Reviews of fennel by komala vilas
Ordered Poor Set and Plain Dosai Set. Food were freshly cooked and they were very delicious. Food arrived promptly and service staff were attentive and friendly.
We visited last night to celebrate a friend’s birthday with a group of 18 people. They don’t usually take reservations on weekends, operating on a walk-in-only basis but that didn’t stop the amazing staff from going above and beyond to accommodate us.
A huge thank you to the girl at the counter, who greeted us warmly and worked quickly to organize seating for our large group. The manager also stepped in to ensure everything was arranged smoothly even though it was a busy evening. Their flexibility and effort to make us feel comfortable, despite our last-minute arrival, truly stood out.
Food was amazing as always.
Bread was so so so nice but Thosai I don’t like the way they did… even the peanut one tastes so wired.
We stay close and so we are regular. Great Indian (North n south) option in River Valley. Food is good quality n tasty. Ambience is v lively and staff friendly. We totally ❤️ love it.
Amazing Indian food! While they have traditional Indian food, majority of their menu is a Western/Indian fusion. We had six dishes for two people and it was around $20 per person. Great value for the quality of food. The food is quite spicy but really flavorful. The staff was also quite accommodating in veganizing some of the dishes. I will surely be coming back here quite a few times to try the other dishes and reorder some of my favorites.
Love the concept of having a twist on traditional South Indian dishes while remaining a vegetarian restaurant. Fennel manages to maintain your familiar Komala Vilas flavours and offers more. Tapas dishes are unique and rich in masala and flavour. Some are good while others like kothu parata was OK. The mains are also good, except for jini dosa (looks different from what you'd expect, but still tasty) and mutton set dosa (plating made it look like a kids meal). Overall, some different chutneys available, so that was a pleasant surprise. Relatively affordable and not too overpriced despite the concept. Thumbs up 👍 pics include Jini dosa, mutton set dosa, dosa set meal, rasam kothu parata, chicken kebab and gobi munchurian. Not in pics: mini chicken sandwich.
Beware of potentially small portion sizes, may disappoint some.
Nice ambience and extension to Komala Vilas - the first Fennel in Singapore. This is a fusion restaurant with pizzas, biryani and rolls on the menu
Food is reasonably priced, with dishes ranging an average of 15-17S$.
We had the crab biryani which was awesome. They also served dessert (gajar halwa) with the Biryani, which was superb! They have a lot of biryani and meal options. We also ordered the paneer pizza which was not that great though. The ginger chai was good and coffee was ok - not the typical filter coffee you would get at the original Komala Vilas. I think worth a try for fusion Desi cuisine!
Vegetarian food availability: 5 stars
An authentic Indian restaurant with a modern twist. It is also a fusion and vegetarian restaurant. They have vegan options.
We had dinner over here and the food was delicious. Everything from the plating to the service was meticulous. I enjoyed the dessert Mysore pak and chocolate. I enjoyed the appetizers as well. The rasam tapioca pani puri was crunchy and oozing with greatness. For the main course, they served paneer butter masala and aloo gobi. The naan was hot and crisp.
Overall, amazing food and ambiance.
Interesting attempt at a modern twist by the Komala Vilas brand. Unfortunately food doesn't quite deliver. While I can put the disenjoyment of items like the "tapioca rasam pani puri" down to my conservative palate, this place needs to nail the classics like dosas which were passable but not great.
Ordered cheese wada pav, too cheesy and kills the flavour of wada pav. Bit expensive at 7.5 for 1. Mumbai dosa was okish, the chutnies were good, can pay more for them. Liked Rasam pani puri, with a twist. Overall food is ok but pricy, can think of going again once a while.
Great food in a nicely decorated restaurant. We had the roasted brussel sprouts (masala, mustard seeds, almonds and other stuff, charred to perfection), pani puri with tapioca rasam (masala potatos as usual, but topped with roasted mung beans, other crunchy bits and a curry leaf), utthapam, and coriander chutney thosai. Chutneys and sambar were a delight, as expected of Komala Vilas. Their desserts were original but a little too sweet. It's a shame though that their service leaves much to be desired. Except for one of the more senior service staff members, the service team was impolite or seemed uncomfortable with their work. For example, when we got the attention of a server, she sauntered over to our table and asked ' yah?' a little rudely. Not what you'd expect in a proper sit down restaurant.
