Reviews of Machan's kitchen
Must try the Moringa Plantain Curry. It’s a veg that resembles drumsticks as in the musical instrument, not chicken. Tangy and spicy. Spice level about 7.8 out of 10. Goes so well with the fluffy prata (called parotta). Also had the cauliflower green pea curry. All really good. My fav Indian restaurant in Race Course Road. Oh, prices are also very reasonable.
Machan's kitchen has a nice old school south indian saappatu kadai (eating place) vibe with it's walls decorated with black & white caricatures of tamil movie characters.
Since it was just two of us, I couldn't order a lot of dishes. So I just ordered my favourites - seeraga samba mutton biriyani, mutton chukka and pepper chicken. The standout dish was pepper chicken, it was very authentic in flavour true to it's name. Seeraga samba biriyani was very good with the rice very flavourful and well cooked with spices, but the mutton was a let down - some pieces were undercooked. Chukka was quite good and we had gobi 65 that was not oily at all.
Service was decent, nothing much to talk about. We went on a weekday for lunch and it wasn't crowded. But I have heard that it gets crowded on weekends.
Price point - not very cheap, but IMO, it is worth the quality.
I would certainly like to come back and order more items from their menu. The flavours are really very authentic south Indian, so I am keen to try more dishes.
These dishes got me!
The bro and sis were so kind. They will introduce and suggest the best unique dishes which suit you. The chilli level is adjustable.
The most important is a reasonable price! I only spend 40+, not like other restaurants on this street, around 70+
Been here a few times already. Great food but abit pricey.
Love the mutton ribs and masala tea.
Went on a lunchtime weekend this time and both units were crowded. So come early if you want a seat on a weekend.
Food: Love their chilli paneer and mutton biryani.
Can skip masala thosai (not bad, but Anjappar next door’s beat it)
Must order their tea too! It has a perfect balance of tea and milk flavour.
Will definitely come back and try other foods!
Restaurant at its best for various cuisines of India. You can find authentic indian specifics to mix of cuisines here with variety of Vegetarian options.
Equal vegetarians option makes this restaurant special. Staffs are kind to serve you as quickly as possible. Fish Fingers, Nellai Chilli Chicken, Babycorn fritters, Karandi Omlette, Fish Mango Kolambu, Ilaneer Payasam are at its best to try. Good environment to sit and eat.
A definite 5 star restaurant. Multiple visits.
Madurai Mutton Kozhambu – rich, fiery, and slow-cooked to perfection, it brings out the depth of village-style cooking. Paired with flaky, layered Parotta, the combination is an indulgence worth savoring.
The Mutton Kola is another highlight – perfectly spiced, deep-fried mutton balls with a crispy exterior and tender center, reminiscent of home-style Chettinad fare. The Pallipalayam Chicken, known for its dry, fiery masala with a hint of coconut, delivers authentic Kongu Nadu flavor without overwhelming the palate.
For those who love tawa specials, the Gosh Tawa Fry is a treat – seared to a perfect texture, with robust masalas clinging to each bite. The Nethili Fry (anchovies) is crisp, spicy, and well-balanced, perfect as a starter or side.
Delightful experience with very authentic South Indian tasting food. Such a refreshing expericne compared to all the other restaurants in Singapore. Service is fast, staff are friendly. However do note you will end up waiting for quite sometime to get in during lunch hours. They sincerely need to enable a dinning time limit. So many customers just sitting and having coffee while the restaurant has to turn away other guests..
Really enjoyed the South Indian food here. First, excellent service 👌 and the food preparation and taste was 👌 awesome. We enjoyed the soup, the briyani, the sides and the elaneer halwa for desert. The price is so reasonable too!
This place never fails to disappoint. I was hooked because of the heat levels of the dishes, unfortunately they have since decreased it to suit the majority. However, upon request you can have the heat levels increased. The food is good, the staff are super friendly and are willing to explain what their dishes are made of (they know their stuff).
