Reviews of Kokoyo Nyonya Delights
A cozy spot for simple, home-cooked food in the heartlands. We ordered the fried chicken nasi lemak, and the chicken thigh (bone-in) was tender, flavorful, and perfectly fried. The rendang nasi lemak was just as enjoyable, it was soft and tender though we would have loved bigger pieces of meat.
Both dishes came with the classic sides: a hard-boiled egg, sambal, and crispy ikan bilis with peanuts. We also added a portion of sambal sotong, which was well-seasoned and cooked just right, keeping a nice texture.
The kueh selection was also satisfying, with a good variety and quality comparable to what you’d find at a reputable kueh stall.
I recently visited Kokoyo Nyonya Delights at Serangoon Central and was impressed by their fantastic selection of Nyonya dishes. The flavors were authentic, and each dish was a delightful representation of traditional cuisine.
However, I must mention that we waited an astonishing 40 minutes for our takeaway order in the hot and humid Singapore weather. While the food was pretty normal, the long wait was a bit frustrating and felt unjustified, especially during a less busy time.
Overall, I would highly recommend Kokoyo for their delicious Nyonya offerings, but just be prepared for a potentially lengthy wait!
Located at an easily accessible location, at the Serangoon Central. First saw this recommendation from 8days and the peranankan food loving soul in me, just had to try this . They have a pretty limited menu with 3 different types of nasi lemak. I actually thought they would have more traditional peranankan dishes but no. I was gonna say where is my Ayam buah keluak. My guest and I had the same beef rendang nasi lemak set. I find the rendang rempah not as flavourful as compared to others I have tried. Rendang is known to be quite a heavy dish and I would say the beef was tender and cooked well and through. However, it lack that spiciness level which I expected from a curry dish . I hope they change that menu often enough.
It's a place where I can see traditional nonya dishes being passed down to a younger generation. I ordered the Signature Nasi Lemak. The portion of the Chicken Drumstick was huge at first sight. I thought a small eater like me could not finish it, but I was wrong! It tastes so good that I ate it all. In my opinion, the chicken was done so well that there were juices when you bite, the bones are white and clean, the kitchen staff must have done their work so well before they present their food on the table. The combination of the whole plate is impressive and impeccable! Appreciate young chefs and hope they continue to preserve the traditions! The service staff were friendly and homely. Daddy Boss is a super friendly person you will see in the shop. Come by and try it! Though it is a non-aircon place, surely it's the food, the people and the hearts that count! ;)
Nasi Lemak
- nasi definitely taste different from typical nasi lemak, it has a tiny fragrance but less lemak, you do not feel sinful after eating it,
- sambal chilli that comes with egg. Not overly sweet, which is good. Would prefer it to be more spicy
- chicken is decent tender, which is good as there are places make drums and thigh meat tough which is a crime. The spice rub on the chicken is amazing and it has a good crunch with the skin.
- I wish the cucumber could have been achar, then I believe this will be perfect.
Stomach soup
- very peppery heart-warming soup. Nothing Nonya about it. Decent I would say. But I feel it's out of place in the menu. Might as well go full scale Nonya dishes.
Overall it's decent Nasi Lemak, if I am happen to be nearby, would definitely eat it.
But is it amazing to a point I have to travel there. Not really.
It is not typical nasi lemak with heavy coconut fragrance if you looking for that.
It is just in its own realm.
Nex shopping mall is the only place that I go at Serangoon. So, I lost my way while trying to find Kokoyo in the Serangoon hood. 😅

✅The menu is on the pricey side for a non air conditioned eatery with limited seats. Most of the tables are placed outside at the walkway.
✳️You will need to add $1 for the noodles when you order a Teochew fish soup ($9.80)
❇️The fish soup comes with bitter gourd, fried and sliced fish with lots of pepper over it. The soup is on the saltier side so if you love flavourful soup, this is a must-order at Kokoyo.
I went back to try the Babi Pongteh (overly salty), Pig Stomach Soup (gosh, there was a smelly taste) and Beef Redang (not tender). This was my second and would be my last time visiting Kokoyo. The price is too steep for the mediocre standard of food. The portion is miserable too.

