Great place with amazing ambiance! The food was really good and reasonably priced. The staff were also super helpful and friendly. I especially loved how the chawanmushi was served hot, and the overall aesthetic was fantastic!

A small and cosy Izakaya place. Good food and reasonable prices. Wide selection of alcoholic drinks at promo prices. Service was prompt and polite. Food was served fast! Recommended!

Ordered a don to share and top up $5 for salmon and swordfish sashimi. Don was quite a generous portion to share between 2 pax. Sashimi slices were fresh and thick. Kushiyaki could be better. We thought that the liver were overcooked which left too much of powdery texture on taste bud.

Fantastic experience at Kaen as usual. Quality of their food is high and fresh (Mental Aburi Salmon, Pitan Tofu and Tako Wasa are pictured, but I have tried their other dishes and they are consistently good). The setup is cosy and service is fantastic. They are kid friendly too. Overall, a very very decent place for Japanese food with a little fusion twist.

Visited this quaint cozy place on a Sunday evening for a light izakaya dinner. Had the cute salmon and unagi mini dons, suitable for ladies with small appetite. The side dishes and skewers were fairly good and reasonably priced too. The restaurant has promotion whereby for every 3 skewers ordered per pax, one can order one bottle of beer for $3. Promotion is limited for two hours from the time the skewers and beer is ordered.

The food was excellent! The small bowl portions are perfect for sharing with a group. The skewers and sashimi are a must-try! Will visit again!

Impressed by the ambience of the place. The service is top notch. Jeremy has prepared a really delightful birthday surprise dessert for my birthday! Love the ice cream! The food is delicious especially the Salmon Avocado Don, Chawanmushi, Mentaiko Fries and Ebi Gyoza. Very fresh Sashimi too. Great selection of alcohol. This is my new favourite Japanese restaurant!

The salmon mentaiko don is absolutely delicious, and you can request the salmon to be fully cooked if you prefer not to eat it raw. The 20% lunch promotion makes it even better, and the set includes miso soup and salad. Highly recommended!

Ordered their beef donburi and three sticks of Japanese bbq. The waiting time was rather long (25mins) considering there's not a lot of people there besides me. Beef Donburi was lacking on texture as the beef is a bit overcooked. I'll say the tastyness is on par vs. Sukiya. The Japanese bbq on sticks was done beautifully with chicken cooked to perfection - tender, juicy, and with a little bit of char on the outside. They put lemon instead of lime in my Corona, but for me it doesn't really affect the taste.

Had the mentako salmon don. Was yummy, delicious, tender and soft. The atmosphere was quiet. There are booths as well for 4 persons. Loved the totoro as it was the reason that caught us eye and then for us visiting.

Checked out Kaen on a weekday. We were the first customers for the evening. The staff's service is ok, not as friendly as we had read from the reviews. The food was delicious. Portions were good and the kushiyaki were grilled to perfection, especially the broccoli. There was no burnt taste even though quite a few parts were blackish. The whole place was clean and the furniture was well-maintained. The only gripe was the lighting. All the pics taken turned out with an ugly purple tint. >_<

Very quaint and cute Japanese eatery in the boon keng to Jalan besar neighborhood. Sashimi is fresh and food is generally good. Love their decor, makes me feel like I’m in mini Japan.

Already passed by at this eatery since last year. Went to dine-in during one of the raining day night. Ordered for the mixtures of yakitori. And had salmon sashimi. Thks to the one of the staff whom i call her as auntie. That missing 1 yakitori - broccoli. She was nice to fullfil it. At the same time, she also asking me to come back again for their complimentary side dish. The yakitori was nice only for the chicken meat & inner organs. Cos the pork & bacon had over grilled it. The pork meat was tough to chew. Nevertheless, the chicken organs I seldom eat it. It must be well cooked without the smell & metal taste. Luckily the grilling of it was just nice & tasty with its sauce 😋

The restaurant is easily recognisable by the large Totoro at the entrance. This place is seriously underrated, possibly because of its location. Very nice place. We got the chicken heart, unagi, gyu don and some other sticks. They were all very nice and tasty. The meats such as the chicken heart or bacon were not hard or dry, and the sauce and chili that came with them were good. The brocoli was really nice as well, with a light crispy outside and soft inside. The food took a while to come, but it was worth the wait. Internal decor is very pleasing. Not overstimulating like some other places, a bit more minimalist in style. The ceiling is painted a nice red. I also appreciate that the music is not overwhelming. In fact, some people may not even notice it's there.
