Reviews of Masalaa Bar
This was my second visit, and we absolutely love the food there. Their dishes are unique and different from the usual Indian food we typically have. They have their own special creations, and the lamb dish, in particular, is incredibly flavorful and pairs perfectly with beer. We also really enjoy the Indian street food they serve—it’s a delightful experience!
The food was good, but nothing special. I think the prices are too high for the quantity and quality of food. The food was nice and the atmosphere and service were great. A nice place to go once in a while for a nice dinner. Easy to get reservations on Google. I personally think the menu was not well designed as it was difficult to read and assess all the menu items because of the formatting.
A hidden gem in the quaint neighbourhood of siglap near east coast. Offers desi chaat menu like vada pau and pani puri. They also serve specialty dishes from the Bollywood state of Maharashtra. The service is swift and stupendous.
We opted to sit outside in the patio whilst it was raining and it felt good to smell the wet mud as we eat the chaat sipping karak masala chai.
Had booked a table for 12 pax at least 3 weeks before visiting the outlet, on actual day, was given a table for 10 pax. Upon enquiring, I was told that the outlet is full, please manage it... how do I manage 12 pax on a 10 seater.. Disappointing.
Lovely ambience with delicious food. There fusion menu is amazing and must try
Delicious masala papad and food .Sundrersh manager is very polite .Excellent service by staff…..
Food is great! Love the Nihari Ghosht Korma, mutton was so soft with great taste.
Monsterous MB papad is such a special dish!
I must say anything you order here its the best. You don’t have to think twice. I went there with a group of 18 pax and it was super fun. We ordered below food and more I guess.
Nanza, pani puri, palak paneer and cheese naan, gulab jamun turned out to be the bestest of best.
Starters:
Masala papad
Nanza
Pani puri shots
Main course:
Misal pav
Chicken biryani
Lamb biryani
Palak paneer
Butter chicken
Garlic naan
Cheese naan
Desserts:
Paan shot
Gulab jamun
Chikki ice cream
Definitely a place to revisit!!
We had a very tasty dinner
Misal.pav was tasty.
Panipuri was fun
Vada pav were out of this world .
Enjoyed all drinks starters and dhal makhani too
Finish of with a super chai
Worth it.
Staff were also well corodinated
Nice place to enjoy Indian food.
Went there for Dinner at around 6 PM. The place was empty when we went in, was full within the next 1.5 hours.
The good,
A. Food was tasty
B. The servers and the usher were nice and checked on us many times.
C. The presentation was very nice, you can judge by the pictures.
Areas for improvement
A. It took 30+ mins for the mains to come.
B. The guy that took the order could not explain much or guide us.
Bit on the expensive side, check the menu pics and monthly specials.
One of the best Indian restaurants I have ever dined at. Savoured every single dish I ordered.
Economical prices as compared to other indian restaurants In Singapore
Highly recommended 👌
Great food and ambience. Non-alcoholic mojito rocked. Tried many vegetarian options and all were good.
The service was really good, i went to dine by myself and the staff was quite sweet but the food was hyped i believe. I had the samosa chaat and martini pao bhaji and felt they only looked good(insta worthy) but tasted average. They had pretty hand painted murals on the walls which i really loved❤️
Amazing food! Great vibe.
Enjoyable dinner!
Chai tea👍
Pani puri - pleasant taste! First time tasting it.
Mango Lassi - too sweet!
Chef Milind of "song of India" fame has created a masterpiece with masalaa bar. The food, ambience, service is outstanding. While I miss Gayathri, what's come in its place is just fantastic and a must visit in the east coast. The beer promotion just made it that much more sweeter.
Masalaa bar is one of the local watering hole for people living in the East Coast / Marine Parade Area. The Indian food is authentic and delicious enough to attract many Indian expatriate clientele.
I love their Martini Pao Bhaji with the toasted garlic bread which tastes great although It tastes more tomatoey than other Bhaji I’ve tasted.
The Masala papad is such a treat with spiciness of I think paprika powder.
The intoxicated Pani Puri shots are incredible explosions of taste with we think vodka mixed with the mint water.
My other negative feedback is their Indian inspired cocktails. They are not that great so I would only recommend you get the standard cocktails instead of the Indian inspired cocktails.
