Reviews of Molten Diners
Great food, fast service. The place offers creative sauces that goes along with you food, whether you have to choose it or it comes as part of the dish. Which is great and flavourful.
The atmosphere is okay. I wasn't expecting much as the restaurant is located at Thompson, its a typical layout for most of the restaurant there. Most importantly, its clean in the front of house.
The menu is extensive and has description of the food you buying. This to me, is important so that i know what I am purchasing. The wagyu steak I had was cooked as how i ordered it, medium done. The portion is great, came with Mac and Cheese and fries. Not a fan of Mac and Cheese, never liked it. BUT, Molten Diner's Mac and Cheese was superb! Even I surprised myself. It was cooked and baked with nachos cheese instead of your typical cheese and milk kind of Mac and Cheese. I ended up having my steak with the mac and cheese.
The mussels i ordered were great, tomato based sauce mussels. Apologies i couldn't remember the exact name of dish i ordered. The mussels were fresh and the sauce were of just the right flavour.
All in all good experience and food ia great, affordable and pleasant.
Cosy atmosphere. We have to order and pay first. Lobster bisque is flavorful. Ordered 2 different types of fish & chips which are good, American breakfast which is great, Wagyu beef which is tender and Lamb chop that's tasty. We were surprised as all meal comes in big portion. It's definitely a great place and it's not that expensive at all. Highly recommend this restaurant. The only downside is the parking space around Upp Thomson area, very difficult to get and not many carpark space.
Not a food critic myself, so my review is mostly about my experience at the cafe. Through a friend's recommendation, me and my friends came here for dinner. For myself I ordered Wagyu steak with curvy fries and creamy corn as sides, and a molten's signature cooler.
Steak itself is great (hello Wagyu), as for doneness it was slightly overcooked on one side of the steak. However taste is still great as the brown sauce (you get to choose between brown or black sauce) complements the steak really well. Curly fries is served warm (probably took too much pictures and it turned warm) and it's crunchy, creamy corn is pretty decent as well. Overall I would say dining experience is pretty chill and cozy, lady boss is very friendly and overall ambience is comfortable with some industrial touch to the interior.
Apart from my steak, I also tried my friends' Yakiniku mushroom prime ribeye steak and yuzu butter salmon, both are equally delicious. The steak looks mouth-watering and taste is exceptional (prefers my friend's to mine) except that the yakiniku sauce is a tad salty. Salmon with yuzu sauce is quite refreshing as well, great for peeps who wanna try something new/different.
Highly recommended for youngsters or adults who's looking for good food without the expensive price tag (of course Wagyu you gotta pay more), oh and did I forgot to mention that they are opened till 1am! Awesome place to hangout with friends for late night supper, or even for lunch/dinner. Five stars for the great food, ambience, friendliness and hospitality by the lady boss and her staff!
Would definitely come back again!
Value for money suburban hipster-like cafe. Dishes were quite filling; needs a second visit to try the desserts.
Best to take the train as the station is just outside.
Such good burgers and steaks. Try the creamy muscles too, they're so good. Currently have this 1-for-1 promo on steak. DONT MISS OUT 👌🏼 Been there multiple times, consistency of the food was *Chef's Kiss* 👨🍳🤌🏻
1st Visit:Ordered a Chocolate Lava cake. Disappointed that the chocolate filling is not sufficient and did not flow out from the cake as most Lava Cake do. However, will visit again to try other dishes.
2nd Visit: ordered chicken cutlet with molten rice and would recommend it as its fragrant, tasty and a good portion of the crispy cutlet.
The chicken burger was well presented and found it delicious.
The perfect amount of pasta with very creamy and savoury Neapolitan sauce. The chicken chop was well grilled. It came along with your own choice of Molten House of Sauces and I went for Harissa Chilli (served in a soup spoon). All in all, it suits my tastebud and I would come again!
The food here gets only 3/5 for the taste. Taste wise the food is just average. Not too bad but not spectacular either.
It get the 4 stars due to the big portions, value for money, and staff being polite. Before we left, the staff said thank you as we left and were also courteous while serving us.
I would label this place as the place to get a filling meal that is value for money but not a place to get your tastebuds satisfied.
