Reviews of Lewu Thai
Wanted to find some Asian food around botanic gardens instead of the usual cafes & chanced upon this. Surprisingly authentic delicious Thai food. No ambience to speak of as it’s all alfresco dining beside the main road. very reasonably priced. The chicken basil was great & the oyster kailan was very well stir fried with wok Hei. Fish cakes were good & a lot of pieces were given for the price. Papaya salad was great with a decent punch of sour & spicy flavors. It was sadly completely empty on a Saturday afternoon. Such a waste. Really hope things will get better!.
Here for the first time, craving for some authentic Thai food. Location of lewu is a stall within the "bistro". You can't see the stall because it is tucked away at the back of the bistro. Nonetheless, the hosts are there to take your orders when you get the table.
The place resemble some "kopi-tiam" tucked under an old and huge tree, old charm and decked with al fresco styled pool-side table and chairs and high stools. So we were famished and ordered mango salad, yum woon sen, stir fry kailan, Tom yum soup and pandan chicken, beef stir fry with lemon grass and ice lemon tea.
Surprisingly the wait was decent and the food came out piping hot. In general the fare was pretty authentic. Mango salad hit the right spot with the tangy and fruity sourness and salty balance. The dried shrimps were fragrant.
The yum woon sen was tad bit salty, whilst it had a dash of sourness, it lacked the aroma of nuts. The stir fry kailan also hit the right notes, young and crunchy and palate satisfying but can afford to stay in the wok a little longer. Tom Yum Soup was average but full of ingredients. The pandan chicken was well marinated but could do with more browning to burn off the fats and add crisp to the skin. The beef stir fry was a little dry and too oily to my liking.
To wash it down, the ice lemon tea was a good finisher.
Personally, if you are looking for a casual dinner, the ambience is entertaining, almost like your own backyard. Food wise, the portions are adequate for 3-4 pax, definitely room for improvements.
Super underrated Thai food!! Absolutely love the dishes at Lewu Cafe - my favourite dish is the basil chicken rice (not pictured). The olive rice is also extremely fragrant. Prices are affordable and food is much better than those chain Thai restaurants. Highly recommended!
Tasty Thai food without the pretentiousness. Cash only. Singha beer at a four bottle discount. Al fresco seating that reminded me of dining street side in Bangkok. We had the green curry and Tom yum seafood and another lovely dish. Highly recommended
A nice place to have your meals. Do note that there's only outdoor seating but there's shelter if it rains. My friends and I went here for dinner and it's a nice cooling place to diner in. The food was great and worth the price for its location. Plus, all prices are nett!
Overall a great place. 4*
Yummy thai food for dinner. Our mango salad, tom yam and basil pork rice cost around $24.
Food is nice and authentic taste. Shame the lady at the cashier is so unpleasant and she looks like you bothering her when making the order. Not a smile, can’t understand what she says . Really not custom oriented. Once I ordered I was told pay only cash. Did she had a bad day?
No sign informing is only cash place. What if I had none? Sorry food is nice but with such attitude I can’t give more than3 stars …
Chefs from Thailand. Authentic Thai cooking. Phad Thai..Tom Yum soup Tamarind prawns..Vermicelli prawns..my fav. Mookata is the latest in menu ;))
Food is decent and good portions for sharing
very interesting haunt in the midst of overpriced cafes; often frequented by students in the area! Would recommend if you’re looking for an affordable and tasty option in the area. My friends seemed to enjoy the green curry fried rice and fried kway teow!
One of my favourite places to get Thai food at. I used to come here after school with a friend and love their green curry with rice and an additional fried egg! They have really good Thai milk tea, too. Affordable (~$10 incl. drink) fare and fast service! The only downside is that all their seating is outside, so I usually come on a cloudy day/ in the evening/night.
We ordered the pad Thai and green curry fried rice. The pad Thai was really sweet and nice. The green curry fried rice was unique. The ambience was good. Unfortunately both my husband and I were down with diarrhoea the next day after consuming the food :(
Nice authentic Thai food in the residential neighbourhood. A bit pricey for the ambience you are getting.
Good food, good service, price abit high though
Good food low price! Green curry fried rice is nice!
Pad thai was good, papaya salad so-so, prawn cake had too much flour filling and hardly any prawn.
Lemongrass drink taste like plain water.
Service staff not very good, slow to take order, took wrong order, drinks came after food.
Dining ambience not so good, right infront of a bus stop, limited seating, better takeaway.
Thai/fusion style casual diner. Offerings included traditional Thai dishes such as green curry, pad Thai, basil chicken as well as spaghetti with Thai flavours. Food was reasonably well done albeit price wasn't particularly cheap. 3 dishes and 2 drinks for 2 worked out to just under $50. Comparing to Nakhon Kitchen, lunch here was comparable in quality but priced higher.
Usually a good place, but last time we waited half an hour to be told they only had one left of the dish we ordered. When we ordered something else it came out before the first order. It took forty five minutes to get the first ordered dish. Though it was good, no explanation or apology was offered.
Great value for money thai food in the area. authentic homestyle thai food, with plenty of flavour and just the right serving size. Thankful for a chilled alfresco thai option in the neighbourhood full of increasingly trendy $$$ eateries.
Tom yum was good. But they need to improve the quality of fish cakes, spring rolls and mango sticky rice. Nonetheless, nice place for a dinner and chit chat. :)
The staffs are kind and efficient! My friend and I went for the student deals! Phad Thai was really good and portion was reasonable! ($6.50 for Seafood Phad Thai!!)
Quite affordable, and often frequented by students from nearby schools. There's also a 2nd floor, just be careful to turn right when taking the stairs so you don't end up climbing the flight that leads to a residential estate.
Great place for some Thai food in Singapore!
Would definitely come back for more, cause I'm tellin' ya... That Tom yum was great!
Good quality thai food for a reasonable price. Service is quite fast. Furniture can be renewed.
The food was good but too salty. Nice outdoor casusal sitting and pay at the counter model. Prices affordable.
Food is awesome!!! Forgotten to snap pics though.. will definitely be back again!
Incredible thai food. Try the sticky mango rice
Cheap Thai food but be prepared for a long wait
To-go place for a quick thai food crave fix.
Delicious Thai food, recommended 👍🏻
Good value and nice location
Awesome food awesome service
Cozy place. Food is decent.
Delicious Thai food.
Very good~~^^
Reasonable
Entered the store at 12:00 on Sunday.
No customers other than us.
I'm no longer surprised that he's so unfriendly.
The papaya salad is spicy and delicious as expected.
The green curry was also as expected.
There is a promotion for a set of 4 beers from 24$ to 20$.
I forgot to take a picture, but there was also braised pork with spicy sauce🆗.
The number of customers started to increase and the tables were surprisingly full.
It was a shame that the fried spring rolls were obviously frozen food, but other than that the food was acceptable. There is a possibility of repeat.
