Reviews of Hakata Ikkousha Ramen
Always walked past and finally had a reason to come in. Super regret not eating here earlier. The ramen is pretty damn good! Totally gonna be coming back more often to try other things. The spicy one looks pretty damn good. Prices are reasonable too.
One of my fav ramen place with great service and ramen being served.
This month they have special edition chicken fried rice. Nice!
Tonkutsu ramen is 10/10. Service is amazing, celebrate my birthday with complimentary gyoza as many as my age. The staffs were friendly and welcoming!!
A very decent bowl of Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen, though I expect the soup base should be stronger.
The pan-fried gyoza was served crispy and I like the sliced char siew. Unfortunately, the fried chicken was sold out on the day of visit.
First outlet store was at Bugis+, Ramen champion. Been eating their Ramen since then and love it still! I feel that the Ramen is cater to the Singapore/ Asian standard then we like it more spicy. It is a bit different from the Japan one but I like it that they tweak it more to our taste.
God fire is the best if you love spicy food!
Nov 2020. The ramen was on par with my favourite Ipuddo. A 5-star rating was rare from me. I gave it the fifth one for its generosity.
The broth was collagen-ly rich. The ramen at "very hard" was at the right crunch for me. The hard boiled eggs were free flowing.
The birthday boy/girl would get free gyoza, the number u could order for free - his age.
Wasting food would be a sin, please return this generous gesture by ordering the amount u can finish.
Service was good and fast before peak hours. Normal texture of noodles were a little too soft for my liking, but the flavour of the broth was great! You’ll have to add vegetables yourself for some bowls, but they give free flow hard boiled eggs.
While Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King at Orchid Hotel draws bigger crowds, Hakata Ikkousha Ramen arguably has an impressive pedigree of its own. It originates from Hakata, Fukuoka — the home of internationally renowned ramen chain Ichiran.
Like Tonkotsu King (and the rest of Ramen Keisuke’s empire) nearby, Hakata Ikkousha offers customisation of your ramen on your order form as well as a free flow of hōjicha and hard boiled eggs at the table. In addition, Hakata Ikkousha provides pickled ginger and takana-zuke (spicy pickled mustard leaves) to go with your ramen.
Apart from their flagship tonkotsu ramen, Hakata Ikkousha offers an excellent spicy ramen that they call God Fire which I overheard another diner claim to be able to cure illness. Will bear this in mind the next time flu season comes around.
Update 25 Jun 2021: swung by for their new menu item — Jiro-style dry ramen, with its thick noodles, thick-cut pork belly, mountain of bean sprouts and a heap of chopped garlic. It was heavenly.
the coagulation of oil on the soup was great
In addition to what transpired on my previous edit of this post, i would like to heavily commend the service quality and the flavourful aroma of the tonkutsu ramen. Besides being rich and thick, the noodles were cut to a desireble length and a suitable texture and turgidity. Finally, gyoza served was hot and full of meat; a wonderful myraid of flavours dancing in my mouth like a disco. I would definitely recommend this superb restaurant of excellent staff and scumptious food.
Came here for dinner on a Friday evening. Managed to go in before the dinner crowd came in so I got my order served rather quickly. Tried their standard tonkoutsu ramen and ordered gyoza as a side.
The soup was one of the thicker ones I had in Singapore. Didn't really like how they served the pork, would have preferred char shu like how other places serve them.
Would be going to their Chijmes branch to try their spicy ramen.
Decent food; affordable prices - pretty value for money. Small & cozy restaurant.
Dining time limit of 45 mins, need to q during lunch as space is limited, taste was not bad. They got free gyoza on ur bday for as many as ur age, can try this!
Ramen was affordable and taste great. Shio ramen was not very salty and the Tonkotsu ramen has a unique taste to it. The mentaiko don was also generous with the frezh scoop of mentaiko. Egg were free flow and toppings at the side to add to suit your own taste. The gyoza skin was crispy and the meat was juicy. Furthermore the staff was friendly and food was served fast. The overall ambience was good. Definitely will dine in the near future
Came here on an empty day so the service was lightning fast. Ordered a black tonkotsu with extra charsiew and spring onions. Serving was quite big but the quality was pretty average. Asked for extra hard noodles and light broth but both were abit off. Could just be my own preference. Do try it for yourself.
Amazing service, with the best ramen I've ever tasted in Singapore to date. Free flow of eggs and condiments is a nice bonus!