Under normal circumstances the servers may be more attentive to customers but during the pandemic restrictions, they seem very flustered but I cannot blame them for it. Just be aware.
Serving fun Indian street and flashy food on a whole new level, they are pocket friendly and exciting for your tastebuds
Celebrity Chef Milind Sovani has been curating Michelin-star-worthy menus and serving high-profile guests, he’s all set to bring to you new and affordable experience at East Coast Road!
Masalaa Bar features some of the funkiest and craziest food and drinks, each with a desi story of its own, with a pinch of that amazing Chef Milind swag.
From the INDIAN FOOD TRUCK:
PANI PURI SHOTS (CRISPY PUFFS WITH MINT WATER EXPLOSION)
VADA PAO SLIDERS (Spiced potato patty in Mumbai buns)
ZAFRANI MURG MALAI TIKKA (SAFFRON Enhanced Creamed chicken kebabs)
BOMBAY VEG GRILLED SANDWICH
MARTINI PAO BHAJI (vegetable melt with garlic crostini Pao)
GOAN FISH CURRY (FRESH SEABASS FILLET COCONUT GOAN CURRY)
MB KHAAS SUKKA MUTTON (Spicy dry stir fry mutton, ideal with your drinks)
NAAN-(PLAIN/BUTTER/ GARLIC)
LONAWALA CHIKKI ICE CREAM (HOME MADE ICE CREAM WITH PEANUT CRUMBLE)
From the BAR MENU
AAM AADMI (Rum, Honey & Mango)
KAMASUTRA (Passion fruit, plums & fizz)
The dishes are authentic and you can taste all the spices that go into them. The ingredients are fresh and of good quality. The garlic naan is loaded with garlic which makes it so good. We enjoyed the street food vibe with the pushcart serving the snacks. So come over, and immerse yourself in an Indian pop-culture escapade like no other!
Went there dinner time to have a bit of snacks. Had pani puri for the first time here. and had this mini burger too. Both taste great. Service was great too and waitress was really nice and friendly.
The food is tasty and filled with nice herbs and mints aroma in the lamb and chicken curry 🍛
5/5 for presentation of food
3/5 for service( the service was slow , understand that it was a saturday and was crowded. Food was kept on serving table for quite a while and nobody served it to us. I even had to cancel one order as it took so long)
Overall experience was good but could be better.
Great food! The monstrous MB Papad is a must have! Its not oily, not soggy and the one with the most apt toppings and you cannot just stop eating it! We also tried Vada Pao Sliders, Pani Puri Sober Shots and Smoked Paprika Cheese Kulcha. Sliders were too good, the dry garlic chutney is fantabulous! Pani Puri was good, Cheese Kulcha was the most underwhelming of all.
Beer from the tap was good and Gulaboo cocktail was nice too. Overall good place to have Indian food with a twist.
Walked in for some quick bites on a weekday late afternoon. The service was super quick, order came in very swiftly. Had the masala papad (outstanding!), vada pav sliders (must have), martini Pav Bhaji (quirky presentation, but average in taste). The masala chai is great. Like the interiors as well, gives a lift to the slightly drab neighbourhood. Very affordable pricing, compared to the city.
I live too far away otherwise I would be a regular here 😊
The food has a nice touch and the variations to our regular indian food was really special.
Excellent food and great service ! The monster papad was unusual and extremely tasty . Will be back again for sure!
Made an impromptu dinner plan to Masala Bar... We were not disappointed with our choice... Dishes were super yummy.. surely they can improve on their service bit.
Awesome ambience. Mouth watering entrees. The cocktail names are zany and they taste yumm. Never moved beyond entrees. Will go back for sure
Go there for great atmosphere, tasty Biryani and gravies.
Worth avoiding - Pani Puri (below avg)
My experience over an returned chicken biryani was bad. The chicken was undercooked and had slight blood on the inside which a very persistent server kept backing up as correct.
The dish was cancelled but still quitely added to the bill.
This followed by unnecessary back and forth for be paid back in cash, the Hassel was certainly not worth $19 and left a bad taste in my mouth.
