Reviews of Fan Ji Speciality Noodle
Ordered a bowl of Mee Pok with Prawn for $7, which I initially thought was pricey. First impression: the portion of Mee Pok seemed small, but I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the prawn. The Mee Pok was slightly hard at first, but after a few bites and stirring, it reached the right texture and paired well with the sauce. The bowl of soup was packed with ingredients, justifying the price. The prawn was fresh and even better than what I had at a famous prawn noodle stall the week before. Overall, it was an enjoyable breakfast.
Personally I love the soup and the prawn meat I ordered more than the Mee Pok noodle. Haha! 😄 The soup was robust with full of flavours! Lots of veggies and minced pork in it!! Prawn paste meat was soft and tasty too! The soup itself already won my heart and i will definitely go back again just for it.
The handmade meepok is really good. The noodle is wellmade & has a nice spring when you bite and not floury at all. The soup is sweet & flavourful but a little strong porky taste for me. The fish dumpling is a must try, the skin is made from fish too. Texture is a little chewy and doesn't fall apart like regular flour dumpling skin, very nice!
If you want to know what the best standard of BCM you can get in SG, this is it - speaking as a BCM lover.
I've been a long time fan of the offshoot stall, now known as Ah Li Mee Pok (at the time of writing) - the one which has the Japanese fusion. I live closer to that stall, but today is my first opportunity trying the "master's" stall, and I was simply blown away.
First, the queue is long. Be prepared to wait, especially if people order multiple orders. But as I observed, I understand what else contributes to the long wait. The careful preparation of each bowl adds to the time, but it also ensured the perfect and consistent delivery of every bowl.
The soup - where by a new bowl is freshly heated up for every order, is cooked with raw minced pork and pork slices, so the broth is super rich and packs an umami burst with each sip.
The noodles - one of the most QQ and springy noodles I've had. And the dry sauce that coats the noodles is also umami packed.
The ingredients - are very fresh. The abalone is ok, nothing spectacular, you do get 4 slices for a $6 bowl you order. The meat has been covered. The prawn is large, fresh and sweet, that you know they use the best ingredients.
If you can wait, I highly recommend this place.
Easily one of the mee pok in the West and probably in Singapore. Always a long queue closer to lunch, expect to wait at least for half an hour.
The mee pok was different from the rest, slightly thicker and more Q. It gave a nice bite when you chewed the noodles.
The prawn paste balls were another unusual find. It was sweet and tasty, goes really well the their chilli sauce!
Special Mushroom Mee Pok (Fish Maw) ($10) - Thicker mee pok than typical, more like ban mian. Flavour of sauce was good. Had some vinegar and lard. Not as spicy as typical. Mushrooms were firm. The fish maw was fine. The dumplings were just average. Bak chor and cabbage in the soup. Had better ingredients like abalone and fish maw, which went well with mee pok.
The soup is so sweet and savoury with pork slices and cabbage. A must have for soup lovers. The pork slices are so tender and perfectly done
At $6 for the smallest size, the noodles is less than a fist full. The two pieces of scallop is also rather small, about the size of a 20 cent coin and only thicker than two coins. And lastly, a slice of abalone. I would think it's reasonably good value for money and the quantity is sufficient.
The noodles are spicy and springy. Absolute choke full of flavours. From the minced pork to the mushroom and almost invisible pieces of fried pork lard. A treat for those who crave strong flavours.
If there is any doubt that inflation is here, a visit to this stall in neighbourhood coffee shop is enough: from $3.50 to now $6. Saving grace is the fresh prawn. Small portion for noodle, so those who are hungry will add another portion.
I was here around 11:05am and no queue at ally. I ordered the cheapest $6 Mushrooms Mee Pok.
Ranges from $6; $8 & $10. I would say their noodles is very tasty with the typical ‘Q Q’ texture.
Their soup base is also very good and for $6; I would say the ingredients they give is quite generous!
Would definitely drop by here for their noodles again!
Good bowl of BCM.
Soup was flavorful and noodles well cooked.
Decent for price
A leveled up mee pok noodle dish. It's like being served two dishes, and that's why price is also a bit higher. The noodles are more on the tougher side, and not much in the serving but one can always ask for more for free.
Went there for lunch at about 12pm and we were the last in the queue before it was sold out. Waited for about 30 min to finally get our food.. unfortunately, no more mee pok noodle available. There was mee kia or kway teow though..
The taste is quite good but the waiting time is not..
May be a good place for breakfast/brunch....
The original Ah Hoe Mee Pok, heard that he retired earlier but reopened at this new location. Rich ingredients including a large prawn, abalone and good amount of vegetables for $5. Unique source complementing the complex taste of seafood and mince pork. Best in the West!
Was in the queue for about 15mins, it moved very fast. The noodles are bouncy, ingredients were enough and if you need extra noodles it is “FREE”. The soup is so flavourful.