Special mention for their nandu (crab) rasam, chases away flu ailments. Add more black pepper for more oomph. You can have it all day long!
Great place for friends/family. Will keep going back for more.
Extraordinary Indian foods especially Tamil cuisine is too good . Lil bit pricey but ok to pay for Tamil food in Singapore . Must experience spot .
I did a special order for my group of senior leaders for a corporate event and it was so great to have a deepavali feast of bucket briyani. They did a fantastic way of delivering with good packaging, scrumptious briyani and did a fabulous job. Highly recommend.
The menu offers a wide variety of options, and everything we tried was delicious. I especially loved the creative twists on the omelette! Their mutton ribs was scrumptious! (Mutton ribs star of the show!) Even though we ordered from grab it only took 20min for the food to arrive and all meals are still hot!! Will def come here when im back to Singapore again. Unfortunately i forgot to take photos of it
Food was great and great place to have your meal. Paid $6.90 for the mutton soup, but only received this as the mutton.
Update : Managed to settle this issue with the restaurant. Way to go machan kitchen.
Today was my first time there . Many mentioned I should try it so I decided to give it a try. Little did I know my mouth and tummy was going to be enchanted with fantastic flavours. I got a little carried with the menu.. so bare with me.. mutton briyani.. mutton Chukka.fishfry.. chicken lillopop ..eggfry... pepperchicken. Mutton(ribs) soup..and damn awesome curry chicken.. This is simple names I've named. But the menu has different names for the items mentioned.. briyani was so aromatic and the meat was so beautifully cooked...I am not going to go into the details because then I will be hungry again now.. try the food I have listed and trust me this place with become ur next fab go to restaurant... young hip vibrate with fantastic Indian food.. u guys r doing a great job here !! Pls keep it up!!
Authentic Indian flavours. Enjoyed every dish we ordered. Will definitely frequent this place. Highly recommended!
We had an awesome meal last night. It was very delicious. The service was excellent and friendly. Would definitely eat at Machan's Kitchen again.
Wonderful experience, each and every menu is unique, food was delicious, unforgettable moment with Machan's kitchen.they must be having a great chef. Bit costly but worth for money. Thank you so much Machan's Kitchen🙏.
Excellent place. It’s as good as we get biriyani in India. Most of the dishes tasted extremely good. I ordered Madurai mutton try and it was yummy. If the quantity is increased it will be helpful. Most of the times people tend to have two biriyani for it’s quantity.
I have been thrice to this place. Food is good
I like the chicken Lolly pop and tavaa fish with mint.
The people who serve are very helpful. The paraota is nice and crispy. This restaurant has got it's own unique flavour different from all the other restaurants. Could be the cook is from a special place 😉
Tastier than the other Tamil restaurants on this road -especially their garlic rice and potato masala. Despite reading great reviews, the mutton biryani was actually pretty disappointing and not that tasty (maybe it was an off day?).
One of the best South Indian authentic food place in SG. Always fresh food served with a lot of love and happiness.
Lovely, chilled atmosphere. Introduced by a Tamil friend whose family knows their South Indian food!! Kottu Paratha is apparently authentic and a star dish. Simple, delicious on banana leaf with a masala tea. Heavenly.
A very authentic south indian food spot.
Coconut pudding over there is their signature dish and a must try
The ambience is very unique and some nostalgic. The place is very clean and the staff are always on the roll.
The drinks were very refreshing and food very flavourful. Will go back for sure.
A pretty decent south Indian restaurant. Definitely the best in Little India (most of the others are highly overrated). My favourites was the Chilli Fish, Nandu Rasam and the Coconut pudding for deserts. These three are amazing. The Mutton biryani (samba rice) was pretty great, way better than the ones in Thalapakatti or Anjappar. We also tried the Nellai chicken masala and crab balls, which were pretty average. On the whole, the chilli fish, nandu rasam, mutton biryani were all a little spicy but I love spicy food - so I enjoyed it throughout. If you dig spicy food too, you'll definitely like Matchan's Kitchen.
