Hoàng Hâu: A Hidden Gem of Authentic Vietnamese Flavors
Rating:
• Food: 4.5/5 (Delicious and authentic Vietnamese cuisine with generous portions)
• Atmosphere: 4/5 (Cozy and inviting, with a homey feel)
• Service: 5/5 (Warm and welcoming, with exceptional service from the Lady Boss)
Overall: 4.5/5
Alright folks, Donkey and I were recently invited to lunch at Hoàng Hâu by our friends, and we were pleasantly surprised! This restaurant is tucked away below a HDB block, but it definitely lives up to its high Google rating. The cozy atmosphere instantly made us feel at home, with its simple décor. It felt like stepping into a friendly neighborhood eatery.
We ordered a few of their famous dishes, as recommended by the Lady Boss, and of course, some Vietnamese coffee. The coffee was absolutely incredible! It had such a strong aroma, even without sugar or milk. It was a truly unique and flavorful coffee that we haven't experienced anywhere else. We also loved their Vietnamese porridge, which was incredibly flavorful and comforting. All of the dishes we tried were delicious, and the sauces were really nice. The Lady Boss was incredibly kind and helpful, coming to our table to confirm our order and ask how we liked our drinks and food. The best part? All the dishes were authentic Vietnamese food, and the portions were very generous.
Hoàng Hâu is a very humble little store, but it's cozy and inviting. We highly recommend checking it out if you're looking for a taste of authentic Vietnamese cuisine.
Good hidden Vietnamese food right opposite SGH! The beef pho had a nice thick broth and a good mix of sliced beef, beef slices and beef balls. Would recommend giving the Vietnamese pizza a try - a fun mix of egg and minced pork. Staff was really friendly too!
Been visiting this since my Uni days, love the unique viet dishes that are not served in the more Vietnamese popular places like long phung such as viet pizza and the eel porridge. The eel porridge especially is something not as common in Vietnam (according to my viet wife). Staff are friendly and cost is worth the quality it brings along. If you are in the west or on a coffee run to roundboy, drop by here for a visit and you will not regret it
Extremely friendly service, absolutely delicious food and great value. The Vietnamese pancake, pork bun cha, spring rolls and prawn crackers are all great options-and the eel porridge is delish (but too much for two people alone).
I had the beef pho set during lunch. The prawn paste chicken that came along with the set was extremely fragrant and crispy without being "jelak". The beef broth is full of flavour and the meat balls and slices were generous too. We had the lemongrass drink that complimented the set lunch very nicely. Ambient was very cozy and comfortable. Will definitely return for the lunch deals again.
Wanted to try the eel porridge but it wasn’t available. The other items tasted OK but not so impressive to make me want to visit again. Overall, very value for money. The prices were reasonable and the portions were huge, especially so for the mixed beef pho. The fresh spring rolls contained so much vermicelli that they were more a meal than a snack. Coffee was rather weak. Staff were friendly. Ambience was so so but it was good that Vietnamese music was played in the background. There were both indoor and outdoor seatings.
I came here after seeing the recommendations about the food.
Great food!!! And fast service
Cannot recommend enough of their spring rolls (both the fresh and fried ones are nice)
And I love the eel porridge (and yes it’s the Chinese 黄鳝 style)
Buncha is nice and they also give enough greens (which is rare in Singapore)
Will come back again if we are nearby !!!!
Small but cosy Vietnamese restaurant that offers outdoor seating along the common corridor. Generous hearty portions. My favourite is the fresh spring rolls - translucent rolls stuffed with prawns, pork, vermicelli and greens with an accompanying chilli dip. Do try the eel porridge too.
Food was good. Generous portion too. Personally prefer the pho to bun cha... Staff was friendly too.
Had mixed beef Pho, sliced beef Pho and Beef Stew. The beef Pho soup is delicious with herbs and beef flavour that will please you. The meat is very tender. Highly recommend you try the Pho beef.
However, the Beef Stew is another story. The meat is too hard and we can't finish the dish.