Will come by again for more noodles for sure😍👍👍
Have heard/read about Ah Hoe and managed to get myself here today..in between a bfst at 9am and a 12.30 lunch appt🤣🤣
I decided to try the dumplings soup instead of the Noodles.
For $6, i had 6 nice sized meaty dumplings in a deep bowl, garnished with chinese cabbage and minced pork.
THE SOUP is wholesome goodness in a bowl. Some have commented on the 'tasteless soup', but the beauty is it's natural pork/bone taste that is light on the tastebuds and not being overly salted/'ajinomoto-ed'.....maybe more apt to label this as 'home styled goodness'?
Perhaps those who like it more 'flavorful' can add soy sauce to give it a lift.
Dumplings - credit to the chef for the overall shape, ingredients, freshness, 'cooking' and the old school 'double boil soup bowl' presentation. Really nothing to fault here.
For $6 you are paying for quality and fresh food cooked with love.
1 improvement would be for the person taking the orders and handling cash to use gloves or tongs to pick up the fresh dumplings from the chiller.
Taking away 0.5 stars & rate this 4.5 Stars overall
Very delicious noodles. $5 per bowl. A tab expensive but worth it.
My number 1 with mee kia still taste the same, bonus bigger prawn now. Thanks Oliver for continuing Eric’s legacy!
Solid mee pok; not your typical style of mee pok.
Lady boss definitely knows how to cook the noodles; found them to be very springy and just nice. Very liberal with the ingredients and the prawn used was huge. Soup was also really good and pepperish.
10/10 reccomend to those around the area. For its price point, it’s really worth to come down and eat a solid bowl of meepok.
Mee pok was very good texture and thick and no extra charge for extra noodles, fresh and crispy lard, prawn paste was bouncy, however soup was full of msg as felt terribly thirsty afterwards, the only plus point there are cabbage in the soup
Great Bak Chor Mee though it is not the traditional Bak Chor Mee. It is a different approach but I liked the hot soup base that goes with it with it's combination of meat, dumpling, vegetables and prawn (I liked the prawn version) though there are different combinations available. My go-to place for a Good Bak Chor Mee.
Mr Chia or Ah Hoe as many would address him. Got into 35 minutes queue to get my share of Mee Pok. The way he boiled the Noodle to the right texture that is tender to the palate. The cooked meats are soft juices and tender. Soup base and Noodle sauce are slightly above average. Not too expensive with one average size prawn and 2 slices of abalone. Plus lots of minced and sliced posts
One of the best around. Nice chilli sauce and full bodied soup. Used to be better when they add mushroom stew sauce but still good .
Update - changed chilli sauce, replaced some ingredients and raised the price to $6....no queue even on Sunday lunch time. Hope they revert to original recipe. I'll just stick to soup version for now.
Update - they reinstated the stewed mushroom again.
The noodles whether dry or inside the soup both very yummy and lots of good ingredients!
Only have to queue and wait a long time as each plate or noel of noodles are cooked there and then and the ingredients and soup also cook once the order is being made per customer!
Therefore if one customer order few bowls/plates of noodles the queue might look not so long yet the waiting time will be long!
During lunch time the queue could be as long as half an hour to 45 minutes!
Standard of food are good only have to be patient while waiting for the cooked noodles!
The only thing is it is suitated in a coffee shop so with only ceiling fans , so if wearing not thick type of clothing should be okay.
Nice tasting Bah Chor Mee in the west district. Soup is tasty, with enough vinegar and chilli in the noodles. Special made dipping sauce as well. Worth the queue if you happen to be in the west and looking for a more than decent noodles place.
Best mee pok that I have had in a long while with the soup full of richness. Just felt that the prawn though fresh is unnecessary to the dish, would rather that they include the meat ball instead having to order it separately.
Fresh ingredients, but the portion of the noodles is really small. Overall a very enjoyable bowl of meepok.
I enjoyed the dumplings as well. Long queue during lunch time.
One of the best MeePok places in SG. It’s not the traditional kind with the mushrooms but it is so so yummy!
It can get super crowded so go off peak hours either super early or after lunch.
Highly recommend.
The noodles carefully dresses with chilli sauce, abalone slice, meat ball, minced meat and fresh big prawns, with a splash of pork lard oil coating the noodles perfectly.I love the soup with the cabbage kinda brings a subtle sweetness to the cloudy and satisfying broth. Honestly, want to eat Ah Hoe Mee Pok must prepare to queue but worthy for it 👍👍👍
Love the texture of the noodles here. Always cooked to perfection (al dente), very different from your typical BCM.
++Additional noodles at no extra charge!
Soup was filled generously with fresh ingredients, perfect for the chilly weather!
