumbs up!!
The chicken is so tender and juicy! ! ! All the dishes are not oily and you can see why they are loved by men and women of all ages. There's always a line at lunchtime, but I still want to eat there. This is chicken rice that you will want to eat regularly!
Chicken rice in my opinion is the best I've ever eaten.❤️❤️❤️
The taste is great, no matter how you order it, you won’t be disappointed.
It was delicious. Chicken rice tastes the same no matter where you eat it, but the chicken here has a chewy texture and a refreshing taste. The vegetables and tofu (and when I tried it, the fish paste lol) were delicious.
After researching what kampung chicken is, I found out that it's no different from the so-called broiler chicken, but the chicken rice here was still delicious.
Below is what I found out about kampung chicken.
********************************
[What is kampung chicken anyway? ]
Kampong chicken comes from the Malay word kampung (meaning village or countryside). It originally refers to chickens that were raised free-range in the countryside of Malaysia, and their characteristics include low fat content, strong meat flavor, and good health because they are raised in a stress-free environment. .
However, it should be noted first that the kampung chicken currently available in Singapore is neither a brand name nor a breed name of the chicken, and furthermore, it is not free-range or cage-free. Kampung chicken is a type of marketing term that has become popular with the health-conscious boom, and is a type of chicken that is no different from so-called broiler chicken.
[Is it cage free? ]
To begin with, the raw chicken distributed in Singapore only comes from about 10 poultry farms in Singapore and about 130 poultry farms designated by AVA (Agri-food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore) in Malaysia. . All other imported chicken meat is frozen. As for frozen products, as of January 2021, AVA does not permit the import or sale of free-range chickens at all. This means that you cannot eat free-range chicken in Singapore, whether fresh or frozen. To prevent avian influenza, the Singapore government only allows the import of chicken meat that has been raised on artificial feed (in a poultry farm) without contact with wild birds, whether fresh or frozen. Noda.
[Is Kampung Chicken a brand name? ]
There are no regulations in Singapore or Malaysia regarding the name kampung chicken. Therefore, any vendor can name a chicken with no connection or connection with the product as Kampung Chicken, and from that moment on, it can be sold as Kampung Chicken. And there are no penalties for it.
Therefore, even though there are butcher shops in markets and chicken rice shops in hawker centers that claim to be kampung chicken, free-range, cage-free, they are not cage-free in the true sense of the word, and are called broiler chickens. It's good to remember that it's still chicken.