Relaxing, breezy eatery at a corner of Serangoon Central with young and enthusiastic staff. Portions are huge! My Nasi Lemak Inchi Kabing came with such a large chicken leg—the meat was fresh and lightly spiced too. Food, on the whole, was great too. Not too spicy and rich and several dishes had unique touches. For example, the sambal sotong was a mix of crispy and soft bits. A friend felt the Teochew fish soup tasted different from any she tried before, and she liked it.
Kueh counter was very popular. Passer-bys were continuously buying from it throughout my dinner. I tried the Kueh Kosui and thought it had just the right touch of sweetness and fragrance.
Definitely a 5 star.
Having married a Nonya and having been exposed to Nonya foods for years, i wont claim to be an expert, but i dare say i know what good, legit nonya foods are supposed to taste like.
This place is awesome. So much more authentic and tasty as compared to some of those fancy nonya places in some malls these days.
The nasi lemak is a must try, and remember the kueh kuehs, its a must!
Definitely bookmarking and will return.
Keep up the good work Team Kokoyo!!!
Great spread of Peranakan! Nasi lemak are diverse from beef rendang to sambal sotong. Pig stomach soup too! And fried hard boiled egg w sambal. Love the sambal w lots of onions. It’s got a tangy finish that’s spicy instead of super sweet (yay! for a change). Rice was tasty and lemak, chicken was tasty (though the uncles eating there can’t take the slightly red meats), sotong was funny as it’s fried calamari w sambal (nice change up!) and most of all beef rendang tender as heck w a lemak rendang sauce. Took away the Babi Pongteh, never got a whiff by the time I got home as the 14 year old inhaled it w rice! (Rare!)
Get a “table” and put your order down. Only annoying ppl w bags hoarding chairs at a HDB type shop. Service is as good as it gets.
Will be back for the rest of the dishes.
Very promising new-generation Nyonya food spot in Serangoon Central! Kokoyo is preserving their grandma's authentic Peranakan recipes, and it's a true taste of heritage. Tried their Babi Pongteh, Curry Chicken, and Nasi Lemak with Inchi Kabin – all delicious, but the Babi Pongteh is a must-order. It’s like a blast from the past with rich, comforting Peranakan flavors. Highly recommend for anyone looking to experience traditional tastes in a fresh, welcoming setting!
Wah i was 3rd in line even though i got there at 5.25pm. The first two were repeat customers and several aunties dropped in to take away kueh. My take away was Fish Soup (it wasn’t the milky broth but it sure was tasty and smelt heavenly), the sotong nasi lemak (would taste better if it wasnt over-fried but the sambal was superb and the rice was cooked just right) and the har cheong kai (omg the home made onion chutney is totally addictive). The kueh were tender with just the right hint of saltiness and sweetness. Yes, I plan to be a repeat customer too.
oh. the satay has been taken off the menu. was told to look forward to updates in a few weeks time… some noodle dish?
A hidden jem that serves wholesome nonya cuisine. Every dish was delicious. Kuehs made by Erwin's mom are not too sweet. Perfect at the end of the meal. Everyone is so nice here. Do come early, some of their dishes were not available when we got here at 7.
Came down to try since I saw them in the news. Pretty easy to access, around 5mins walk from serangoon mrt only.
Tried their Inchi kabin nasi lemak, its really nice!!! Loved the chicken marination and their fragrant n fluffy nasi lemak. Esp their sambal egg, its heavenly!! I don’t think I had this kind of egg anywhere else.
The staff are all very friendly and accommodating, loved seeing how the family members all come down to help with the business. 🥹❤️
Not in photo, but I had their kopi peng and their kuehs too, love it!! 😝 overall i had very nice experience! Would definitely come back again.
PSA: Bring your grandparent for a 20% discount till 15 Oct 2024!
Came to try after reading the news articles. So cute watching the whole family help out in the eatery. Food is good, even better after the 20% grandma discount. Every table had an ahma or ahgong. Hope they continue this promo - good for tummies and for bonding families!
We tried the beef rendang nasi lemak, pig stomach soup, and fish soup. Wish there were more fish pieces… Note that you have to order rice separately for the soups, but one of the uncles was so nice to give us a plate of rice for free.