So if you do decide to go, double check your bill
We went for dinner in Masala Bar and ordered mango shake, masala lemon soda, zafrani murg malai tikka, tandoori roti, garlic naan and amritsari naam. We liked the food and service was also fast.
My friends and I had a nice curry fish head dinner on a Saturday evening. The place was not packed no it was easy to get a place.
The decorations are beautiful with the nice mural of birds, brightly lit with lights, and modern furniture.
Curry fish head was good as usual, along with the usual side dishes or cauliflower, chicken, naan and prawns.
Servers were attentive with topping up our water, asking us if we needed anything more.
I felt the side dishes with the biryani could be improved with more variety, and better taste as the spinach and raita were just so-so.
Authentic and Creative indian cuisine. Adding to my earlier review we had the best konkani food. My kids loved the fish curry and neer dosa. They have a konkani festival until the 1st of May. If you want to have an authentic experience then please do go.
Tried their Misal, papdi chaat, vada pav, kulfi.
Everything was amazing and quite authentic. But it looked like they were understaffed and the waiting time after ordering was quite long (around 15-20 minutes)
Love the food, ambience and service there! First time eating Pani Puri, love it!
Tried most of the Cocktails.
They were okay for a one time tasting.
Didn't quite live up to the hype.
Staffs were friendly and accommodative.
Went to Masalaa Bar for the first time today! We tried their limited-time special menu “Misal Mania” and tried the first two platters on the menu! The platters tasted great and we ordered an additional naan to scope up the remaining food! Great service for us too!
Nicely decorated place and ambience is great. Fish head curry was really nice as well as the chicken dum briyani. This outlet is not located in a crowded location so it's perfect for those who wants a less crowded place to enjoy the great food with friends and family.
The cocktails are specially curated by chef Milind but need to be better optimized. The food is very innovative and Chef Sovani is very hospitable.
Very chilled vibe with great value for money. A constant stream of people from around 7pm meant for a buzzy atmosphere. The cocktails are delightful and the food tasty. We were lucky enough to be able to experience the last day of the food fiesta but we look forward to returning to work our way through the menu. Yum!
Excellent food and super warm and friendly service 👍🏻
Had few times dinner here. Specially during Maharashtrian food festival. Food is good. Some food had less salt but that is fine. But one thing which I didn’t liked that they are giving pan shot complimentary if you will give 5 star rating in review.
Review and rating should be genuine to help other people. Fake rating is something which is not good.
We loved the food and ambience. The staff were friendly. Special thanks to Prince for the service. Would strongly recommend this place
Plenty of options, delicious meals 👍 must come and try if you like Indian food
Great food and very lively atmosphere. Service is fast and friendly. Highly recommend. Try the Monster Papad if you are really hungry!
Unsure why rating is this high! Food was average! Especially mains! Starters were still decent!
The restaurant ambience is good and staff (Mr Sundaresan) is very cordial and friendly. Must try dishes - vada pav sliders, pav bhaji, pani puri, pista kulfi, and many more. They have exciting monthly deals and promotions too.
Great place to dine.. Very vibrant atmosphere and great food.. Definitely a must visit in Singapore if you are craving Indian food
There are practically no restaurants serving Maharashtrian cuisine in Singapore. So when we heard of a "Kolhapuri Food Festival" in Masalaa Bar, we couldn't resist! The festival was over, but the place was a good discovery.
This is one of those places where you'll find it to be great if you choose the right items on the menu. Your experience will be disappointing if you choose wrong menu to order. Here's my suggestion on drinks and food to get you a good experience:
- Adraki Confetti cocktail
- Starters: Poha encrusted Malvani fish fry, Chicken tikka. Don't try the Pav Bhaji Martini.. it lets you down
- Main course: Surmai Fry, Kheema Pao, Dal Makhni
- Dessert: Lonavla Chilli Ice cream
Some of the other drinks were quite sad - they need a real good bartender really quickly!
One area of improvement: the music is too loud! It's unusual for a restaurant in Singapore and kinda tough if you're looking to have long conversations..
Good food, good service, great environment! Will be back
Very good food, good ambience and the best was the service. Very polite staff. Must try is the kulfi!