Been wanting to come here for a while after reading a review. I have high expectation of ramen, having eaten a fair share in Japan, it's hard to find one that's nearly as good in Singapore. When people said this is one of the best, I wanted to find out. Have to say, I'm not disappointed.
We were greeted with a warm, genuine hospitality upon entering. The staff was very friendly and made us feel very welcomed. Everyone was happy and smiling, from serving staff to ramen chef. Quite rare nowdays, honestly. The place is small but have a warm, cozy vibe, like a homely ramen joint in Japan.
We ordered black sauce ramen & bonito ramen. The black sauce ramen was a surprising delight, with dark hue and slight smoky flavor (made me an instant fan). It's rich but mellow at the same time. The broth is a tonkatsu broth (pork bone based), so expect it to be on the rich and thick side. However, I find it to be not as strong or oily as some of the popular chains in Singapore (such as Keisuke or Nagi). It has just the right thickness, consistency, and doesn't put you off after a while. I tend to avoid drinking ramen tonkotsu broth because it always feels too oily and salty for me. Not this one. The flavor blends well, very harmonizing. It's so addictive I ended up drinking the whole thing.
The bonito ramen is a chicken/pork/bonito soup base. It's very nice as well but lack the smokiness and garlicky taste found in the black sauce ramen. I personally prefer the black sauce but this one is nice too.
Don't forget to add takana (some kind of pickles) to your ramen. It makes everything better!
Overall a very nice, enjoyable meal! Price is reasonable (from 13-20sgd. Standard singapore ramen price). This is by no mean as good as the very best in Japan (such as Menya Itto), but it's still pretty damn good. I would say taste-wise it's on par with going to Japan and eating at good, reliable ramen chains, such as Ichiran or Ramen Nagi. It's a hakata style which is native to Fukuoka area. I would say if I crave good ramen in Singapore, this will be a number one place I would go to for my ramen fix. Great service. Great food. What more can you ask?
Was there for a super late lunch at about 3pm. Luckily, service is still on.
Didn't want to eat too heavy to save some space for dinner at 730pm.
Ordered a small cha-shu don and a karaage to share. Ooh, complimentary hard boiled egg is available and served chilled.
Happy with both. Rice was flavourful with simple soy and cha-shu was tasty and tender. Fried chicken was done well and served hot.
Service was efficient.
Ordered the Shio Tonkotsu ramen with gyoza and golden fried rice. All the items were exceptionally tasty. Especially loved the shio broth, that had a delightful peppery aftertaste.
Service wasn’t too bad. Free flow eggs.
Overall, felt like it is not very particular about details. Isn’t cheap.
If you’re a person who likes super thick pork soup, you will like this place.
Normal bowl of ramen. Overpriced. Eggs are not properly seasoned and over cooked.
Noodles are great. Charsiew is quite basic. Soup broth is decent but one dimensional.
Not worth the $16.90 price
Free birthday gyoza! Authentic Japanese ramen! What more do you need? Update 10-May-2022: Visited during lunch hour at noon, no queue, quality maintained! Will be back again.
One of best Tonkotsu Ramen in Singapore. And fried rice here is the best also and my favorite, good to go with red ginger. Serving time also fast.
I was aware that Ikkousha Ramen won Ramen Champion many many many years ago at Bugis+ and tried it a couple of times back in the day and once at its HDB void deck location.
Today was the first time in years I tried it again and honestly, wouldn't recommend this place.
1) Service was non-existent. Eggs were not given to us despite other tables receiving it. I didn't realise it until I saw other tables getting eggs. When we asked for eggs, service staff replied: "Oh, you need eggs?" What kind of question is that? Is the restaurant trying to cut corners by hoping I'd forget about the eggs?
2) Char Shu seems to be an afterthought like in Ichiran Ramen in Japan. Very fatty meat (good), but otherwise lacks any smoky aroma and flavour.
3) I ordered noodles at the default doneness. But they turned out rather stiff as if undercooked. In hindsight, I should have indicated that I prefer softer noodles. That said, the default texture needs to be improved.
Reason 1 was seriously a turn off. Just bad service. I don't need eggs, but I want eggs. Because that's one of the USP of your restaurant. If you want to cut corners, at least do it in a less blatant way.
Complaints aside, the broth and onsen egg are on point, and so are the gyozas with a slightly crispy skin and a soft and juicy inside.
The ramen broth is soulful. Rich pork broth. The egg is perfect and Dumplings were good too. Like the spice preserved vegetable as well.