The condiments on the table only has black sauce, red chilli sauce and soya sauce. There's no fresh chillies, chillies oil or lime which is a minus point for me.
The staff is friendly and service is quite fast. You can ask them for fresh chillies. When I visited they just open for dinner time, maybe that's the reason why I need to wait for quite a while before the food was served even though we're the only table in the restaurant.
There's indoor with AC and outdoor dine in.
Heard they're popular for the eel porridge so maybe 1 day I'll come back and try.
Went there for lunch today, indoor seating was full so halfway thru we got transferred indoors, so great service there. Food is also a hit, we had the mixed beef pho, crispy spring roll, pork bun cha and bahn mi. Pho is great, soup has depth of flavor and beef tendon and meat is tender and flavorful. Bahn mi is wonderfully fresh. Bun cha is very nice. The only slight miss is the spring roll being not crispy enough. Overall a delicious meal and I would go back again for sure!
Pork bun cha had good flavours and was authentic. Beef stew rice was just alright, and the fresh spring rolls were a bit too dry. Found the lemongrass chicken damn good and they were quite gigantic as well. I wld come back! Staff v friendly! Cost friendly too!
Tasty Vietnamese cuisine! Staff was accommodating when we arrived almost their closing time. Fantastic food!
Amazing eel porridge and bun cha! The ambiance is lovely and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. The portions are extremely generous and the food very reasonably priced. I 100% recommend coming here for your Vietnamese fix! 🤩
this is the closest to Vietnam one can get. Love the food and friendly staffs.
Let the photos do the talking...
Oh and I heard they have an upcoming local made gin rum vodka wine etc...
Confirm u won't be #umbrage
Very good value lunch set. Surprisingly good but service can be slow during peak hour.
Eel porridge! I was skeptical, but heard this was the dish to order... it's way too much for one person to eat, especially since I ordered a few spring rolls to start. But it is absolutely delicious.
Dishes not your typical Vietnamese noodle house. Worth a try. Pork cha bun is nice. C
Drip coffee is very aromatic and flavourful even without the mixing the condensed milk.
Finally visited Hoang Hau after reading about it in food blogs. The Eel Porridge Chao Luon ($18.80) is flavourful and comes with generous pieces of eel. Portion is good for sharing between 2 pax. The Pork Meatball Banh Mi ($10.80) was great too. Meat is well-marinated and juicy 👌
Will be back to try the other stuff on their menu!
Really authentic Viet cuisine. Could be the most expensive porridge eaten but worth every cent. Lotsa eels in the porridge and very tasty. The beef pho is amazingly refreshing and a lot of meats. Worth the trip! 👍🏻
Friendly staff, delicious pho! Very authentic Vietnamese food. They provide free bean sprout some more! I enjoy the eating experience here. 😍😍👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Nice small little place at the quiet housing estate just beside jalan Bukit merah!
Food is nice n service is excellent
We reached the restaurant at 7:30pm, didn't realized that they will be closing at 8pm. But the staff still serve us our orders happily and even offer the pork spring roll for free! The pho is hot and delicious, the soup is sweet but adding lime enhances the taste. I felt that the beef goes well with basil leaves, it helps to clean the palate so that you can enjoy the other meat in the pho. All the meat in the pho is tender and soft. They also have freshwater eel porridge which I have yet to try....
Super delicious food, super friendly and accommodating 老板娘 who cut the noodles + chicken slices (pho) so thinly so my bro could eat w his new braces on! Love it
Great food with generous portion. Staff was really friendly and their food recommendation was spot on. Price is a bit higher some other vietnamese restaurants but quality of the food is definitely worth it.
Authentic Vietnamese food, & Excellent customer service ! Taste and smells good 😋
Tried the pho and pork bun cha. Pho broth was nice and the beef slices were tender and good! Pork bun Cha is okay as the pork were bit dry. Fried spring roll was good! Service was on point too.
