Reviews of Jalan Tua Kong Lau Lim
Surprisingly good and easily one of the best fishball noodles I have ever had. Trust me when I say that, as I am very stringent in the quality of this favourite hawker food of mine. Unfortunately, I do find the prices a little too steep, with a small bowl of noodles costing as much as $6. However, I could be forgiving, noting how fresh the ingredients were and how much I enjoyed the noodles.
Been my favourite go to noodle place for many years. My only issue is the wait time during peak periods. Other than that, the taste is great and unique. My favourite mee Kia texture is from this place as well: springy and bouncy. Overall will highly recommend especially if you're in the area.
I came here after seeing the notice at their Tanjong Katong branch that they are now opened (or more accurately reopened as they were at a shop unit just a stone’s throw away) at Simpang Bedok. The mee pok, toast, egg and coffee in a set is about $10 - but the satisfaction really goes way beyond. The wait for the noodle was about an hour on a Saturday morning - which is quite okay given the pleasant environment.
Score is for the coffee (kopiO) and kaya toast. The kopi was pleasant, and the kaya toast an unexpected thumbs up as it was closest to Yakun Kaya style - crustless, crispy and tasty. Price was, of course, cheaper than Toastbox and Yakun. Pleasant in the early morning, and opens at 7 am (bonus points!)
Ordered the signature for $6. Small serving. Distinct saltiness in my bowl of noodle.
Newly opened and it's simply good. The taste is as good as before. $5.50 for a bowl of mee pok. In addition they have the Kaya toast as well. Great place for breakfast and lunch.
The shop relocated to the second floor. Waiting time for the food was about 35 mins. It used to be very nice but now the taste was average. Not worth the long wait.
Didn't know they have moved to level 2 of the hawker centre. Came here for breakfast, the noodle was good as usual but the place was too hot literally having breakfast under the sun , looks like will have to give this place a miss .
Came for my mee pok hit. Store moved from ground floor unit opposite to the current location. Had small dry mee pok. Good competent mee pok noodles.
Tried the new outlet at Bedok food market on level 2, and it isn’t good as their outlet in Simpang Bedok. Go to the original outlet instead, the flavouring of the noodles is better.
Pros:
+ Despite being a little pricier, the quality of food is justified
+ Generous amount of pork lard and noodles are not too spicy and oily
+ The unassuming clear soup is flavourful
+ One of the best Mee Pok in the East
+ Kaya Toast is one of best toasts outside of Ya Kun with soft butter on the kaya~
Cons:
- The prawns provided for the 中or大portion is questionable
- Waiting time tends to reach 30-40 mins on average during peak hours
Other Observations:
The Art of Mee Pok was formerly located on ground level at 306 Bedok Road
Highly recommended !!!
