Reviews of Fragrant Garden
1st time trying. We ordered 6 items + 1 dessert, and total cost $300. Good is generally good, with outdoor (aircon) seating inside the mall. Easily accessible and parking is available just below the building. The Teo Chew fried Hor fun is very tasty and have Wok Hei. The fish soup cost about $100, and fresh fish and can top up the soup. Overall is good and recommended.
Good food and good service at a reasonable price. Everyone raved about the Halibut fish which we had Hong Kong style. I'd recommend the flaming pork too. For dessert we had the yam paste, was nice and smooth.
Place was located at an old school mall. Excellent service and food.
Excellent: Prawn roll, Poached prawns (cold), Pomfret (teochew style), har cheong gai,
Good: Fragrant flaming pork (vinegar-ed),
Okay: Oyster omelette, fish maw soup
Will definitely be back to try the other dishes as well
We came here after watching the Ghib Ojisan channel.
All dishes were pleasantly delicious and the staff service was excellent.
Braised duck in teo chew style dish is thinly sliced which is easy for consumption, the tao gua in the dish is very tender. Teochew cold crab is very fresh. Pork jelly teochew style has very nice texture. Kong ba bao has very good balance of meat and fat, tastes very nice with the tender bun. Yam paste dessert is not too sweet which is just right.
Ordered Yam Ring, Prawn Roll, Chai Po Koay Teow & crabmeat fried rice. To my surprise, the food tasted mediocre and below average. Not sure why the review was so high. The keropok and Acar was so so. I won’t recommend.
Taste is good... must try famous spice oyster omelette and yam dessert.
Absolutely delicious. Love every dish we had. Teochew steamed promfret blew my mind.

The shopping mall, if you can even call it that, its run down and parking is challenging as the carpark is pretty narrow.
But the food more than makes up for the venue.
We ordered 6 dishes: hae cho (deep fried pan rolls), yam ring, braised duck, kong bak pau (braised pork slab in a soft bun), chye por (pickled veg) fried kway teow, and a dish called "7 types of vegetables". We also ended up ordering a dessert - yam paste.
The veggies won the day hands down. Tasty and not oily.
Duck was good but the towkwa was a little sour.
Yam ring was ok, the ring itself nothing to shout about but the veggies and nuts in it were great.
Hae cho was ok
Kway teow was delicious though oily (guess not much choice or the noodle will stick to the pan)
Kong bak pau was good though the meat a little too fatty.
And finally, the yam paste was delicious. I would have preferred it without the shallots though, as it sort of overwhelmed the paste abit.
The sambal chilli was good, esp if you squeeze in the lime provided. For someone who can't eat chilli, I liked it alot. The crackers are fresh.
Spent total of S$215 for 5 persons. Not bad, I would say.
Overall a good experience. Will go back again.
Old school casual place. Food is nice, servings small, prices a little on the high side.
On the lowest floor of serangoon shopping center. Ample space for dining as the tables are located outside of the restaurant, like on the lobby space of the basement.
Simple place with good teo Chew delicacy.
The dishes are nice. The fish soup red snapper is good. The whole dining experience is nice 🙂. We chose the food, the staffs recommend the size. Overall just nice portion for everyone. Abit ulu and out of place, but we will go back again as the price is consider reasonable with high standard of the food.
The service of the staff needs much improvement
The changes made to my selected dishes were not followed properly
We wanted the fish to be 750g but the kitchen served a 1.2kg fish
Result in the bill to be much higher
The staff even asked my sis to hold the plates for her while she served the table
The staff didn’t handle the situation properly
She keep claiming that 7pax is very difficult to order cos neither small nor big
She could have proposed which dish can go for small portion and which for big portions
She is not professional and not willing to take responsibility
We end up not able to finish the food
Old school Teochew restaurant with very good food at reasonable prices. Standouts were the chye Poh Kway Teow, both the oyster omelette and chye Poh omelette, the hae chor, the halibut steamed Teochew style, and orh née. It was packed on a weekend so book in advance! Fantastic meal overall.
Been there many times and the dishes are always robust and tasty. This time the pork belly and bun tasted different and looked different. It is typically braised in a dark sauce, this time it was in chilly oil. The fish maw broth was watery. Not sure if I will go back again.
All the food were delicious and the staff were very helpful with pouring the tea and distributing the food to all the tables we had. Would come again! (Especially with the $20 voucher :)
My favourite place for authentic Teochew cuisine!
