Reviews of Mukjja Korean Chinese Restaurant
Was suggested this place for its Jajangmyeon and so I brought my folks for a try to treat them for mum’s day.
We decided for Set C ($56 prior to extra charges), which included a Small serving of Tangsuyuk (Sweet & Sour Pork), Single portion of Jajangmyeon, Single portion of Jampong noodles and it was sufficient for the three of us, with room for desserts next.
The place was loosely filled during lunch hour when we visited on Mum’s Day Eve, guessed they catered to dinner crowds?
Service was fast, but with mixed reviews. The older amongst the two female staffs were friendlier and the younger, while efficient, didn’t look too happy being disturbed from her doings.
Spread was huge for the meat, and tasty. Sauce was sweeter than we liked but came with a tinge of sourness from the preserved plum. Jajangmyeon was the tastier of the two, which we all liked better. Though Jampong noodles was nice (and pretty spicy, do note if you can’t take spicy food), it felt lacking of something.
I wouldn’t hesitate to be back for the Jajangmyeon on a day I have cravings for it! And the friendlier staff suggested a reservation for dinner visits.
Authentic Korean-Chinese food at Novena worth heading down for! Our party of 3 ordered the set consisting of Tangsuyuk + Jjajangmyeon + Jjampong ($56).
Sweet & sour pork was one of the best I’ve had. Thin batter, tender pork, and though the sauce was pre-poured, still crisp. Plus points for the black fungus and cabbage added. The portion is also huge and could easily feed 3-4 pax.
The JJM noods texture deserves a prize on its own. Coated generously with black bean sauce, each slurp paired with kimchi was CHEFs KISS. This was so nice I ordered 1 more !!!! 🥰 But we ended up taking away half, so probably the set is good enough to feed 3 pax.
Not a fan of the Jjamppong though. My low tolerance for spice could not handle the broth. As if it isn’t already spicy enough, there’s also chili padi inside. Massive kill 😭But if you’re a spice lover this is for you.
Check out and follow ig: @mentaik.o for honest food reviews!
Just had Set C lunch for 2.
Black bean sauce noodle is very nice with aroma and sweetness of onion. Wont feel jelak even eating the whole big bowl by yourself. Wonder if i can ask for extra shredded cucumber next time though 🤭
Sweet and sour pork is serve hot, crispy outside, chewy inside. Sweet and sour taste differs from zhichar style咕咾肉.
Spicy seafood soup noodle is nice too. Soup is clear with tinge of seafood taste and bit of spiciness from korea chilli powder. Personally will prefer the black bean sauce noodle more.
The waitress is helpful and friendly. Took initiative to help me cut the long noodles when she see i have difficulty scoping them to my small bowl.
Very authentic korea taste, fresh ingredient, portion aplenty which justify the price (~$66).
Don’t order the dumpling.
Looks like wanton. It’s $12 you gotta be kidding me.
Noodle, ginseng chicken, sweet sour pork from set B are great. Fed 3 adults.
Our favourite Korean-Chinese restaurant in Singapore. We visit this place very often and each time it never disappoints us. Out favourite is black bean noodle (짜장면) and samsun jjampong (삼선짬뽕). Service is good and price is reasonable for authentic Korean foods.
Being on a constant hunt for Korean Chinese food, I've noticed this place when out for a walk, many a time. And it turned out to be quite an experience.
There's mention of the prices and stuff. I think 14$ for jjangmyeon and 28$ for tangsuyuk is pretty fair. The tangsuyuk is more than enough for 2 ppl.
Food and service is pretty good. I'm definitely coming back for other stuff. Also the place is very clean and hygienic. Kudos!
Bare minimal decor, the place is hidden behind the bus stop at Novena Regency, is the only place with queue during dinner.
Known for their Jajangmyeon and Tangsuyuk (Korean version of sweet and sour pork). But unlike other places, their Tangsuyuk (from $24/small) is made of deep-fried pork stripes, lightly battered before being coated in a well-balanced sweet & sour sauce. Cut into bite-size, it is pretty addictive to munch on though it’s recommended to eat them hot as it hardens when it’s cool.