Finally found some Indian food in Singapore.
Ambience was nice and clean.
Staff was friendly.
Food was decent, chai and dosa being the best.
Quality and tasty food, unique menu items .
Great staff and service. Very attentive staff which make you feel at home.
I eat here a few times a week. Great menu, executed well. Highly recommended
My friends and I really loved their Dosas and the mini idlys. The palak paneer was also really nice. Didn't even miss the meat.
Had the plain dosa. It was quite good taste wise. Very nice servers and had a lot of open sears for a Friday noon timing
Amazing food. Quick service. Good ambiance !
Thanks guru Preeti for your careing us with Ur relationship for us almost 2+ year when ever we Visited fennel we feel like a home
Thanks once again gurupreet ☺️☺️
Really good south indian food. Very clean and good services too. Would definitely return.
Good service, place is comfortable. Maybe for takeaway they can try to find a way to minimise use of plastic containers.
Quality meal for a good price. Love the concept. The price point is good. One of the only dosa places that is a bit more upmarket in terms of decor and comfort.
Loved the ambience. The staff are super friendly. The taste is wonderful.
Although we had ordered from Fennel a few times before, it was only after we moved to River Valley area that we became a regular at this place. It’s rare to find such a quality Indian vegetarian restaurant around this locality. If you are staying in the Orchard/River Valley area, you can easily avoid the trip to Little India and hop down here for authentic South Indian vegetarian food, served fresh and piping hot.
The restaurant is cozy, seating is comfortable, and the service is impeccable. We are always greeted with a warm smile and cheerful welcome by Sushender Reddy whenever we walk into the restaurant, making us feel at home, and he makes excellent coffee too! The staff at the counter always greets us and engages in warm conversations, and you feel like part of the family. We go atleast 3-4 times a week, and the food quality has always been good and the customer service always at its best.
This is a long overdue post. I have never written a restaurant review before, but for the past few months we have been frequenting Fennel atleast 3 days a week and it is all due to consistently good food that makes one miss home food less, and more importantly, due to the exceptional service of the staff there, especially Reddy - and both definitely deserve a mention.
The restaurant menu is standard. But be it the crispy onion uthappams, the pillow-soft mini podi idlis, the rightly-balanced creamy iced coffee or the piping hot cup of filter coffee (all our regulars and must-haves!), everything is prepared and served with smiles and warmth. Fennel definitely makes you feel at home. All credit to the enthusiastic staff!
Being an ardent foodie and restaurant nomad, I have encountered many good waiters but few go to the level of phenomenal service. Reddy is attentive, prompt, friendly, caring and someone who immediately puts a smile to your face with his attitude. I am sure that even years later, we would still remember and talk about him and enthusiastically recommend Fennel to anyone looking for some good, homely South Indian food.
Had a chance to try their breakfast idily and vada. Idlys could have been a little more soft and steamy hot. The vada on the other hand was fresh and hot. A little pricier than Komalas due to resto ambience etc...
Service is fast and efficient. Deepak, my server was really good.
Great food and ambience, Great service...Very enthusiastic and great service by Siddu! We feel so welcome, we always come back!
I have been here several times, but the service is inconsistent. Sometimes the order takes a lot of time to be delivered to the table. Even though the taste is good, service can be improved a lot.
A biiiig thank you to Sushender and Ajay for being so amazing in recommending and serving with a smile. They made my dine in experience so many times more memorable with their positive and so welcoming attitude. Thank you.
First time visitor opinion > Authentic tasty Indian meals, Spacious seating, Pleasant staff, Decent Pricing. Will visit again. One star less - wishing for more vegan friendly options on the menu. Perhaps Dosas without butter / ghee etc. just coconut oil makes great south indian food!
Food is great- really flavoursome across all dishes
Unfortunately, the service was a complete let down swinging between abrupt and inhospitable. As a tourist it is rare that one finds restaurants in Singapore with customer service that can be a let down- sadly this was an occasion on which I felt it let us down.