Second time dining here and once again, had an enjoyable experience. Food is priced rather reasonably for its taste and portion size. Had pasta on both occasions (aglio olio, tomato base) along with sirloin steak/salmon and both tasted nice, though I prefer the salmon personally. Friendly staff and great service😊. Will be back to try other menu dishes!!! Hope they offer other menu promotions too😍
Bought the wagyu 1-for-1 promotion for $58 total (2 pax). The food was good (not fantastic), but the service was top notch!
The waitress was superbly patient with an incredibly annoying customer who was, in essence, harassing her loudly for over 10 minutes. While I was rationing my BBQ sauce, another waiter brought a saucer of BBQ sauce without me saying or asking anything. It is very rare that I have experienced unsolicited (in a good way!) customer service, so I couldn't stop smiling after that!
Great initiative and this was what spurred me to write my FIRST EVER google review! (I think.. otherwise it's definitely within my first three haha)
$0.50 for a glass of tap water.
No service charge and thus not much of a service.
Staff tried their best but still fall short of a restaurant standard.
It would do well as a canteen catering to students on a budget.
Make a reservation to avoid disappointment. Limited space. Wagyu steak was really juicy and tender. Price point is decent. Food service is good even when they're busy.
Reasonably priced. Chicken and Fish & Chips were crispy. Sirloin steak gravy more plain and salty.
Harisa Chilli Salsa Chicken Steak: taste was good but portion was a bit disappointing though. Comes with two sides of your choice in addition to a mini croquette.
Plus point is that the prices are all nett as they don't include service charge and GST.
Will come back again to try other mains.
came here for the 1 for 1 wagyu! good to make reservations if you’re a big group. food was great, very value for money!
Value for money and wonderful staff too. Came in at 11.50 and asked about set lunch; staff kindly obliged. Even though the four course meal was under $10, felt treated like royalty.
Food arrived very quickly and was delicious and up to standards. Lots of friendly staffs, great environment and service was excellent. Would definitely recommend for a casual dinner or even a date.
Very cosy and unique menu choices. Mushroom swiss burger is pretty decent and I'd recommend. However, their harissa salsa chicken and yuzu scottish salmon didnt make the cut. Their sides choices have more variety than other western places
Very Delicious. Love the Neopolitan Spaghetti and Ice Tea. Monnie served us and was very nice. We also tried the Wagyu beef striploin, England fish and chips and Buttermilk waffles. All were extremely delicious. The interior was cozy and looked nice. Food came quickly which was great. We are definitely coming back for seconds! 10/10. Attached a photo of the Neopolitan Spag.
Ordered Wagyu Beef Striploin. 1 for 1 offer. Worth the price 👍🏽 Molten mudpie also yummy 👍🏽
The 1-for-1 Wagyu steak deal was a steal.. chose medium & got tender, juicy meat 😋.. with 6 unique sauces to suit every tastebud (choose 1 only though).. the offer for a bowl of mussels in butter cream for just $1 was too good to miss.. wasn't disappointed.. friendly staff, prompt service & reasonable prices are nett 🤑.. will return again.. 😉
Second time we visit molten not as crowded as before. We both order a chicken meal but my chicken look smaller ( not enough to fill up those big eater). No plain water serve, my cup of tea can't top up with more hot water. I need more water is because the meal is slightly salty to me.
Swimming Striploin was great and Stuffed Cheese Fish & Chips was exceptional! Cappuccino was a little too milky.
Service was excellent. Looking forward to returning to try others on the menu.
Came for te 1 for 1 wagyu steak and mushroom soup but was a little underwhelming for the steak.
Mushroom soup was good though.
Price was really good too for the food.
Ambience was good despite the limited seating capacity. Food was great, I must say. And best part, price was affordable too! I had the Grilled Chicken Burger and Creme Brulé.
Good, old school western food at affordable prices. Not sure how they do so many dishes though. Chef Mike probably at work here.
Excellent customer service given by staff Alex, his really attentive especially when we are about to have our steaks. He will check with us if our steaks wellness is right for us. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Excellent service can really see his passion.😁😁😁
The dessert is nice, and the truffle fries are amongst the better ones I've tried :)
Staff is attentive, friendly and the fried fish batter is so fried so well and crispy ! Will definitely be back to try out the other things on the menu.
Chicken not nice but a friend of mine said the pasta is not bad. $3 for hot tea from tea bag is not worth it. Nice place.
Ordered Grass Fed Sirloin, Grilled Chicken and Curly Fries.. The price is decent, the food was tasty, and the service is quick.