Great, rich ramen broth accompanied by welcoming staff. This cozy establishment is tucked in a corner of the Tanjong Pagar blocks. Could be busy during rush hour too :)
Best tonkotsu ramen ever, I always come back here for more; the bonito ramen is great! Free flow boiled eggs & water, I love the food here. Personally, I feel that this outlet serves better ramen than their CHIJMES outlet, and there's usually lesser people here too.
I chose light broth ramen, still very tasty with moderate richness, springy noodles. Staff were friendly and attentive.
Went on a Sunday afternoon at 1pm, place was not packed, however, 20 mins later was a full house. Greeted with friendly service especially from Ms Ling who provided excellent service with a smile.
It was my mum's 65th birthday, and they gave 65 free Gyozas provided we order at least 4 ramen bowls. Even asked us how many we would like to have to dine in, and how many frozen ones to take away :)
Overall food wise was pretty decent, pork was pleasant with sufficient fat, noodles were 'kiu kiu', broth was thick, not too salty for the light version.
Toilets available at the location.
This branch at Tanjong Pagar is not that crowded during weekday dinner time. They still have the birthday free gyoza promo so do go their facebook page to see the details.
The ramen was pretty decent, portion size was ok too. will recommend to choose the less salty option.
The gyoza on the other hand is pretty pedestrian the standard. Honestly i won't order it unless its free.
Free hardboil eggs is a plus too.
Those that want to go to this branch there is hdb parking behind.
Very good quality ramen. The soup is excellent and the noodles is perfect.
Enjoy the spicy ramen and gyoza here. You can skip the fried chicken.
The place is usually packed. It is also a good place to eat even when you are just by yourself. Great noodles with rich thick broth. Chilli padi lovers must go for the Fire level 4 ramen as even the level 4 is still not that spicy.
Currently the best ramen shop experience in Singapore. Must try the gyoza. Fair balance of garlic and yuzu flavour. Ramen broth is awesome.
The ramen is good! The soup is thick and the pork is so biggg~ if you come on birthday, got free gyoza depends on your age hahaha. Jio friends come!!
Didn't know that this restaurant existed at Tanjong Pagar Plaza until today! Similar to another Ramen eatery, they had free flow of eggs and Spicy Tanaka. The Tonkotsu soup was rich and the serving of Cha Su was generous! We had 2 other sides - Gyoza and Fried Chicken and they were good as well! The restaurant was spacious and seats between each customer were not squeezy. Thank God we met at 1145, before the lunch crowd came.
The Black Tonkotsu Special is nice! Broth is thick and flavourful with lots of garlic taste to it.
I have been back about 5 times since my first visit in 2018, for the uniquely porky broth of the standard and bonito bowls, and the free spicy tanaka. Long live Ikkousha!
Update 9/11/19 - Tried the fried rice today, which had a good wok hey flavour and moisture balance.
Best ramen in Singapore! It's amazing how the soup base can be so flavourful and umami yet not too salty. Never fails to disappoint.
Good service, free iced water, free flow eggs are bonuses
Loved this place! Ordered the spicy soup with normal noodles. So so good. Plus free flow of boiled eggs and spicy vegetables. What could go wrong. Reasonably priced as well. Highly recommended!
Rich flavourful broth and springy ramen. Try their birthday promo (gyoza qty = age). Very tasty and will be back for more (even without promo)
Ordered a tonkotsu special with additional menma and noodles.
The soup was thick and salty enough, but didn't have enough umami
The chashu was very tender and nice, with little hint of pork stink, but I didn't like their presentation of having the pieces hanging over the edge of the bowl.
The noodles were nice and springy at their normal hardness, but my kaedama had a hard clump in the middle of it.
Black fungus was just as it always is everywhere- crispy but bland. Will ask them to leave it out if I come again.
Menma is my favourite ramen topping, but theirs was a bit bland.
Overall, some good points and some bad. Can try again some time.
Delicious hearty bowl of Hakata ramen! Went for the Tonkotsu special with 4 slices of pork and one Nitamago. Comes with free normal hard boil eggs too!
Aussie Expat Foodie - Legit ramen...tonkatsu broth is meaty and full of flavour. noodles are cooked to your preferenc, nice and chewy. great service. now I understand why they won those awards for their ramen. best I've had in singapore thus far.
Everything was pleasant until it was time to pay. I think the management should consider practicing flexibility when it comes to payment.
A senior male service staff attended to me when I wanted to make payment.