Top notch quality South Indian food. Brilliant menu with conventional options and an interesting fusion of cteative options as well.
I've been here multiple times now and have consistently experienced the taste and quality being maintained.
Highly recommended :)
Definitely definitely have the dosa meal. It's a huge portion but so so worth it
I have been to Komala Vilas and really like their dosas! this was my first time to visit Fennel and the food was absolutely yummy!!!... for all Pain puri/Gol Gappa lovers do try the Rasam Pani puri. I do not have any photos to share, as we were so busy eating the food that we forgot to take any pictures.
Good quality and fresh food and love all the chutneys that come along with the Dosa!
Greeted inside outlet with excellent service. Ordered a Mini Dosa with Tangy Gravy, Chapati Set and normal mixture set, all takeaway. Mini dosa comes in different varieties. We had the dosa with curry leaves. Dosa goes deliciously well with the gravy- 5/5. However the dhal for the chapati was rather watery-2/5. Chapati taste good with Chana masala- 4/5.
Overall great food, better to eat when it’s readily served. Will try dine-in the next time.
Highly recommended full flavour Indian vegetarian food. Was very pleased. Reasonably priced. The cauliflower fried Gobi Manchurian was the best!
Excellent food, good staff and decent seating. I would especially recommend the butter cheese and garlic dosai if you're looking for something unique. Otherwise, the chapati meal is really great as well.
Absolutely amazing experience at the new Fennel komala Vilas restaurant 😀. We were a regular customer at the original Komala Vilas restaurant Just recently we found out about new restaurant and got so excited to try it. It was such an amazing experience!! The ambiance, food, menu choices everything was top notch!!! 👌👌 my son is very picky and he loved everything!!! So happy for this new restaurant 💗
Today 17 july.. same bad experience again axtually worst..

Great food. Location and smart pricing..
All the staff is excellent.. pleasant and smiling and courteous.
Except the tall guy thin with forehead Tika.. and gold bracelets (don't know his name).. acts rather like the boss of a night club..
Wish he could change his attitude to more service with a smile and welcoming..
Outstanding vegan and vegetarian south Indian food. It's rare to find south Indian food presented in a nice way, this place will surprise you. Absolute gem in the heart of Singapore
Very good place. Nice food. Courteous staff. Delicious cuisine
as an indian the food is quite similar to mainland india , a very unconventional combination called the Rasam pani puri caught my eye ...& it was a good to try dish...all food is vegetarian & they have managed to bring out a nice texture
the staff is also helpful , when i sat down the table was a bit wobbly , before i can point it out someone came to me & adjusted the table leg
Great food and lovely decor in the place. The masala dosa, mini idly and utthapham were all nice. Great to have a South Indian place in this neighbourhood. Doesn’t hurt the wallet either!
Try it!
Very good vegetarian food.
The following are must try:
Mumbai dosa
Mango lassi
Satay
Can avoid the following:
Gochujang dosa
Mango chutney dosa
Delicious food.
I've tried dosa in uk & India, but they were so much taster here
Excellent dosas and thalis!
Reliable taste and quality. Chili mini idly and Masala dosa highly recommended. Top it off with a masala tea! Service staff is very courteous.
Great addition to the neighborhood. Pretty varied menu. Good brews. Nice interiors! Yummy gravies .... hope to come back many more times
Excellent food. Maybe a touch more expensive than the iconic Komala Vilas at Little India..but worth a visit none the less
Great location and food! The menu has evolved to include traditional menu items.
A place that you can visit multiple times.
Ambience and Service is good. Food wise it's strictly ok. Coffee is very dilute and tea is over steeped.
This restaurant is very good. They have very good taste of indian food. The staff is also very friendly.
Basically fast food. $5.50 for a plain thosai, quick and efficient
A good place to eat dosa. Clean, air conditioned, reliable, good quality Indian vegetarian food.
Very good good & service ! Sushenderreddy did a fantastic job in making us feeling at home & prompt courteous service .
Good homemade food that's also relatively affordable, but the tea could be better
Just ordered delivery from Fennel. Tasty food delivered warm. Enjoyed a lot.