Food is good, price reasonable. No svc charge n GST. Plating is commendable.
Great food as always. Sadly, they are closing.
Oh gosh so good.... curly fries and root beer float! It was my first taste of Molten Diners today and I'm sure I'll be coming back for seconds!
Lobster bisque and oysters were amazing. The disappointment however comes in the steak. Despite ordering a medium rare, the steak I received was closer to a medium well. Close to no pinkness on the meat! The spaghetti that came with it could also use another minute in the boiling pot. What a shame.
Had a reservation for 13. Appetisers were good. Lobster bisque and mushroom soup was tasty. From the mains, we liked the steak and the cheese fish and chips. Very big portions for the mains. The chicken Katsu was normal. Mac and cheese was a little overcooked but still delicious. The ice chocolate tasted like HL milk. Will recommend to others.
Went there for the 1 for 1 promo.
Totally worth it!
Went to tried their twisties fish but the fish is so tough and hard. Can barely swallow it on its own. Only the sauce make it.
good service , nice ambience ... decent food and dessert !
nice place to chill for family dinner .
1) Nice and cozy environment, perfect place for couple and small group gathering.
2) Affordable and tasty food. I ordered 1 for 1 Wagyu promotion, 9/10 rating for the food.
3) Unfortunately, I don't have any photos since I forgot to backup it before changing my phone. Staff, food and beverages, environment and the pricing I can say overall rating 8.5-9/10 in terms of qualities, taste, and worth of money.
The steak is good. I wish it was seasoned a little more generously, but the accompanying white pepper sauce definitely lifted the flavour for me. For a 37 dollar dinner, this place is well worth its asking fee.
Was skeptical due to fewer diners, however , we are glad to have eaten here. We tried the 1-1 wagyu, fish and chips, pasta, waffles, they are above average. The salad that came with the mains was very fresh too. Price is better than similar outlets. The upsized drinks are worth it. Will come again if we want western option in this vicinity.
nice plc..food overall was great.certainly will return👍👍
It's a treasure to find cheap and good food!
Service was fast but no one told the rest of my large group that a drink come free with the food. I later approached the staff to ask about this then they asked me what drink I want, but kept quiet to the rest of my large group about offering them their drink.
Good food, clean restaurant and fast service though.

i didnt have high expectations when i came here coz i didnt read up on past reviews & its relatively a new restaurant (i think?)
but brooooo, id give it 11/10 man. not only was the food good, it was also affordable especially for the spread ure getting. (i cant say much for non-steak items) but we ordered the wagyu (there was a 1 for 1 promo) and it came with curly fries & mac & chz. The mac & chz is the best i’ve tasted in my life (imo). My partner changed his fries to truffle & i got even more mind blown coz i didnt expect it to be that good. my curly fries were equally as good too. i was soooo full at the end of the night that i had to unbutton my jeans to breathe HAHA plus point, the staff were so friendly!!! as for the steak itself, it was rlly good, not tough, its flavourful, but i think i’d prefer it to be a little less done? we ordered medium rare but mine came medium. overall still a darn good steak!!! oh and the mushroom swiss sauce wasnt a favourite, shouldve gone for black pepper instead huehue. will i come back? Hell yes.
Update: 2nd time here. Was seated elsewhere compared to our 1st time. Quite disappointed with our experience mainly due to the aircon blasting at our seating area which made our food really cold while we were eating. I ordered the neopolitan pasta this time and found it quite nice, however the sirloin beef that came with it wasn’t that nice. The carbonara was meh, and the lamb chops were abit on the tough side. Other than that, the truffle fries & aioli sauce and mac & chz was still great! They should really increase the aircon temperature and utilise the ceiling fans more to prevent the food from turning ice cold :(
Food was under-whelming, steak was not well seasoned. The pumpkin and salted egg fish was lacking in salted egg flavour, and missing the punch so my palette felt somewhat dulled halfway through the fish. Texture of the fish was good though, and hot when served. Ambience is ok, staff friendly.
Clean and family friendly place. Value friendly on the pocket and a good place to hang out with family and friends .
Food variety offering is creative and quality is a steal for the price . Throughly enjoyed my medium wagyu and chicken wings ! Steak was well grilled and spicy chicken wings were juicy and crispy ! Had a crunching good time !!
Manager and crew are friendly and helpful ! Will not hesitate for a return visit !