For those who prefer something spicy, Kkanpunggi aka Spicy Garlic Fried Chicken (from $32/small) can set your tongue on fire. Deliciously fried chicken, it is enrobed in a red spicy sauce filled with peppers and garlic
Delicious food and extremely authentic!! So glad i came here. The oyster jampong is my favorite
Finally managed to try it on my 3rd visit as they were closed when I tried to visit earlier.
Try sweet and sour pork as it was highly recommended in the reviews. Love that they use lean meat and the taste is well balanced and does not feel oily. Although the portion is labelled as 'Small' I think it is good enough to be shared between 3 to 4 pax.
Black bean noodles is great 👍it is chewy and taste authentic. Portion is HUGE. I think 1 bowl can feed 2 girls or 3 small kids.
Kimchi is great and they are refillable.
Their service crew was quick in noticing that we were having trouble trying to eat the noodles and offered us a pair of scissors to cut them.
Will definitely go back to try other dishes.
My 2nd time eating Korean Chinese restaurant. Would say this place is the best value for $$. Ban Chan is good especially the Kimchi. Best dish of the day is the Tangsuyuk followed by Jjajangmyeon and Jjamppong.
For Tangsuyuk, the sauce and meat is better than the 1st. Jjajangmyeon the 1st is better but the onions in the sauce is more. Jjamppong tasted average. Ordered a set C for a young family of 4 is just right.
My favourite jajangmyeon. Most of the jajangmyeon outside even in Korea tat I tried had those kind of chocking effects . But the noodles from this shop will not. And the sauce is very very tasty. Everything is just nice. Not too sweet not too salty. Just perfect!
We ordered the set: Tang su yuk + seafood Jajangmyeon.
The portion was big. The Tang Su Yuk was nice as it was served piping hot. We forgot to ask them to separate the sauce, so the already mixed the sauce with the suyuk.
The Jajangmyeon was too greasy for my liking. You can see the puddle of oil underneath them. The taste is also different from the normal Jajangmyeon (even from the seafood Jajangmyeon that I tried at other Jajangmyeon restaurants).
Another good jajangmyeon option. We tried their seafood fried jajangmyeon. It's oilier as compared to the usual jajangmyeon as there is chilli oil in it but its more fragrant than the usual jajangmyeon. Not the best but worth a try. We like their spicy garlic fried chicken. Delicious 😋 😋 😋 as its full of onion, garlic and chilli. Mukjja is definitely a korean Chinese restaurant worth a try.
Rebranded from the one that originally located at CQ Central. It might be my failing memory but had thought the taste was not up to mark after relocating to novena. While it tastes great (and sticky), the tangsuyuk had a lot of bites. But at least it reminded us to chew well before swallowing. Jjajungmyun will feed you well and at $11++ per bowl, it's probably the cheapest from a restaurant. The dumplings are a hit or miss with a price tag of $10++ for 13 bite-sized ones.
Visited the restaurant on Wednesday Night, we needed to wait for about 10-15 minutes since all the table were full at that moment. Ordered their set menu, comes with 2 bowls of Jjajangmyeon and one bowl of Tangsukyuk (sweet and sour pork), ordered one small portion of Fried chicken with soy bean sauce, portions are generous. Comes with free flow of drinks, kimchi, radish, onion and the small dot of black sauce.
Place is kinda packed during lunch and dinner time. Food is not bad but a little too pricey. Went 2 times.
Ordered the glass noodles during my first visit. Not too sure why there isn't any sliced pork in it when it is clearly stated on the menu that there will be sliced pork. Ordered the jajang rice too. The looks of the jajang rice is pathetic. Just a plate of rice with a fried egg + the sauce. If I remember correctly the glass noodles is 18 dollars and the jajang rice is 15 dollars. Also ordered the sweet and sour pork. Pork hardness is inconsistent. A good portion of it was hard af and the rest were just nice. Can't remember how much was it but it's definitely more than 20 dollars.