P.S. Their wall decos were unique too.
An Indian restaurant that brings the intensely flavourful cuisine of the state of Tamil Nadu to Singapore. While every item on the menu has been carefully picked, one just needs to mention their preferences to the affable owner and then his recommendations work perfectly, every single time. If you're near Little India, don't miss an opportunity to eat here.
Best TamilNadu traditional food in Singapore...Best Mutton Biriyani and fish curry in Singapore...best traditional drinks like Nannari Sarbat and Paanagam👍👍👍👍👍...Variety of delicious food...Murungai Vazhapoo Kozhambu The Best
Hi, the food was too good, chicken briyani must try, i would give compliments to the staff Karthi and Tinagaran service was very good, very helpful 👍 kudos 👏 . Thank you so much!
A treat for kongu or madurai style food lovers... Undoubtedly one of the best chettinadu restaurants and a go to place any day!! The chicken ghee roast, Marina style squid, mutton chukka, madurai mutton curry dosa was all a true delicacy.
I went there last night for dinner. It's was really great welcoming when entered into the Restaurant. Great hospitality and serving the foods. Very clean environment. Really enjoyed for "Hot Chicken Briyani, starter mutton soup and Brinjal thokku". It's was awesome taste and delicious. I give a guarantee if you will visit "Machan's Kitchen Restaurant", you can having a tasty and traditional foods with great manner. Special thanks to Mr Velumani Annan (Owner of the Restaurant).
The mango fish curry was amazing, probably one of the best I've had. The prawns were so fresh and the mutton really tender. Love this meal so much! Service was great!
Just as the Picture..you will fall in love with their food....Delicious, Scrumptious, Tasty authentic flavour full food..wow..!!!
Being a Madurai descendent .we love to eat...my taste buds were longing to try their authentic food for a long time ..after hearing their reviews...today was the D-Day
Started with Lollipop Chicken , Dragon Chicken(Chinese New year special)..My kids loved it..the masala’s were just right..not spicy..so you can actually relish the food..the lollipop chicken crust was perfect not too thick not too thin..(cannot find this perfection in SINGAPORE anywhere else)
Main course : We had their authentic seeraga sambha mutton dum biriyani..so many boneless pieces in small sizes as we dig in..very happy customer ..biriyani was full of flavour..a absolute winner..!!! and we had kongunadu chicken curry a unique taste..just yummy..!!!
Will be a regular from now on..😍
Highly Recommended..!!!!
The standout dish of the day was the kola urundai(fried meat balls) ..the crust was so thin and the meat was cooked to perfection..such that it dissolved in the mouth..Madurai Kaaranuku..this was being in heaven..hmm..!!!
Note: you want your dishes a bit spicy..please let them when you order..
17.07.22 - Review Update
Another sumptuous Lunch..
Started off with a Chicken soup.. It was full of flavour.. The chicken essence combined with the fresh pepper and spices..garnished with finely chopped coriander leaves..was just heavenly..made my day.. My kids loved the soup with the small size tender chicken pieces which came with it.. If u have a cold or running nose this is the best natural remedy u can get..
Tried the Nellai chilli chicken.. Ordered twice.. Soft tender pieces with the right amount of spice justifying its name.. Kids loved it with parotta.. The capsicum and onion was cramalised with the spices.. Complemented the tender chicken
Looking for the best lollipop chicken in town.. They are the best.. Still maintain the right crispness.. Reviewed last time.. Quality is still the ISO standard 😃
Finished with the coconut soufflé.. It Just dissolved in the mouth 😍..the sweetness in Singapore Slang is "Just Nice".. Bought 1 first and ended up ordering 3 pieces😋
The quality has not changed since the last visit.. Keep up the good work..👌
Update :
New Menu with new dishes added way to go guys
6th April 2025
Amazing Tamil food. The original mutton chukka was one of the best I have ever had. Great staff and even better prices.