Best Vietnamese food I've ever had! Service is good & prices are decent too! Got the beef pho & the broth was amazing! Loved the ambiance too, it's rather cozy :')
One of the best, hole in the wall, Vietnamese food places in Singapore! Charming little cafe. We had the bun cha, beef pho and interesting rice paper pizza. Would highly recommend :)
my to-go pho joint. their chicken pho is great, and my friends enjoy their beef pho.
their fried spring rolls are amazing.
go for their lunch sets - but do call ahead to let them know if you have a larger group.
Food was good, service was good. Great place to chill with friends. Definitely recommend. Overall GEM LA.
Cosy neighbourhood pho joint run by a Vietnamese family who cook the classics such as pho. The service decent and friendly too. 😋
This is the best Vietnamese restaurant I have eaten.
Super delicious food and drinks.
Reasonable Price !
try their eel porridge and pizza! the pho and buncha is very good too
excellent pho!
fabulous service hoang hau. keep up the good service and work
Bun Cha was good value with a drink and spring rolls. Food was above average with generous portions. Nothing to shout about but a decent spot to get your Vietnamese fix if you're in the SGH area.
The eel porridge here was amazing! The portion was sufficient for 2. Worth the trip!
Lovely Vietnamese Food. Really authentic flavours.
Food is great, very value for money. Generous servings.
Cosy corner with delicious and reasonably priced Vietnamese food. Definitely will come again.
Had a lovely satisfying dinner last night with my family. The shaking beef was amazing! The fried spring rolls were delicious and piping hot! Will be back for the other dishes! Excellent service too!
Great discovery in the neighbourhood, thank you for the good food:)
Passed by this restaurant near my place a couple of times, but only got to try the food tonight.
My husband and I ordered a beef Phở and Bún chả. They were really really good. Especially, the Bún chả, the spring roll was crispy. They have 2 choices, either pork and chicken. I ordered the pork one, the stir-fried sliced bacons taste awesome, tender and deeply fragrance (入味). Meat came with a sweet and sour sauce, served in a bowl, which you can either dip the noodles in or just pour it over your dish.
Many places I been to serve lukewarm lemongrass drink to me, but not here. It was hot, and It makes me a very happy woman. 😊
Price wise are not the hawker centre range, it's still a restaurant despite it's HDB estate location, but I feel the food are value for money.
Highly recommend this place.
Very sincere service and good food!
Nice cozy ambience.
Ordered takeaway eel porridge, mixed pho and vietnamese pizza. Not a single miss. The porridge was a generous serving filled with lots of meat. The soup base of the pho was flavourful. The pizza.. oh my. Will definitely come back again. All you readers please try it! 😃
Beef phor is delicious and yummy. Broth is rich and well blended with aromatics. Definitely will come again.
Bánh Xèo (crepe), version here is tasty! Ample ingredients, crunchy skin, lots side fresh veg.. With gst $10.50 suppose its reasonable priced
Unique Vietnamese food, high quality with generous portions - super value for money! The owners are very friendly and treat customers really well 😃 the restaurant was clean and cosy too!
Had the beef stew set and pork bun cha set. Very flavourful! Definitely worth it to visit
Delightful food. Generous portions. Beautiful flavors. Pho, wrap and beef stew - all amazing to the last bite! We will be back!
This place is a gem if you want to try authentic Vietnamese food. The Eel porridge(cháo lươn) is a must try. The staff is also super friendly.
Pork bun cha , fried spring roll and lemongrass drink is good. Good food at good price.
Got to try the pho here, very good broth, the rolls were good too! Definitely coming back to try the other dishes :)
This place is such a gem. Everything is great here, one of the best Vietnamese restaurant I have been to!
They are worth trying! So dont hesitate if you are a porridge lover. I would say the price not too high nor cheap.
Wonderful Vietnamese food, authentic snd delicious. Excellent service too. Highly recommended!

Cozy little place. Nice ambience. Food was tasty, and served quickly. Good sized portions. Would return if in the area.