Really considerable prices for a western meal at Thomson! Tried the Wagyu burger with the choice of yakiniku mushroom sauce as the side and I absolutely loved it. Place is alittle bit small but was relatively empty when I visited (7pm on monday) but nonetheless a lovely atmosphere for a meal!
Fabulous range of menu, food is served rather fast too, my family and I truly enjoyed dining here! Will be coming back for more! I love my mala pasta with slices of juicy beef! 😍😍
Food is great. Nice ambience and great music. Well at least when I was there.
You do your safe entry and temperature taking. You get seated and given the menu. Once you know what you are getting, order and pay at the counter. Food gets served to you. Definitely try the recommended dishes on the menu. There is no parking onsite. A must try? Definitely.
Went there last weekend and ordered;
1. Chicken Schnitzel
2. NZ Grassfed Sirloin
3. Yuzu Butter Char Grilled Scottish Salmon
4. Seaweed fries
Must say that the best main was the Salmon. Sauce was great and the cook on the salmon was perfect. No complain there.
Chicken Schnitzel was just ok but was told that it comes without sauce on it so ordered a sauce (brown sauce), which was not a big deal except that it was super watery. Looks and tasted like there was no thickening agent added into the cooking process. For sides, ordered Cream Broccoli and Mashed Potatoes. Broccoli was good but can't say the same for the mashed potatoes. It was totally bland without an ounce of seasoning and the sauce on it barely helps. Quite disappointed coz I like mashed potatoes a lot.
Sirloin ordered for medium rare but surprisingly for a 200gm beef, there were 3 different temperatures. Medium for the thinness part, medium rare for the middle part and rare for the last part. There wasn't an ounce of seasoning on the beef (no pepper and salt) so we had to asked for some salt from the server. No doubt that some may rely on sauces as the saving grace but then, you still need to put a bit of seasoning on the beef. For sides, ordered ratatouille (which was delicious) and mashed potatoes (same verdict as earlier, disappointment).
Will we return? Still indecisive...
Chanced upon this place and decided to go for a try. We ordered the twisties golden lava fish fillet and katsu curry chicken schnitzel.
The sauces are unqiue and definitely bring delights to a typical fish fillet and chicken schnitzel. The chicken was particularly juicy and the twisties added some extra crisp on the fish.
Overall a really good experience with really unique sauces for the typical food.
had brunch twice in a fortnight. really good and generous portions. affordable prices. restaurant was super clean and cosy. cooked with love and great for kids.
Buttermilk pancake is slightly thicker and crispy on the surface, decorated with blue and strawberries, the maple/honey drizzled over the pancakes are accompanied by mint leaves which provides a refreshing taste. Definitely worth trying!
The food is pretty good, especially the wings. The service crew were very attentive and pleasant, something so rare nowadays.
Molten Signature drink is great!
Need to work on their mains though. It needs to be served hot! And the salted egg sauce lacks taste.
Service here is excellent! Food portion was just nice and food was not bad.
Quiet atmosphere, good for a quality catch up session 🙂
Excellent atmosphere. Peaceful. Super friendly staff who pays close attention to your needs. And excellent food for a surprisingly low price (compared to other similar restaurants).
The food was either heavy on salt or msg, as me and my family felt really thirsty after the food. But I must say that the service was good, staff was friendly and helpful.
Good food n service!
I have a bad tongue so I can't tell a good steak from a cheap one, but judging by how my wife was all smiles the other day, I believe it's a darn good steak, and a darn good steak place this is.
Their 1 for 1 wagyu promotion is the best offer! Also love their truffle fries and crab cakes. Will come back for more!
Loved that perfectly cook salmon. Too bad they are closing for good soon. Go grab yours while it’s still there!!!
Prices are reasonable but food wise is only so-so. Service is ok. The place is halal so it is ok if you are coming with muslim friends...
Wonderful reunion with old mates.. Had the Wagyu beef which one promo 1 for 1.. quite amazing
The price, portion and quality was ok for the one main that I tried.
But some of my friends complained that their portion was too small.
Good ambience and food to hang out
Friendly servers n fast services. The $9.90 set lunch only for weekdays.
Think the ordering system or the way they take orders has flaws but otherwise they serve great food.
The place is exquisite and it really can be a choice to sit in like in a cafe concept. The only downfall is the price is a little bit expensive. The concept here is relaxed, suitable for use as a cafe, but the price of food can be lowered further.