Rainbow kueh was so so, but the other kuehs we tried - ondeh ondeh, kueh salat - were good.
Come help a fella and his fam out!
Food is quite good, though pricey for a HDB coffee shop.
The inchikabin is just plain fried chicken. Not marinaded with enough spices. Spicy Wife’s Ayam berempah is cheaper, bigger and better.
The beef rendang was good. Sambal egg very good.
But the ordering system, queue management is very poor. The young chap at the cash register keeps saying it’s a kopitiam style. He is obviously very stressed and unable to manage.
Their system of Get a table, then order is not working. We are not paying kopitiam prices, there are not enough tables and chairs. They need to improve this quickly before people get turned off. After ordering, still takes about 30 m for food to be served.
The nasi lemak MUST try. Rice very fragrant. The meat so juicy like my girlfriend. 5/5 star. Fish soup very strong peanut taste, if you don’t like peanut better don’t order if not like my gf make me drink finish.
Visited a few times but did not manage to sit down and order their food, only tabao-ed their kuehs. Tried a variety and my favourites were the white ondeh (peanut filling; green was coconut filling and purple was yam filling- all had soft, bouncy skin and ample filling but coconut and yam are not my personal preference) and the kueh kosui (not too sweet, texture was melty, really sweee). Will be back to try their nasi lemak onsite (had a whiff when they were prepping, smells delicious!).
Came here to get some nonya Kueh following a gf's strong recommendation. Senior uncle who managed the Kueh table was very friendly and cheery, dishing out storage advice (not in fridge but out at counter top for max one day) and recommending which one are the best sellers. I bot four (2 ondeh, coconut & peanut) and two other Kueh (see pic) and my family members loved them and asked why I didn't get more... 😅 Will be heading back to get more soon! (Coffeeshop was quite warm but a healthy crowd was there for lunch)
Great food, old school style nasi lemak, rice is fragrant, chicken is good. Soup is more on the peppery side maybe subjective to personal taste, if one like a strong peppery taste you will enjoy . Overall a very nice experience, if you love kueh you will enjoy the variety of kueh they have.
New shop in the neighborhood.
Currently having their soft launch.
Those who like peppery pig stomach soup, this is the best place to visit.
Their meat ball is tender, and I will say the best I've eaten so far.
Was keen to try the nonya kueh and went down on a Saturday around noon to grab some. At $12 for 10 pcs, it works out to $1.20 per pc which is very good value for the quality you get. Bought 7 different types - all very good but my personal favs were the kueh sago, kueh bingka ubi and kueh inti (hope i got the names right). The nine hues of colours on the kueh lapis were so pretty and it was so satisfying to peel off the soft layers one at a time! The golf-ball sized oneh oneh came in three variations - coconut, yam and peanuts but I prefer my oneh oneh to be dainty ones, haha. All in, these made for a very satisfying anytime snack. Hope they will make some savoury kuehs too. There are more types of nonya kuehs to try (the kueh dada was sold out) and I'll be back again to try all ....
I agree with the earlier review that it is slightly overpriced. Their nasi lemak was not bad. Other than that, I find the curry “gentle”, babi pon too salty and fish soup is just normal.
Their service was good and I hope they can do better to have more food options, catered for the kids (satay was not available). Thank you.
Came on weekday lunch about 11.30am and it’s full. Waited about half an hour for food. Got the beef rendang nasi lemak (nice and tender, chilli sedap), chap chye, babi pongteh, kueh ($8 for 6). Good food but must wait. $48 for 3 pax
A homely kopitiam offering a select menu of Nonya dishes
They also offer pig stomach soup & teochew fish soup
Decent quality food, like home cooked meals
Non-airconditioned but place was nice & breezy
Decent Nyona Food. Flavourful and fragrant ! 😃 Love the teow chew fish soup with peanut after taste
The har cheong chicken, pig stomach soup and Babi pong teh are good. Chilli very nice too. Kueh also good.
Delicious pig stomach soup and Nasi Lemak , we haven't try the rest so we will back. Nice Nonya snacks too
First time visiting this shop the curry is good. Speak to the owner and they say is more on old school style. Keep it up !