Ordered jajang noodles the 2nd time I went. Not too sure what's the hype about. While I feel it does taste better than the average jajang noodles you can find in Singapore, it certainly isn't very special or unique. Also ordered some spicy garlic chicken. It's better than the sweet sour pork. Costs 35 dollars and it's not even the big size. It's small size which is meant for 2 to 3 pax.
Overall I feel this place is overpriced. Food taste slightly above average. But for the price I'm paying I'll be expecting more than just slightly above average.
The lady owner was kind, thoughtful she is always smiling. The food was tasty and yummy. Great place for gathering with friends over fried chicken and beer. Will be back again for sure.
recommended only for the black bean sauce noodles. it's super delish! but the ginseng chicken soup can skip.. cos we saw the chef bringing out an instant ginseng chicken soup... the kind you can get from supermarkets or online yourself.
Have tried Set D - Sweet & Sour Pork + Stir fried Seafood Black Bean Sauce Noodles (Jajangmyeon), the food portion is big and should be enough for 3 persons with normal appetite. Authentic Korean food as the restaurant is opened by Korean, especially the Jajanhmyeon is a must try. The food is a bit pricey and the variety is not much, topokki is not available too.
Had the Jajangmyeon and the portion was huge. The noodles were chewy and delicious. Loved the tangy kimchi and pickles which helped to balance the meat sauce.
Really delicious and authentic Korean food!!
Jjm was worth it, cause $11 for the big bowl.
I'm Korean myself and it really reminded me of home. Don't listen to other comments that owners are rude. They are warm people who remember their regulars, they just aren't as modern/international kind of etiquette. Even price is good. Strongly recommended.
An after picture would better represent what we thought about the restaurant!
Authentic noodles, or at least I came for the noodles. Jajiangmien was really nice, sweet and fragrant, chewy noodles to complement, meat, bean and onions all mashed up in a beautiful dish. Japjae was sweet despite not being cooked with any meat. At least for me, this was a little treasure at a lesser known corner in Novena.
Jajangmyeon is very good and the serving size is quite large. The service standards at this restaurant surpass most others: the staff pays close attention to your dining experience and would attend to you automatically. Dropped a chopstick and they will automatically pass you a new pair, automatically replenish the side dishes, ask you whether you'll like raw onion to go with the food etc. Will come back again for the jajangmyeon and good service.
Came here for the tangsuyuk and was not disappointed! So delicious
noodles was great springy and full of texture. the jjajangmyun was okay better than the average restaurants outside. jjampong was also okay nothing special. the sweet and sour pork and fried rice is worth trying there. decently priced at 20$ per pax if your sharing a main and a side. However not worth the 2 hour wait. would recommend only if there is no queue.
We ordered their chapchae, jajangmyeon, and tangsuyuk. Both my husband and I said we’d go back just for the tangsuyuk! Probably one of the better chapchae dishes you can find in Singapore too.
Amazing and authentic Korean Chinese food! The jjajangmyeon was well-balanced and flavourful, especially when paired with the danmuji, and the tangsuyuk was both crispy and tasty coated in the sauce! All dishes served hot, which is a huge plus. 나는 잘 먹었습니다!
The owner was extremely pleasant and willing to serve us pipping hot food despite us coming just a short while after the last order time. Tried the jajangmyeon and spicy noodle soup along with the sweet and sour pork (Set A). Would highly recommend the jajangmyeon and the sweet and sour pork! Would come by again.
Went on a Saturday evening. Heard of the raving reviews from Daniel Food Diary since they were at Clarke Quay but only got to try it a few days ago.
Honestly, a little disappointing.
The Jjamppong had only a few pieces of squid. No other seafood.
I like how they added black fungus to the dishes and the Jjamppong broth was flavourful due to the generous amounts of vegetables.
But it looked like it was pre-cooked because the noodles arrived 3minutes after we ordered, and the noodles and vegetables were overcooked.
The Tansuyuk was lovely. The sauce was more sour than other places I've tried. The meat was cut into bite sizes. But it's a little soggy.
As for the Jjajangmyeon, not bad. Not the best, but not bad.