Expect queue, it takes time for them to prepare the noodles. Tasty soup and quality ingredients, worth it if the queue is not too long. $6 for its signature mee pok.
dont get deceive by the mee pok. The mee kia is way better!
The queue moves pretty slowly because every order is meticulously prepared upon order. Ingredients are fresh and portions are generous. Definitely worth the money you pay.
One of the top Bak chor mee place in Singapore. For 5 dollar they have you a serving of dry noodles with three slices of abalone, three slices! And a bowl of mince + lean pork soup with very fresh prawn! The vinegar n chili combination reminds me of tai hwa noodles, superb. The unsung hero of the dish for me is the abalone and that dipping sauce. That abalone gives more fragrance the more you chew and that dipping chili has a citrusy note which complements seafood so well! Do finish the soup for a surprise "burnt" taste since they cook the soup in the same pot over and over, the "woke hei" like flavour develops!
PS don't confuse this with the Japanese meepok
Need to Q for about 20mins. Very unique soup based with ingredients. Very tasty. Not my first time though. Can ask for more noodles (free).
If the Boss is cooking, you see long Q, excellent but price from $6-10. I go for HC 503 $2.50-4$4.00. Toilets in that coffee shop is too narrow.
their dish are more to sea food style, not bad. i was hoping for mee pork style flavour.
If you like a special bowl of extra chili mee pok, it is a cannot miss place. I like the ambience, quiet place to have a nice bowl of noodle and a cup of coffee for breakfast
Better than average noodle. But it is a bit pricey. Moreover, they have removed scallop from their dish while maintaining the price.
The noodles are cooked just right (very Q). The accompanying soup is rich & flavourful... Having also tried Li Hoe Mee pok... My verdict is the master is better...
Tried the mee kia and it goes well with the condiments and ingredients. Good experience at affordable price.
Decent but a far cry if compared to the original Ah Hoe mee pork from Albert St that move to Kitchener St before closing down. Just the chilli sause alone no way near original.
Decent food. I am not too sure if it commands $5 for a bowl of noodles. Long queue I guess they take orders really slow.
Noodles were cooked perfectly and soup portion was generous. Have been here numerous times, never disappoints.
Good! Fantastic! So far I have not tasted any equivalent mee pok to Ah Li mee pok @ Blk 710 Clementi West. Ah Hoe is Singapore made and Ah Li is Japanese made as far I am concern.😉😃😀😁
One of the better Bak cho mee around. Do note that the mee pok serving is very small, about 1/2 of usual serving elsewhere so you might want to upsize.
Taste is ok. Quantity of ingredients justify the higher minimum price of $6 per bowl.
Pretty standard bowl of BCM. Pretty pricey thou, pricing starts from $6. But addition of noodle is free!
Nice meepok, one of the better ones in SG. Soup has a clean seafood/abalone taste. Not much to complain about
Agreed!!! The best BCM I have ever eaten. Will frequent soon. Keep It up Eric.
Decent portions and good minced meat soup as well! love the dumplings
No charge for extra noodle. New item on the menu i.e. handmade prawn paste soup no. 7
This is my goto for bak chor mee in the west ever since his japanese disciple went back to japan. abit pricy but still better than alot other places
Noodle is okay. Nice soup with a lots of ingredients with the queue and $$.
love the chilli, prawn dumplings, al dente of the mee pok, the sweetness of the soup and cabbage, and the addition of fake abalone
Add noodle is free of charge
High SES Bak Chor Mee. With abalone and prawn. Quite nice.
$6 upwards.
Barely a wait @ 830am on a Thursday.
Delicious Dry mee pok.
The noodles & soup are very tasty but sadly they're increasing the price
Every week will go and eat...Nice food.
Can I say that it's better than Tai W__.
Good taste mee pok with Abalone
The best Minced Meat noodle ever.
Great noodle and price is reasonable
still serve good Mee Pok
Nice noodles... worth the queue
Overprice and small portions
Great tasting noodles
ok
Ah How Meeting Pok, run by a Japanese owner, is located in a different location, but has the same name and menu, so I guess they belong to the same chain.
What you can find over there, but not here, is miso ramen and soy sauce ramen. The only ones available here are mushroom ramen and seafood ramen, but locals only order these two types at the store over there, so I guess that's fine.
Both restaurants are delicious, but the seasoning is different. What they have in common is that both stores are lined up side by side.
The famous Ahe noodles are thin and cooked with great care. The taste is great. You can cook noodles with both hands. It is rare. It is suitable for foodies to come back. The price is reasonable.
It's okay, but it's a little slow at the beginning.
It's okay, isn't it delicious?
The noodles here are thin and delicious.
World class bowl of meepok hidden in West Coast. Noodles are al dente blended with their own house chilli and vinegar. Packs a punch. Big fresh prawns cooked on the spot with cabbage and minced meat makes the soup worth to drink it empty.