Best place to hangout in Singapore! My go to place every week with my family friends! Best Indian restaurant in Singapore.
Loved the place...Parking can be a bit tricky .
The food was excellent! Each dish was a delight.
I loved the masala chai with a deep touch of cinnamon. My only grouse was that didn't pour me a full cup and had to be asked to do so.
Ask for the house special dishes and you will not be disappointed.
The Galouti Kebab was soft and flavourful. The chicken was tender and juicy. Really liked the food, spacious and good music. Will definitely recommend to try! 👍🏻
Best place for desi food and drinks in East side.
Good ambience and great food, special 5 stars for pao bhaji
Great vibe for Indians to come and enjoy. Definitely would recommend this place.
Must try Vada pao. It’s very good.
The food and service is outstanding. The food is fresh, light and tasty. The Peshawari paneer and the Pundina paratha are perfect complements. Recommendations on the portion sizes was very helpful. We were 2 people and they did not let us over order.
Special shout out and appreciation to the service staff. Thank you very much.
Diwali dinner. The food was delicious. A taste of home for a Mumbaiite like me Pleasure meeting and chatting with the owner. The staff is polite and service was quick ,but a little more eye on small details would be nice. Definitely recommend the place .
Good Indian food. Nice vegetarian options. Will come back to try more.
Food is fine with some innovative dishes
Service is not so good... should be faster
The pricing is extremely high for a normal restaurant... this is not a fine dining or classy restaurant... at best I would put it as a level above a food court stall... for that kind of a setting the price (~$40 per person) is very steep
Friendly staff, nice food, nice music too!
We have 4 pax dining in for dinner. Carpark outside the restaurant is limited however its free after 5pm. You may park at the opposite carpark and cross the road. We have a wonderful night there chatting with nice ambience, they played different languages pop songs.. the tea is nice with a strong fragrance. Will visit again!
Fantastic North Indian Cusine with a twist! Love the food and the customer service is top notch! Will definitely recommend.
We had a very good dining experience here. Sunderesh and his staff took care of us very well. Would definitely come back!
The food was excellent, the meats(mutton in particular) were cooked very well and the taste was great! I definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone with a love of the Indian cuisine. I also loved the Pani Puri Shots and the service was great as well.
Nice ambience and good food.,
Chanced upon this place after an evening cycling trip. Place was packed and my group were lucky to get outside seats just before the crowd started. Would recommend to make reservations.
Food were pretty good. Personally prefer the chicken masalaa though my friends preferred the butter chicken. Do give the mango dessert a try too!
Very good selection. Good price and tastes so so good
Food is good and service is good too except at the end, they were very pushy about getting a google review and it spoilt my experience there. the staff looked over our shoulder at our phones to make sure we were writing our review here. Felt a bit uncomfortable because of this.
Awesome food excellent service
Lively ambience
Chef Milind is one of the best in the culinary world! Masalaa bar has my heart! The service is excellent.
The dine-in experience was entirely satisfactory as well. Every item on the menu is delicious at the same time eye pleasing!😍 can't wait to try those paanipuri shots next! Kudos to the chef and his team!
Great service, great food and great atmosphere! What more can you ask for? I will be back!
Delicious Mumbai street food. The panipuri shots and the vada pao sliders were spicy and lip smacking. The tandoori chicken and mutton nihari were also very good. The items we chose were all on the spicy side. There were a few items from Delhi on the menu too.
Would love to see this menu expand and include street food from other parts of India too. Kolkata, for example, has amazing street food.
Best place to hang out with my family in masalabar. Love chicken biriyani here! Looking for best and tasty food highly recommend place in Singapore.
Papadi chat, Vada pav was good
Ghost Korma, Garlic naan was just average
Very good Indian cuisine. If you are a tourist, I recommend visiting this place. Very colorful and tasty
Monster Papad and Vada Paav Sliders are a must try. Also Martini Pav Bhaji is good.
Amritsar kulcha
Sugar free Kulhad tea
vada pao
Dal - and the portion size were all great!!
Mini vada pav's and garam chai ki pyali is all time fav after office snack :-)
Enjoyed surmai fry and kolhapuri platter! Must try
Kothimbir wadi is a great dish. Perfect recipe.