Catering Service Review:
When my order fell short of the minimum, the point of contact Mr. Siva Balan quickly offered à la carte options and helped me choose the right quantities. The food was delicious, making the experience delightful overall. Highly recommended!
Went here with a few friends for dinner. A M A Z I N G food - period. The menu is unique with traditional drinks like Panagam and d Sharbath. Their starters and soups were wow as were the main course dishes. Their gooseberry pepper soup was my favourite followed by the dosai and the chappathi. The manager made some amazing recommendations and his focus on client service was fantastic !!
Thank you machan's kitchen for making our child's birthday a memorable moment. We were highly moved by your staff's cooperation for arranging a beautiful surprise cake in the last minute. Best service and Fabulous food. We wish you a fantastic new year 2020
First time visiting the restaurant, but both the service and food were amazing. Our waiter recommended some great dishes and went above and beyond in accommodating for food allergies. My personal favourites were chili chicken, mutton rib chops, and the mutton briyani. You can tell a lot of effort not only goes into the food, but also the restaurant decor and friendly service. For any tourist or local looking to try South Indian food with a homely touch, definitely give this restaurant a try.
If there is an Authentic Dindigul food experience here in Singapore... it's here for sure. Machan's Kitchen was a restaurant I came across in accident. However today I realise, that it wasn't an accident. Rather a blessing. I enjoyed every minute of the food, atmosphere and service here in Machan's Kitchen.
1st visit 23 mach
The chutney fish roast and mutton biryani was awesome 👍. One of the best south Indian foods, friendly staff , good atmosphere. Service was great!
my family had dinner here. The karaikudu chicken and mutton, prawn elakal was amazing full of flavour. the mutton briyani the meat was chonky and tender absolutely loved it. price is so worth it, will definitely come back.
10/10 recommend if you are craving some good indian food.
prices are slightly on the higher side but the portions of every dish can feed 2-3pax, good for sharing & definitely worth the value 💯
Food was amazing especially squid pepper fry !! Authentic food will recommend everyone to try..!!
I must say the food is so delicious with the friendly environment. The quantity of food they give for the affordable price is the highlight. The Machan's team looks young, and we definitely must encourage the youngsters to bring more innovative ideas. Guys, keep rocking. People who haven't visited pls do visit with no second thoughts on the taste.
We friends of 10 went there and tried different dishes .All very tasty esp nellai chilli chicken, mutton chukka and chutney fish is a must try one.
One of the best places to go for Tamil Nadu cuisine in Little Indian. The menu has such good variety and their taste is spot on.
The only thing I noticed is food is not up to par during weekdays compared to weekends.
So if anyone wants to give it a try prefer week offs 😅
P.tS: One of the few shops that gives hot crispy dosa all the time 😍
Authentic South Indian food. With that please don’t come looking for butter chicken, tikka masala etc. The food is delicious but it is very spicy, especially if you are used to less seasoned food. Their drinks are delicious, they have seasonal traditional drinks so give that a try. Would definitely come back.
Went for lunch and the food is awesome as usual and very very original south Indian taste . Karaikudi chicken and spl mutton biryani is must try. As usual the boss bala and his wife welcomed us with a smile . Great place to dine with family and friends .
Any foreginer visiting Singapore who wants to try Indian(south indian) food must visit this restaurant. 👌
Basmati Rice Biryani visibly looked dull, I had instant negative thoughts but when I tasted it - the taste blew me away. Finished in 10 mins. Manchurian prepared perfectly well and tasted great. Though there was a waiting time, they helped us find a table immediately as we had kids. The yogurt was a let down - tasted really sour. Parotta perfectly south indian 👌. Their lassi and coconut payasam was spot on. Ths schezwan fried rice felt under fried, but tasted good. Overall a well managed south indian restuarant that is worth the price you spend.
We had a team dinner here. The taste was so good and the service is fast.
They serve a great chapati set. It has the right combination of fluffiness and smoothness in texture. The taste is fresh and goes well with the mildly spucy gravy.