Overall, it's unlikely I'd go back there.
I first discovered this place during Circuit breaker, and when restaurants were allowed to open again, they were quite empty.
So I frequent this place as it's such a nice hidden gem, seriously one of the best jajangmyeon I've had. Often spoke to the guys there and brought friends to support them.
I think they recently blew up, and now I can't even get a seat at the restaurant coz it's a queue of 40 people in front of me!
My friends and I tried the jjamppong, jjajjangmyeon, tangsuyuk and the ginseng chicken soup. While the noodles were chewy and bouncy, there was little depth to the flavours in the jjamppong and ginseng chicken soup.
The latter in particular tasted like it was made with instant meal packets with lots of black pepper and lacked depth of chicken flavour. Same could be said with the seafood flavour for the jjamppong. Usually jjamppong will have a wok hei taste as well but that too was lacking.
The tangsuyuk was okay. I was hoping it would be made with rice flour batter as it usually is made in Korea. It's not very crispy so if you like crispy tangsuyuk, this is not for you.
The kimchi was great though and the customer service was very attentive.
My to-go place when I crave for authentic Korean Chinese food. Their variety is not alot but the Korean jjm n jp flavours are definitely there. We would always order set C to have the variety and have our cravings satisfied. Been here for several times and this is still my fave place to go whenever I miss Korean Chinese food🤤🤤
The jja jjiang myun was really good as well as the sweet and sour pork. However the jjam pong was quite below average. Nice clean place and great service earns it 4 stars.
big portion sizes, insanely good food.
New kid on the block and jajang myeon is good. couldn’t find much difference between the special jjampong vs normal though - maybe a must to improve. tangtsuyuk is on the softer side, perhaps those liking the homely version with lots of batter. Hope to give it another try a few months down the road. 👌🏻
Queue moved quite slowly. Around 30 to 40 mins wait for groups of 2. Jajeongmyeon was good, generous with sauce and noodles. Free iced tea and kimchi as well. Around 12ish net. Will come back again if there's no queue.
For me it is the best jjajang stores in singapore 🤩
First time going there. Had a set B and ginseng chicken soup. The set portion are huge! Value for money too! The place are simple and nice, well air conditioner.
Very tasty and authentic Korean food. Restaurant although very simple. is clean and welcoming. Can't wait go again to get my Korean food cravings fixed.
Three of us take 2 persons meal package, and it just full enough for us.
Waited 45min. Food was just so-so. But their service is excellent. Staff ensure immediate clearance of the plates so as to let the new guests to be seated sooner.
I am lucky to live above this place. Their noodles are awesome. Service perfect. Price more than reasonable.
It's a delicious Korean food, especially the sweet and sour pork
Very good jajangmyeon and tangsuyuk! Jjampong lacks the smokey red pepper taste though.
As a Korean, A nice korean 😁.
Best jjajang and chambong for now.
Excellent!!! I recommend. And price is reasonable!
Best jjajangmeyon I've tried, onion heavy sauce with chewy noodles
Good food with friendly staff. Food came promptly after ordering and I loved their black bean noodle.
slightly pricey for students but portions are very filling! and food is very good :-)
Jajangmyeon is good and very generous with ingredients.
Best jjajangmyeon in Singapore!!!
nice
Family ambience.
3.4/5
As a Jjajangmyeon fanatic, I went to Mukjja, which had many good reviews. I visited your old blog because there were a lot of good reviews.
The jjajang sauce felt a little thin. The noodles were thin noodles, like those you get at a hawker center or snack bar, rather than Korean-style black bean noodles.
It's been a long time since I visited Novina, but it wasn't worth it.
The taste was good enough to be eaten in the neighborhood.
The service and cleanliness of the restaurant were good.
Since I live a bit far away, I think it would be difficult to visit again.
It's been two weeks since the store opened.
It's clean inside and the food tastes good.
In particular, Samseon Jjamppong has a lot of seafood, and everything is fresh.
They say they pull the noodles themselves, and that may be why they have a good texture.
Taste is the best
It's complicated because the place is under construction.
The price is expensive