Good experience at Kokoyo with really authentic Nonya cuisine. Price may seem steep but nonya cuisine takes a lot of effort. For this taste and authenticity, i feel justice is given to the nonya traditional cuisine - the fragrance of the Nasi Lemak, succulent chicken, richness of the fish soup. Kudos also too the owner's dad for the most homely and welcoming service, like eating with family! Thank you very much and I wish you all every success.
We ordered chap chye, beef rendang and babi pongteh - the dishes are authentic but the kuehs are below expectations for $1.50 per piece especially when the ondeh ondeh had kueh dadar fillings! Disappointed that there wasn't even sambal belacan as condiments.
Food and kueh are decent but the owner and staff seriously don’t know how to do business. Wanted to pre-order but they said will get mixed up with the GrabFood/FoodPanda/Deliveroo orders when meal service starts. What logic is this?
Wanted to order otah but they said they haven’t launch yet. So why put the otah in the menu if it’s not available?
Wanted to order sotong nasi lemak but was told it’s sold out even though the dinner service just opened 7 mins ago. I guess it’s a lunch only item?
Ordered takeaway and no cutlery given. Okay, this one I should have checked and asked.
I find it odd they can only fry 9 pieces at a time. If you have such a huge crowd then maybe you should upgrade your fryer to accommodate the demand?
Lots of improvements needed or you can close shop once the hype dies down.
v cozy restaurant serving good peranakan food. will be back with our grandparents.
we had the beef rendang / inchi kabin nasi lemak + babi pongteh + pig soup. yummy food with perfectly steamed rice 🍚💖
the kueh kuehs also v nice. we dabao-ed the kuehs and they remained fresh and soft even on 2nd day.
Fantastic place! Ordered their fish soup and its really unique. Didn’t take picture of their kuehs but its really good!
Recommended 👍🏻
A unique taste of Perankan food. Delicious and not too spicy. Love the tender Rendang and squid. Babi Ponteh is my fav with unique taste. The coconut rice is fragrant and not too overpowering with coconut taste. The food tastes even more flavourful with servings in metal plates. Service is efficiently fast. Definitely worth another visit.
Review from a fellow Baba ☺
Genuine and good.
The nasi lemak chilli tasty.
Crew was hard working and made a lot of effort to provide sincere service, keep orders coming out fast.
The food at Kokoyo Nyonya Delights is a celebration of flavors! Every dish is thoughtfully prepared, from the tender meats to the perfectly spiced sambal, creating an authentic and satisfying dining experience.
Stopped by for lunch, and the meal was delicious! The Babi Pongteh and pork stomach soup were the highlights—the meat was tender and flavorful. The prawn paste chicken tasted just like traditional zichar. The chap chye was decent, but with a little more simmering, it could have been even better!
Give them a try. We tried most of their food and our favourites were the fish soup, nasi lemak, kuehs, babi ponteh.
Ps: my toddler son love the fish soup , he kept asking for more 😄
Things to be improved would be their queue management :)
Since kokoyo has open, I personally fell in love with the fish soup. The broth is with aromatic kacang and pairs so well with rice and tick beehoon.
Thank you kokoyo for sharing your heritage culinary to us people 🥰🥰
Was back for family vist for 2 weeks in Nov , and come across this place. I am repeated customer during this 2 weeks, went there about 5 times in total. Love this place. Their Nasi lemak, pig stomach soup , baby ponteh and fish soup is so yummy. This will be my most visited eatery when I back again in Singapore coming this late December.
One of the best customer service. Owner gave us drinks and side dish on the house because the order took slightly longer to come
Kuehs were super delicious!!! Please make the rice with Hae bee hiam one too 🥹
It was.. just okay? I mean don't get me wrong. It was a good plate of nasi lemak, but it wasn't as great as the online reviews made it out to be. I guess the expectation created online was a bit excessive.
Got to try this nyonya food, love the food !!!
We came too late.. the rice are sold out so we only managed to try the bee hoon soup and chap chai. The chap chai is nice . 👍🏼
Super delicious very very nice food😋😋
Visited Kokoyo last night and had an amazing experience. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was great! 10/10 will recommend!
Food is pretty good. Sincere service. Just asking everyone to be patient. It’s not easy starting a business.
Food is great, almost authentic