This place is great. Very child friendly staff. Today we went with our little boy and my son felt home at this place. And their food is amazing. Ambience is lovely. Washrooms are clean as well.
Good experience. Good hospitality. Food is definitely great! Would recommend everyone to come here and enjoy their food! Even I had to come down from Hell to try!😈
Spicy, delicious and unique! The biryani is an absolute winner here but the rest is very good too. Crab rasam is an interesting dish for crab lovers (a bit like a spicy crab soup) but my recommendation would be the dry/semi-dry chicken dishes. Mutton is usually soft and well cooked here too. The drinks are worth a try! Place is clean, food is not too oily. The best part? So reasonably priced!! At such good quality and reasonable prices, I would easily pick Machans over other little India eateries.
Excellent service by Karthik, friendly calm and smiling always.
Well deserved to be recognised for promotion and salary raise.
Good food, nice staff. A bit spicy if you're not used to it but was tasty
Brilliant restaurant - found this place a great allrounder- sincere food, charming decor and gracious staff. Best of all no plasticware.
Amazing food with authentic taste. Mutton biryani, country chicken curry and coconut pudding must try. Do not miss these amazing dishes!!
Good food. Friendly service. No alcohol though.
Mutton briyani is awesome ..
You can enjoy the food variety..
Broad menu of mostly Tamil food. Salted mutton delicious. And Coconut patayam dessert just perfect. Friendly and helpful service in a bright clean environment. Highly recommended.
Delicious food and the recommendations from the boss/front of house were excellent. Nice spice, quality meat that breaks apart softly and fresh lemon soda. 10/10!
The food was very delicious n tasty. Food ordered was just nice. No wastage. Mr Pandi n Mr Jegadish were very helpful during the dinner event. Thank you
Food and service was excellent! Staff were considerate and polite. Haven't had such tasty food in a restaurant in such a long time! Also commendable that the food arrived quite fast (but was still warm and seemed fresh!). Really liked the nellai chili chicken and the coconut payasam (I don't fancy payasam but this was yummy!).
Authentic South Indian food & super super super delicious!!!!
From 1st visit 4 years ago to multiple visits till date, their food taste remains the same. Never changed.
Recommended to try: vegetable biriyani, sambar (lenthil soup with drumstick), pepper chicken, homestyle mutton masala.
In dessert : Pista Kulfi
It is a very cool atmosphere and looks stylish. And I strongly recommend a mutton dish.. forgot its name but it's one of its signature dish. Must try. It is a bit expensive but worth giving a try. A good place for hanging out with friends. If you like spicy food, come here.
Food is good as usual but the service levels have dropped tremendously. The floor was way too slippery and when I mentioned it to the staff, they brushed it off. When soft drinks were served, we asked for ice cubes and it took 3 persons and 15 minutes and a few reminders to get it served.
1.Have to wait for seated. We get one corner place near stor room.
2. The food portions are to little. We order mutton biryani and chicken biryani. We have to find the chicken and mutton😅. We feel like just ate rice only. No different.i get the chicken wing, but it also half only. Feel like wasted our money.
The seeraga samba mutton briyani at Machans is very different from other restaurants. It’s delicious. Mutton kola urundai is very soft and tasty. So are their mutton curries. Must try are also their coconut soufflé, which is unique and not too sweet. They used to serve tasty nannari sarbath, but don’t think they have it any more. Good service and great ambiance to good with the delicious food. One of my favourites in Singapore.
Yummy food. Delivery was on time and food still tasted good. The butter chicken and chappathi was super good. Try their food and u will not regret!
Tasty and reasonable price. Good service. Delicious food and good price. Excellent service
Super delicious curry and great customer service!
The store staff who have been to Japan are friendly and helpful!
However, the portion was a bit large, so it might be better to share one curry.
Nice food and good ambiance… Can try their Seeragam samba dum briyani and Nellai chilli chicken! 😊
Must try biryani, mutton biryani more nice