I tried to make my payment through paynow but the reception at your restaurant was not working well, I was then informed to connect to your wifi, which is not helping either. I told your staff to just charge me $20 in order to make it for the minimum paynow requirement of $20 but he insisted THRICE that I order something from the menu to make it over $20. I did not want to order anything extra and nicely asked if I can just pay extra 60 cents to qualify for the $20 but this staff kept asking me to order extra from the menu (it was lunch time rush hour btw).
Until I asked to speak to a manager then he told me that he will make a one time exception for me to use paywave to make my payment of $19.40. Really? I too come from the service industry but to have experience this kind of inflexibility is really a "one time exception" from my end.
Ramen review:
My top pick for ramen in Singapore!
The tonkotsu broth is thick and savoury, with an amazing aftertaste that keeps you mouth watering even after finishing the bowl.
The ramen has customizable thickness to suit personal preferences. My choice is slightly hard, allowing for the bouncy bite yet still allowing the broth to soak in.
The chashu is great, with just the right texture and taste. Always choose to get more of it :)
On top of all this, there are bonus marks for free kaedama (noodle refill), the awesome ajitama, birthday gyoza deal, it's just an amazing experience to be had!
What I like about here is the piping hot ramen unlike some other joints. The cha shu is thin and tender. Had the sho-yu ramen and it was good! Got my free birthday gyozas as well! They were wonderful. Skin is thin and the filling is fluffy light mix of pork, garlic and chives. The side pickles on the table are also a must try.
During our one week trip to Singapore, we dined at Ikkousha twice as the ramen was delicious and service was excellent. Especially the staff member, Thomas, who was evidently hard working and extremely friendly during both of our visits. Both times dining here was thoroughly enjoyable thanks to Thomas’ great attitude and service and I hope that he gets the recognition for his exceptional kindness and demeanour. 5 stars for Thomas and delicious Ikkousha!
Great bowl of ramen with friendly staff.
Their garlic fried rice was fantastic! Yumz
Small place with only a few tables. Staff were friendly and helpful. Best of all, they really give you the corresponding number of gyozas for your birthday!!!
The ramen here is delicious and served with free flow of eggs.
One of the best Ramen restaurant that I went. The broth is just right when you chose 'light'. However, if you prefer a more enriched broth base, select 'Normal' will. The bamboo shoot is crunchy which is my favourite topping for the Ramen. Other than that, the staff are friendly and are willing to assist customers when they needed aid. Would definitely visit again.
Certainly one of the best ramens I have tried over the years.
Decided to try as it was one of the few ramen joints open over cny. Their broth is great, thick and flavorful without the overwhelming saltiness you usually get from ramen. Appreciate that the noodles were specifically matched to each broth type. We tried both the tonkutsu and bonito ramen.
One minor letdown is the service, or lack thereof. It was a straightforward manner of getting seated, handing in order chits, getting served and paying. The servers are almost robotic. Wish there was more interaction in between for a more homely and welcoming experience that will keep us coming back. i.e recommending what’s on the menu, or checking if the food is okay.
Ramen was decent and cooked exactly to your preference.
I brought an elderly person to celebrate their birthday, and they have more specific requests. However, the server by witress Ling, provided us with attentive service. We appreciate your dedicated service and thoughtfulness. I will definitely recommend my friends to come here.
I visit this ramen join often. As ramen served is still hot unlike other joints. Due to covid business has been badly hit, unlimited spicy takana and eggs became limited. But the taste is still good, gyōza dipping sauce is something different than the norm.
Food is consistently well-executed. Not spectacular but you can trust that you'll always get a reasonably solid bowl of ramen
Service had been good... until today, where staff were puzzling over how to process the payment. First the entry was right, but then voided, then redone but missed an item, then the credit card machine didn't work...
Just slightly frustrating that something so routine could have gone so wrong. They might need to work on training their staff...
Good ramen at ok prices. We have tried up to God level 2 spicy ramen and it's still very tasty and flavorful.
Mostly serves pork but has other options too.
Seating is a little cramped and tables are kinda small too but so are most of the Japanese restaurants anyway.
