Reviews of Chuan Wei Xuan 川味軒
4.5⭐️ (can try if pass by, a bit pricey but some dishes are worth it): Good quality Sichuan cuisine, priced as expected for a standalone restaurant but higher than hawker options.
4.5⭐️ Twice-Cooked Pork: The pork is on the dry and thin side, but it’s flavorful. The standout is the tofu, which has a slight crust on the outside and is tender inside—one of the best tofu dishes I’ve had in the dry-fried style.
3.5⭐️ Lettuce: okay quality vegetables, good for balancing the meal.
Hidden jem in joo chiat. Quiet façade but serves great sichuan food with excellent service! Staff are super friendly and helpful. Food are as good as the famous restaurants. Love the wohei taste of their cabbage! Reasonable price too. Paid less than $100 for 3, including drinks and one delicious beer. Will surely visit again!
One of the better SiChuan restaurants I’ve tried in Singapore. The place is clean and easily accessible. Great 辣子鸡, spicy and delicious. The dishes may appear slightly expensive but note that they already included tax.
Good place to eat Sichuan food, La Zi Chiken so nice, only the Mao Xue Wang, not good. Tasteless but portion small. But still want to visit again!!!!
Recommended to try their fried lamb with cumin, which have an appealing taste. Lamb meat was wonderfully tendery browned, aromatic and pungent.
Century eggs with green pepper was equally good as well. The yolk was creamy and soft enough and the egg exterior had the jellylike texture. It was very appealing for us.
We felt their Sichuan Spicy Popcorn Chicken was not as good, compared to others. Yes, the taste was there and it was crispy enough, but the chicken cubes were too small, that gives you a feeling of eating the flour without any meat at all.
Their shredded cabbage was light and refreshing. Seasoning was well done and tasty. Once we start eating it, it's hard to put down our chopsticks.
Another dish worth trying is the Steamed Chicken with Chilli Sauce. The succulent and silky chicken meat was soaked in Szechuan styled Mala flavours, which made this dish very appetising and super aromatic.
Tried their Double Cooked Pork with Tofu. This dish, was quite different from the usual elsewhere. The pork belly was Stir-Fried with sweet and spicy sauce with the addition of beancurd to it.
Their Dry-Fried Long Beans were full of salty, garlicky, sweet and spicy flavours. Super tasty and quite addictive too.
Overall, it's really a great place to dine. Restaurant was clean and spacious. Servers were very attentive and friendly as well.
Amazing authentic food! If you love spicy dishes, this is the place to go to in this neighborhood! The ingredients are always fresh. The dishes are never greasy. The chicken + mushroom hotpot is outstanding. Sauteed veggies are excellent. Glass noodles with shrimp - so tasty. The lotus dish is a must! This place is cash only. Once you overcome the language barrier, you will be blown away by hospitality of this family owned restaurant.
One of my favourite authentic Si Chuan 川菜 restaurants. It looks unassuming from outside and we missed it for a while even though it’s located close to us. A few of our favourite dishes included their 酸菜鱼 fish cooked with preserved vegetables, 辣子鸡 deep fried diced chicken with dried chilli and 炸肥肠 deep fried pig intestines. Price is reasonable, and normally busy and quite packed.
One of the best 水煮鱼in Singapore. Most other dishes are very good as well. Feels very homemade unlike most other restaurants (not overly salty or full of msg). Waiting for food takes awhile as probably it is only being cook by 1 chef. Quality is good and consistency is there. Been here quite a few times.
We enjoyed a meal here while exploring the streets of Joo Chiat.
We ordered shui zhu yu aka Sichuan boiled fish.
My spouse loved the yu xiang rou si as it reminded us of home.
I enjoyed the ma po tou fu. It tasted better than another Chinese restaurant which we tried along East Coast.
The dishes here were well-seasoned.
Unfortunately, they have a price hike recently.
We will probably head to Chinatown if we like to try spicy food.
Food was fantastic, probably
One of the best 水煮鱼 and 口水鸡 we’ve had. We requested for less oil and they made it in the right proportion. Environment is clean and (unlike most SiChuan places) is orderly and comfortable to dine in. Will definitely return for another meal.
Food is great, environment is great but the long waiting time of 45 mins for the first dish to arrive after ordering is too much to bear.
Subsequent dish is about 15 to 20 mins per dish
3 dish = budget 1.5 hours waiting time
The time taken for me to get to China town to eat sze Chuan food is definitely faster than coming here. Lol
That being said there's alot of customers here who doesn't mind waiting 😂
Very authentic food and atmosphere. Reminds me of similar restaurants in China. Reasonable prices too!
This might be my favourite Chinese restaurant in SG.
Reasonable price and all dishes are so delicious!
Food is very good! Eat so much and still want to eat more😊😂😂😳.
Superb Szechuan Food. Nice casual environment with beer! Open air car park nearby. Expect to spend $30 per head.
Recommended by my friend when I have craving for Sichuan foodie, Indeed very authentic and reasonable pricing. Green Peppercorn Fish is a dish cannot be missed. I have 2 bowls of rice with this dish alone. Am eatery place not to be missed!!