Good traditional food but average service and overpriced
We understand that Fragrant Garden serves good traditional teochew cuisine.
Last Sunday our group of fifteen adults had our dinner at Fragrant. The place was very crowded when we arrived.
The service was below average as the staff were busy with the large crowd and we had a long wait for our ngoh heong as the staff missed out our order!
Generally , the food were good and tasty except for one or two dishes that were too salty.
The fried Mee sua and yam paste were the best dishes for our meal .
However , this restaurant had really overpriced their food .
What a surprisingly good dining experience. The restaurant is much better than I remember. Everything I tried was good, from the chye poh kwya teow, oyster omelette, steames fish, to the traditional teochew cold pork jelly. A surprisingly good and affordable dining experience in an otherwise old and decrepit mall in the heartlands.
It’s located in a rundown quiet mall but this place is still bustling. The Teochew food here is good. In particular, the orh nee (yam paste) here is very interesting because they add fried shallots which gives the dessert dish a nice savoury element and also with a new texture.
Nice traditional teochew restaurant if you are not looking for something fancy and posh where it is situated in a slightly rundown shopping center. Food is quite tasty especially for those who missed the traditional feeling. Price is abit on the high side. I recommend only the fried oyster and other dishes are normal.
Very authentic Teochew food with affordable prices, surprisingly nice and comfortable atmosphere, good service, air-con, and accepts credit cards. A really nice find in an old, half-empty strata-titled mall.
Yummy teochew cuisine, a little old school decor and nothing fancy, located at an quiet atrium area of the mall, this unassuming restaurants serves very good fare. Definitely must try, the orh ni (taro yam paste dessert) is great and the flaming pork ribs is quite an experience.
It's a great Teochew cuisine restaurant. No braised goose, but braised duck. Oyster egg dishes, various fish (pomfret available), shrimp, sea cucumber, and an excellent Teochew sweet taro dessert. It's located inside a shopping mall and they place their tables out in the open area during dinner times when the other shops have closed.
Food is good however service is slow. Dishes come about 10-15 mins apart which spoils the experience.
Hard to find such good genuine teochew food anymore! Nice quiet spot great for families. Great value for money too. My family and I come here all the time and we never get sick of the food.
Taste normal but there are much better toechew food in other place n cheaper too. Due to the famous old shop name that's why the Q n booking is always required on week end.
Quality, clean and fragrant restaurant
No frills environment. But to my surprise the Teochew style cusine was beyond my expectation. Tuck in a old shopping centre ground floor, Table are set within the attrium n expect full house most of the night so my advice book in advance
Authentic teochew food at mid-range prices. Fast service. Plus, you get to dine in the middle of the shopping mall's central space (I was just beside the staircase). That is really retro...
It’s getting better from my last visit. Can see that they have better and more staff to handle the full house of customers. Food quality improved too and best to call to reserve your table.
Good place to eat some teochew cuisines such as steamed pomfret, halibut, sea cucumber, champagne pork, oyster omelette, fried kway teow and yam paste!
Favourite place for good food! Reasonable pricing.
Best wokhey
Authentic Teochew eatery. Best to call ahead and reserve a table, especially if it's a family gathering. Staff service could be surly but that gives the place character I guess?
Very authentic teochew dishes. Orh nee was nice with shallot oil. Teochew Steam halibut was fantastic.
Savoury Teochew dishes at a reasonable price. Not so much for entertaining as the restaurant is situated at the basement of an antiquated neighbourhood shopping complex.
Sitting inside shopping centre but is quite & you can enjoy the food in a relax mood. Food is Authentic Teochew food & services is good.
Very authentic Teochew food
Great old schooled teochew dishes and it's reasonably priced as well. A hidden gem in the nearly empty Upper Serangoon Mall.
Although food took a while to be served, they were tasty. I like their braised duck and orh nee!
Always my favourite teochew food! Never tired of the their dishes!
Fantastic food. Food standard has maintained consistently over the years.
Food is generally good but there is only cash payment
Authentic
Good food but lousy service
Steamed pomfret is expensive.
Nice teo chew food
Very good dining experience, fresh food, ancient taste, clean environment, good service, a good choice for friends and family gatherings
Chaozhou cuisine, the restaurant is in the lobby, parking is convenient, the environment is good, and it is good for small gatherings
The food is good! It's my favorite flavor!
Clean environment