Went there to take advantage of their birthday gyoza promotion. Ordered the special ramen for myself, and most of my table had the same. The ramen was a solid offering. The noodles was nice and chewy, and served in thick unctuous pork broth with thick umami flavour. The large pieces of pork chasu meat were soft and tear apart easily, but I probably would prefer something fattier. The egg looked plain on the outside, but delivered a lot of flavour, and the yolk was soft and oozy without flaw. I thought that free gyoza would be subpar, but I was totally wrong. The gyoza was a bit on the small size, but that made them perfectly bite sized. The skin was thin and the pork filling was well seasoned and smelled heavenly. The surprise was the small serving of chilli on the side. It was not too spicy and had an amazing citrusy kick to it. Should have asked for more of it. I would definitely just go back for the gyoza.
If you like flavourful pork broth this is the place to go.
The rather unique thing about Ikkousha's Ramen are the bubbles. Apparently, the bubbles in the bowl are intended to give the impression of a well-simmered stock. Mine came out looking like bowl of frothy cappuccino, and it takes a while to get used to.
Like Tonkotsu King across the road, Ikkousha provides free flow boiled eggs, instead of bean sprouts, they provide spicy pickles.
Taking a slurp of the soup, you will be taken back to the water-front yatais in Hakata. The tonkotsu is more gamey flavoured, in a good way. Noodles are thin, in the good Hakata way too.
Please remember to order the gyozas. They are probably the best around, thanks to the Aka Kosho paste that comes with the gyozas. You can try them in different ways: neat, with the gyoza sauce, with the Kosho, with gyoza sauce AND Kosho...
Great hakata style ramen and option to choose doneness of noodles is always a plus for me. They offer birthday promotion as well with free gyozas based on your age (all you need to do is present your IC)
Excellent ramen broth and top-notch gyoza. Staff are courteous n helpful. Take away orders are accurately perfect with labelling . Thank you for a wonderful take away birthday dinner. Will be back for a Dine-in experience after 18 Aug
Hi Hakata Ikkousha at Tanjong Pagar, as promised Im back with 3 other friends. Lovely Dine-in experience on 4th March 2022. Everything is as good as before. Server Jennifer was attentive enough to notice a box of cake even though it was in a plastic carrier and she automatically asked for it to be put in their chiller. That was Going d Extra Mile ( GEM ) . Awesome . Management please compliment her on my behalf. Thanks for making our day . I WILL BE BACK :)
excellent ramen, and sensational gyoza.
Can't compare to the giants of the ramen scene in Singapore. Normal texture noodles are a bit hard, soup is too salty and meat portions feel too lean and thin
Big portion with free flow hardboiled eggs. Soup is good.
Great ramen with a nice thick pork bone broth that was really tasty. The gyoza and fried rice is also very tasty.
Very average. You can find a lot of better options in this area.
Love hakata style ramen. Their special ramen portion is quite big for normal eater.
Good hakata style ramen. Definitely order the gyoza.
Most authentic JP ramen in SG
It's rare to eat such delicious ramen😋The noodles are cooked just right, the soup base is rich and mellow, and the meat is very tender. I gave birthday dumplings. I gave a few dumplings depending on my age. I gave a big plate😃Thank you boss🌹The chili sauce is seasoned with grapefruit, it’s so special👍👍👍
The most delicious Hakata ramen in Singapore🤤
The soup is the most authentic Japanese tonkotsu ramen I have ever eaten in Singapore. You can choose soft or hard ramen just like in Japan, and the price is about the same as other ramen shops. Recommended to anyone who loves ramen in Singapore.
The ramen shop hidden downstairs in the HDB flat. When I first visited, I ordered the signature special tonkotsu ramen in a light flavor. The thick tonkotsu soup can taste rich in layers even in the light version. It has a very Hakata-style ramen flavor. , the slight spiciness subtly dilutes the greasy texture that is easy to develop after eating. I chose the average noodles. If you have no special preference for noodles, the texture is just right and not too soft. For those with larger appetites, Customers can choose 1.5 portions for free without any additional price, which is quite sincere. The special signature ramen comes with four large slices of pork. The thickness is just right. It is not sticky, tender and does not stick to your teeth. The pork slices in the ramen are the best. Quite a good performance. By the way, the hard-boiled eggs on the table are fully cooked and can be eaten for free.
I had eaten at the Fukuoka Main Store before and missed the rich soup stock.
Never miss a drop of the oily soup base.
This branch did not disappoint, and the taste still retains its eternal characteristics.
But I was dissatisfied that the eggs were too soft and too difficult to shell!
I love my senpai and my stomach, we go to a ramen shop🚶
You'll get the same quality and taste that you get in Japan! ! !
The inside of the store was clean and I felt comfortable!
I think it's one of the stores you can visit when you're traveling 😁