Price - on the high side but matches the portion they give
Taste - 5/5 even better than Tai Er if I do say so myself
Noise - The place could use some absorbers because the noise bounces off the walls and amplifies people talking
Service - understaffed.
I went on a Friday night and it was packed! We made reservations in advance. There’s no maximum dining time which allows patrons to enjoy the food fully. Really miss having the time to enjoy food!
Food were superb, very spiced and strong kick of Mala. I think it is Authentic Sichuan food. Lamb in mala soup with cumin was the most memorable dish, it was 10/10. Will be back for sure
Must try the following
- Stir Fried Mala Frog
- Garlic Clam
- Double Mushroom Chicken pot
- Sichuan Spicy Pop Corn Chicken
- Fried Rosti!
Came here twice and food standard still the same. noisy and crowd though. But a good place for friends to hangout over cup of beer
Amazing place, best chinese cuisine in Singapore. really unfortunately the spice standards really fell as compared to 8 years ago. Waiting for you guys to do online deliveries! 😀
Shiok! I love their fried intestine, its a must order.
The spiciness level is also quite ok, xiao la or "small spicy" should be quite tolerable for the average singaporean tastebud so judge accordingly.
Some of the fried dishes taste similar to the kind of seasoning used in the pasar malam fried chicken cutlet.
Authentic and Sumptuous Sze Chuan Cuisine! Rich flavours and great places for gatherings! Friendly staff and awesome chef!
There's plenty of carpark spaces just opposite the restaurant, convenient for anyone driving down.
The food here is so good, especially their sichuan spicy popcorn chicken, garlic clams, sichuan stir fried potato slides(something like rosti). Their service is really good but you should book/reserve a table before coming.
service abit slow in peak hours cos they are popular.
best choice for la zi ji in the area. had 酸辣鱼汤 and the fish was pretty good
One of the best Sichuan cusine near my place.
Top 3 fav sichaun here! Green peppercorn fish, sichaun fried chicken, fried green beans and hot and sour noodles top top dishes!
The food was delicious! We had fried pig intestine and garlic clams. My husband and I finished every bit. Can't wait to try the other items on the menu.
Food is really good. Keep comin back for more. Authentic Sichuan food. Ingredients are fresh. Service is good and friendly.
Takes effort to deviate from the Sichuan standards. The fish soup with mustard greens proved that trying new things is worth it.
Good and reasonable price. Still lacking a bit on that Sichuan mala flavor.
Have been visiting this place past few years one or two times a month. .
Recommend the spicy fish 水煮鱼 $18 and mapo toufu 麻婆豆腐 $10。
Price hike recently after minor renovation. It was $15 and $8 before the reno.
Brought My Team for Reunion Dinner in January. They asked me to arrange again as the miss the food. Just googled the address and thought to leave a review here. A repeated request. Need I say more? Hahaha
Cosy place and reasonable restaurant pricing. Food served slow due to peak dining period & means dishes are freshly cook. Great food worth the wait. Waiting is part of Singapore culture.
Authentic sichuan food. Very spicy.
It’s one of the best places to dine. Amazing food, excellent service for a great price. Loved every moment. Would love to go back anytime !
One of the better Szechuan restaurants in Singapore. Had the spicy fried chicken 辣子鸡 and the spicy fish with oil 水煮鱼
A very unassuming restaurant that serves authentic Chinese food. Great flavours and prompt service.
Best tu dou si (shredded potatoes) I've ever had. I chose the sweet and sour version. It came with a surprising wok hei. Couldn't stop eating it.
Super authentic, and the best part is that it’s not too oily. So happy to hve this in the hood!! Keep it up. Love how clean it is
Authentic Sichuan food. The place is 80% full during dinner time on weekdays. Expect to wait a while for your food to be served after ordering, could be due to the lack of manpower.
Good dining place with family.
Cheap and good.
No gst and service charge.
Spicy food for spicy lover.
Food was great, the fish and mutton was fantastic.
Good and authentic Sichuan food
Nice food nice service, worth to try!
Delicious barbequed and roast meats at a reasonable price
Food is awesome. Must TRY!
shiok!
Good food with great servicing crew
Nice food
Service is fantastic
Very good food and services
Awesome, fury good
Love the food!
Very good food
Authentic!
The food is very delicious. Not too spicy, not too salty. There are also many options. Friends who are afraid of spicy food can order non-spicy food.
The environment is good, clean and tidy. The dishes are not only beautiful in appearance, but also taste great and authentic Sichuan. It is really full of color and taste. Moreover, there are quite a lot of food choices and the prices are not high, so it is suitable to go with the family.
Spicy chicken and fish-flavored shredded pork are good,
The stir-fried fatty intestines are delicious, but the bullfrog and boiled tripe are not recommended.
I've had it two or three times and it's really delicious. Most of the dishes are authentic
So delicious😋not spicy but very fragrant. The bullfrog is delicious😋fresh👍😎
Tastes good
The price is very reasonable, the food is delicious and fresh and the service staff is very friendly👍👍👍👍👍
